Norton AntiVirus Add-On Causes IE9 To Hang When Accessing icloud

I just rebuilt my PC with Win7 64-bit and IE9, fully patched, I then loaded the latest and greatest Norton AV (ver 20.2.1.22). I discovered that the Norton Vulnerability Protection add-on hangs access to icloud and its applications. Made me wonder what was going on since another PC I have running Win 7 64-bit with IE9 works fine. The difference is the updated Norton. When I disable the add-on, it works fine. Since I wanted the extra protection I left it enabled. I just installed Safari, made icould the home page and pinned it to my task bar. So now I use Safari for icloud access but IE9 as the default browser for everything else. I'm hoping that an upcoming Norton update will address this problem. I've read on the Norton board that the add-on causes other sites to hang.

Yep, I've posted about this issue to numerous threads on this Community. In my case it was Norton Internet Security's "Browser Protection" that caused the problem. I also posted about it on the Norton User Forums, but that seems to have fallen on deaf ears. I did the same as you with Safari. Since the 64-bit version of IE9 doesn't incorporate the Norton add-ons, it works well also; but the 32-bit version of IE9, which is the default browser, is vulnerable to the problem.

Thank you for providing all that information about the iTunes issue you are experiencing. We would first want to rule out any software issues before we can determine if it has to do with RAM. Finder hangs when accessing external drive

My finder hangs when accessing an external drive.
It is specific to a drive the I created on my TC disk.
That drive and TC work perfectly unless I mouint it and alter anything on that disk (I can read ok but writing causes a freeze.)
The writing that I do is always ok; if I trash or move something it always ends up where I wanted it after a restart.
The process looks like:
I drag an item to the trash (or another directory) and the progress bar shows success down to 3 or 5 seconds and then it stops (curser becomes a spinning beach ball.)
I can hear the tone of a successful transfer if I wait a little while but the finder is unresponsive untill I restart.
Once restarted I can check the external disk and the file transer (to a directory or the trash) appears to have completed without corruption.
I have repaired drives and permissions all over the place with no results.
Can I just say that I tired of constant unnecessary updates that slow my computer, rearrange my settings and cause crashes and other problems that have to be researched and chased down through hours of online troubleshooting. I would love to have thoroughly tested software and hardware that just works without the hassle of having to constantly tweek my machine to get it to work consistantly.

Are you saying you have this problem only with one drive, not with others?

I have Kaspersky anti-virus for mac. The extension Kaspersky URL Advison 8.0.6 causes Firefox to hang when visiting secure websites, especially when the secure site redirects to another site.

What is the proper way to fix the Flash Plug-in issue that causes Firefox to hang when playing Flash videos

This is annoying and causing me to set my default to Chrome. Firefox hangs when playing Flash. I have tirelessly tried everything I could. Uninstalling Flash via the Adobe download. Uninstalling FF and every single one of it's folders. I've done it all, multiple times....and continue to have the exact same problem, any Flash video hangs. Please help, I have read countless articles about others having this same problem, yet nobody offers a real solution.

Radeon HD 6450 causes computer to hang when waking from sleep

Card runs fine from a cold boot, but after resuming from sleep, causes fans to run 100% and computer never resumes, just makes a lot of noise and has a blank screen. It won't respond at all to keyboard or mouse. I've tried the original drivers on MSI site and the latest from the AMD site with the same results. If I install my old video card, my computer works fine. I thought overclocking might be the cause, but even with it disabled, the card still causes my computer to hang when resuming.
Computer is an HP Pavillion a6200 (motherboard ECS Nettle2).
Any ideas?

As you upgrade the card in a prebuilt system the old card and system were most likely fine-tuned. Possibly there's still any HP software interfering. Try uninstalling the driver and any HP software and retry with AMD drivers installed after reboot.

Labview hangs when accessing dll

Im accessing an active x dll using labview 8.21. When we query the dll all parallel loops in labview hang until the dll returns. Is there a way to get around this behaivour?

I do not know if this will help, but there is an issue with the Call Function Library node in LabVIEW 8.2.1 and is posted in the LabVIEW 8.2.1 Readme help here:
If you configure a Call Library Function Node to call a LabVIEW DLL, place a checkmark in the Specify path on diagram checkbox on the Function page of the Call Library Function dialog box, and select Run in UI thread in the Thread control, LabVIEW hangs when executing the Call Library Function Node. To correct this problem, select Reentrant instead of Run in UI thread in the Thread
control. If you configure the Call Library Function Node to call a DLL
written in C with these same settings, LabVIEW works correctly.

