Nokia E5 phone encryption prevents use of Ovi Stor...

I have a E5-00 (OS version 042.007.227.01). I use Mail for Exchange for email. Encryption is mandated by my work email server. Several applications, including Ovi Store and Maps, will not start with phone encryption enabled. Disabling encryption means I can use the mentioned applications, but as soon as I sync the mail, the encryption is back on. Is there any known solution to this problem?

Much depends on the level of security which is mandated by your company's IT department, at Nokia we also use MfE with some security encryption but I am not personally aware of this issue.
I recommend that you contact the Nokia Care line for further support on your specific issue, they will be able to collect more data from you in order that MfE specialists can investigate the cause of this for you.

I brought this phone a week ago and spend over £20 trying to access the store via my phone each time it says it cant find the page or unable to connect to the server, i have been in touch with nokia and they have made me re-set my settings and everything and said the phone was faulty and to get it replaced. I have done this and i get the same prob is this a known problem with this phone? my friend has the same phone and can access the store fine. I love every other thing about the phone and dont really want to go thru getting it replaced again if im likely to have the same problem.
Or is there anywhere else i can get apps for this model without having to use the ovi store as i can get on any other website fine

  • Posting Ovi Store Reviews = Nokia Account TERMINAT...

Here's the short version of my story, which is directly summarized in the subject above (and yes, my account is being terminated against my will).
    1.  create nokia account, use it to sign in to Ovi Store
    2.  post reviews for applications
    3.  have at least 6 of your reviews flagged with the "report issue" link
    4.  recieve notification that your account is terminated.
Q: "Why did you post so many reviews that were flagged using 'report issue'"?
A:  My reviews were non-abusive.  One such 'removed' review simply stated that 'Compass Touch' was a nice application and 'did what it said on the tin'.
Q:  "Why not alert Nokia that reviews were being removed unjustly early in the process and avoid this final terminal fate"?
A:  I tried.  review removal notifications are sent via email, from the address [email protected].  Replying to this address resulted in email delivery failure notices: the account is dead and undeliverable.
Q:  "So why not contact Nokia Customer Care directly"?
A:  I did.  After a multitude of emails I gave up: they are idiots.  I never got them to understand that my issue was with REVIEWS being removed rather than APPLICATIONS being removed.  The email chain has some of the most expressive and distressed language I have ever written.
Q:  "Wait, so the account is closed.  What does that mean"?
A:  It means that I cannot buy more apps from the Ovi Store.  In 3 months I spent $75 at the Ovi Store and now that revenue stream is cut off by Nokia themselves.  All applications I have purchased are now irreversibly detached from association with any Nokia Account and I cannot re-register for an account with my username OR my email address for 6 months.
Q:  "Big deal, 6 months, so what"?
A:  Well, it is a big deal. Now I will almost certainly not buy anything ever again directly from the Ovi Store (loss of revenues to Nokia).  If I do, I certainly won't post reviews of any apps (loss of quality control and PR for Nokia).  Also note that I am developing 3 applications for S60v5 at the moment - and I am seriously finding it difficult to see a future for these applications on the Ovi Store.
Q:  "Who cares if you don't post reviews anymore, your reviews were abusive"
A:  No, they weren't.  I can't stress that enough.  My reviews were far from abusive and most of the reviews that were flagged were short, accurate and POSITIVE reviews.  Moreover, as a user I was PENALIZED for posting MEANINGFUL REVIEWS.  We've all seen the gobs and gobs of **bleep** reviews on the Ovi Store, right?  The poor language, the obvious and crude Nokia bashing, the iPhone fanboy posts?  If legitimate users with meaningful things to say are penalized for posting proper reviews, all we will have left are those **bleep** reviews that never belonged there in the first place.
Q:  "Wait, what apps are you developing anyway"?
A:  They aren't ready for public consumption, but will be released under the GPL when I am done.  'Bibliotouch' will be a free ebook reader with automatic bookmarking and social reviews that ties into the Gutenburg Project for free Public Domain books.  'NighPhone WebApps' will be an 'appstore' of sorts, providing an interface to search, test, and install widgets to launch iPhone WebApps on your Nokia device - complete with social reviews and 2 levels of installations (local bookmarks and local widget generation/installation).  Finally 'NagNagNag' will be a Location Based Service that watches where you spend your time and allows for location based time budgeting, allowing you to setup alarms such as [nag me if i work more than 50 hours a week] or [nag me if i don't visit family at least once a season].
Q:  "Hey those are good ideas for apps, can I steal the ideas and make them myself"?
A:  Sure.  Go for it.  I'm still gonna write them myself too, and release them as open source projects, so do whatever you want to.  Just be forewarned that Ovi Store might be a horrible horrible horrible place to distribute them.

