Non printing buttons in interactive pdfs

In InDesign CS4 I was able to set buttons and their backgrounds as non-printing. In CS5 with the new interactive option this does not seem to be available.
I would like to be able to post interactive presentations that can be viewed on screen but when printed out do not show any navigation.
Any help please.

In buttons window select >pdf options and deselect button is printable.

  • Adding a print button, a "download" PDF button and a navigation bar in a SWF created by InDesign

I can't find a way to add "PDF features" on a SWF file exported from InDesign CS5.5 such as:
    - a print button
    - a download PDF button
    - a navigation bar (outside of the pages)
edocker provides these features but it is pretty expensive and does not allow a lot of customization.
Would anyone have an idea of how to do it ?
    Thank you.

eDocker actually allows you to use all the interactive features you can create in InDesign. It kind of "wraps" your exported SWF into a user interface with all those 3 elements asked + more (zoom for instance)

  • How Can I Create a Print Button on a PDF Using Acrobat Pro That Will Also Work on iOS?

I created a Print Button on a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat Pro on my Mac.  The Print button works perfectly on different browsers on my Mac and on Windows (running under Parallels Desktop) as well.
When I open the document on my iPad the Print button doesn't even appear.  I am guessing that this is a Flash issue but it may be more related to the fact the the action for the button is to access the Print menu item, which doesn't exist under iOS.
Is there any way to create a Print button using Acrobat Pro that will work on a Mac and Windows but also on iOS?

In order to initiate printing by clicking a button, the button has to have either an "execute menu item" type action or use the "print" JavaScript method. As you guessed, the former won't work since there are no menu items to execute, and the latter can only work if the particular PDF viewer you're using supports it. I'm not aware of any that do on iOS.
The button doesn't appear because you're probably opening it in the default PDF viewer, which doesn't support forms at all. If you were to open the form in Adobe Reader, you'd see the button but it wouldn't work.

  • Help on print button for interactive report

    Hi,
I have created an interactive report and have also added a print button on the button of the report (unfortunately forgot how I did it). Say my column on the reports was Col_No, Col_First_name, Col_Last_name and a print button when I pressed a would get to choose open or save a pdf file, if I opened or saved it, I would had the same info on my pdf report as above.
Since I have changed the column order meaning I have Col_No, Col_Last_name, Col_Start_Date, Col_First_name and that is working fine but when I click on the print button I will get the pervious columns.
I noticed I have created a branches to print the report, basically after processing, when button was pressed an action with f?p=&APP_ID.:0:&SESSION.:PRINT_REPORT=6259824360775969936:&DEBUG.::: is present.
I need help to fix this and I do very much appreciate any help or suggestions

    Found the answer, thanks.

  • Adding print button to interactive report

For now I have the downloaded to PDF option checked so the user can print an interactive report via the widget.
I would like to have a print button on the report also.
Has anyone got any of the java script stuff working off of a button?

    Hi willjamu ,
All you should have to do is call the 'PDF' request to download the same report the drop down will create.

  • Issues with buttons in interactive pdf (CS4)

Hi there, I'm working on an interactive pdf that is going to be used cross platform. I'm working with ID CS4 (6.0.6) and Acrobat CS4 (9.4.4). I have some issues with the buttons I've created that I need to solve. The buttons are contours made in AI and pasted in ID. When done I exported my pdf from ID and checked with Acrobat and added a few links using Acrobat as one can't use the command 'go to specific page' in ID itself (yes, this has to be a non-Flash pdf).
When testing in Acrobat I noticed 2 things I need to solve.
First: sometimes a button doesn't work properly the first time but later on it does or the other way around.
Second: when viewing on a pc using Acrobat Reader 9.4 some of the buttons show little dots in a square showing the active field when hovering, although I've set border colour and fill colour to none on all buttons.
How can I fix these issues? I couldn't find anything in the properties dialog box. And one final question: from which versions of Adobe Reader (Mac and pc) are interactive pdf's supported?
    TIA

Thanks George. You're correct, most of the actions were set straight in ID. The only reason I go into Acrobat is to hookup the buttons that need to go to a specific page rather than to the next page. Since my version of Acrobat is not English I had to google English manuals to get the exact English phrases. Alas, I can't hand you a copy of the document either since it holds some sensitive information that I'm not allowed to share.
Instead of posting all the settings I made, I looked more carfeful to the buttons that have multiple actions. In Acrobat you have a bit more control over the hierarchy of the actions so I guess this is where we can straighten out the hickups, right? I have a few buttons that have actions for go to a next/previous page and toggle the show/hide of a few items on the pages. So I my case most of the buttons were set to first do the show/hide and then go to the next page rather than first go to the previous/next page and then do the show/hide actions. Could this be the cause of the staggering of some of the buttons?
And for last, right now the ID document has 4 layers. I could reduce that to 2. Would that be of any (additional) help? Thanks!

  • Creating a Randomizer/Shuffle Button for interactive PDF in InDesign CS6 (PC)

I'm creating a set of flashcards in InDesign CS6 (on a PC) so there are two sides (question then answer). I'd like them to "flip over" using an interactive PDF. That's not the problem - the tough part is linking the two sides (ie pages) together and creating a "randomizer" button so the user can shuffle the deck of flashcards in a new order while keeping the question and answer pages of each card together. Is that possible with an interactive PDF? I'd appreciate any info! The company is printing the flashcards and then offering them in a digital format to it would be great to be able to use one document for both purposes.

Sorry, this is not possible in an interactive PDF file.
You could probably do with SWF. You could probably include it a tablet app using HTML5 and JavaScript.
    But not in PDF.

  • HI, im looking for some help to print from an interactive PDF.

