North of England Outage

Let's start from the dual premise that: a) I'm not a cretin; and b) I do have a working knowledge of IT. A summary of my latest issue (there are always problems with BT but I've no alternative except carrier pigeon): - About 18 hours ago BB speed dropped to 0.008Mbps from its usual (already poor) 1.0 to 1.2Mbps. - I live in a very rural area and BT's service is habitually terrible so I paid no attention until this morning when I phoned 151 to report a fault. - A recorded message said there had been a major BB fault in my area but which was now resolved and that rebooting the router should clear matters. It didn't. - I rang 151 again and spoke to a polite enough person but whose first language was obviously not English; after much explaining (I do speak plainly, it's my job) he put me on hold to carry out some tests. I was (seemingly accidentally) disconnected. - I immediately rang 151 again; different person, same language shortcomings (I don't speak his language but I don't need to for my job - except when dealing with BT, of course). This time I explained all the previous steps I've bored you with but he plainly didn't listen and we went through all the same pointless rigmarole, he reading out irritating standard phrases, parrot-fashion until he too conducted some tests. These tests showed the wider area problem was resolved (ie exactly what the recorded message had said) and that I should have no issues, at which point he deliberately disconnected the call (I wasn't being abusive). - I called back. Different person, worse English. I went through everything, she didn't listen, she conducted tests and said that although the wider area problem had been resolved it might be some time before I my particular problem was resolved in that engineers where currently working through all customers, one-by-one, to restore their service; I should expect resolution by 14.52, the time the engineers had first estimated the problem would take to cure. She then told me the problem could not be "escalated" (ie drawn to the attention of the engineering team) until after that time had elapsed, even though that information was in direct conflict with the advice both the recorded messages and previous 151 staff had given. - However, with no apparent alternative, I accepted the situation but asked whether she had the facility to mark on my account the particular difficulties she and I had discussed in order that I did not have to waste more time later (when doubtless the problem would not be resolved) going through everything again? Oh yes Sir, I'll do that. That was aother lie. - I looked online (evidently I can get online, it's just very slow). Supposedly the "North of England" issue has been resolved, nice green tick. No it hasn't. - So I called 08001114567 (given on the green tick page) where the recorded message says BT are aware of a major fault affecting my area which should be resolved within one hour. Yet more self-contradiction by BT. - Anyway, it wasn't resolved within an hour so I called again. Same message but held to speak with a human. Same language barrier but better intent; even offered to phone me tomorrow to ensure my problem had been resolved. But still no solution, not even the germ of the possibilty of a whiff of some outcome more satisfactory than "Wait and see what happens.". It's bizarre. For any commercial organisation (pet alone a communications company) BT make it extremely difficult to speak to any of their staff and, when one finally gets through it's to somebody who is unable to communicate other than by reading standard phrases which, seemingly, they don't understand in any event. I am SO heartily sick of BT but what will be done about it? Experience suggests nothing.

This is a customer to customer self help forum the only BT Presence here are the Forum Moderators Posts made here do not go to BT  there are no other posts her showing the same problem as yours so it is very possible  you may still have a localised problem that is stil being worked on

