NPS, wifi, multiple SSIDs - multiple policies?

We are setting up a new wireless network with multiple SSID's. We plan on having an internal network, a guest network, and a personal devices network. The questions is how do authenticate against multiple policies on the same NPS server? Our current NPS server authenticates against AD group AND AD user account for the internal network. If I want to authenticate the personal devices SSID against the NPS, can I set up a different policy for it only?
My understanding is that when a user/device queaeries the NPS, it goes down the policy until it finds a match and then allows access. Is this true? Thanks

Thanks,
Basically we want to use NPS to authenticate our wireless users and we also want to use NPS to regulate access into our switches/network devices. If I create a policy for example wireless that says If user is part of domain users, then grant access, how do I Create another policy that regulates who can log into my switches? Since the policy matches, it allows the user to log into the switch. Does this make any sense? Do I need a separate NPS/AAA server to authenticate my cisco switches/routers? THanks

• Can we have multiple policies for the same gateway?

Hi all,
Is there a way in which we can have multiple policies for the default gateway?
When I try adding a new gateway (which is not mentioned in the installer.properties file) and have policies, there is a 404 error.
When I add another service to the same gateway, I get an error - that the service could not be added to default policy.
Help me please...
My need is as follows
Want to have multiple policies, so that each of the web-service can be attached to same. The relation needs to be one-to-many. One policy can have multiple web-services.
Thanks in advance...

Its not possible for the same development object. Only 1 person can access an object at a time and if mutiple users modify an object new TASKs are created under the same TRANSPORT.
Only after releasing the tr you can create a new tr on the same object.

• Rights Management - Multiple policies on SharePoint 2010.

Hello folks,
Is that possible to have multiple LC policies at Sharepoint?
On the Sharepoint side I go to the Site Configuration and define there the policy that I want to use. What I'd like to know is if it's possible to define multiple policies, so the user can choose which policy he/she wants to apply.
Thanks!

No, this is currently not possible. You will have to update the names of Policy and PolicySet in the site settings if you want to apply a different policy.

• SCEP antivirus exclusions when multiple policies applied to collection. Merge or Replace?

Hi,
I'm seeking clarification specifically on exclusions that are applied via
multiple antivirus policies to a device collection. I am finding that the antivirus policy with the highest priority 'wins' and I only see exclusions for this policy. I do not see a 'merge' of the exclusions occurring which I thought was the case according
to the following documentation:
What’s New in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1
Specifically, the section below underlined:
Multiple antimalware policies that are deployed to the same client computer are merged on the client. When two settings are in conflict, the highest priority option is used.
Some settings are also merged, such as exclusion lists from separate antimalware policies. Client-side merge also honors the priority that you configured for each antimalware policy.
As an example, say I have a server with SQL and IIS running. I create PolicyA which contain exclusions for SQL, and PolicyB which contains exclusions for IIS. If I deploy both of these policies to my collection, I am expecting to see
both exclusion lists (i.e. merge) but I only see one exclusion list (the one with the higher priority).
I am aware that I can create a new policy by merging two or more other policies - I was hoping to not do this as I'll end up with many policies for exclusions. I thought I could, for example, target an SQL exception policy to SQL servers,
and if there is an SQL server that needs IIS/other exclusions, I can deploy another AV policy to that collection - saving myself from deploying the custom exceptions to servers that do not need it.
If there is a 'smarter' way of doing this, or if I have got anything mixed up please let me know.
Many thanks for your help.
zxx

What version of ConfigMgr are you running? Check both the site and the client.
If you are running at least SP1, the example you gave should work as you thought. Is it possible that the client is running pre-SP1?

• A Husband, Wife, Multiple Devices & iCloud

My wife and I have multiple Apple devices ranging from iPhones to iPads to iMac's. We have used my Apple ID and password for all of our app and music purchases. We eventually got a Mobile Me account so we could share contacts and a calendar (she uses the @me.com for her own email). I really want to move to iCloud, but am not sure how to set it up. Is it ok to still use my original usernam/password for app store purchases, but use the Mobile Me username/password for iCloud? Will get each others messages/texts doing this? We basically want to still have a common contacts list, a common calendar showing both of our schedules and a central place for pictures and video, but everything else should be individual. Any ideas?

Not necessarily. You can configure the Receive At setting in iMessage. Your iPhone will receive messages sent to your phone number and email address; her phone will receive messages sent to her phone number and email address. Set the Caller ID on each phone to your respective email addresses.
On the iPad, you really need to choose. It can receive both, but it can only send as one or the other. If you have the iPad setup to send as yourself, it behaves a little oddly if you try and send messages to your phone. I recommend making a choice on the iPad or setting up a third email there.
Btw, make sure the My Info in Mail, Contacts, Calendars is correct after the switch on each device.

