Non priviledged commands fail after patch cluster install

For several years, to allow users to access system functions for higher clock resolutions in their
applications, we have made the following mods to two files (per Sun recommendations):
In the /etc/system file, add lines:
* 10 ms clock resolution*
set higher_tick = 1*
In /etc/user_attr, add:
dssuser::::type=normal;defaultpriv=proc_clock_highres,file_link_any,proc_info,proc_session,proc_fork,proc_exec
Everything was fine until I installed the latest patch cluster (from 2-14-2011) on our Netra 210. No issues installing the cluster. Upon reboot, the dssuser cannot do some simple things, like use ftp or ping. Messages like this:
ping: unknown host
ftp: socket: Permission denied.
The root user has no problems using any of these commands. As soon as I comment out the dssuser line from the /etc/user_attr file, everything works as expected. But we need the highres clock settings for our applications. I am unfamiliar with the workings and intent of the entries in user_attr so any help would be most appreciated.
Mark

The problem is that after patch implementation, the special privileges for any user defined in the /etc/user_attr file were modified to append the string "!net_privaddr" specifically denying use of common commands ping and ftp for example. The output of ppriv:
$ ppriv $$
14870: -sh
flags = <none>
E: basic,proc_clock_highres,!net_privaddr
I: basic,proc_clock_highres,!net_privaddr
P: basic,proc_clock_highres,!net_privaddr
L: all
I had to add the keyword net_privaddr in the user_attr file like:
dssuser::::type=normal;defaultpriv=proc_clock_highres,file_link_any,proc_info,proc_session,proc_fork,proc_exec,net_privaddr
to get past this problem. A bug or what?

  • SPARC10 not booting after 2.5.1 Recommended Patch Cluster Install

    Hi everyone,
Just finished installing the "latest" patch cluster on my ancient SPARC10, and now it doesn't boot. Here's what I see:

    ok
At first I thought I had a RAM problem. I've swapped RAM, but that didn't make it boot. I then thought I had a system board problem. I've swapped that as well, and still no dice. I wish I'd have kept the list of patches that successfully installed like my gut told me to, but I didn't. Searching Google and the Sun websites didn't turn up any fixes to the problem, so I'm hoping I can find help here.
Did the patches clobber something the machine needs to boot? I believe the OS disks are mirrored, and I've tried booting off each submirror, but the result is the same.
If I can avoid booting off of CD-ROM, that would be ideal since I don't have an external CD-ROM available to boot from.
    Thanks for any help!

    Ouch !
Haven't seen that one in years !
It's your choice of that ancient Operating Environment, combined with a cpu faster than 419MHz.
I hope you still have the extra OECD disk that was packed with that system when it was first shipped from Sun.
Otherwise you may just be out of luck with using Solaris 2.5.1
    Here's a link at a non-Sun 3rd party web site to SRDB document *20576*

Perhaps MAAL and haroldb can contribute their thoughts on this.

I'm guessing that something got horked up during patching, however, I'm not really sure which one(s) might have done so. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm more familiar with the similarly-named Sun Management Center, but I think this may be a Java compatibility issue: possibly the patched version requires a later version of java. It would help to know which version's in your environment (java -version).

  • [SOLVED] systemd services load slow/fail after forcing package install

This is more of a PSA for those coming across this issue in the future. I think people should do more of these.
I recently had problems installing packages where pacman told me several files already existed in the filesystem. This happened when I tried to install an individual official package, not a full system upgrade, so I couldn't find any relevant posts.
I tried to --force install the package, thereby rewriting all such files. But I noticed the next time I rebooted and logged into my system, my Cinnamon session would load extremely slowly (~2 mins) and I had several failed services.
    Symptoms of the problem included:
    - non-root partitions not mounted on boot
    - users and groups added after initial system install were gone (including sudo)
    - difficulty connecting to networks
    - trying to start/restart services resulted in a Polkit-related error and a timeout
So after a while I found this post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151915
It suggested that the polkit-related user and group were missing and I should check my /var/log/pacman.log around the time of my force installation, which I did. This revealed pacman overwrote several files in /etc including fstab, hosts, passwd, shadow and group.
Luckily pacman backed up all those files under the suffix *.pacorig so I by renaming the backups and rebooting I was thankfully able to return my system to normal.