While I do feel bad for the author, after reading the initial post one big question stuck out in my mind: "Why on earth are you paying money to the Ovi Store?"
The store has been around for months, and there have been literally HUNDREDS of posts across the internet about people losing money.  In addition, the customer service is abysmal and lawsuit-worthy,
    [...snip...]
Again, while I do feel that you were booted out unfairly, bitflung you should look at this as an opportunity.  At least you got out after only being $75 in the hole.
The Ovi store is like a Casino.  The house always wins, and the customer should go in expecting to lose everything they went in with.

fair enough.  of course, if the store would ever be anything other than a money trap it would require early adopters.  that's me.  i still drive the first hybrid available in the USA (predates the prius, btw - Honda Insight).  still own an original N95-1 (though i will sell it once my N97 gets voip support). etc etc etc.
I guess what i'm saying is, though lots of people have had issues i was still game for using the ovi store.  if i had an issue with purchasing a single app and ended up loosing $1.99, i'd be aggravated.  instead, i'm blown away: my whole account has been terminated.  that's a whole different breed of broken.  as an early adopter, this is the first time i feel truly stung by the flaws of a service provider.  even my N95-1, with all of its problems, remains as functional today as it was last year.  ovi store?  not so much.  it's like having my N95-1 suddenly disappear, or better yet like the N95-1 suddenly started rejecting my SIM card saying, "all those calls to your family look like prank calls to me, so i've terminated your mobile contract with AT&T".
anyway - surly i won't be spending any money at the ovi store again for quite some time (seems i can't even create a new account now because my mobile # is attached to the terminated account still).

  • Cannot get response from Ovi Store

Apologies if there is already a thread on this, couldn't find one after a quick search.
Currently Ovi store will not deliver texts to my mobile for applications. Has worked previously. Mobile was verified when account created, verified again 5 days ago, asked my to verify again today which I've done. Receiving the texts for that fine. Nokia support only suggest clearing my cache which I doubt is the problem as that shouldn't prevent me from receiving texts anyway.
Any suggestions? Anyone else had the same problem?

    Hi lockie101,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions!
Regarding your concern, are you getting any error message everytime you download an app? Also, check your Internet connection by browsing the web to see is it's up and working.
Try opening the phone's browser and go to store.ovi.mobi and see if it will ask you to download the Store app. If it's not working, try these steps:
    1. Restart the phone. Don't forget to remove and replace the back cover and the battery before restarting. Once the phone is ready,  launch the Ovi Store app.
    2. Restore Settings only. Go to Menu, then Settings, select Restore factory settings and choose Settings only. Type the security code (default is 12345).  Once the phone truns on, check if the Ovi Store is already working.
    3. Restore All Settings. Go to Menu, then Settings, select Restore factory settings and choose All. Type the security code (default is 12345). Note that this will erase all files in the device and creating a backup is recommended. You can go to Menu, then Settings, and choose Sync and Backup. Select Create backup in Memory card. You may also use Nokia Suite. Connect the device to the PC using a compatible USB cable, open Nokia Suite, go to Tools, then Backup.
    4. Update/Reinstall the phone software. Connect the device to the PC using a compatible USB cable, launch Nokia Suite then go to SW updates, and install all available updates. If the is no update available, select Reinstall software.
You can get the Nokia Suite software from this link: http://www.nokia.com/nokiasuite
    Hope these instructions help.
    Cheers,

  • Ovi store will not work.....

After having to reset my phone twice now due to the Nokia X6's software issue, this time i am unable to use the Ovi store.
I've even done a 3rd reset just to make sure.
Firstly, for some reason, i was unable to login to my account as it said wrong password. (No idea why), so i had to reset the password via the website.
Once i had done that, i tried logging in and after entering username/password, it failed with the "The operation could not becompleted due to an error" problem.
I then pressed sign in again and it worked, but this time, it put me on the "Terms and Conditions page"? But no matter how many times i hit accept, i get the "The operation could not becompleted due to an error" error and i am quite sick of it now.
Whether i get a fix or not for this problem, i'll be going in store and returning this phone as soon as possible. It is unacceptable with the 2 resets i've had to do due to the phone crashing.
Then the loss of contacts that are stored on the phone. (The Ovi sync feature is useless without the settings that are sent via sms! So what if i'm away from the computer for a number of days?)
Then there is the fact i cannot use the Ovi store. So now i am going on holiday for a week, without the store, without the possibility of getting the application i could do with using during the holiday.
    Absolute Bull...

see how many text you have in your phone you should keep this as free as possible ,now try a reset back your data up first the code is *#7370# security code is 12345 ,then see if you can upgrade your firmware
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Can't sign in to Ovi store on mobile

