Rights Management - Multiple policies on SharePoint 2010.

Hello folks,
Is that possible to have multiple LC policies at Sharepoint?
On the Sharepoint side I go to the Site Configuration and define there the policy that I want to use. What I'd like to know is if it's possible to define multiple policies, so the user can choose which policy he/she wants to apply.
Thanks!

No, this is currently not possible. You will have to update the names of Policy and PolicySet in the site settings if you want to apply a different policy.

Yes, those links for server object model.
You can also do same with client object model:

  • Attendance Management Of Employees in SharePoint 2010

    Hi,
I have a text file which consists of almost 1129 items of Employee id, Name, In/Out, Date and time fields. How do i insert such a huge raw data into SharePoint List so that i can get total duration of hours worked by calculating the Check In
and Check Out time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You.
    Neo Alpha

One question is when do you want to calculate total duration of hours. I mean on which event like item change, item created or for a particulare date like start of the month or end of the month.
    Here are some ideas,
you can use Event receivers to calculate data based on a event.
You can use Timer Job to calculate data on a particular time
you can use SharePoint designer based custom workflow to calculate the data
    here are some references -

    Hi,
If don't change the default config, We are unble to download master page.
It's better to create your own (perhaps based on the default.master) and use that master page.
also, make sure there's no a permission issue on the website.

  • Help Required - Upload Multiple Documents functionality sometimes disappears in SharePoint 2010

    Hi All,
We have a web application created in SharePoint 2010 & there we were facing an issue of not able to Upload multiple documents. After doing search on google, we have found that
pre-requisites for this functionality to be working properly are as follows:
Client Integration needs to be enabled for the web application.
The STSUpld.UploadCtl IE add-in must be enabled. (located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12)
The 32 bit version of Internet Explorer. The 64 bit version does not support it and neither do other, non IE, browsers.
Office 2003 or newer on the client.
After meeting all the above requirements, We are now able to see the Upload Multiple Documents link but we are failing in below 2 scenarios:
On some machines it is working fine & on some it is not.
On some machines, this option is available for sometime & sometimes it disappears.
If any one of you have experienced the same problem, then please help us with your valuable suggestions & possible solution for it.

    Hi Manish,
We've just been experiencing your initial issue with Office 2007 clients not being able to use the multi-file upload functionality.  Sure enough....turning on presence information in Central Admin fixes the issue.  The strange thing is though that
when presence is turned off, Office 2003 and 2010 clients still work fine and it's only 2007 clients that fail.  Also this issue appeared to only exist for us inside applications that have been upgraded from MOSS2007 to SP2010.  Any new applications
of even new site collections within an upgraded application worked fine across all 3 Office versions.
Coincidently, we're also experiencing the more recent issue you've come across with files not uploading after clicking OK in the ActiveX.  Nothing happens.  Office 2010 clients work fine but 2003 and 2007 clients just don't upload the selected
files.  We've found a workaround which "fixes" the issue but brings it's own set of problems so it's not ideal.  Here's what we've done...
    1. Open IIS, and navigate to the web where you want to use multi-file upload
    2. Select Handler Mappings and Add Script Map
    3. Set Request Path - shtml.dll
    4. Set Executable - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\ISAPI\SHTML.dll
    5. Set the name to something meaningful - Multi File Upload
    6. Leave the Request Restrictions as default
This should fix the issue with files not uploading but unfortunately it also prevents SharePoint Designer from accessing the site.  For the application where we desperately need multi-file upload we can manage without SPD access so it's not the end
of the world but not ideal.  We've actually got an outstanding incident logged with Microsoft to resolve this issue but they've yet to find a solution for us.  We suggested to MS that we update authentication to Kerberos from NTLM and retry as we
seem to be getting 401 errors in the call stack so thought that could be related.  We've not yet configured Kerberos so I'm not sure whether this is a solution or not.
One other point worth mentioning is that SharePoint Designer 2010 (which is free) installs the latest version (14) of the Upload ActiveX and with this installed the uploads work as expected.  Also if you have Silverlight and SPD2010 installed then you
get a Silverlight control to do the upload which also works fine.  Again, not ideal as rolling out SPD 2010 to affected clients isn't really a suitable solution.
Sorry I can't be any more help.  Hopefully my findings might point you in the right direction.  If you do find a solution (other than the IIS handler mapping) then please re-post here,
    Good luck,
    Ben

