[NOTE] Adding xsi type to SOAP messages

Here is a quick 2.0.10 note.
Some older SOAP stack require xsi type information embedded in the SOAP message to unmarshall the XML message into the appropriate object representation.
Most customers do no want the overhead of xsi type definition into the SOAP message given that most modern SOAP stack perform the unmarshalling based on the WSDL/XML Schema.
To address both requirements, we now by default do not add the xsi:type information to the SOAP traffic that the BPEL PM server generates.
But we have added a new configuration property to the partnerLinkBinding element of the bpel.xml deployment descriptor so that you can ask the BPEL PM server to selectively decorate the SOAP messages targeted at a specific partnerLink. Here is how this looks like:
<partnerLinkBinding name="XXXXX">
<property name="sendXSIType">true</property>
</partnerLinkBinding>
Note: the challenge here is that if you invoke a service that requires XSI type information and you forget to set that flag in the deployment descriptor you will get a BindingFault with no detail :-( We are very aware of this limitation and are working very diligently towards addressing this problem with a much nicer error message in the 2.1 (aka end of September release).

Hi,
thanks for the quick answers.
The Werbservice is MS CRM Dynamics. The "GUI" is still working. so the webservice is active and alive.
I want to query the CRM, so i sent a fetch statement to file, which is being picked up and sent as SOAP message to the webservice.
With point 6 in the mentioned blog the error message in the rwb is gone now, but the message in SXMB_MONI is flagged red and i'm struggling to finfd out what the next error is....may be someone can point out where to look at

  • Message Envelope not found. Probably empty soap message. Error while testing web service

    Hi Gurus,
    I'm new to web service.
    I have created an RFC and a web service to create a pdf.  When I try to test the web service, I'm getting an error : "Message Envelope not found. Probably empty soap message." I have tried all the links available in google, but i'm unable to resolve the issue.
    Can anyone help me to solve this.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Which version/platform are you using?
    The thing you need to consider here is that the JDev proxy settings do not affect the BPEL server.
    So if the BPEL server cannot connect to your webservice, it will not be because of any Jdev setting.
    Check the proxy settings on your BPEL server (on 10.1.2 developer install it will be in obsetenv.bat, on 10.1.3 it will be a commandline property of the JVM - see AS Control administration page for the JVM)

  • SendXSIType not displaying xsi:type information in soap

    We're attempting to communicate with a webservice that requires type information be passed with the SOAP request. I've seen many notes that suggest setting the sendXSIType = true in the partnerLinkBinding will accomplish this. I have set this value and verified it is in the deployed bpel.xml, but the process is still not generating the SOAP request with xsi:type information.
    Has anyone encountered this issue and overcome it? Any advice is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    In case anyone is curious...
    sendXSIType appears to ONLY work with rpc/endcoded style .wsdl files. There is currently a bug logged with Oracle support to determine a fix for document style webservices.
    As a workaround, I used <bpelx:rename> to recast the datatype to itself. Which basically forces the datatype to be used in the SOAP output. More info can be found here:

  • ADDING xml to the SOAP Message from client

    Hi, does anyone know how to add an xml file to the SOAP message passed by the client to the server?
    I need to send an xml file, I have already tried attachments but they dont meet the purpose. I need to send the xml as part of the soap message in AXIS 1_4.
    I read this somewhere about
    SOAPEnvelope env = message.getSOAPEnvelope;
    env.addBodyElement( new RPCElement("SOAPaccess","webservicename", new
              Object[] { }) );
    FileInputStream file = new FileInputStream( "c:\\abcd.xml");
    SOAPBodyElement aBody = new SOAPBodyElement( file );
    file.close();
    env.addBodyElement( aBody );
              However I am not certain how to go about doing this in axis.
    I have been trying to find something related to this, but havent been able to.
    Please let me know if you know how to add xml file to the body of a SOAP message.

    If anyone is interested...I got this working,
    //b is the byte form of the xml document.
    InputStream is = new ByteArrayInputStream(b);
              Document doc =XMLUtils.newDocument(is);
              SOAPElement me = new MessageElement(doc.getDocumentElement());
              SOAPElement a=message.getSOAPBody().addChildElement(me);
              MessageContext mc=_call.getMessageContext();
              mc.setMessage(message);
              mc.getMessage().getSOAPBody().detachNode();
              SOAPBody sb = (SOAPBody)mc.getMessage().getSOAPPart().getEnvelope().addBody();
              sb.addChild(new MessageElement(doc.getDocumentElement()));
              mc.getMessage().saveChanges();
              System.out.println(mc.getMessage().getSOAPPart().getEnvelope());
              SOAPEnvelope env=(SOAPEnvelope)mc.getMessage().getSOAPPart().getEnvelope();