• Issue with MacBook Pro (mid 2009) wifi multiple AP signal 'confusion'

I'll try to explain this as best I can, not being an expert in networking!
I recently upgraded my router from a Linksys WRT160N to an Airport Extreme, in the hope that it would do a better job of broadcasting a stronger wifi signal throughout my house. Whilst it is improved, it's still no good enough for streaming to my iPad 2 where I want in the house. Reading around on the web I discovered that I should be able to use the Linksys as an AP to extend the effective range of my wifi network, as long as it is hardwired into the base station via Ethernet (no WDS support on the Linksys model).
So, I managed to get this all up and running, disabling the dchp on the Linksys, fixed ip allocation etc and using the same SSID and passwords etc. All is well with the iPhone and iPad2 access - they just automatically switch to the strongest signal no problem when I move around the house. Cool.
The issue lies with the MBP - I have a favoured spot in the house where both the broadcast signal from the AEBS and Linksys are very strong, and the MBP gets all confused. opening up the lid from standby it searches for the wifi (bar moving up and down the signal indicator) and then just has an exclamation mark. I try to manually select the SSID but no dice. I have to switch the MBP adaptor off and on, rescan avail networks, and lo and behold two versions of my SSID are shown. Select one and then it connects. However, I have to go through this whole exercise every time I pull the MBP out of standby, which is very irritating.
I do have a workaround - if I name the SSID on the Linksys something different, the problem goes away. However, i effecktively now have 2 wireless networks & I then have to manually switch between the two SSID's to get the strongest signal depending where I am in the house. It's suffices for now but not ideal.
What I don't get is why is it only the MBP affected & the iPhone & iPad 2 are fine? Is this anything to do with the 2.4 ghz & 5 ghz being broadcast by the AEBS getting all mixed up with just the 2.4 ghz being broadcast from the Linksys??? Both 2.4 & 5 ghz are broadcasting the same SSID.
Any help appreciated.

OK - fixed this now. By setting the 5 Ghz channel on the AEBS to a different SSID and putting this to the top of my priority WIFI connections on the MacBook Pro then it ignores the conflict between the 2.4 Ghz networks being broadcast by the Linksys & AEBS. No more hanging connection when I resume the MBP

• Question connecting iphone 4s wifi using SSID and WEP where do I

Question, I am trying to connect my iphone 4s to a wireless router using SSID and WEP. I have entered the MAC Address on the phone into the Router's Security list.
I think that I also need to enter a code or passphrase on to the phone as well.
Does anyone know how this is done and where do I do it?
Thank you in advance.

Check the wireless security option of your Wi-Fi router:
If you are using WEP security and have multiple WEP keys on your Wi-Fi router, try configuring your Wi-Fi router to use only a single WEP key in key index 1.
Consider using WPA or WPA2 instead. WPA and WPA2 encryption protocols are newer, more effective security options for wireless networks than the older WEP protocol.

• Idea Tab a2109a wont connect to wifi without ssid broadcast

I have Idea Tab a2109a that connects to my wifi just fine, until i shut off the ssid broadcast from the router. At that point it stops connecting and says out of range. Laptops and a KindleFire have no problems maintaining a connection without the broadcast.
Running Android version 4.1.1
Kernel version 3.1.10
Model number IdeaTab A2109A
How do i maintain a connection on this tablet WITHOUT the ssid broadcast?

I tried your suggestions as much as I could at the corner coffee shop, but they didn't help.
I didn't follow them exactly because I misinterpreted turn WiFi on as turn it off. But when I sort of made up for that, I could not access it.
I realized my mistake when I came back home, went back to the coffee shop and tried again. Unfortunately, the signal was now one bar, and so I'm not sure that I've proved anything.
As I came back home, I searched for my network. I found it almost at my front door and with a strong signal. I walked around the outside and the access would come and go. Every time I could get access again it was always strong, even as neighbors' networks varied in signal strength. So, I couldn't double check if I would have gotten through with a weak signal.
So, I can access the web on my iPod touch on a closed network but not an open network.
I can access it at home with an ActionTec GT701-WG DSL modem. I can access it with a coffee shop provided access to ClearWire, a wireless Internet provider. This latter requires registration at hotspots.
I have software version 2.0.2 (5C1).