  • Multiple SharePoint 2010 Survey Questions

    Hi All
Apologies if this has been answered and solved somewhere else, but I have probably spent 4 days looking through the web for answers.
We have a SharePoint survey with multiple page breaks and branching. Here are the issues we need solutions for, please let me know if I need to add them as separate questions:
We need to change the "Specify your own value:" field to say "Other:" instead. I've read and tried the article from iedaddy
http://iedaddy.com/2012/05/sharepoint-2010-change-survey-option-specify-your-own-value-to-other/ multiple times, but I'm having no luck in getting it to work.
We also need to limit the number of checkboxes that can be selected to 3 in a multiple answers can be selected section. I've read the article on doing this
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2770077/using-javascript-to-limit-survey-choices-to-three-unique-values but that doesn't work and looks like it might only be for 2007, even though some of the commenters said it worked on 2010.
Then we need to be able to export an individual's response to either a PDF or word format or be able to print it straight from the page. When right clicking and printing on the page it has the sides cut off. Someone suggested removing the "nowrap"
tag, but I'm unsure that will solve it and I'm not sure how to do that in SPD.
I also need to redirect the user to a "Thank you" page once they click finish. I've found a solution that works for a one pager, but since we use page breaks, this does not work.
I have access to SDP and limited knowledge of coding, but am willing to try.
Please accept my apologies if there are solutions for these, but I have not been able to locate any that worked for me on the web.
    Thank you!

Hi, for your first problem I faced it sometime back and though not the sturdiest solution, it did function for me since I did not have very many "Specify your own values" to change.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/9349cde4-1ab6-40b3-b572-a7ddea748d8f/sharepoint-2010-survey-add-additional-text-boxes-beside-choicescheckboxes?forum=sharepointcustomizationprevious#4fdcdd7f-0443-4a98-b9d8-8527fad05d59
Looking at your other requirements, I am reminded of my own when I started off with the OOTB SharePoint survey and realized that it is very cumbersome to customize it because it will need you to meddle with the MasterPage and you don't want to take a risk
in Prod environment. I would suggest you to look into other options like InfoPath. InfoPath gives you a much easier platform to design and customize surveys. Page breaks are very easy to design. You can also implement your own code for PDF and publish it as
an admin template. I can promise you that the surveys come out much prettier.

  • SSRS with SharePoint 2010 Managed Metadata or Lookup Values - Display

When creating an SSRS (SQL Server 2008 R2) report from SharePoint 2010 list/library data using BIDS:
A Lookup field or Managed Metadata field displays in the format "1;#value" rather then just the "value".
SharePoint columns that have Rich Text display HTML tags in the report field.
What is the best way around these issues?
Is a Regular Expression the best way to parse out the value? If so does anyone have an example? Is there a BIDS/Dataset adjustment in the query that displays a "more user friendly values" from either Lookup/Managed Metadata or HTML tags?

thanks for posting this fix, but it only works if there is a single Meta Data term used picked. But in the case of multiple Terms used (or Person columns) you will need something like this. Very ugly but it works. Strips out all the special characters and
    numbers.
    =REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"9", "", 1),"8", "", 1),"7", "", 1),"6", "", 1),"5", "", 1),"4", "", 1),"3", "", 1),"2", "", 1),"1", "", 1),"0", "", 1),";", "", 1),"#", " ", 1)
Basically I combined these statements into one nested statement
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"#", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,";", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"0", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"1", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"2", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"3", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"4", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"5", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"6", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"7", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"8", "", 1)
    =REPLACE(Fields!Reviewers.Value,"9", "", 1)

  • When to use Managed Metadata service in Sharepoint 2013 and 2010

    Hi Folks,
I have been working on sharepoint from quiet some time now. I have been using managed metadata service also.
What I have not been able to find out so far is when should I be using MMS.
What are the real advantages that I can draw out of it.
I have one application that has Managed Metadata installed and has various terms stores and terms.
The Managed metadata service  created is utilized in search,
What I do not know is what is why are we using it at all.
    What is benefit of it.
Managed metadata service could also be used in navigation is what i know.
But what confused me is when is the best scenario to use it for navigation.
Why can we not use the navigation provider in the managed metadata service.
There might be other uses also, but that is not clear to me.
Can any one tell me why and in which scenario to really use it.
I know how to configure the mms and how it works though the jargons around the managed metadata.
    Regards