  • Web Services, Schemas, and the xsi:type attribute

    Hi List,
    I have several questions reqarding web services, schemas, and the use of the xsi:type
    attribute in messages.
    Schemas:
    Q1: How complex can a web service schema be?
    Q2: Is it reasonable for a schema to contain derived types by extension [1]?
    Q3: Could you use the International Purchase Order Schema [2] with a web service?
    xsi:type
    Q1: Is it reasonable for a web service to use the xsi:type attribute in the message(s)?
    If I am interpreting Section 4.1.15 of the BasicProfile-1.0a [3] correctly, this
    appears to be appropriate in certain circumstances.
    Q2: When is it appropriate to use the xsi:type attribute? If a schema contains
    derived types by extension [1]? If a schema contains xsd:anyType?
    Q3: How does using the xsi:type attribute affect interoperability?
    And finally,
    Q4: Are there any examples available demonstrating the use of the xsi:type attribute
    in messages?
    Whew !!!

    Currecncy taken in CO area is USD.
    Additional Information :-
    1 ) I have not defined currencies in OB22 currencies for leading ledger. Am I missing there ?
    2 ) Should I maintained additional currenecies for respective company codes as a US Cmpany codes additional currency as CAD & canadian company code additional currency as a USD. Is it the logic ?
    So I am getting this error.
    Currency USD does not match currency type 30.

  • Incoming soap message not parsed

    From a BPEL process I invoke a web service deployed on the oc4j containers of JDev 9.0.4.
    The SOAP message looks like this:
    <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">

              xsi:type="xsd:string">
              <Parameters>x<ParameterName></ParameterName><ParameterValue>y</ParameterValue></Parameters>
    </paramsXML>
    </ns1:invokeMethod>
    </soapenv:Body>
    </soapenv:Envelope>
    The java class that implements the web service (it expects a String argument) gets an empty String instead of the contents of paramsXML above. What is going wrong?

    If you want to use raw XML using xsd:string with an RPC-Encoded service developed using a java String as a parameter, you will have to encode your XML on the sender side.
    The request should looks like this:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
    <env:Envelope xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:ns0="http://acm.org/samples">

    </ns0:invokeMethod>
    </env:Body>
    </env:Envelope>

  • Invalid content type for SOAP: TEXT/HTML; HTTP 404 Not Found

    Hi,
    I have mentioned some issues that I am facing in SOAP receiver adapter:
    [XIAdapter/HTTP/ADAPTER.HTTP_EXCEPTION - HTTP 404 Not Found;
    Apart from that I am trying with unchecking 'Do Not Use SOAP envelope' and by using MessageTransformBean, for which I am getting the following error:
    Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: invalid content type for SOAP: TEXT/HTML; HTTP 404 Not Found: java.io.IOException: invalid content type for SOAP: TEXT/HTML; HTTP 404 Not Found
    Need your help in resolving  this.
    Regards,
    Vishal

    I have some ideas which will help you out. Check the below option one by one:
    1. Check receiver server is accessable from XI/PI system through IP address in command prompt.
    2. Check whether any PORT is enabled for this server. ex: http://ipaddress:portno/XXX/XXX.asmx
    3. You can download webservice tool(SOAP UI and etc..)to check your webservice(WSDL) file able to connect the server by importing webservice file in this tool.
    4. Sometime customer may updated in their application(coding and etc) and not given the updated webservice file to us. so make sure you got updated one.

    I had received similar error , request you to also check following,
    1. while sending the message from IE placed in RWB, just check the URL in the Test Message tab, its possible that this PI is installed just now and its settings are not done correctly. In this ask the owner or the BASIS to change it to correct URL.
    for example it should look something like - http://sdndevdpi001:50100/sap/xi/engine?type=entry

  • Getting error"invalid content type for SOAP: TEXT/PLAIN; HTTP 503 Not Ready

    Hi,
    I am getting the below error in Comminication channel
    'Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: invalid content type for SOAP: TEXT/PLAIN; HTTP 503 Not Ready: java.io.IOException: invalid content type for SOAP: TEXT/PLAIN; HTTP 503 Not Ready
    SOAP: call failed: java.io.IOException: invalid content type for SOAP: TEXT/PLAIN; HTTP 503 Not Ready

    Hello,
    Have you checked if you are passing the correct content type by validating the generated SOAP request against the format the receiver is expecting? You can try using an HTTP diagnostic tool to analyze the HTTP header e.g fiddler.
    Hope this helps,
    Mark
