Not Widely Deploying the SCCM Console?

Hello all -
We are in the process of implementing SCCM 2012 R2 and the company I work for is fairly spread out, with lots of geographically dispersed locations and IT staff. Ideally we were looking to not deploy the SCCM console to these folks, but instead find
ways to make the functionality work outside of it. A few examples are:
All needed Collections based off AD Security Groups (tested this works)
SCCM Remote Connection, pull out of the console (tested this works)
I had a few questions based on this scenario:
Is there any way to make the resource explorer accessible outside of the SCCM Console?
Do a lot of people try and extrapolate the functionality out of SCCM like we are, or do most people deploy and train on the console?
When we were just looking at the collections and remove connection, i'll admit that I was leaning towards not deploying the console. Once I found out folks needed the Resource Explorer I started to wonder if just deploying the console would be the best
bet. I am worried we will keep finding these scenarios and it may been beneficial to just go the route of the console from the beginning.
I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

A couple of additional notes here. The console uses a "fat" RPC connection to the SMS Provider. This generally does not perform well over WAN links so if you truly have a very spread IT population of folks needing access to console, I highly
recommend you use an RDSH solution.
Next, resource explorer would be the last reason I would give anyone access to the console. It's a nice tool for sure, but you can get the exact same (and a whole lot more) information out of the reports. I'm not saying don't give them the console,
just that resource explorer is not all that useful at the end of the day and can easily be replaced by reports.

  • SCCM client uninstall from the SCCM console

    Hi All,
Would it be possible to uninstall the SCCM client already installed on a workstation via the SCCM console?
Or the only method would be via ccmsetup /uninstall ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You cannot uninstall the client from the console "out of the box". But if you modify the console you can add the feature. You can get the feature from the right click tools - http://www.myitforum.com/myITWiki/SCCMTools.ashx or from the Config Mgr Client Center - http://sourceforge.net/projects/smsclictr

  • Automating the Update Management Controller action from the SCCM console

After successfully provisioning over 2,000 PCs for SCCM OOB management through the in-band approach, we now have a requirement to change the current settings which can be initiated against specific computer objects from the SCCM console.
Is there anyway to automate this process? and to get some form of confirmation that the update has been applied apart from keeping eyes glued to the AMT provisioning logs. I suspect the requirement to update the settings will occur again in
    the future.
    Thanks,  Alan

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

  • Deploying the SCCM 2012 Client to WES 7 devices that are locked down with the FBWF using 2007 task sequence via WEDM.

