Not the same old water damage story.

Alright...I confess...it probably is. But after reading through virtually every thread on the topic I've decided to post anyway as there are a few variables particular to my situation, to see what you all think is the best course of action.
Long story short: A pipe in my ceiling burst, causing my ceiling to cave in; luckily I was in the room at the time so I was able to unplug and shut down my MBP before (I thought at the time) virtually any water had touched it. By the time I got to rescuing the adapter, it was sitting in a puddle of water.
I don't recall if I removed the battery immediately or the following morning, but either way I know the first thing I did was shut down the computer. After about 48 hours of removed battery, sporadic hair dryer and space heater attention, and indirect indoor sunlight, the computer still won't so much as turn on. After reading these threads I realize this was a bit premature, but I tried plugging it into the original adapter, at which point the green light did not light up--nothing. I tried my friend's adapter, which did light up, but still nothing from the computer. I backed off, re-removed the battery and RAM cover, opened the display, turned the computer upside down, and have it in a warm place again.
What do you guys think? More drying time? Take it for repair immediately? I know it won't be covered, but I'm talking to the landlord tomorrow to see if I can get compensated for repair. I doubt they'll agree to completely replace a $2000 computer. I'm antsy--my computer is my job--but I can be patient if I have to. At any rate, what the heck do I do about an adapter?
Appreciate the help.

Hi thedodus,
Glad you got things going again but I would still pursue a claim against the LL's insurance even if it is a contingent claim so that if your comp does fail and Apple tells you no warranty you're covered. At the very least I would insist on a new power cable and maybe a HDD. The remainder of the AppleCare warranty would be a fair and reasonable contingency period.
For reference: The renters insurance mentioned by the other poster is something that you would purchase, and it would cover damage and theft of your property or if you had a waterbed, fish tank or something else that causes damage to the apartment or other tenants property, that too.
Having repaired many spill damages I find that 99% of the time ,If you disconnect the keyboard and/or track pad it would have most likely started up.
The first place the moisture enters is through the keypad (somewhat "protecting" what's below) which has a printed circuit "board" that is nothing more than a few very thin layers of plastic with the connections printed on it. The space between them is less than a piece of paper and when moister get between them they no longer "float" and get sucked together. The lack of air prevents drying so it is slow process. it is in essence, like holding down every key when you're trying to start up. The use of a hair dryer or heat gun could result in warping these causing permanent damage.

  • WEIRD Neo2 Power-on problem (no, not the same old thing)

First post, go easy on me:
My new Neo2 has what seems (at first glance) to be one of the most common problems I've read about here and on other forums: After windows shutdown, the machine will not power on at all using the front power switch.  To get power, I have to clear the CMOS, and then the machine comes on and boots perfectly as soon as power is applied (without pressing front power button).  I've tried the 4xHt setting as suggested here and elsewhere, no joy.  I have not updated my BIOS from 1.4 stock yet, but will be soon due to voltage needs(prolly to 1.37mod).
Anyway, in researching this problem, I've come across something strange that may be helpful to others.  When checking my front panel connections on the MB, I noticed that there is only one "Power switch" connector on the MB.  I'm referring to the 2 prongs that the power switch lead connects to.....I only have one prong.  the positive prong seems to be missing (the one with the white "+" at the base).  This isn't normal is it?  The machine is rock solid, even OC'd,other than this one issue.
Having said all that, I have 2 main questions.
    1. Would this missing prong produce the symptom I'm having?  After all, the power switch seems to just not work at all.  If it weren't for the little "glitch" with some Neo2's where the machine comes on when power is applied, I dont think I would ever have gotten this thing to power up.  Ironic huh?
    2. Assuming question 1 is a yes, can I fix this?  I refuse to RMA this board, as it's overclocking very well so far, and judging by the low voltages used so far, I'm not even close to maxing it out yet.
Any help or insight appreciated.  Thanks.
P.S it may be worth mentioning that others with similar problems might want to verify the integrity of both prongs with a voltmeter.

It certainly is not normal for one of the two power pins to be missing from the MB.  However, all that connector does is to allow the  front panel button to start (and stop) sending operating power to the MB.  It has no affect on performace of the MB if you power it on some other way (i.e, by clearing CMOS).  I would guess that MSI purposely allowed the fans to come on when starting up the system for the first time (or after CMOS clearing) to let the user know what that the MB is not "dead".  I assume you are not able to power the system off with the front panel power swich or restart it after you shut down Windows.  Neither of these should work if the power switch connector is not correctly connected.
As mentioned above, it is a rather simple job to have a qualified technician replace the pin, assuming the connection below the pin is in good shape.  But I would only trust a compter technician to do the job, and then only after he tells me that he has done it before.  Otherwise, I think your only option is to RMA the board.
    Good luck.