• 2nd Gen Touch & WiFi & Hidden SSID networks

I have tried to read all of the (many, many) existing threads on WiFi issues with the new iPod Touch -- frankly this ought to be a HUGE embarrassment to Apple.
Let me add to the list of problems -- the many strikes against this otherwise quite lovable device:
It doesn't play well with networks that use hidden SSID, so-called "closed" networks. All of the known existing problems with Touch 2Gen and ordinary WiFi networks (failure to join automatically, needing to have the device reset before joining, needing to turn off/on/off/on the wifi on the device before joining, etc. etc. etc.) -- are replicated and worsened when attempting to join and remain connected to a hidden-SSID network (yes, even one running on Apple's own wireless router!).
The worst is that, very often, one has to repeat going through the entire process of entering the network name and password -- as if the network had been 'forgotten.' (Although, it can be proved the iPod hasn't 'forgotten' the network, as the device will remember details such as a Static IP to associate with the network -- it just forgets to join it in the first place!)
Apple, Apple, Apple!
Are you determined to make me stop buying your products in the future?
Do you intend to fix the very buggy WiFi on this device?

Have you (or anyone who replied on this thread) actually opened a support case with Apple?
I just got a new 2nd Gen touch a couple of weeks ago and have been having the same problems described by you and the others here in my office (which uses a hidden SSID + 128bit WEP). Usually, the connection is lost when the unit comes out of sleep and it won't come back until I do a reset of the network settings and re-enter all the connection parameters.
I have 2 other co-workers with 2nd gen units and they have the exact same problems (worse actually, since they are both farther from the nearest access point).
There are 2 other folks here who have 1st gen units and neither one has ever had any problems here in the building. So this does appear to be a 2nd gen only issue.
I installed the 2.2 update which didn't help or hurt, but I was having the problems with the older 2.1.2 software.
It would be encouraging to at least hear from someone that Apple has acknowledged this is a real problem. If there is some sort of workaround, that would be even more encouraging.
Thanks,
Mark Edington

• Chromebook wifi security/ SSID changes without touching all of them?

Hello, Looking for some advice I have searched and only found a very limited bit of information on my issue.I have recently taken over and IT department and I have 900+ Dell Chromebooks. One of my fist goals is to get rid of my open wifi connection on my network for obvious reasons. I guess the previous IT Director thought it was easier to have the AP with no encryption. I don't want to have to touch all of the chrome books. I have created another ssid and I added it in the google admin console with the password and pushed the policy update out to the test chrome book that I am using. I have also ran a policy update on the chromebook manually. The chrome book can see the new SSID however its still wants the password. I know there has to be a way to change an SSID or password without touching all of the devices. Any and all help would...

• Is there any other way to achieve per user call forward restriction other than to create multiple voice policies?

Hello,
We mentioned the environment details below:
Environment
In our PBX environment, currently a user can forward calls to any local (within a region) internal extension. But for external PSTN call forwarding, a user needs to send a request and be approved by their manager. And the forwarding restriction
is applied such that user is only allowed to forward to that particular PSTN number - to prevent toll fraud.
Moving forward to Lync, using voice policy's call forwarding and simultaneous ring PSTN usages, I can set it to allow forward and simultaneous ring to custom PSTN usage and a custom route that will only send calls to these pre-approved
external numbers.
Outcome
But in such a scenario,
sSince all the custom external allowed numbers will have to be put into a single Route match table, User A will be able to successfully
set up call forward to User B's number. (if they come to know about it somehow, that is)
rü
Route matching list will be very long due to the number of users per hubsite that has call forwarding enabled.
Questions
Is there any other way to achieve per user call forward restriction other than to create multiple voice policies ? MSPL may be ?
2. Is there a limit in the number of entries you can have on the Route pattern matching regex expression ?
Please advise. MANY THANKS.

1) I think multiple policies may be your best bet, though it's not a fun one to manage, I agree. MSPL could do it, but it would be more complex to maintain in the end. Even gateways have limitations on routes.
2) I'm not aware of a limit, though I'm not saying there's isn't one. But if you hit it, you could move to a second usage/route combo.
I'd suggest building out some PowerShell usage/route creation/organization script for this so it's not something that would need to be maintained within the GUI.

• Multiple iOS devices one has no internet

I have an iPhone, (2) iPads, Macbook Pro all in the same room. All show connection to the Wi-Fi network with good signl. My iPad1 also shows connection to the wifi network but when i try to connect to the internet, I get an error message saying "This webpage not available....error 105 (net:ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): Unable to resolve the server's DNS address." I have tried turning it on and off, updating software to no avail. Any ideas?

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