    Taking the honour of being the first Discussions member to have been selected as Contributor of the Month is Psychomania. Hailing from Lancashire in north-west England where he works as a graphic designer and lives in the Colne area with his wife, their cats Robbie and Kylie and various other cute 'n' cuddly mammals. His Nokia phones are probably some of the most heavily-used in the world, helping to provide answers in almost twenty five thousand forum posts in under five years, but for him personally the most important features which he could not live without are good, old-fashioned text messaging, calling and more recently Twitter; though he also admits a habit for mobile photography and a growing liking for Spotify.
    A Nokia user for many years with an entire menagerie of Nokia phones in his back-catalogue, Psychomania is currently juggling the two stars of the show - the N9 64Gb and Lumia 800, though when asked which model has been his all-time favourite, he says: "The N82. It was a powerhouse of a phone with a truly great camera! It's also probably the phone I kept using the longest." - and he goes on to say that the one thing he'd really like to see in the future is a device like his current N9 and 800 with a real world-beating camera including Xenon flash and, if possible, optical zoom - R&D boys take note, the gauntlet has been thrown down!
    As well as his obvious passion for mobile phones, Psychomania has been a big fan of video gaming since his first ever computer, which was a Commodore 16. He says that one of his key characteristics is that of an avid problem-solver who gets a real buzz from getting to the core of an issue and setting everything right, which is probably why he spends so much time helping Nokia customers on this forum! He quotes his technique as being to "step back, look things over, then dive in feet-first and see what works".
    His love of technology also connects to his dream holiday, which would take him to a real techie-heaven like Japan, though there was also a comment about a tent outside the Nokia factory here in Salo - Hmmm, not sure that security would take too kindly to that! Invite him to the cinema and he loves nothing more then a healthy does of Sci-fi and horror, or anything with Samuel L. Jackson; however he's just as much at home spending an evening socialising with friends at the local pub or at home relaxing with his personal zoo. If Psychomania ruled the world for a day, he says that he'd see to it that we all get free beer and pizza!
    We decided to update the concept of the BBC's "Desert Island Discs", which anyone who has ever listened to British radio at any time time in the last seventy years will recognise. We asked Psychomania to imagine that he was alone on a tropical island with just his Nokia phone and a solar-powered charger to help pass the time, and that he could have five MP3 tracks, two movies and two apps - what would they be?
    Music
    "This is a tricky one, but my favourite artists are as follows, and if I have to choose my favourite tracks quickly then I'd probably go with:
    Queen - One Vision
    Bon Jovi - It's My Life
    Aerosmith - I don't want to miss a thing
    Kylie Minogue - Can't get you out of my head
    Green Day - Wake me up when September ends"
    - Psychomania
    Movies
    "My all time favourite movies are the sci-fi classics Aliens & Blade Runner, I blame them for my love of sci-fi!" - Psychomania
    Apps
    "Reckon I'd choose from the Microsoft Marketplace/Zune: The apps would have to be games, nothing passes the time like a good game of Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies, both are time vacuums." - Psychomania