Norton Antivirus for Mac causes problems?

On this, and other advice sites, I'm getting the message Norton for Mac causes performance problems. Is this the general consensus, and can anyone offer more info?

In addition to the other advice you've already gotten, I suggest you open the Activity Monitor application from your Utilities folder and see if there are any processes that are taking up too much processor time.
Once Activity Monitor is open, look at the CPU tab at the bottom. With no other programs open, you should see a fairly high value for "% Idle". It will vary by computer, but my iMac Core 2 Duo from two years ago shows 97 to 100% idle.
If it's significantly lower, like 85% or lower, go to the menu at the top of the Activity monitor window and choose "All Processes" from the pop-up menu there (not "All Processes, Heirarchically"). Now click a couple of times on the "% CPU" column header until the arrow to the left header points down. The processes that are taking up the most CPU time will be at the top.
Again, if Activity Monitor is the only program open, the values will be pretty low, like less than 5% usually. Be careful, though, about just quitting processes via that program. It might be possible to get your Mac pretty confused if you don't know what you're quitting.

ICloud Outlook add-in causes Outlook to hang for 30-120 seconds each time I enter the Calendar.

The iCloud add-in for Outlook seems to be causing some issues with my Outlook calendar: each time I go from the Mail tab to the Calendars tab, Outlook freezes for a minute or two and then resumes functioning.
The problem is definitely with the iCloud add-in itself: if I disable the add-in, my iCloud calendars still appear (but do not sync), and Outlook works fine. The freeze does not seem to happen the first time I go into Calendar after starting Outlook, but every subsequent time it does happen.
I am using Outlook 2010 (32-bit) on Windows 7 (64-bit). I do not know and haven't been able to figure out how to tell if I'm running 32 or 64 bit Apple software on this computer.
I would appreciate any help, and particularly any thoughts on what the iCloud add-in is actually doing at the moment you go into Calendar view that might be causing problems. Does it sync at that time (and apparently in a poorly designed way)? Or is it just some rendering or other similar issue?

The sync can be very long, nbut only when you sign in from the Control panel. Once you're in Outlook, I don't think you sync that much.
I have the same issue using my old PC. Maybe you should check your hard drive, your memory usage and CPU usage. I fixed it by a new laptop, last year. Usually, this is a sign that you're short on memory and you're using the Windows page system memory file. So, your CPU might come short, your hard drive might be too slow or you don't have enough memory.. Otherwise, your hard drive may be too slow and very fragmented, reqyuiing Windows to spin a lot and read bits of files stored everywhere. The solution would be to defragment your hard drive. or worse.. it's a slow hard drive or showing sign of fatigue.
I'll go with defragmenting the hard drive first, then, the CPU and memory bump.

Why does enabling FP 11.4 add-in cause IE9 to stop working?

I'm running Win7 Home Premium. IE9 works perfectly UNTIL I enable FP11.4, when it can't load any pages. Disabling Flash immediately results in IE9 working perfectly again. ActiveX filtering is off (all the time). Does anyone have any ideas?

Your update 33.0 is not compatable with Norton antivirus and the screen only turns black when trying to open firefox. Please help

Please see question. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but with no success. Chrome and Int. Exp both work fine, but nothing comes up but a black screen covering most of my monitor in Firefix.

Sorry but it is always the other way. Norton needs to update their Firefox extension to work with the new major version Release so it can tie in with their antivirus client.
The good news is that Norton as usual has a live-update patch for Firefox 33.0 which was available on October 13, the day be fore Firefox 33.0 was Released.

Flash works, but causes IE8 to hang when multiple tabs are open

I have a problem which is very consistent... If I open IE8 to my home page (non flash), then open another tab (and go no where, just a clean tab) and then try to close IE completely (saying yes to close all tabs prompt). IE hangs for about 30 seconds before shutting down. If I disable the add-on for flash and then repeat the steps, IE closes right away without incident. Any thoughts? Happens every time...
As a side note, this is a XenDesktop Windows 7 image fully patched and running the most current version of the Flash plug-in.

