NullPointerException occurs when calling procedures

Hi, this is the procedure that i have typed...
create or replace procedure insert_file (
p_file_type varchar2,
p_file_name varchar2,
p_id out number
)as
geor MDSYS.SDO_GEORASTER;
begin
insert into nyp_images values( assignByID.nextval, p_file_type, sdo_geor.init('NYP_IMAGES_RDT') )
returning image_id into p_id;
select image into geor from nyp_images where image_id = p_id for update;
sdo_geor.importFrom(geor, NULL, p_file_type, 'file', p_file_name);
update nyp_images set image = geor Where image_id = p_id;
end insert_file;
When i tried to call the procedure using the codes below...
public void insertFile()
int ret_code;
Connection conn=null;
try {
//Load and register Oracle driver
DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
//Establish a connection
StrutsUploadForm form= new StrutsUploadForm();
String filename=form.getTheFile().toString();
//int p_id=0;
conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@dbdev.nyp.edu.sg:1521:orcl", "ias_spatial", "ias_spatial");
CallableStatement pstmt =
conn.prepareCall("{call insert_file(?,?,?)}");
//pstmt.setInt(1, p_id);
pstmt.registerOutParameter(2,Types.VARCHAR);
pstmt.setString(3, filename);
pstmt.executeUpdate();
pstmt.close();
conn.close();
} catch (SQLException e) {System.out.println("Error" + e);}
I have encountered NullPointerException Error...
Can anyone please advise me on that?
Thanks and regards,
Esther

I have no clue about java but as we have changed the order of the parameters in the PL/SQL procedure, I guess you have to change them also in the java code i.e. your
//pstmt.setInt(1, p_id);
pstmt.registerOutParameter(2,Types.VARCHAR);
pstmt.setString(3, filename);should probably be more like
pstmt.setString(1,filetype);
pstmt.setString(2, filename);
pstmt.registerOutParameter(3, Types.NUMBER);

  • Error occuring when calling a function via BSP

    In BSP, I call the function 'SD_DELIVERY_UPDATE_PICKING' to update a delivery. Unfortunately, when there is an error during processing this function (it is returned in the export table PROT), I found that this delivery is always locked! On the other hand, calling this function in SAP GUI, I haven't found this problem. How can I solve it. I try to use the command 'commit work.', but it doesn't work.

  • FRM-40735 / ORA-06508 when calling an attached package's procedure

    Hello all,
    I've a problem when calling a procedure in one of my attached libraries. the code is :
    when upper(trim(NOT_MSG_NAME)) = 'REN_MSG_REQ_REG_PERMENANT' then SERV.CLFRM_PBL_NRQP_F(:Parameter.NOTIFICATION_ID);
    and it gives me FRM-40735 stating that an ORA-06508 has occurred when calling the procedure.
    Important and funny thing is, when I add the path to the library , It works fine!
    When I attach it, removing the path, It goes wrong like I said..
    the location of the library is:D:\DevSuiteHome\cgenf61\ADMIN , the path is added in FORMS_PATH and all the other
    libraries attached to the form in the same path are working fine !
    I'm using forms builder 10.1.2.0.2, and the platform is windows and I've migrated from forms 9.0.4.0.19
    anybody having any ideas what the problem may be?

    Thank you Sarah
    In fact, somebody had modified the formsweb.cfg adding two working directory directives (It's a shared PC!). I recon none of them works though no configuration error is raised. I omitted both of them and the problem is gone .
    thank you again.

  • Error BT616 when calling function module SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE in background

    Hi All,
    We use function module SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE with a custom command we defined in SM69 to move files in unix (mv command).
    The function module call has worked fine for almost a year and recently we have been seeing an error (BT616) in our job lob (SM37) when the program is run in background. We have not been able to reproduce the error in foreground mode and it seems to be occuring only periodically in the background. (The appropriate SAP authorization objects where assigned to the batch job ID and the steps on the batch job.) We are in the process of setting up the trace flag and performing analysis on the trace log via ST11 to help identify the issue.
    After perform analysis on SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE, the error is occurring when calling function module SAPXPG_END_XPG for exception 2, system failure, yet function module SAPXPG_END_XPG does not exist. I assume this is a program at the operating system level and is just a signature of the parameters to be passed to the operating system program.
    Below is part of the SAP function module SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE that is failing.
    * Now we have to wait for the termination of the external
    * command if the caller wants us to.
        IF TERMINATIONWAIT = 'X'.
          CALL FUNCTION 'SAPXPG_END_XPG'
            DESTINATION DESTINATION
            IMPORTING   EXITSTAT = STATUS
                        EXITCODE = EXITCODE
            TABLES      LOG      = LOG
            EXCEPTIONS  COMMUNICATION_FAILURE = 1 MESSAGE MSG
                        SYSTEM_FAILURE        = 2 MESSAGE MSG.
    I performed a where used on function module SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE, and most of SAP programs call the function module with the parameter TERMINATIONWAIT = 'X', so I assume we should pass ‘X’ as well.
    Any ideas on what could be causing this issue?
    Mike Vondran