  • Overclocking and the nForce2: The Basics

    Ok, I've been meaning to write this for awhile, and I know I'm going to get some flack over it, which is good, because others' opinions give me more options to choose from. Additionally, nothing is "set in stone."
    First of all, overclocking (at this point in technology) for performance gains is RELATIVELY useless. This is truly the first generation of hardware that has truly outpaced the abilities of software authors to write code, and by the time they catch up, at least one new generation of hardware will be produced. There ARE a few exceptions to this, most notably, in the fields of video and audio processing, but even then OC'ing has only limited advantages.
    The problem is polyfold.
    First of all, most systems are "bottlenecked" at the hard drive. Using physics as the basis, your system turns physical energy into electronic, and while electricty runs close to the speed of light, hard drives definitely don't even run at the speed of sound. In today's generation of hardware, an OC'ed system would only be able to pull info from the HD at the same rate as its stock comtemporary. Caching only alleviates this problem, but doesn't even come close to solving it, especially because, in an environment of 256M - 1GB of memory most programs depend on caching anyway, through interleaving. (Interleaving is the method of creating HD extensions for RAM, allowing users to run programs bigger than their physical RAM capacities, in either single tasking (e.g. one window) or multitasking environments [e.g. more than one window.])
    Secondly, and most importantly, small changes in OC'ing are rarely, if ever, noticeable under "normal" (application) usage. A 6 to 8 Mhz change in a 333 to 400 Mhz FSB system results in a performance increase of approximately only 2 - 3%, and, (according to modern psycholgy; I hold a 2001 Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from the University of California, cum laude) humans don't really perceive changes in time unless above approximately 15% or better. Even then, the change is barely perceptible, and takes around a 25% - 33% increase to be appreciable. People CAN OC chips (e.g. Thunderbird or Barton) and achieve these throughputs in an otherwise relatively sluggish system, eliminating true processing time bottlenecks...but these don't exist in an environment consisting of a fast processor, fast memory, and fast board (the AVERAGE setup of an nForce2, with the exceptions of OC'ed T-Bird and Bartons...more on this later.) We're more likely to NOTICE improvements from better and better drivers, since they affect stability and control or influence data that comes from / goes to the hard drive and how it is processed.
    So for those of you performance-minded users, relax and enjoy the stability of stock settings (after the T-Birders and Bartoners OC their CPU first...we can wait, but before they do, perhaps they should read the rest of this post.)
    For CPU and memory OC'ers (and non OC'ers as well), it's always a good thing for the brain and memory to operate at their relative peaks, and in synchronation, even if the rest of the body is subject to "real time" constraints. Therefore, a 1:1 FSB to memory ratio is the optimal sync. With computers, if this is mismatched, you don't get the benefit of EACH AND EVERY clock cycle. Newbies, don't worry if you don't understand it, just believe it. Seasoned pros already know this. (The only real exception is when is a multiple of the other, theoretical e.g. in a 100 MHZ (system maximum) FSB and a 200 MHZ memory; there is always a memory clock cycle in the right time and place for communication with the CPU.)
    Which brings me to the discussion of current and voltage. If you OC, you need to up the voltages. Period. Now while I know that many OC'ers run stably with stock voltages, there's still reason to up the CPU and memory core voltages. The reason is current. Current (amperage), not voltage, creates heat. Most semiconductor devices are designed to draw a certain amount of POWER (Current x Voltage.) If your settings expect more from them, as OC'ing does, they will draw more POWER. In a voltage-limited environment (like your PC), your devices will attempt to create more total POWER by drawing more current. This leads to unnecessary and damaging heat. By upping your voltage (within reasonable operating range of your devices), you reduce the amount of current the system needs to run more cooly and efficiently. As long as you stay within safe tolerance, this is a good idea for the stability-minded non-OC'er as well. It's not unusual to see small temp drops after upping voltage, if nothing else has been changed.) For those of you running a 300 to 350W power supply, this could mean the difference between failure and success, because...
    Current also raises an issue which I've written about here before: the power supply. In an nForce system, I recommend nothing less than a power supply rated @ 30 amps or more on the 3.3V output. The video and memory simply cannot be denied, and if you're running an nForce2 with a GB of memory @ 2700 or better, you're asking for trouble with 28 Amps or less. Besides, it's not good to run a system that's always close to the peak maximums of the PS: bad for the supply, and thus, the stability and reliablity of the entire system. Video cards are prone to "surges." More speedy sudden color and action requires more current. Power supplies must be instantly able to keep up with this peak demand. Like a runner near the finish line, a PS cannot deliver that burst if it's already running at or close to peak maximum. My suggestion is an ANTEC True480 or better (or any similarly-rated, good quality supply) for nForce2. [A popular alternative as of late are the 1/2 size 300W redundant supplies, capable of delivering 600 watts total. You gain another advantage as well: if one of the supplies ever dies, you can stay up and limp your system to shutdown. (This is my next move, personally, and before anything else. I want rock-solid power because I process video, a time and power consuming process.)]
    Lastly, synthetic benchmarks (like 3DMark) don't tell the whole story. They cannot tell you your own satisfaction level with your results. While an excellent performance-under-load diagnostic, once run, 3DMark creates its own niche in your mind, not on your PC. Remember, a "tweaked" .25% to 10% increase is unnoticeable, but it's good to know if something was really wrong (e.g. you're only getting 1/2 the score that others are using with your same setup. It's comforting to know that your system is running the way it should, otherwise, any other minor gain would not show up in "real world" usage.)
    Don't get me wrong. OC'ing in and of itself is a cool hobby, and a good way to learn more about computers (and somtimes costly as well.) But just as it's not safe to perform on the high-wire without a net, it's not safe to attempt too much power usage without the right power. It's also near-worthless to create or exacerbate a stability problem in order to otherwise unnoticeably increase in your PC's performance.
    Be happy; be stable. Nothing is more frustrating (except children) than the old BSOD.

    Hi Clarkkent57,
    I was quite impressed by your post - a very interesting read.
    I recently Over-clocked my XP1800 Thoroughbred B (from 1537 to around 1900,) and I was gob smacked (North-Eastern England colloquial term) when I noticed no difference at all!!! (I thought I did a couple of times during a couple of laps of "Need for speed 2" - but in the end I put it down to my imagination.) I was, however visited by the dreaded BSOD on a couple of occasions - something I'm not used to (not since dumping Windows ME - anyway - LOL.)
    I used it like this for around a week, then decided to set it back to defaults. I then thought, I might notice the system Slow down, again, no noticeable difference.
    I'm now running my machine at "Stock" until I can afford a better MoBo and CPU (not to mention a half-decent graphics card.)
    Somehow, knowing that over-clocking my CPU could shorten its life - doesn't appeal to me.
    Good on ya, for a fact-laden and well-reasoned post. :D

