NOT specify new DataSource for every new stored procedure?
I'm in a solution where I'm having multiple reports, and I want to create my reports one at a time, create a stored procedure for it, then create a report for that stored procedure, then go on to the next report in the same way. The problem is that
in Visual Studio, the DataSource does not update to recognize the new stored procedure, so I have to keep creating a new data source each time. Is there any way around this so I don't have to create a million data sources?
Hi jiwakersm,
I will answer your questions one by one:
Report Builder vs Report Designer:
• Report Builder is available in two versions: stand-alone and ClickOnce. The stand-alone version is installed on your computer by you or an administrator. The ClickOnce version is installed automatically with SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services (SSRS)
and downloaded to your computer from Report Manager or a SharePoint site integrated with Reporting Services.
• Report Designer in Business Intelligence Development Studio is a report authoring environment that is hosted in Microsoft Visual Studio.
If we want to
create an .rdlc report file, we should use ReportViewer control in an application project or a Web site. If we want to open an .rdlc report file, we should open the project or web site in Visual Studio. Note that Report Builder and Report Designer are not
included in Visual Studio.
As to the Report Data pane, we should click one report in the Solution Explorer, then select Report Data after clicking View button in the menu pane. The document said that “create a data source reference, and then select the new option.” means we should
create a shared data source in advance (we can create it in Solution Explorer), then use it as data source. If you are create .rdlc report in Visual Studio, we couldn’t create shared data source. But we can create one data source, then use it to create several
reports in the same project.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,

I upgraded my iphone to 5.0.1 and ever since, it has decided to delete old text messages. Only with one contact though, not everybody. So for every new text message I send this person, an old one gets removed. Why? I don't want this to happen.
Connect the phone directly to the computer, not a hub.
Disconnect all other USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
Disable your firewall
Disable your antivirus
In iTunes if it recognizes the phone click "Restore"
If it doesn't recognize the phone:
Disconnect the phone from the phone end, leave the USB cable plugged into the computer
Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until the screen turns black, excactly 10 seconds, then release the SLEEP but continue holding the HOME (If an Apple logo appears you have held SLEEP too long; do it over)
While holding HOME connect the cable to the phone
As soon as iTunes recognizes the phone release the HOME button and it should restore.
If neither procedure works note the exact error message and post it. -
Hi All,
I need to create Report Models using stored procedures. But whenever I am going to create data sources for same, I am just getting tables and views to use. Please see the screenshot below:
Is there any way out to create data source based on stored procedure? Please help.
Thanks in Advance
Regards
KumudHi Kumud,
As per my understanding, it is not support to create a Datasource View (DSV) using stored procedures.
In a DataSource View, only views, tables or named queries can be used. We can use stored procedures in a query. No parameterized queries, parameterized stored procedures or parameterized UDFs can be used in a DSV named query. You can try to using below approach
to achieve what you are require:
To build views in our relational source and add the views to the datasource view to proceed with modelling.
There is a similar issue, you can refer to it.

Need coding support for Accessing MYSQL stored procedure from java
Hi every one,
I need coding support for accessing Mysql stored procedure from java and JSP.
Please help me
pranavYou'd better have a recent version of MySQL, because earlier ones didn't support stored procs.
If your MySQL and driver support stored procs, maybe you just need a JDBC stored proc tutorial.

0x924210I suggest you start by writing a script that contains local variables. These variables correspond to your intended procedure arguments. Once you have that working, you should be able to convert the script into a stored procedure. Since
I don't have Northwind I'll use AdventureWorks as a reference. The script below will not actually run successfully since I did not include all the required information to insert a row into the detail table - but it should give you a rough idea of what
a basic script would look like.
set nocount on;
use AdventureWorks2012;
go
begin tran;
declare @orderid int;
declare @productid int;
declare @qty int;
set @orderid = 10;
set @productid = 1;
set @qty = 4;
insert Sales.SalesOrderDetail (SalesOrderID, ProductID, UnitPrice, OrderQty)
select @orderid, prod.ProductID, prod.ListPrice, @qty
from Production.Product as prod where prod.ProductID = @productid;
rollback tran;