    I also remember I have this kind of issue, as I have some UNIX script at OS( UNIX) level . The problem was with the ID , as it don’t have proper authorization at OS level ( UNIX ) . Please check this ID authorization. This could be the one of reasons if you’re sure from SAP standpoint.
    Hope this’ll give you some guide line..
    Thanks
    Bye

    Hi Jaigi,
    According to your description, you want to change a report server database for Reporting Services. But it fails on the last step and returns a error. Right?
    In this scenario, it seems you are creating a report server database on another server via remote connection. Based on the error message, it has issues on executing the script for generating new database. Please check if you have permission to connect the
    server and create a new database. Also please check if the Reporting Services Windows services is working properly.
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

    Take a look at the method that is causing the NullPointerException:
    public void clearItem(int i)
    if (!m_dynamic && m_vector == null && i < m_vector.size())
    m_vector.removeElementAt(i);
    if (m_items != null && i >= m_items.length)
    return;
    m_items[i] = null;
    return;
    A NullPointerException will be thrown whenever clearParameters() is called when no parameters have yet been bound.
    The first IF statement should read:
    if (!m_dynamic && m_vector != null && i < m_vector.size())
    A simple workaround would be to make sure that your parameter list is never empty before calling clearParameters(). Is there a patch for this anywhere?

  • Timeout not working when calling stored procedure

    Hi,
    We have a Win32 application connected to ORACLE using ODBC API.
    A stored procedure (doing INSERT into 3 tables) is called via
    SQLPrepare and SQLExecute("{CALL SP(IN param...) ...}"), but
    Oracle never time out the statement.
    There are 2 types of modified timeouts:
    SQL_ATTR_QUERY_TIMEOUT = 20
    SQL_ATTR_CONNECTION_TIMEOUT = 60
    Even if I set LockTimeOut parameter in ORAODBC.ini file, it
    still doesn't work.
    I tried with SQLExecDirect("INSERT...") and it works fine.
    - Does time out works with oracle Stored Procedure ?
    - If not, how can I avoid application hangs when calling
    SQLExecute ?
    - I use "lock table MY_TABLE in exclusive mode" to simulate
    query timing out. Is the better way to do this ?
    Please, any help would be GREATLY appreciated :-)
    Thanks.
    -Dario Efine
    [email protected]
    Infos:
    - Application running on WinNT4 SP6a,
    - Oracle ODBC for Oracle 8.01.76.00,
    - Stored procedure has 10 IN parameters, it also uses 2 inner
    small functions.

    I get a "Login Failed for user _____" error if I attempt to use incorrect credentials.
    That message is very likely coming from the database. To be sure, turn debugging on in the ColdFusion Administrator. Also check out the logs. We have to narrow this down, otherwise we could end up running circles.
    If the attribute pairs [username="valid_name", password="valid_password"] and [username="", password=""] work, but [username="valid_name", password="invalid_password"] fails, then the cause of the problem is most probably your code, and how it connects to the database(s). Could you show us all (or at least more) of the code?
    My first suggestion to you was to omit the line variables.storedProcService.clear();. Invoking clear() only makes sense when it occurs after addProcResults() or addParam(). Did you omit the line? What was the effect, with and without credentials?
    Could you please describe your infrastructure a bit more. From what I understand, there are at least 2 servers, S1 and S2. Let's say, ColdFusion is installed on S1. I am assuming from what has gone before that SQL Server, which runs the stored procedure, is on the second server S2.
    Go to the 'Client Variables' page in the ColdFusion Administrator. Verify that ColdFusion is indeed configured to use a database for client storage. What is the name of the datasource used as client store? Now, proceed to the datasource page and check out the settings for the client datasource. To which machine/database server does this datasource point?
    Jot down the server settings and credentials of the other datasources configured in the Administrator. To which machine/database server do these datasources point?