  • Very slow broadband speeds

    Hello
    My first post, and I'm hoping that someone will be able to help me with this.
    For a few days now, I've been experiencing very slow broadband speeds (100kbps or less), in contrast to the 1.5 - 2Mbps that I would usually expect to get.  I've been on hold to BT technical support for some time, and have got through twice, on both occasions being told that this is a widespread issue and to wait until the next day. However, I'm not seeing any improvement.  I'm aware of the problems in Edinburgh and the North of England,but I'm in East Anglia.
    speedtester.bt.com shows:

    Thanks for any help.
    Deej.

    Once a line is stable and working well, it's best left running 24/7
    Interventions like resets, replacing accelerators, unplugging the router etc. will cause line "flapping"
    And the dslam sees this as instability, and in turn the BRAS lowers the IP profile ....
    This is done to achieve stability, and decrease throughput purposefully, all done automatically.
    What you have to do, is cure any line noise, plug directly into the master or test socket behind the NTE
    faceplate, leave it connected and wait for the throughput to increase.
    Very often a rock bottom IP may need a kick to get it out of the doldrums.
    Eventually the noise margin will decrease, sync will increase, and IP profile go up.
    Depending on how long the line has suffered impulse noise, will determine the time for SNR to come down.
    Regardless of which type of phone you used to test quietline ... hum or crackle is a no-no.
    It may be the cause of the problems.  It could be REIN on the network portion of the connection or dslam
    crosstalk, either way it needs to be reported as line noise before you can count it out of the equation.

  • Published to folder iWeb site always using Times New Roman for every piece of text in published site and not showing the original text style used when building the site in iWeb.

    Dear All
    Hello from rainy, windy and cold North East England! I need to ask for your help as I'm new to iMac and new to iWeb and it's frustrating the life out of me!
    I'm just beginning to build a website for my business. Previously, I used Frontpage, but it's been that long since I used it - I've forgotten half of it and so, I'm using iWeb instead as it's silly to use an iMac for business but a PC laptop for the website design.
    I've got the background image I want on the homepage (beautiful image of a rain forest - even if I do say so myself!) and I'm trying to enter a text box at the lower half of the screen, in the centre of the page saying 'click to enter'. I type in the text, I edit it so as to change it to the font style of my company (Gill sans MT) and then I publish the site to a folder so that I can see what it would look like when viewed via the internet. When I do this - the font changes size to a bog standard size of 'so small you need a magnifying glass to read it', it changes colour from black to purple (which looks disgusting) and it changes font style from Gill Sans MT to Times New Roman.
    It doesn't matter if I delete the entire site and start again or delete the text box, and insert a new one. I've googled this subject until I'm blue in the face and I can't find an answer - can anyone suggest anything that will help?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Best wishes,
    Sean.

    Try the following:
    delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
    go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    Click to view full size
    launch iWeb and try again.
    NOTE: If you don't use  Web Safe Fonts any computer that does not have that font installed  will substitute another font for it and change the look and feel of the web page.
    So it's safest to use one of those web safe fonts.

  • Has anyone tried marble yet? FREE Navigation soft...