Why Dynamic Parameter is not working, when i create report using stored procedure ?
Post Author: Shashi Kant
CA Forum: General
Hi all
Why Dynamic Parameter is not working, when i create report XI using stored procedure ?
Only i shaw those parameters which i used in my stored procedure, the parameter which i create dynamic using stored procedure
is not shown to me when i referesh the report for viewing the results.
I have used the same procedure which i mention below but can not seen the last screen which is shown in this .
============================================================================================
1. Select View > Field Explorer2. Right-click on Parameter Fields and select New from the right-click menu.3. Enter u201CCustomer Nameu201D as the name for your parameter4. Under u201CList of Valuesu201D select u201CDynamicu201D5. Under the Value column, click where is says u201Cclick here to add itemu201D and select Customer Name from the drop-down list. The dialog shown now look like the one shown below in Figure 1. Click OK to return to your report design.
Dynamic Parameter Setup6. Next, select Report > Select Expert, select the Customer Name field and click OK.7. Using the drop-down list beside select u201CIs Equal Tou201D and using the drop-down list, select your parameter field (it should be the first field). 8. Click OK to return to your report design and see the parameter dialog.The parameter dialog will appear and show you a dynamic list of values that is updated each time your run your report. It couldnu2019t be easier! In our next tutorial, we will be looking at how to use this feature to create cascading parameter fields, where the values are filtered by the preceding selection.
Dynamic Parameters in Action
My question is that whether dynamic parameter is working with storedprocedure or not.
When i added one table and try to fetch records using dyanmic prameters. after that i am not be able to find the dynamic parameter option when i referesh my report.
One more thing when i try the static parameter for my report, the option i see when i referesh the screen.
Please reply soon , it's urgent

shashi kantHi Kishore,
I have tested the issue step by step by following you description, while the first issue works well in my local environment. Based on my research, this can be caused by the lookup expression or it indeed return Male value based on the logic. If you use the
expression below, it will indeed only return the Male record. So please try to double-check the record in the two datasets and the expression in your environment:
=lookup(first(Fields!ProgramID.Value,"DataSet1"),Fields!ProgramID.Value,Fields!Gender.Value,"DataSet2")
As to the second issue, please try to use the following expression:
=Count(Lookup(fields!ProgramID.value,fields!ProgramID.value,fields!Gender.value,"DataSet2"))
Besides, if this issue still exist, in order to trouble shoot this issue more efficiently, could you please post both the .rdl file with all the size properties to us by the following E-mail address? It is benefit for us to do further analysis.

Is BC4J a viabl option for database with stored procedure (ref cursor) API?
I'm about to begin a Web application development project. As foundation, we have a (Oracle) database of certain complexity that have a data access API developed with PL/SQL packages.
This API is designed to get data through stored procedures/functions that return REF CURSOR.
Personally I have been investigating about Oracle ADF/JSF, and a number of others J2EE technologies, and at this moment I am doubting if ADF BC are a viable option to my development team.
I think this because I have noticed that one of the great drawback in ADF BC is the lack of simplicity to get data through stored procedures/functions that returns REF CURSORS.
I have been looking for documentation and the only thing that I have found are two examples:
1.- One that really do not work (fails in get data from ref cursor): ADF BC StoredProcedure Sample application.
2.- And other published by Steve Muench in
http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/03/03/gettingAViewObjectsResultRowsFromARefCursor.html. This sample works fine.
But, the problem with the approach of this last article is the amount (and complexity) of the code necessary to make so basic and recurrent operation as is "obtain data through a stored procedure (ref cursor)".
Below it is the code that I have constructed to call a function that returns a ref cursor (based on steve's article).
If this is the only way to make this (historically so basic and simple) task, then it is obvious that BC is not a viable technology to my (or I am in a mistake?), since we have about 50 stored procedures/functions to access the underlying data; that stored procedures/functions are key to development of the new application (and, still more, currently are used to anothers apps ).
By all this, I would like consult to Oracle's people:
1.- I really must reject BC as technology to implement this project ?
2.- It is possible to access stored procedures in a simpler way using BC?
3.- If the answer to 2 is NOT: in near future, the BC team has plans to give more support to the simple access to stored procedures?
4.- If the answer to 3 is NOT: what another technology you recommend to construct my data access/business tier and still be able to using the others characteristics of ADF?
Thank you very much for your guidelines.
Regards, RL.

