Not appropriate privileges to install Login & Keychain update

I have got Leopard working well for one week and manually used the Software Update yesterday to install updates. Two software updates were listed, Backup 3 and Login & Keychain, of which Backup 3 installed perfectly (after entering my admin password) but Login & Keychain did not.
I've got the message 'not appropriate access privileges to install this item'. Anybody ideas how to solve this problem?
For your info, I have full access to my harddrive and I am able to add/ delete directories etc; furthermore, in the Account settings, my inlog name has 'Admin' privileges (i.e. I am allowed to administer the computer).

I had this problem for a while. I had brought over an account from backup (also with admin privileges) that I was using and was trying to do the software update. When I went back to the account I created when doing the installation of Leopard, the software update worked correctly.

  • A Word of Warning Before Installing Login/Keychain Update:

After I installed the above update and rebooted my computer, it wouldn't load the menubar, dock, or anything except the desktop. So I had to force reboot. After that, OSX would only open into OSX setup assistant, as if my previous account and all information never existed, even though it was still on the hard drive! So I restored my previous system from a Time Machine backup and now it's mostly back in working order. So make sure your stuff is thoroughly backed up before installing the update!

I'm not sure if this is any different in the UK but in the U.S., Apple handles ALL iPhone repairs and exchanges under warranty.
If you purchased your iPhone more than 14 days ago, you need to contact AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.
You can return an iPhone within 14 days after the purchase date for a refund, but if the packaging is opened, there is a restocking fee. If there is a warranty claim, you contact AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby to have your iPhone inspected and tested for repair or replacement under warranty.

  • Airport Extreme Card missing after Leopard and Login & Keychain Update

After these updates the network prefs showed no Airport card installed, even though it had been there seconds earlier. This was buried at the bottom of a posting for a similar problem. Just wanted to make it easier for others to find.
"I'm having the same issue with an iBook G4 1.2Mz model. Having successfully installed Leopard (5 user license version) on my Macbook, I installed it on the G4. At first this worked until software update installed Login & keychain update 1.0 and Remote desktop client 3.2.1. When the iBook reset the airport extreme card wasn't there. The icon in the menu bar states No Airport card installed."
"Some users have determined that an artifact left over from Mac OS X 10.4.x interferes with wireless connections after Mac OS X 10.5 is installed. The issue can be dealt with by finding and removing the AppleAirPort2.kext file from your Extensions folder, located here:
    Macintosh HD:System:Library:Extensions"
    That fixed it for me.

Judging by the amount of posts it must be isolated. Mine works fine. Did you repair permissions ?
" Keychain-Administration or Privilege Issues after Upgrading to Leopard:
If after installing Leopard as an upgrade or archive and install you experience any issues with not getting mail, can't run Disk Utility, can't login as administrator, can't print or anything that entering existing User name and/or passwords requires, you are not alone and Apple is working on it now.
The fastest method of determining if you have been bitten by this, open System Preferences, click on Accounts and verify that you are the Administrator as opposed to Standard, and that the checkbox asking if you want this user to be an Administrator is checked. If you are Standard, and the box is unchecked and/or greyed out, you have a situation most likely, whether you know it or not, yet.
Further verification can be done in the Accounts window by clicking the lock to make changes, entering your name and password and being denied access.
Apple says the best thing to do right now is not to try too much voodoo and wait until later today for a solution, hopefully. I was told to close the lid and walk away until Apple calls me back.
The good news as I write this on my old reliable Pismo, is that I have a bootable Carbon Copy Cloned 10.4.10 complete back up on an OWC external FW disc. Thanks Mr. Bombich! I just hope I don't have to use it.

  • The Culprit Unmasked: Login & KeyChain Update Version 1

I can identify the precise moment when my Intel iMac when berserk with Steve's blue screen of death.
I had done a clean install of Leopard on my Intel iMac 2.16GHz 2.5RAM. Everything was going great. UNTIL I checked for updates and installed the Login & Keychain update version 1. That required a reboot, and upon reboot, I, like others, could not get past the Setup routine.
So, for me, it is the Apple upgrade for the Login & Keychain update that totally screwed my computer.
The only way around it, for me, was to do a boot from the DVD by booting while pressing the C key.
I don't know why Apple is blaming 3rd Party apps for causing Leopard to fail. For me, it was Apple's own Login & KeyChain update. I had done a clean Leopard install, so I had no baggage from previous installs.

    p/p/s
I should mention how I recovered from disaster.
By the time my Leopard install was hijacked by Apple's KeyChain update, I had transferred to my Mac some unique data that I did not have backups. So, when Leopard crashed, I was in disaster mode.
The friendly fold at macworld.com forums showed me how to connect a 2nd Mac to my ailing Mac using a Firewire cable, making the sick Mac to operate in target mode. I was able to read the hard disk of the ailing Mac like an external drive, and retrieve all the date. That was a massive relief.
The night before, I had spent a sleepless night waiting in queue for Apple's help desk.

  • What Is The Point Of The Login & Keychain Update?

    I installed Leopard on Friday.
It did not and still does not recognise my Username and/or Password.
I note that a Login & Keychain Update has appeared in Software Update, its purpose being to address login & password issues "where the password is 8 or more characters".
    (1) I cannot install the Update because Leopard does not recognise my password.
    (2) My password is only 7 digits long yet I'm still unable to access my iMac properly.
What's the point of issuing an Update for people who are unable to install it?