I'm wondering how people are migrating their embedded devices that are using the FBWF. I've done some googling and it seems like most people are just re-imaging the devices and after migrating a single device i see why. Its not a pretty process. This will
be a long description but ultimately my question stems more from trying to find a better way to execute the device migration from 2007 to 2012.
Some back ground on my situation might be in order here. I'm in the process of wrapping up our 2007 to 2012 migration. We have a 2007 infrastructure that was a central server with 2 primaries and 286 secondary site servers. I've consolidated that to a single
2012 primary site server that hosts all the main roles. There are 2 more servers in the data centers both operating solely as push distribution points I'll refer to them as 2012 01 02 and 03. I'm over half way through the migration and so far haven't needed
to offload any site roles. There are almost 10,000 clients now reporting to the 2012 site server and almost a 100 field servers pulling content from 2012 02 as their source dp as pull dp is the only way forward for this many devices. I've read the horror stories
of trying spin up 200 plus push dps. We are running PKI. I'm at the point now where i need to start migrating the Windows Embedded Seven Standard clients that have the 2007 sccm client on them with WEDM for write filter handling.
What i'm wondering is if anyone has any pointers for me regarding migrating the WES 7 devices. My plan that i've come up with is to somehow script the process using a 2007 WEDM Task Sequence to try and migrate them over to 2012. Things are complicated as
I need to somehow script the install, the policy checkin, hardware inventory, software inventory, and validate the SCEP client installs before I reboot the device one last time to enable the FBWF. How I handled the SCCM 2007 client install on these devices
when they were provisioned was to just create a batch file that would sleep for ten minutes then check to see if the inventoryagent.log file had been created yet. I realize now that is inefficient as i can kick off the inventory using a WMI method once the
client has installed. Also I need to make sure the machine gets its first policy as that is how it creates the communication using PKI through that first policy transfer and that also finalizes the client install. The biggest piece i'm uncertain about in this
    regard is the SCEP client.
I had to change the SCEP client install from yes to no in the default client settings as we have some Mcaffee servers that can't have the SCEP client on them. I have incremental updates enabled on the collection that has the policy that installs the SCEP
client but this will take an unknown amount of time unless i force the environment to update as the device starts in 2012 install, or if I could kick off the SCEP isntall... IDK. I'm also wondering if i should keep the device in the migration process until
i validate it has its proper scep policy applied which I believe can be validated by a registry key somewhere.
Once the 2012 client gets installed will that cause it to lose its place within the 2007 Task Sequence? Considering its going to take a minimum of 2 reboots I'd normally use the task sequence to handle its progression through the process.
I'm also considering trying to use an Orchestrator runbook, as that would be a good way to keep track of the migration process as each device migrates. Especially since this might take several seperate scripts.
I'm going to take a stab at scripting the migration process, but if anyone has any pointers that might make this a less complicated I'd really appreciate it as I've got about 3000 of these devices that need to be migrated over. The other things i've learned
the hard way is any time you have something this complicated over the course of 3000 devices you will run into unknowns and the failure rate increases. I'm in the precarious position of having to not only build this process out but in some situations have
it complete in the shortest amount of time possible as we have sites running 24x7. I know the end users behavior all to well and they will just keep hitting the power button sometimes even though their not supposed to so they can get their device functional
again. In those situations i'd end up, if i'm lucky with a device that no longer has a healthy SCCM client in either environment and the write filter disabled.
So like i said any pointers anyone could throw my way i'd really appreciate. I manually went through the migration process on a single device for proof of concept and ended up with almost 2 pages of pseudo code for my migration script/scripts.
    Thanks,
    -K.R.

    Hi,
In R2 there are some new variables you can use to solve this,
    http://ccmexec.com/2014/12/smstsmplistrequesttimeout-value-in-milliseconds/
In Sp1 though adding a step to sleep for 2-5 minuter after reboot and before the application install step is a common workaround.. a powershell command with "Start-Sleep
    -s 120" should do it.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Server without Service Pack 1 was flag "Not Required" during the SCCM patching/deploying SP1 for 2008

    Dear Brothers,
I come to a scenario were one of our Windows 2008 R2 Server without Service Pack 1, was Flag under SCCM 2007 Reports Update Status for Service Pack 1 deployment to be "Not
    Required" which definitely inaccurate.
What I want to know what are the conditions for the Software Update to send a status to SCCM Server that the Service Pack is “Not
Required” instead of the other way around?
Is there anyone that can guide me to any KB Article regarding this behavior?
    Regards,

Yes, I know this is an old post, I’m trying to clean them up. Did you figure this out, if so how?
I have seen this before and what I have done is manually applied the SP1 to the server. Only then did the error show up as why SP1 didn’t apply. After fixing the error, CM was apply to apply SP1 and other SU to the server.

  • How to keep clients from disappearing from the SCCM console

I am running SCCM2012R2 in an environment with about 60 desktops as well as 8 laptops that are only occasionally connected to our internal network.
I've noticed that some computers such as the laptops that are seldom on the network and desktops that have been sitting ready in a cabinet for several months have disappeared from the Devices list.
I assume this is part of aging old clients out but I would like those clients to remain, possibly forever and then I can manually remove as needed.
I assume the settings I need to change are in Monitoring->Client Status which are all set to the defaults.  Or do I just need to turn off something in Site Maintenance? Or both?
    Thanks

Client Status Settings has a maximum of 30 days.
You can max it out, but additionally, you also need to configure the Site Maintenance Tasks (there are
a few - e.g. Delete Aged Discovery Data). Just check their purpose on technet.