How to write call specs for a java stored procedure that takes a nested obj
Example Class :
public class B {
int number;
String str;
public class A {
private B[] _childern;
public B[] getChildern(){
return _children
public static void saveAll(A a) throws SQLException {
B[] children = a.getChildern();
for(int i=0; i<children.length; i++){
saveChild(children);
public static void saveChild(B ch)throws SQLException {
// do something
What would be the call specification for the method A.saveAll(A)? Your help will be apprecited.
Thank you
AjmalIn other words, How to pass a Java Object from a Java stored procedure to a Java client ???
Hello,
I don't know to deal with a Vector object that has been generated from a stored procedure.
Should I create first in the JDBC client and pass it as argument to the procedure ?
Thanks in advance. Here is an extract ...
On the client side :
<<
Vector buffer = new Vector();
CallableStatement call =
con.prepareCall ("{call my_procedure_run (?, ?)}");
call.registerOutParameter(2, java.sql.Types.JAVA_OBJECT );
call.setString (1, "bla bla bla");
call.setObject (2, buffer);
call.execute ();
buffer = (Vector)call.getObject (2);
>On the Java stored procedure
<<
public class my_procedure
public static void Run(String input_value, Vector buffer)
// ??? Vector buffer = new Vector();
try
while ( true )
buffer.addElement(...) ;
catch(Exception ex) { } -
So what I mean:
I have stored procedure like this:
CREATE PROCEDURE sp_Example
@param1 NVARCHAR(20) = '',
@param2 DATE = ''
AS
BEGIN
IF (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Table1 WHERE (Name = @param1 OR @param1 = '') AND (StartDate = @param2 OR @param2 = '')) > 2
BEGIN
SELECT Name, Date, Price, Etc
FROM Table2
WHERE (Name = @param1 OR @param1 = '') AND (StartDate = @param2 OR @param2 = '')
END
IF (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Table1 WHERE (Name = @param1 OR @param1 = '') AND (StartDate = @param2 OR @param2 = '')) < 2
BEGIN
SELECT Name, Date, Price, Etc
FROM Table3
WHERE (Name = @param1 OR @param1 = '') AND (StartDate = @param2 OR @param2 = '')
END
END
So in stored procedure are some input parameters and they are passed into IF statement.
If I use this stored procedure as report's dataset (Microsoft Visual Studio 2013) in following:
Add
Dataset > Query
Type: Stored Procedure > sp_Example It
do NOT get any fields, but get parameters
If I use this stored procedure in following:
Add
Dataset > Query
Type: Text > EXECUTE
sp_Example It get all required fields, but do NOT get parameters
Of course If I add manually parameters or fields It not working.
If I change IF statement
in stored procedure something like:
IF (1 < 3)
BEGIN
SELECT Name, Date, Price, Etc
FROM Table3
WHERE (Name = @param1 OR @param1 = '') AND (StartDate = @param2 OR @param2 = '')
END
It normally working in report (getting all fields and parameters). So problem is that I pass parameters to IF statement.
Have you any ideas how to pass parameters to IF statement
and get It correctly working on report?Hi Stanisolvas,
Per my understanding that you are experending some issue when using the stored procedure to create the dataset, you can't get the fields to display under the dataset, right?
I have tested on my local environment with the same script as your and can't reproduce the issue, Please try to check and provide more details information according to below points:
What do you mean of not get any fields, Is that mean no table header along with the value will display? If you got any error message, please provide it.
Did you use any temp table in the stored procedure, if so, the issue can be caused by the temp table you are using, please don't use temp table in it which will cause no fields display.
If you use the second method to execute the procedure, please check to make sure you have added the script like below to make the parameters display in the report:
exec sp_Example @Param1=@Param1,@Param2=@Param2
Please execute the stored procedure in the SQL Server Management Studio like below to see if the stored procedure will works fine:
exec sp_Example @Param1='Test1',@Param2='2014-10-15'
If this work fine in the management studio, please try to create an new report to re-add this procedure.
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

Vicky Liu

Set date as MM/dd/yyyy as in parameter for SQL Server stored procedure
I have string date in MM/dd/yyyy .
My requirement is to send date as in parameter to stored procedure in format MM/dd/yyyy .
CallableStatement cstmt=null;
cstmt = connection.prepareCall("{......
How this to be done .I am Using SQL server.
If i do like below data field is not updated by my code.
cstmt.setTimestamp
cstmt.setDate
But if procedure is executed from SQL Query Anylaxer procedure is updatingHi,
The format that appears by Default for date printing in the List is picked from SU01 parameters or SU3
You can change the defaults by going into ur system profile.
Su01 - Change - Go into Defaults tab.
U can see various details like Start Menu, Logon lamguage, Decimal notation and date format. Choose the format u want and save .
But the Date Format Is not reflected just by changing the format, you need to Log Off and Log In again to see the changed format in the output.

I have SQL login group as "SC_NT\group_name" in server. There are multiple users using this login group to access database objects. User "A" can able to access db object(stored_procedure_1) from .net application. But when user "B"
tried to access same db object(stored_procedure_1), its showing like
Error: The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'stored_procedure_1', database 'test',schema 'dbo'.
Both the users are using windows authentication for access the objects. Could you suggest me the way to resolve this?
VenkatThanks for your response
Erland Sommarskog....
my stored procedure "stored_procedure_1"
does not has any granted permissions to execute. But still user A
able to execute the sp from UI, where user B not able to do it. If any permission provided for a particular object, then only it will display in the above query whatever u have given.
Any other possibilities??