I have another example of rc.local which is mainly about configuring power saving etc etc on a netbook
    hdparm -B254 /dev/sda
    grep -q '0' /sys/class/power_supply/ADP1/online && P="powersave" || P="ondemand"
    cpupower -c all frequency-set -g "$P"
    echo 1500 > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_writeback_centisecs
    /usr/sbin/iw dev wlan0 set power_save on
    echo '0' > '/proc/sys/kernel/nmi_watchdog'

    echo 'auto' > '/sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:00:1c.1/power/control'
    /usr/sbin/ethtool -s eth0 wol d
what is the systemd way of doing this sort of thing?
Also where should local units be put so that they can be enabled/disabled etc. If I put them in /usr/lib/systemd/system won't they interfere with pacman?

  • Php command line fails after GD2 library install

I installed GD2 following the instructions on osx.topicdesk.com.
The installation was successful and the phpinfo() shows gdlib is
installed. Using php through Apache works fine.
However, when I try to use php from command line, it throws an
exception. Even on php -v command as shown below
    admin$ php -v
    dyld: NSLinkModule() error

    Expected in: dynamic lookup
    Trace/BPT trap
Not sure how to resolve this problem. Looks like some library was not installed causing
the issue. Any help in resolving this is much appreciated. Thank you.

While I'm here, I'm also trying to build the mcrypt library and extension, but the same config as the jpeg lib results in:
gcc-4.0: -E, -S, -save-temps and -M options are not allowed with multiple -arch flags
    make[3]: * [3-way.lo] Error 1
    make[2]: * [all-recursive] Error 1
    make[1]: * [all-recursive] Error 1
    make: * [all] Error 2
Any comments on pear/pecl compatibility? I ran go-pear and had a go at installing apc - all appeared to build and install ok, but it just dies on apache startup:
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/apc.so' - (null) in Unknown on line 0
I guess pecl needs to be told about the compiler flags to match Apple's build too.

  • Copy command fails after installing Raid system and new user accounts

Any help is appreciated. We installed a Raid to an existing Xserve at our school. We have created new accounts on the server. All other commands such as observe, control, sending messages and so works OK.
When I try to copy files, pictures, and so on... it immediately fails. It gives me no explanation or anything.
    Any help?

    Hi Tilly,
We had this same exact problem at our school. Copying to network users always failed, everything else worked fine.
We changed the owner of the Sharepoint where the student accounts reside from our Administrator user to 'Root'
We changed this through Workgroup Manager -> Sharing, selected the Sharepoint in the left column, clicked on the Access tab and changed the owner to 'root' and click save.

  • AIA Deployment Failed After Patching

    Hi Oracle Community,
We have a AIA purchase order interface. The interface itself has about 8 composites. We have been successfully using the following process to deploy the interface for the past 12 months:
    ant -f $AIA_HOME/Infrastructure/Install/AID/AIAInstallDriver.xml -DDeploymentPlan=$AIA_HOME/deploy/purchaseorder/PurchaseOrderInterfaceDP.xml -DPropertiesFile=$AIA_HOME/aia_instances/<instance_name>/config/AIAInstallProperties.xml
However, we have recently applied patch 'AIA 11.1.1.6 Rollup Patch 5 – Patch 17423167' to our Weblogic 11.1.1.6 environment. Since then we get the error below when attempting to deploy this AIA interface.
    BUILD FAILED
/oracle/product/Middleware/AIA/Infrastructure/Install/AID/AIAExecuteDriver.xml:118: The following error occurred while executing this line:
/oracle/product/Middleware/AIA/Infrastructure/Install/AID/AIAExecuteDriver.xml:65: The following error occurred while executing this line:
    /oracle/product/Middleware/AIA/aia_instances/AIA_TEST/tmp/AIDExecuteDP_temp_1308451709.xml:4: Unknown attribute [partition]
Note that we are unable to deploy any of our AIA interfaces using this method since patching.
Has anyone come across this problem?
    Hoang

After further investigations, we removed the partition reference from the deployment script thereby deploying to the default partition and deployment was successful.
I passed this knowledge onto sysadmins and a partition configuration step was missed. After configuration, deployment worked successfully as per prepatching.