    Hi
Have just discovered I can no longer sign in to my Ovi store account on my mobile. On my PC there's no problem, but when I use the Ovi store app on my 5800XM I get the first page of app listings ("Featured" apps) OK, but when I try to look at any other page, or try to log in to my account, I get a pop-up window saying "Unable to open this page. check your connection or try again later". There is no problem with my conection (tried both 3G & wi-fi), and I've tried several times during today with the same result. I have tried re-installing the app, but without success. Any ideas ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You may clear the browser's cache. To do this, go to Internet and then Web. Tap on the arrow diagonally to see the options. Then, select Settings and then Privacy. Tap on Privacy data and then Cache.
Try performing the restore factory settings. On your phone, go to Settings and then Phone. Then, Phone management and select Factory settings. You may then enter the security code. The default code is 12345 unless you changed it.
You may also try to uninstall and re-install the Nokia Store on your phone. To remove the application, go to Settings and then Application manager. Go to Installed apps. and look for the application to be removed. Then, select Options and then Uninstall. To re-install the application, visit www.store.nokia.com using the phone's browser and download it from there.
If the above steps didn't work, you need to update or re-install the phone's software using the Nokia Suite.
Visit this link for the steps on how to update the software: http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/belle-asha-symbian-software-update/

  • Ovi Store Downloads Issue

    Hi again!
    My second post!
    More issues! Great!
Yesterday I've created an account to use the Ovi Store and it allowed me to download some apps but when it was about 90% of the way into the installation and stopped with an error message about not being able to complete the install.
It happened to all 5 apps I tried to download and install. I then tried to see where it downloads it to but as my phone did not come with any instructions I've failed to find my way around the system as I come from a wimo background and know only very little of linux.
Today I've tried to download again and the site identifies that I've already downloaded the apps. Now, half-way through preparing for installation it stops and stays there doing nothing. What am I doing wrong?
Apps downloaded from maemo.org installed well with no glitches.
    My system version is 3.2010.02-8.203.1
    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I tried to buy Angry Birds Level 2 pack yesterday, I kept getting a connection error, so I swapped credit cards and one of my credit card companies called me back saying that there has been 3 small purchases yesterday morning from Nokia/Ovi pending authorisation....
So can someone from Nokia explain how I go about getting my money back asap!!!!

  • OVI Store and globalization

    Hi,
just want to ask other user's opinion about the situation accessing OVI-store from a foreign country.
At the moment the situation is like this: If you are in a foreign country, OVI-store redirects you to the local store. This means for example, if you are in China you will get a lot of Chinese apps, which is nice ..If I still could access my home country's store. But that's not the case.
Even when I access through VPN of my home country the home store and send a link to my telephone, I cannot download the apps, as the store tells me that this software is not available in the local countries store.
This means,ALL travelers or business men, who are in a foreign country for vacation, business or residence cannot use the OVI-store. But these are the people, who are most willingly to pay for apps. I guess NOKIA is missing a lot of revenue because of an old fashioned policy. However, if there are some legal issues for the access, then they should find an identification process, which confirms that the resp. Person is actually a citizen oif the country, which store he/she wants to access.
I am a real hardcore NOKIA user since 1991. But now NOKIA forces me out, as I cannot download any apps of my home-store. I have tried many Android and the Iphone 4. But I am not satisfied, most of them cannot do, what my N8 can do, either they don't have a FM-transmitter or the camera and/or the flash is bad or they don't have a HD out for TV . Also the multi-tasking of the IPhone is lame lame lame (apps are sleeping in the background, but not really running). I could go on and on with that list. All that said, I can only say, hardware wise the N8 seems to be unbeatable in the market at the moment. BUT WITHOUT APPS STORE????
    How can I use it?
Does someone know, if for example my friend in omy home country could download the apps, then create a SD-CARD backup and upload that backup to me. This would be a lot of work and bother me and my friend but for the time being it could be a work around.
Anybody out there with a better IDEA?
    TIA
    RR

    Hi,
I have the same problem, which is really annoying! I contacted nokia support some months ago for this problem - and got not even a reply!
For the last software update working out correctly I needed to wait until holiday in another country to let it run there. it was not possible for me to proceed from the chineses interface.
I only can access the chinese ovi story - and my n97 can not even show characters and I can not get a app for this here!
Do you have any experience with this?
And why should it not possible to be directed to the store for the country, which is selected in the user profle?
Really good to start this topic here. Thank you! I already started thinking, that it is a user caused problem.
    Hope something will change soon.

  • Crippled connection on Ovi Store

Ovi Store forces me to connect via my 3G internet connection, which has a very weak signal at home. So I can't use the Ovi Store, which is really annoying because I have a 1 megabit ADSL wifi sitting around on idle. So basically I can use my X6 for surfing the web at home, and that's about it really. I'm seriously considering getting an HTC tomorrow because at least I'll be able to purchase and download apps.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Also, what's up with the other crippled music apps that are available on Ovi Store? All I really wanted to purchase was a music player app to play my mp3s and listen to online streaming radio, and the best that I could find was a really pathetic free mp3 player that is even worse than the standard Nokia music player. Yet the X6 can happily play youtube streams at high datarates?
Another reason for me to ditch the X6.

I've been using the Ovi Store app on my 6350.  Recently, it told me that I had to upgrade to 2.6.0.  I did.  Now, it will not start.  I tried deleting and re-installing.  Tried telling it not to keep my old data.  Nothing works.
Get's as far as "loading" and then closes.

For a few seconds it looks like its starting but then it just disappear.