Crystal Report not showing fields when connected to a stored procedure
I have a Stored Procedure that returns results when run in SQL Server, but when I add this to a Crystal Report it doesn't show any fields in the Field Explorer. But if I try any other SP, it works fine and I can see its fields.
As you can see in the picture below, I am unable to expand the fields in the report while creating the report using standard report procedure too.
I tried different ways, but nothing worked for me here. Please help me here.
(FYI, I am using Crystal Reports 2008, SQL Server 2008R2)Hi Jamie,
I just found out the reason for this issue.
I wrote the stored procedure using the fields in the Datamart but the fields in the datamart in backend are connected to a different database which doesn't have SQL Server Authentication (for the Credentials) and that's the reason I was getting this issue.
Once my BI team granted the permission, for that fields connecting to the backend database, I was able to see all fields in the Crystal Report. -
CLASSPATH configuration for jsp (java stored procedures)
Hi.
I have a very simple question for you people.
I don't know where to set up the CLASSPATH configuration on a HP-UX so that Aurora can see this include jar file and my java stored procedure can run correctly.
Thanks a lot.
Flavio MatielloThe way global variables could be created using java classes is by using static variables.The class variable values are stored in the JVM's memory
In Oracle8i Each session gets its own JVM & hence you cannot have a Java class variable which could
span across sessions.
Hope this helps -
Howto avoid specifying the type for every subclass?
Hi,
I have a base-class called DynTableColumn, one subclass which further restricts the type and a bunch of subclasses of that type.
class BaseClass<E> {}
StricterBaseClass<E extends ArgumentType> extends BaseClass<E> {}
ConcreteClass1<E extends ArgumentType> extends StricterBaseClass<E> {}
ConcreteClass2<E extends ArgumentType> extends StricterBaseClass<E> {}
ConcreteClass3<E extends ArgumentType> extends StricterBaseClass<E> {}
ConcreteClass4<E extends ArgumentType> extends StricterBaseClass<E> {}Is there any way to avoid specifying <E extends ArgumentType> for ConcreteClass 1-4 again and again?
After all, the type information is already set by StricterBaseClass.
Re-thinking the question I guess I am searching for a way to de-generify concrete subclasses.
For the example above I know the generic type is of type ArgumentType, so no further need to specify it in the class hierachy nore at construction time.
Thank you in advance, Clemenslinuxhippy wrote:

StricterBaseClass extends BaseClass<ArgumentType> {}
ConcreteClass1 extends StricterBaseClass {}
ConcreteClass2 extends StricterBaseClass {}
ConcreteClass3 extends StricterBaseClass {}
ConcreteClass4 extends StricterBaseClass {}However, the desire to save a few characters in the class declaration doesn't have much merit - after all the small amount of characters in "<E extends ArgumentType>" is surely negligible with regards to the number of characters needed for actual implementations of class methods, isn't it? -
How to invoke Oracle stored procedures in Web Intelligence Custom SQL ?
Hi,
Referring to some older posts, I see that there is a work around to invoke a stored procedure to return results for a Web Intelligence report. Its been posted for calling a MS SQL stored proc, whereas the mentioned method does not seem to work for an Oracle Stored Procedure.
Steps I followed:
a) This is the parameter I have added in the oracle.sbo file => <Parameter Name="Force SQLExecute">Procedures</Parameter>
b) My stored procedure code is as follows:
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE get_emp_details(var_first_name OUT VARCHAR) AS
BEGIN
SELECT first_name INTO var_first_name
FROM EMP_DETAILS_VIEW
WHERE EMPLOYEE_ID = 100;
END;
c) Custom SQL code I added in my Webi report:
set nocount on;
/* SELECT
EMP_DETAILS_VIEW.FIRST_NAME
FROM
EMP_DETAILS_VIEW
exec get_emp_details;
On trying to validate the SQL it gives me the following error message: "The SQL query has 0 instead of 1 columns.(WIS 10810)"
Has anyone been able to successfully call an Oracle Stored procedure using the above method ?
Version of BO: XI R3 SP2
Oracle version: 11gR2
PS: I am aware that web intelligence since XI R3.1 does allow use of a dedicated Stored Procedure Universe. I would want to know if it could
be made to run in a normal Universe(not a stored procedure Universe)
Thanks for your time and inputs.
Regards,
JezEXECUTE is a SQL Plus command. You can directly call SP in PL/SQL
DECLARE
modif number;
BEGIN
select data_length into modif from user_tab_columns where table_name='CONTROL' and column_name='POSITION';
IF modif < 10 THEN
droptable('CONTROL');
execute immediate('CRETAE TABLE CONTROL ....';