I have created a page turn pdf by importing a swf file and exporting that as an interactive PDF, which works well on screen. I now need to make the file printable - and when i try this only the page on screen shows in print preview - i can't print every page (it sees it a single page pdf) are there options around this? I thought maybe adding a button with an 'open file' action and linking that to a  standard pdf file - but its not working when i export. Any suggestions on how i can achieve what i need?
essentially a a PDF with page turning and live html links, that the user can print to create a booklet.
    thanks

A lot of people are experiencing it, which suggests that Apple is having issues. If that is the case all people can do is wait it out.

  • How to print a scrollable, interactive PDF file

I've had an interactive PDF application form built. Works great for the applicants, as boxes allow scrolling so that applicants can add detailed info where relevant. However, now that the completed applications are flowing in, I can't figure how to print them (as part of the application review process) so that they display/print all the content in the scrollable boxes. Am I missing something? Any assistance would be appreciated.

This is really a user question for whatever program you are using to print
the PDF forms - it's not really an issue of the PDF language.
Assuming you are using Adobe Acrobat, please post in our Acrobat forums.

  • How to have buttons in Interactive PDF slideshow?

Can you have an interactive PDF in InDesign with slideshow buttons that show previous and next?

Sorry, but slideshows are not a feature of interactive PDF. They can be used in Flash presentations or Digital Publishing Suite projects (DPS) but not interactive PDF.

  • Designing for print, tablets and interactive pdfs at the same time

    Hi everyone,
I have a large document of proposal master pages that I would like to update with CS6. My usual work flow, when I need to make a new proposal, is to open a new document and just move over the master pages I need. This depends on which products they want, etc. Then I override the master pages in the new document and make whatever customizations I need for that particular customer.
Now with CS6, I'm thinking that I will just have the pages be pages (with fewer masters). I will make an alternate layout directed at each market segment we have, and also these pages for tablets and interactive PDFs. (Sometimes we are asked to provide a digital copy of proposals). Then, when I have a new proposal to do, I will do a Save As and make a copy of the main doc. Then I will just delete all the pages and the alternate layouts I don't need.
    A few questions:
    1. How do I set up my "intent." Most of these master pages are two pages, so I think the digital publishing intent messes that up.
    2. Do you think this new set up would make the file huge? I have had size issues in the past and the file is already very sluggish.
    3. Is this the best way to go about this work flow?
Thank you guys so much. This forum has been so helpful to me!

  • How do I add a "Print this page" button (not just a "Print" button) to a PDF?

I am creating a multipage PDF in Acrobat Pro 8 for a client and it includes a linked table of contents with several sections and also several forms sprinkled throughout. I need to be able to add buttons that allow the user to print specific page numbers. Is it possible to add a "print this page" button to a page ... or even a "print this form" in case the form within the larger document is multiple pages? I would appreciate any help, thanks!

I was just coming back to here to say I've figured it out and am using an invisible button (over text that was created to look like a link) on each page... tested and working (when combined with the code). Thank you for your replies!

  • How do I make full screen button for interactive PDF

I know in Acrobat I can set the PDF to open in full screen mode. I want the PDF to open in normal view. There will be a full screen button. Click once and the PDF expands to full screen. Click again and the PDF reverts to normal size.
I wasn't sure where to post this but figured this is the place to start. Any advice on how to do this appreciated.
Here's a movie of a PDF that has the feature I'm seeking:
    Full Screen Normal Screen button
Was testing the link and I see you need QT Pro to download. Here's a zip archive of the same movie for download.
    Movie Download

The client (a woman's club) indicated that about half the women found the full screen annoying and the other half found normal view annoying. So I made it an option. Also, most PDFs I receive such as ID magazine have the option to view normal or full.
One thing I haven't figured out is how to get the page you're on to be highlighted. So if you go to page 5 in PDF, I would want the button for 5 to be highlighted in red. I ended up using page numbers but would like to be a bit more streamlined.
I received a PDF the other day and at the top when the page numbers and left/right arrows are, the page numbers read
    FC, IFC, 1, 2, etc.,
IBC, BC. I thought that was pretty cool. I imagine it has something to do with pagination in ID. Have to see if I can figure that out.

  • Issues nesting/displaying buttons on interactive pdf

The document I'm trying to create is a map of the world. Throughout the map I've placed buttons. When one of these buttons is clicked, in the left hand corner there's a box that will contain information about the location where the trigger button is placed. Each trigger shows/hides 3 buttons that make up the box+data about the location. The way I set up the actions for the trigger buttons is that they would show the 3 buttons inside its specific group and at the same time, hide every other button on the document so they could be clicked in any order.
I originally had 8 layers, one for each continent + the world map. Each layer contained groups of 3 buttons and then the trigger button for each locale (5-10 groups per continent). Currently the buttons for Australia, Asia, and half of Africa only hide the data from the trigger before it, but it won't show its own group of buttons. Is there a max number of buttons I can have on a document? Or is there a certain way I have to nest the buttons?

Thanks George. You're correct, most of the actions were set straight in ID. The only reason I go into Acrobat is to hookup the buttons that need to go to a specific page rather than to the next page. • Button hierarchy on layers in interactive PDFs

    Hi,
we recognized a flaw in the display of interactive buttons within interactive PDFs:
We created a document with several buttons, that are mentioned to display other hidden buttons, when clicked. The problem is that even when the layer of the button, that are invisible when loading the page and are visible when clicking on the other button, is above the layer of the button to click on, the other button is displayed in front of the button that should appear in front of it. Most buttons appear on top of all layers when clicked once. Is there a way to avoid this?
Thanks a lot for any suggestions.
    Regards,
    Philipp

The way the PDF specification was written, interactive elements always appear above all other content. It has nothing to do with what you're doing in InDesign. You'll just have to work around that fact in your design.