    i just loaded it and tried it briefly...looks good for anyone that is looking for a replacement nav software!  note:  i am in no way affiliated with this software however it looks to be a good fit for the betterment of nokia n900 users.
    Linux Journal has a review of the maps and navigation program Marble on the N900. Excerpt:
    Put the World in Your Pocket with Marble
    KDE's Marble breaks free of the desktop—and it knows where it's going.
    Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have the whole world at your fingertips? How about cradling it in a single hand, putting it in your pocket and taking it with you wherever you go? With KDE's Marble Virtual Globe on your mobile phone, you can do just that.
    Yes, you now can run Marble on a smartphone that supports Nokia's Qt framework. That could be useful, the next time you are arguing with a friend about which is farther north: London, England, or London, Canada. However, you could answer that kind of question using a mobile Web browser, or you even could use your phone to call someone and ask. At first glance, having a virtual globe on your phone seems like little more than a fun gimmick—something to play with and impress your friends. But if you look a little deeper, you will find that Marble can do much more than plug the gaps in your geography knowledge. It can help you find yourself and guide you home.
    Figure 1. Marble's mobile version puts the world at your fingertips.
    Navigate Freely
    Marble has long been KDE's virtual globe application, providing satellite, atlas and OpenStreetMap mapping of the world. Since its 0.10 release last August, Marble has included route-finding capabilities, so you can enter two locations and have Marble calculate a route and provide step-by-step directions. However, with version 1.0, released in 2010, Marble's navigational capabilities and optimizations for mobile devices have really come of age. Combined with a suitable smartphone, this gives you a completely free navigation system—free software and free map data.
    Figure 2. You easily can use a smart phone running Marble as an in-car satellite navigation device.
    So, how can you use Marble to turn your phone into a personal navigational device? In principle, you can run the software on any device that supports Nokia's Qt toolkit. In practice, most testing is done on Nokia N900s running Maemo, and packages are available for this platform. Marble also will run fine on MeeGo when the first MeeGo-powered phones appear. In the view of lead developer Torsten Rahn, “It would be really cool to see Marble prepackaged for more platforms, such as Symbian, Android, WinCE and others.”
    Get Marble on Your Nokia N900
    Most testing of the mobile version of Marble is done using Maemo on Nokia's N900 smartphone. Packages are available to make installation easy.
    To get the mobile version of Marble, simply point your phone's Web browser to the Marble Web site (edu.kde.org/marble), navigate to the Download section and scroll down to find the Maemo packages.

    Thanks for the tip. I was hesitating about which navigation software to install, and I just installed Marble. Looks good so far but I still have to test it on a real (short) trip.. maybe today on the way home

  • Security of Tape Backups

    Michael beat me to it; the first question that I would ask is if you should still be using tape.Tape was popular primarily because you could get a lot on a tape, much more than on a disk; one tape was often sufficient to backup several drives. That changed quite a while agoandthere are disk drives that contain a lot more data than can be put on a single tape.Add to that, disks were expensive compared to tapes,but disks have come way down in price, whilst tape remains about the same.For this reason, it makes a lot more sense to do disk-to-disk backup, possibly then disk-to-tape. However, I'd suggest that unless you have a really crappy broadband connection (quite possible in the North of England) that it might be quicker, easier and overall cheaper to use an online backup service.Usually, this can also provide a bit more security and...

    Dear all,We currently run Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 (Changing to 15 in the next month or two) to backup our 6 physical servers and each night I take our tape off site in the event of a fire. This has been done for at least the past 8 years, but suddenly our sister company has a problem with the security of it and have given us two options.They've asked us to use eitherIron Mountain Offsite Vaultingto collect the tapes. We were given a rough quote of about 4,500 / $7,000ish for their service which is more than we are willing to pay. Their second option was to use a bank vault for the storage, however in the North of England this seems to be difficult. No one seems to offer safety deposit boxes as a service anymore.We came up with a compromise of purchasing a fire safe and storing it in somebody's home. We are yet to decide who's home...

  • Re: Internet speed extremely slow (0.01 Mbps)

    Im connected to EATIV, lost connection at 0940 roughly.  Got through to customer support who didnt have a clue.  She ran some tests, said she would contact me in 5 mins, no phone.  When i called back 30 mins later she had put on notes(tried to call customer on landline and mobile, no answer) so lied basically.  Luckily this next lady had a brain and said it was a southern england outage and that they are working on it.
    However, i was on a BRAS profile of 7.15 and this loss of connection has dropped me to 6.5.
    Another issue, had an engineer round on 21/2 to check out slow speeds (HH4 is awful at times) he said my SNR is too high at 11db (down) and should be at 6DB , he was amazed i hadnt dropped connection at all.  He said he would get it reset, it still hasnt been reset.  Much to my annoyance.
    Still as is a little better, just got to get that SNR down somehow!

  • Phone/line fault escalated but to where? Need an ...