Whether or not you are able to recover the data off the drive yourself will depend on if the drive suffered any impact damage in the crash. You can buy USB SATA or IDE adapters (Intel and almost all G5 use SATA) that will let you connect your hard drive to a computer (like a flash drive) to see if you can recover the data. If the drive has suffered physical damage if may not mount.
If you know someone who has one of these adapters you could try using theirs, otherwise you could buy one but you take the risk of the data on the drive being non recoverable. Regardless, both are much cheaper than $1699!
(Alternatively, if you know of someone with a Mac Pro or PowerMac G5 they may be able to install the drive in their machine and try to boot from or mount it and copy the data off.)

  • My iPhone serial number and IMEI is not the same as Apple server

    Hello,
My problem started when I want to unlock my iphone 3gs via Imei.
My old iphone broke about a month after i bought it (it was 2 years ago), so i sent it to Movistar to change it (i think that they sent it to appleCare). Now Movistar told me that i have to send the old iphone imei in order to unlock the iphone i have now, i ask apple for the repair order receipt, then i received an email and i could see the information about the 2 iphones: the old broken one and the new one.
Then I realized that the iphone they sent me as a replacement (the new one) is not the same iphone i have. The serial number and the Imei are different, so, should apple change this data in their server in order to unlock my iphone or what can i do to solve it?
There is any formal way to perform this data change?
    Thank you in advance,
    Francisco Marzabal

Here we work with repairs for devices that does not have waranty (expired or other issue). In this case, I did the screen replacement. No other ipad was on my station, the ipad arrives, i took it change the glass, put everithing back, give to customer. Thats it. The job was done by me, the customer test his ipad in front on me, works fine, everything ok. Few days pass and he came back saying that it wasn't his ipad, he brings the box that the ipad came and ask me why the serial number does not match the serial number in the box (sorry NOT in the back of the ipad).
There were no other part changed only glass. After 7 years working on this, thats the first customer complaining about a work done here. After this I was curious and look for more information and some forums, also one port here is claiming that the serial number on the device is not the same as the box where it came.
I just want to make sure that there are possibilities that there could be such mistake during the packaging process.
    Thanks for the replies

  • HT204053 Seems my iCloud password is not the same as my iTunes.  Where do I go to reset my iCloud password?  I cannot access anything when prompted to put in my iCloud password because I do NOT KNOW it.  Thanks!

Seems my iCloud password is not the same as my iTunes.  Where do I go to reset my iCloud password?  I cannot access anything when prompted to put in my iCloud password because I do NOT know it.  Thanks!  I've used my iTunes password for everything else Apple does and would like to use the same one for my iCloud.

    Do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

  • Hierarchies are not the same as in R/3

    Hi experts !
My Hierarchies in BW we are not the same as the source hierarchy in R/3.
They are not time-dependant, and the upload is scheduled every night, and gives no error messages.
Is there any known issues here?
I'm in the 7.0 version, but the upload for the hierarchy is in the old version.
The source hierarchy for account is using intervalls. Is that a problem ?
    Thankfull for good advise !
Is there a possibility that the production bw is loading from the wrong client.. ?
That the RFC connection secretly gets the Hierarchies from elsewhere...

  • Logic Express 9 Vocal Transformer Not the Same as Manual

I've searched high and low and cannot find anything. I just purchased LE 9 last week and as I was gong through the Effects manual noticed that the "vocal transformer" I have is not the same as the one shown in the manual.
The one I have with LE 9 only has 2 parameters/sliders and is the old hideous brushed aluminum interface.
Contrast this with the one in the LE 9 manual which has pitch, format, pitch base, mix, tracking, and robotize to name a few. (I also searched online and there are a few youtube videos of LE 8 with this same interface, so I know it's not new.)
I have FCS 2(Soundtrack Pro) on my machine, but as a matter of testing, I installed LE 9 on my iMac which does not contain any other audio applications and the same effect unit came up for Vocal Transformer.
Can anyone confirm that LE 9 should have the Vocal Transformer unit that I saw in the manual? It's a little frustrating to say the least.

    Hi,
if I remember well, it was already like that in LE8. The manual shows theLogic Pro version.
So, unless I'm mistaken, it's simply a misprint in the manual...

  • Fed up with The same OLD APPS in App store.

I have been staring at the same old Apps in App store since july 11th. Please developers give us some more Apps. I have read that Old jailbroken Iphones have 1000's of Apps. We have a few hundred.

You also need to be aware that it isn't just the developer...Apple has to approve the apps before they will permit them on the iPhone. That process takes time. Only Apple approved apps are then added to the app store.
Second, you will never see all the apps that are available on jailbroken phones because the SDK does not permit access to the phone features themselves -- if you look at those jailbroken apps, you will see all kinds of apps that access the iPod feature, the video features, the camera features. You will find bad MMS apps, you will find all kinds of things that will never be approved by Apple for the iPhone and won't end up in the official Apple App Store.
Be patient, more applications will come, but you have to be realistic about what will and what will not be available.