My efforts to remove malware from a network external hard drive connected to my Intel based iMac is now causing programs to hang when I try to open them.

I own an iMac, recently updated with OSX 10.75. It is the core computer on a home network shared with an iPad, Apple TV, two network printers,my wife's laptop, two iPhone, a BlackBerry and a BlackBerry Playbook. I am experiencing three if not four problems that are overwhelming.
My original problem is associated with Windows emails files or documents stored on my external network hard drive. One or more has malware and is sending malware laced files across the Internet to points unknown. As someone pointed out in a forum my iMac may be hosting,sharing and propagating Windows malware. I originally used Trend Micro software on my IMac to monitor any viral activity. Two weeks ago I noticed a number of notices from servers around the world saying my message was not undelivered. Since I had sent messages to the people I simply deleted the emails. Next I noticed the emails on my BlackBerry and my BlackBerry playbook.I configured the Trend to do a complete scan and although it did a complete scan it did not perform a full network scan. It did identify a series of .x27 document files with the same name tbut each had a sequential number. I assumed hat these were the source files that had sent out the email documents selling Viagara and othernproducts. I manually deleted thousands of the source documents and the files. This caused some disruption to my computer but it did not produce a hardware or software problem. By following this effort in conjunction with security scans I do believe the malware was activated by Iranian students who were able to activate the malware through my BlackBerry and BlackBerry Playbook. I learned this from an encounter I had when trying tondelete these files on my computer and my BlackBerry.
When using my PlayBook after deleting the files from my computer I noticed more messages being returned from servers. I realized that email accounts connected to my BlackBerry and BB Playbookn were not protected from this problem. As I searched for remedies I learned about turning on the firewall in the previous version of Lion but that did not stop the BlackBerry problem. Each time I deleted a source file on my computer more documents were released. I eventually received McAfee from my ISP. It provided security on the entire network. My first full scan of my external drive identified two malware files. One of them was associated with the Cialis ad the other was from a firm in the Middle East called ADP. it could not remove the latter file.
Moreover each time I attempted to remove the source file from my hard drive a file labeled A239A076F would show up on my Blackberry. As I removed them thousands of these files would show up. Ultimately I eventually disconnected the external hard drive and removed the battery from the phone and not use the email accounts these messages had used to enter my iMac. I am contacting ATT about BlackBerry data security and switching to a different phone for business purposes. I will probably change to an iPhone or Android phone for business purposes. I am also looking at ways to resolve the malware on that drive. There are a number of business and personal files on thatbdrive that I hope to keep. I dread having to pay McAfee to configure the software to eradicate the malware.
Moving on...last week I updated my iMac to 10.75. It simultaneously updated every Apple based program as promised. It did not update the non-Apple programs. I am not an IT professional and assumed that it had done so. On Saturday I attempted to download a file associated with my router extender using my untethered Playbook and BlackBerry desktop software. The program hung. I attempted a reboot and it reopened with the hung program. It created an alias file on the desktop. My inclination led to put the alias file in the trash can and delete it. My computer did not respond well to that action. It has been rebooted with Cmd-s-esc tens of time to see if that would activate a file check. It did not. I was able to run a disk utility check. And in spite of the hung process it eventually said the drive was okay.
Long story in a nutshell. My iMac is responding as if it is looking for a subprogram to complete its a function. Or it is attempting to finish the BlackBerry operation it began on Saturday. I hope this makes sense to someone and the know how I can restore functionality to my iMac.

There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.

Illustrator files cause finder to hang when in the web 2.0 view mode

When I click on the hard drive and want to view its content using cover flow mode, it hangs on my AI files and will spin forever. I am using CS3. Has anyone experienced this issue before?

The latest version of iTunes com addin for outlook cause outlook to hang when exiting

iTunes Version 11.0.0.163 com addin for Outlook causes Outlook 2003 used on a Windows XP machine to not close when exiting. I have verified via the Task Manager that it Outlook does not close. I have gone into Outlook and disabled the addin and Outlook closes properly. Enable it again and Outlook once again does not close. This did not start hapening until I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes. I have both an iPhone and iPad that I need to keep synced with my Outlook calendars, contacts and notes.
How do I get in touch with someone at Apple to report this. I have been all over their website, but cannot seem to find any email or phone number to report software bugs.