    Hi,
Can you give some more info?
    - Did you install a fresh run-time and dev add in or was it an "upgrade" installation?
    - Are you running it in "debug" (F5) or have you deployed the project and are running it from the portal... or something else?
    - By "newly created application" did you create a completly new project or cleared an old file?
    - are you using a SAP Connector in this "hello World"?
    - If yes - What connector version have you installed on your dev machine?
Please, in the mean time, also try to do a "repair" on both msi installations (run-time machine and Dev machine).
    Regards,
    Ofer

  • SAP-R/3 resource fails in CRM cluster instalation.

    Hi.
We just install CRM 4.0 in a cluster, and everything was working perfectly, but at the moment that we increased the value for parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE, the SAP-R/3 resource did not work anymore.
At this moment we already check several notes and also we replaced some dll in the kernel, c:windowssystem32 and c:windowsSapCluster, but this resource still failed.
Does somebody know how to solve this issue?
    Thanks
    Jorge Ramírez C.

    This issue was already solved.
The problem was at the moment that we import profile, this action cut a line of the profile file.
we had to use variables into the profile file in order to have a shorter line.
It was really curious, because if we tried to start the SAP instance without cluster service it worked perfectly.
Anyway now everything is working very well, thank you so much for your time.
    Jorge Ramírez Carrasco.

  • Captivate 5 stopped publishing after patches were installed

    Hello,
I am having an issue publishing an .exe. I get a "publish failed!" message. It looks like all is going well until the 95% mark, then I get the message.
I installed 2 patches and I believe that might have caused the problem since I was able to publish with no problem prior to that. My co-worker, however, installed the same patches and is able to publish just fine. The one issue we do have in common is that our .cptx files show a blank-page icon instead of the Adobe Captivate icon. Our .exe's do show the original Adobe Captivate icon, however. Odd right?
    The two patches are:
"Unable to open EXE files published from Adobe Captivate 5"
    http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2010/08/unable-to-open-exe-files-published-from-adobe-cap tivate-5.html

The other notable difference between my machine and his is he's running Windows XP and I'm running Windows 7.

  • Erase to reinstall. Volume verify fails after. Wont install.

Working fine in Snow Leopard. Got really slow. Backed up, then got gray screen. Not booting at all. Boot from Snow Leopard cd. After do an erase of many types, 7 pass, etc. All seems successful, then do a verify and it fails with - ......... invalid B-Tree node size
The volume needs to be repaired. Repair also fails.
Interesting though the SMART verify is OK after the erase and format.
It will not install. Also in Disk Utilities the verify and repair permissions is grayed out.
What could be preventing the format (erase) from working ?

If Disk Utility can't fix the invalid B-Tree node size, you need something stronger, most likely DiskWarrior is your best bet for resolving directory issues.

  • Outlook delgation failing after SP3 RU6 installed.

After EXchange RU6 was installed on all Exchange servers.  The following issues are starting to rise.
Outlook 2010 client not showing delegated access to shared or user mailboxes correctly.
Outlook 2010 showing archive names still incorrectly but not the delegated mailbox.
Outlook 2010 client showing mailbox or archive but not allowing access to mailbox or archive itself.
Has anyone come across this and is there a fix or workaround?
    Thank you in advance
    Bill Broom Notts County Council

    Hello Belinda
    Since the last update.
    1. I removed the profile and the data files, and the permissions.
    2. I have updated the Office suite to the latest patch level 7015.
    3. added the profile and opened outlook.
    4. add the permissons back to the delegated mailfiles.
This has re added the delegated mailboxes plus the archives if the users have any, but it has now put them back to the old naming convention of "Archive - [email protected]"
So I am back where I started.  another couple of users I have tried this on the archive folder appears o be named correctly but a delegated access to a mailbox that they have no access to seems to still be showing.  I suspect that new users / new
delegates will not have this problem but some already established users may.
I think you are correct in that it appeared to be the outlook client patch level causing the problems for a few users.
I believe the fix is to at the minimum update the Office suite and remove the profiles and data files first and if things are not fixed then remove permissions to the delegated mailboxes.
Thank you for you input most appreciated.  I will leave this open for another day incase you or anyone has any other quicker work arounds / fixes for this issue.
    Regards
    Bill