Would I have probelems right away if it was water damage????help please

"only about 3/2.5 inches was with water of this corner.?
How much is that in plain speak?
    Spill Cleaning
And, don't think that just because it was two teaspoons and not a glassful that there is a difference.
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).
Do not put in a bag of rice in as much as rice will get into the ports and optical drive and do further damage.

  • Log-on client 200 is not the same as BI clients "600"

    Hi Experts,
My data load got failed and when i checked the error message, it says " Log-on client 200 is not the same as BI clients "600"".
    Diagnosis
You are using client-dependent BI functions in client 200. However, the standard BI client is 600.
    System Response
    The function is terminated.
    Procedure
Maintain a destination in the BI standard client. For information, see SAP Note 522569.
I went through the sap note and checked the maintenance of  rfc desination. But not able to uderstand this issue. Do anyone have good idea about this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Anand

    Hi,
In BW, you must work on only client. As the error said, you log on to client 200, but using 600 client as the connected one. Please check the source system conncection whether it is given for the default client in RSADMINA table BWMANDT field or not. if not change that.

  • Line item Ship-to Info is not the same in Header Ship-to Party During Sales Order Creation via IDOC

We have observed that during creation of sales order using idoc, the line item ship-to party is not the same with header ship-to. The ship-to party info in line item is equivalent to the header's sold to party. To give you a quick background, Sold to party info is given in idoc and ship to party is being determined using table EDPAR. In this specific scenario, sold to customer is not the same with ship to customer.
Initial checking on the code leads us in function module VIEW_KUAGV. This FM populates partner details of sales order header and line item in program LVEDAF1Z
Below is the code for Sales order Header. Notice that WE_INPUT parameter which contains Ship to party is passed as exporting parameter in FM VIEW_KUAGV. This is the reason why Ship to Party is populated correctly in sales order header but not in sales order item.
Initially, it first set to Sold-To Party. However, if WE_INPUT is given or provided, partner details is set to Ship-To Party.
Please advise on how we can make the ship to party info in header and line item be consistent. This is SAP Standard program which why we are hesitant to make change on the program. If there is a configuration to make this happen, kindly advise.
    Regards,
    Rommel

    Hi Jayesh,
If I understand you correctly, you want that when creating SO from Quoatation
the Ship to Party also follow/copy Ship to Party from Quotation, right?
Just to confirm with you, when you creating SO reference from Quotation, you
use copy/follow-up function, am I right?
You can do this by setting in configuration of Copy Control (like mentioned by Hui).
    Step as follow :
    1. Go to IMG->CRM->Transactions->Basic Settings->Copying Control for
        Business Transactions
    2. Create your BAdi (Business Add-In for Copying Control), such as get Ship to
Party value from source document and use it in current document
    3. Use this Rule you have created in BAdi (no. 2), in copy control transaction type
        IMG->CRM->Transactions->Basic Settings->Copying Control for
Business Transactions-> Define Copying Control for Transaction Types
    4. Here you set Copying Routine for your transaction types (put name of your Badi
        created in step no. 2)
Or alternatively, you can set it on access sequence in Partner Function
Ship to Party in configuration. You can define access sequence the Ship
to Party is taken from Preceeding Document -> Ship To Party
    1. Go to Partner Function access sequence :
        IMG->CRM->Basic Functions->Partner Processing->Define Access Sequence
    2. Create new access sequence with following entry :
        - Source COM_PARTNER_A (PrecedingPartner)
        - Check Mapping for Partner Being search
        - Partner Function in Source  = Ship To Party
    3. Assign this Access Sequence in you Partner Function used in Sales Order Transaction
       Type.
Tell me if this is what you looking for

  • With iTunes match, order of the songs in my playlist of mobile devices is not the same as on my computer

In my iTunes on computer, I have several smart play lists. Within each playlist, songs are set to a certain order. Some playlist songs order are organized by name, some playlists are organized by Album, some playlists are organized by artist etc.
When I was syncing my iPhone and iPad directly with my computer, the playlists on my mobile device had same order of songs as on my itunes in computer.
Now, I signed up for iTunes match. With iCloud sync, order of the songs in my playlist of mobile devices is not the same as on my computer. In fact, order of songs within a playlist appears to be completely random. Moreover, order of songs are different in my iPhone 4s and iPad 2
How can I change the order of songs on my mobile devices or how do I make iTunes match to sync my songs such that within a playlist, my songs are in the same order as that of iTunes on my computer.

Thanks mracole. I assume this means order of songs will work with regular play lists I iTunes match. Will try it this afternoon and report.
Please let me know if my understanding is not correct.
Best regards and thanks once again.

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able toauthorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.