Hopefull you will have already seen other posts explaining how to get past the login problem. This worked for me:
1 Boot up from the install disc (hold down C key when restarting).
2 Launch the installer as if you are going to install.
3 From the Utilities menu, select reset Passwords
4 In the username field type: System Administrator (root)
5 In the password field type the password you want to use
6 Quit the change passwords app
7 From utilities, select Start Up Disk. Choose you HD as the start up disc and restart
8 Once restarted, select accounts from the System Preferences menu
9 Click the lock at the bottom left
10 When asked for username and password, enter System Administrator as the username and the password you changed earlier as the password
11 Click the enable user to administer computer check box for your account. Your account should now change from Standard to Admin.
After I did that I could log in and download the software update. I was connecting via Ethernet. However, once thte update was installed my PB G4 stated that I do not have an airport card installed (which I obviously do). I still haven't found anything that works for me to fix that. I have given up for the moment.
    Hope this helps

  • 10.5.2 cannot Login - Re: Login & Keychain Update

This Update refuses to install on 10.5.2: "does not meet the requirements".
I did not install Leopard until the 10.5.1 update was released and promptly saw I could not login to one of my user accounts. The weird thing is my root account (sysadmin) has the same password! It worked.
I did not find this Update (fix) for a while and didn't take the time to install it. Now I saw the 10.5.2 Combo. I installed it first thinking the issue was resolved in it. Wrong! Now the Login & Keychain Update rejects the volume: 'does not meet the requirements". It would be really nice if the error message were more specific as to why.
    Catch-22.
Can someone provide something that works to fix this.
This Update was supplied in Oct 07. Why isn't it fixed (included) in the Feb 08 10.5.2 Combo?
I do not want to erase & install. I have a few other systems that MUST be upgraded from 10.4.11. I need to know how to avoid this situation. (No - I do not want to have the users all change their passwords.)
    Any suggestions anyone?

Update: I have tried to reset the password to 4 or 6 repeating characters (something real simple) and it has no effect.
If someone has a CLI solution, I am ok with that. I am used to running around unix kernels.

  • DEADLY Login & Keychain Update 1.0

After installing Leopard Airport was slow but worked.
I installed the new Apple software update "Login & Keychain Update" that is supposed to fix the problem:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306804
+The Login & Keychain Update 1.0 for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is recommended for all Leopard installations. It addresses issues you may encounter when:+
+Logging in with an account originally created in Mac OS X 10.1 or earlier that has a password of 8 or more characters.+
    +Connecting to some 802.11b/g wireless networks.+
    +Changing the password of a FileVault-protected account.+
Ever since the (required) restart my Airport is permanently dead: "No airport card installed". No response when i try to "Turn airport on".
    Apple help!
This Software Update seems deadly ......
anyone else seen the same thing?

Removing this file also fixed my "No Airport Card found" problem triggered by this update to Leopard.
As an alternative to becoming Root, you can also remove this file by booting the broken Mac in Target mode and then accessing it from another Mac. You'll need an admin account on the other Mac.
Early testing indicates this also fixed my problem of frequent slowdowns and apparent disconnects of Airport -- fixed by turning Airport off and then on again. So far no recurrence since I've removed this file.
How certain are we that this file can be safely removed as the permanent solution?
    ===================
EDITED TO ADD: Just checked, and normal (wired) ethernet also still works on my machine after removing this file.

  • HELP ME T23 does not boot anymore after installing a Lenovo update. Any idea?

Hi, I installed the updates and later I shut down the laptop as requested. Later that day I wanted to start it again but nothing happend other than the little round green light next to the switch button goes on. The monitor stays black. I removed the batterie and plug (the batterie is dead anyway) but that did not help. I believe my harddrive made noise lately, too. Is that the end?

I was able to eject the dvd by pressing the usb mouse left button while booting. Then put it back in after a reboot
After that selecting the alt-key, i selected the install dvd, and after a while (gray background and spinning weel) it took me again to the installation screen.
Will tell you if it is working in a while...

  • After flash down load the message reads " Not sufficient privileges to install Flash Player"

I am logged in as administrator. What do I need to do to overcome this problem?

Sorry, there is no screenshot in your post.  (You need to login to the forum, and upload the screenshot using the camera icon.)
Try the following: download the offline installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#mai n-pars_header (under the heading Progress bar hangs...) and save it to disk, then right-click on the downloaded installer and select Run as Administrator.
If that still does not solve your problem, try a clean install as described in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315

  • Dv7-6059eo, microphone and camera not working, have re-installed the system, updated drivers etc.

Hello. A couple of days ago, my microphone and camera suddenly stopped working. When I started up my camera in Skype, it said "Please open YouCam" or something like that, and when I did, it told me to update it. So I did. Then it told me that I had to uninstall the current version of YouCam. When I did and tried to install the update, it said something like "no video device detected".
After updating drivers and un-/installing things, I recovered my whole computer to fabric options. Still not working. So I suspect that it might have something to do with the hardware. Although I don't know what should have caused it, as it just happened randomly in the middle of the day.

Try the User Tip suggestions first.  Your system does need a plist, but a properly working OS X automatically generates any needed plist files when you launch the associated app (if its plist does not already exist.)

  • Not enough privileges!

Lots of stuff on the issue in general but cn't see anything direct.
Have been told not enough privileges when installing downloaded applications. The latest was a Card Raider update was one yesterday not sure what it was. Both were 'drag and drop into applications' installs. Haven't tested a package installer app yet.
Thing is the user I was in was an admin user. Yes I di check to see if he had been demoted. He had not according to System Preferences, and he was able to do some other authentications.
I got over the problem by enabling root and using that account to install. However has anyone any idea what the source of the problem is, and what is the proper solution?

Do you only have that admin user? You could use a second account to see if it occurs on both or just one of them.