Managed Metadata has some specific advantages that make it useful for certain situations.
A managed metadata column has the following advantages over a lookup or choice column:
A managed metadata term set can be shared across the entire SharePoint farm, so you can use it in different site collections.
You can set up "synonyms" so that multiple similar terms resolve to the same underlying piece of information
Terms can be hierarchical (terms can be nested under other terms), and the SharePoint interface allows hierarchical filtering. For example, if I have a term set for Location, and one of my terms is North America, with terms below that for United States,
Mexico, and Canada, I could choose to filter my list to show me all records with any North America location (inclusive of US, Mexico, and Canada), or to filter on a specific term (such as Mexico).
You can allow people to enter new terms, which will then appear in the term set.
You can specify information owners/stakeholders who maintain the term sets without them needing elevated access to sites; normally only site owners can mess with site columns and content types. Managed metadata lets you separate information management
(what terms/synonyms should be used) from site management (granting access, creating groups and lists, etc).
There are some disadvantages too. For example, with a lookup column, the lookup list can store additional columns of information. A managed metadata term set (on the other hand) only really stores terms (and descriptions/synonyms), but not related
info. You might be tempted to do something like create a term set for part numbers, representing every part that your company produces; the term set would handle the part numbers just fine, but wouldn't let you add extra columns of information for
description, weight, price, etc. In such a case, a lookup list is the better option.
Microsoft has some suggested guidelines for when to use managed metadata/term store:
    SharePoint 2013:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee519604(v=office.15).aspx
    SharePoint 2010:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee519604(v=office.14).aspx
    A brief summary...
Managed metadata is a good option when the potential metadata meets the following criteria:
Is something for which a user will select a valid value
Represents information that is likely to be used multiple times
Has valid values that can be organized hierarchically
Includes synonyms or abbreviations that should be aggregated
Can be applied in one language, but might be viewed in other languages
Managed metadata is not a good option if the potential metadata meets any of the following criteria:
Is represented by a built-in column (such as “last modified date”)
Has an infinite number of valid values
Has different valid values in each location that it is used (such as different values for the “version” attribute depending on which product team’s site the item appears in)*
Has only “yes” and “no” as valid values
*This type of metadata could still be captured in site collection-specific term stores

  • Emailing multiple links and attachments from SharePoint 2010

The issue I have is that if you want to send an email to someone internally with a link to a doc
from sharepoint you can find the doc in sharepoint 2010, tick the box then click 'email a link' BUT you can't tick two boxes so can't email two links at the same time. Related to this
also ( again unlike the old sharepoint 2003) there is no quick easy way to email multiple doc ( let alone two) as an attachment rather than a link when you want to send it externally.
I know you can open up different windows, drag across etc, but with the old system I could be in the middle of an email, click add attachment and with a couple more
click doc would be attached - as easy as adding something form my docs.
Is there any way we can do this with SharePoint 2010?

    Hi Unaier,
    Thanks for your post.
    1.
The “E-mail a link” ribbon button will be disabled if you select more than one files. You have to right click on the file, and find
the url of the file. Then email the link in your Outlook.
    2.
You cannot change the properties for many files at a time. Because the properties may be different with each other. If they have the same properties, you can
put them in a folder or a “Document Set”, so that you can edit the properties of the folder or “Document Set” directly.

  • Multiple filters in a drop-down list in SharePoint 2010 browser forms

I am using Infopath forms based on SharePoint 2010 lists. I am trying to filter a drop-down control based on inputs in two previous controls such that it looks up information in a list and returns options where A = A and B = B. This filter works when using
Preview in Infopath 2010, but does not work on the list itself on publishing; it only filters where A = A. The B = B filter is ignored.
    1) Is there a workaround I can use so that the browser form respects the filter in the same way the Infopath form does?
    or, if not:
    2) Is there a way to force SharePoint 2010 to open up "new item" or "edit item" in InfoPath instead of in a browser form?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your help!
    1) That was my concern. When I googled around, it seemed like it wasn't possible to do filters at all in DLL in browser forms, yet I had one that was working. So I was curious why one worked but two didn't.
    2) When I try to publish an InfoPath form from Designer that's based on a SharePoint list, the only option it gives me is to publish to that list, not to a document library.
2a) If I did figure out how to do it, would it still submit the information to the list? I don't want a form library scenario where each list item is its own form based on a single template, I want a list I can also manage with Access.

  • Uploading Multiple Documents To a List Item sharepoint 2010

    hi Guys ,
Is there a way we can enable (out of the box )Uploading Multiple Documents To a List Item sharepoint 2010 ?
    cheers

No, There is no OOB way to do the same you have to build a custom Page/Control OR customise OOB Form to attache multiple files and that will be through integration of ajax based control (multiple file uploader.)
the other way to do the same is provision a custom field. we have done this for our many  clients.
Hi, I also encountered the same problem, could u pls provide detailed information by a custom field?