    I have had problems with a very noisy line for quite a long time.  I cannot hear the noise but callers complain that it is very bad, so much so that I often have to contact them by mobile.  It affects approx 50% of calls.
    I have had 5 engineer visits since May and the most recent two engineers  have said the problem does not lie within the house but must be exchange or cabling or something else externally.  When I describe the problem they say that everything points to external.
    Two weeks ago I had a call from an Openreach person from North of England (I am in Fife, Scotland) who said he had seen the history of my problems.  He asked lots of questions, said he was sure it was a line or exchange problem, he was going to escalate to another team, and with the right people on to in, that within two weeks it should all be resolved.
    I have just check the fault number that can be checked online and see that the fault says Closed on 12th August.  In fact, the problem seems to have been worse over the past few weeks and is certainly not fixed.
    Where can I phone/chat to/contact somebody to find out what is happening?  If I phone Faults I get India, and have to start the detail right from the beginning and I am asked to do all the tests that have already been done multiple times.  Does anyone know who the team would be where such a fault would be escalated?
    I am beginning to give up hope.

  • EVAL_BODY_AGAIN - Problems compiling

    Hi,
              I am having trouble compiling the following - I can see what is causing the
              error>
              All help is greatly appreciated.
              When I try to compile it states:
              EVAL_BODY_AGAIN : cannot resolve symble
              The code is below:
              packages com.wrox.ch10;
              import javax.servlet.jsp.*;
              import javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.*;
              public class iterateTag extends TagSupport {
              private int arrayCount = 0;
              privae String[] strings = null;
              public int doStartTag() {
              Strings = (Stringt[]) pageContext.getAttribute("strings");
              return EVAL_BODY_INCLUDE;
              public int doAfterBody() throws JspException {
              try {
              pageContext.getOut().print(" " + strings[arrayCount] + "<br>");
              } catch (Exception e) {
              throw new JspException(e.toString());
              arrayCount++;
              if (arrayCount >= strings.length) {
              return SKIP_BODY;
              return EVAL_BODY_AGAIN;
              I tried looking in the jar files to see if this value is available in the
              library but
              cant fine which jar file it is contained in.
              New to JSP and JAVA and am working my way through the books.
              All help is appreciated.

              see. javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.TagSupport.
              only EVAL_BODY_INCLUDE, EVAL_PAGE, SKIP_BODY, SKIP_PAGE are defined. no EVAL_BODY_AGAIN.

  • Apple care and India

    All the newsabout a new centre in India is very late...the last two contacts I have had have been the Indian Centre.
    The bad news is that for those of us in the UK who have had super service from the teams in Ireland and the North of England centre is that the quality of the training provided to staff in India is poor and so are the results in term of help given.
    I have written to Apple regarding this issue and after weeks I received the reply of thanks. It will go into a file that all senior staff can see (but read?).
    India may be low cost but unless they deliver quality help I for one will not renew my apple care sub.

    Since this subject has been broached...
    Let me first say that I have spent quite a bit of time in India in my life. I've traveled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Gujarat to Assam. I love the place and I love the people. That Apple has moved some of their support facilities to Bangalore bothers me not a whit. That said, I've been having a bit of a problem with Bluetooth connectivity on my G5 iMac (it's going in to Digital Society tomorrow morning), and after purchasing an APP for the iMac (from Provantage for $129), I called AppleCare to get a case number.
    I wouldn't have expected any AppleCare rep to forego the troubleshooting steps they were prepared to walk me through before obtaining a case number, but as JDee said, checking the Knowledge Base, Google and the forums was my first step (redundant as it was because I was capable of deducing all of the troubleshooting steps that were available to me before going to these sources). When it became clear that mine can only be a hardware issue, I called Apple.
    The person who answered the phone was uncomfortable from the start. I could hear his voice wavering as he searched through whatever Knowledge Base articles were available to him in order to help me, and I would swear that I heard him leafing through pages as I waited for him to tell me what to do next. For example, he asked me to go to the blue Apple icon in my menu bar (I use the graphite theme, but I knew what he meant). I asked him if he wanted me to open System Profiler (which is accessible from my Dock), and he said, "No. Choose About this Mac from the menu. Then click the button that says More Info." Hmm....
    Most of the call went like this. It took nearly an hour on the phone to get my case number. I was on hold for nearly twenty minutes at one point while he discussed my issue with a product specialist. I played along with all of this because I know that the Bangalore operation is relatively new and I was helping this guy with his on-the-job-training. Nevertheless, it was frustrating for me to have to go through.
    Fortunately, in my many years of using Macs, I've only had to call AppleCare two or three times. As bad as this was, I suppose it beat having to go through the Genius Bar at the SoHo store or dealing with Tekserve in order to have my iMac repaired.