  • Problem with Out of Band Discovery resulting with Out of Band features not available in SCCM console for computers with provisioned AMT device

    Hi,
We configured the Out of Band component, but are using Intel SCS RCS to provision AMT devices remotely. The remote configuration process with Intel SCS works fine; we are able to connect to the AMT web UI and we can use a free KVM tool to manage the computer
    remotely.
The AMT devices are configured with AD integration, so an object is created for each of them in a specific OU. Also, an AD group is added to the AMT devices so remote PT Administration permission is granted to it. This group includes the ConfigMgr Site
Server account, the account of the server running the Out of Band Service Point and my own user account.
This configuration seems OK since when connecting to the AMT web UI, I use Windows Integrated authentication with my user account and can manage the device successfully.
So the only step remaining is running the OOB discovery to enable Out of Band features for the computers in the SCCM console. We want to use the ConfigMgr OOB console. I right-click a computer or a collection and launch the AMT discovery. I check the OOB
server log, I don't see errors; the OOB service point connects to the AMT device and discover a status of 4, which is Externally provisioned, as expected. The problem is the AMT Status, AMT Version and Provisioned AMT fields for the computer in the ConfigMgr
console doesn't get updated, even after doing display refresh.

I found something interesting on this problem, it seems the OOB discovery process is working fine, but for an unknown reason, the site server is not receiving the information from the OOB Service Point to update the AMT Status of the client in the SCCM
    database.
The log tells me that a DDR file is created to be sent to the site server. When looking into the SMS\MP\Outboxes\ddr.box folder, I see about 50 DDR files, the oldest one is dated when I started testing OOB discovery.
So the server is unable to send the files to the site server.
Also, since I started this thread, I noticed another issue that could be related to this problem. The same server is also holding the State Migration Point role, it is working fine, but when doing USMT operations, the status of the computer association is
not updated in the console (In Progress, Completed, missing USMT store path, etc.). When looking into the SMS folder on the server, I see a big backlog of SVF files containing information related to the SMP.
I looked into the log files, but didn't find the errors yet to explain this.
The computer account of the server is a member of the SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_Stat_XXX group on the site server.
Note that status messages are being sent successfully, I see them in the Monitoring node of the console under Component State, and there is no backlog in the SMS\MP\Outboxes\statemsg.box folder.
    Tnx for your help

  • The ovmcore-console libraries were not found on the system!!

    Hi all,
I need help to open serial console from Oracle VM Manager GUI.
I'm using the beta version 3.3 of Oracle VM Manager and the agent with Oracle VM Server 3.1 installed on a SPARC Enterprise T5240.
I created a virtual machine with the manager, but when i try to launch serial console i have the following message:
    "Error 404: Page not found.
The ovmcore-console libraries were not found on the system.
Please install the correct ovmcore-console rpm suitable for your system on the Manager server.
See the Oracle VM Installation Guide for additional information."
    any help ?

Thank you for testing Oracle VM Manager 3.3 beta.
We are still reviewing ovmcore-console package and have not made it public yet. Meanwhile, please use the following workaround to access the VM console:
You can redirect the remote port to local using the ssh(1) command.
    1) From Oracle VM Manager UI, find out the UUID of the virtual machine. For example: 0004fb0000060000e98127266687b615.
    2) Log into Oracle VM server (dom0), use xm list command to get the domain id. In this example, the domain id is 2. The VNC port number will be 59xx, starting with 5900.
    # xm list -l 2 |grep 59
    (location 127.0.0.1:5900)
    3) From your own desktop, then you can execute the command in a local shell to redirect the port to your desktop:
    $ ssh -L 12345:localhost:5900 -N -f root@OVS
    4) The "5900" port will be redirected to "12345" of your local desktop, so that you can run the following command to connect the guest console:
    $ vncviewer local:12345
    5) For Windows, you can set up an ssh tunnel by using PuTTY for example.

  • Unified Communications Attendant console: queue does not show in the client

    Hello,
I have Cisco Unified Attendant Console - Department Edition 9.1.1.10 in conjunction with CUCM 9.1.1.
My problem is that when I login with the operator account to the client the queue does not show up as expected.
I have configured the queue, synchronized with CUCM, i can see it in CUCM under device/CTI route point, i have associated the queue to the operator in user configuration queue association.
but when i login as the opeartor to the client i can not see it.
    any help is apreciated.
    thanks

    Hi,
This is working correctly, as you can only associated a single queue (department), this is not displayed in the operator console client.
You only see the queue list in Business, Enterprise or Premium Edition.