  • Free Bundle Pack

    Hi
    I've had my MSI GT72 2QE-805UK for about 3 weeks now and I'm very happy with it.  The only disappointment, was that there was no bundle pack included, which can be seen on many YouTube videos.  The typical bundle pack would consist of MSI branded backpack, mouse mat, mouse, keyboard cover, earphones etc.  Which Jonas kindly demonstrates on this video:
    What is the situation as far as getting hold of these items, are they available for purchase seperately or should they have come with the laptop?
    Kind Regards
    buzzzz717

    Thank you for your reply.  I am in the UK, the north of England.
    Would it be possible to purchase these items directly from MSI?
    The store I bought it from says their MSI rep has been working with MSI to try and get hold of some bundle items.  Its been a nearly a month now so I'm not sure, there will be any progress here.  I would very much appreciate the opportunity to get hold of these items as mentioned in the original post.

  • Timestamp/time elapsed for digital pulses

    I am using a PCI-6132 to time digital signals. Ideally, I would like to use the NI-DAQmx C++ API to get a timestamp from the 6132 for each edge (essentially, input capture). I'm pretty sure there is a way to configure a task to do this, but I'm not quite sure how. Most of the tasks seem to measure relative times (ie, the time between two pulses, high time, etc). If someone could point me to the functions/configurations that I should look at, I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Ruddick

    Hi Ruddick,
    I found a few examples which might help you along. Both can be found by navigating to the text-based examples provided in your DAQmx installation.
    Start>>All Programs>>National Instruments>>NI DAQ>>Text-Based Code Support>>ANSI C Examples
    In the folder, navigate to Events>>Signal>>Change Detection>>Read Dig Chan-Change Detection Event.c This program shows you how to create a DAQmx task which reads change detection events. During the callback phase, you can insert the code to get a timestamp.
    The other example, starting with "ANSI C Examples", is located in Counter>>Measure GPS Timestamp>>GPS Timestamp.c
    These two examples should give you enough to work with to create a task which outputs a timestep at each rising edge when reading channels on the PCI-6132. Please let me know if you are having trouble finding these examples, I'll be happy to attach to another reply.

  • Installer - Registry Editing Issues - Bug?

    I'm having trouble trying to set up some registry keys in an installer using LabVIEW 2011.  The issue is that I create a registry structure, but when I open the installer again my registry structure is different from what it was when I saved it.
    Couple of screen shots showing what I created (before I click OK), and what I get after I open the installer (What I View).  I did this twice with a new project each time and got slightly different results.  Also attached is the project.
    When I open the project file in a text editor it looks like all the registry folders are there.  In my production project with keys everything also seems to be intact, just that I can't see it on the screen to edit it.
    This almost forces me to enter all of the registry information correctly the first time, because I may or may not be able to come back later and edit things.

    It's a heirarchy issue. I've recreated the problem on my machine and notice, after careful inspection, that LabVIEW had only re-arranged the folders so that within the same heirarchy, they appear in alphabetical order. I did this with the project you sent, as well as one of my own. The folders aren't missing, just re-arranged, correct? See my attachments, I have the same "problem" with funky folders, but you can see it's just alphabetizing the folders.
    Also, What version of LabVIEW are you running?
    Does this make sense? I can clarify if not, hope this solves your issue!

  • MSI Afterburner Extreme

    Was told i need to speak to my local MSI rep, but cant find info on them anywhere
    basically want to put my 2 x 680 lightnings under water/phase/Dice but don't see the point if i cant up the voltage
    any ideas or know who i need to speak to
    North of England, UK

    Quote from: flobelix on 07-October-12, 00:09:14
    First of all you need Afterburner 2.2.3 and not current Afterburner 2.2.4 because due to a Nvidia dictated overvoltig cut down 2.2.4 is limited to 1.175v. Have a read/download >>here<<.
    Also you need to switch your cards to the LN2 bios. As later bios versions are (because of the same reason as the Afterburner cut down) limited to the max Nvidia overvoltage you may need to to get an unlocked vbios. First try with 2.2.3 and retry. If no help report back and I can give you an unlocked vbios.
    i already have the original LN2 bios flashed across both cards
    i also use 2.2.3 due to the unlocked voltages
    I just want to be able to push the volts higher as i will be sub zero cooling them, i have used the Artmoney hack, but have found it to be slightly unstable sometimes, ok for a small push tho!
