Number shift left and shift right

Is there an arithmetic operator to divide a number by a 2^n (same as shifting right by n bits)
Example:
8 >> 2 => 4 <= 8/power(2,2)
8 << 1 => 16 <= 8*power(2,1)

I think it is an attempt to squeeze performance. On most CPUs using bit shifting to multiply or divide by powers of two will be much faster than using other arithmetic operations.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work this way in Oracle. C programmers will also be shocked to learn that arithmetics on NUMBER is much slower than on BINARY_FLOAT, even if the NUMBER is actually an integer.
Squeezing performance out of Oracle has to be done by looking at the places Oracle lets you squeeze performance (set operations for instance), and not where you used to squeeze performance out of a C program.
Remember that with PL/SQL you are about four layers above the hardware. In C, you might as well be writing assembly.

Command-delete, command-left and command-right not working as expected

On a Mac (in my case OS X 10.6.8) when entering text into a text-field or text-box 'command-delete' in any other application deletes everything between the cursor and the beginning of the current line. I'm using Firefox 10.0.1 and this does not work.
Also, in certain rich text editors such as Gmail's compose mail text-box 'command-left' and 'command-right' which would usually jump to the respective beginning or end of the current line doesn't seem to work.

Swipe left and swipe right not 'sticky' enough in DPS

I've found that when using the Swipe left and Swipe right function in tandem with DPS, the swiping action swipes away from the page. Any way to make the action 'stickier' so that it actually does what the action is set up to do and not swipe away from the page?

Thanks for your replies Elaine and Neil. I'm referring to the 'swipeleft' and 'swiperight' actions within Edge. I'm attaching a screenshot (swipeleft and swiperight at bottom of list). The deal is...when I set up a button in Edge to swipe left or swipe right, my finger doesn't seem to 'catch' the button which cause the whole page in the app to swipe.
I was wondering if there is any js that can be written into Edge to help this.

Sound for F. left and F. Right both coming from left chan

i just installed my new X-fi Xtremegamer and when i test? my speakers through the creative console the test sounds for both front channels come out of the the left channel so when it says "front left, front right" both come out of the left spkr. i've tested the speakers on acouple different things and they work fine (logitech 5500's) i emailed support but i figured i might get?a quicker answer on here.thanks for any help you can give me?

All the sound comes from the left in stereo sound. I plugged the green stereo analog speakers into the other pin the blackone for 4. setting on my SBLi've24 allthe others play fron t left back left and back right but the front right is so soft like a whisper.
So the speakers work. Im running a Xp mediaedition system. It happened after an apparent sound conflict that made an electronic popping sound which got progressi'vely worse until i figured out how to reset the car d in the Bios level. I have done evrything but reformat the hard dri've All tests say the hardware is working but still no front right channel. Help please

In Final Cut Pro X 10.1.1 I'm trying to separate left and right stereo tracks to delete left and pan right to centre. I cannot find a way to do this.

I record in stereo with a 10KHz tone down the left channel to defeat AGC on my camera and mic feed into the right channel. When I edit, I want to mute/delete the left channel and pan the right into the centre, to leave me with mono audio across both left and right. I could do this easily in FCP 6 but can find no way to do it in FCP X. I'm using the same source files. When I choose Dual Mono mode in the Audio Inspector, it mixes left and right and pushes the combined signal into both channels, giving me a mix of 10KHZ tone and audio in both left and right. Stereo mode shows me the two channels correctly with one driven hard (the tone) and the other at good voice levels. I just want to kill the left channel and pan the right to centre.
I'm converting original TOD files using MPEG Streamclip before import and definitely keeping audio as stereo.
This is driving me nuts! It should be simple and is in FCP 6. Any help greatly appreciated.

Mb - If you're using FCPX 10.1.1 and Mavericks, make certain you've downloaded the most current Sony XDCAM FCPX plugin from sonycreativesortware.com unless you're using an older version of FCPX and then you'd need the previous XDCAM plugin.
You shouldn't see 8 mono tracks. There are import settings in /fCPX that you can check and I don't ask FCPX to analyze my media or seperate mono or combine stereo, etc. I like to have everything come in as it is, especially because I know what I've done with every channel, etc.
What I wrote to Ian is what I'd tell you - so please take a look at how you can make a "stereo" track that is actually two mono tracks, mono. Once you do that you can address each mono channel by itself since it needs different volume, compression, and EQ than other channels.
There are ethernet, USB, and firewire controllers that work in FCPX, but that's not the typical workflow because generally if you're getting into any amount of post audio sweetening beyond basic "staples" audio treatment, you would instead use "Roles" to export your audio to Logic or Pro Tools and do you work in those applications and then cut the final product back into your FCPX project. In Logic or Pro Tools is where you might use a controller.
In terms of automating levels, I'm not positive I know what you mean. Compressor is a nice internal Logic plugin that kind of automates levels in a way but its about compressing peaks at a threshold that you set and at a ratio of compression. So I may not understand what other automation is available unless you've exported you tracks to Logic or Pro Tools.

Is there any event of swip left and swipe right in ListView control ?

As in Android phone in call list we can call to some one on right swipe and can message to same person on left swipe. Is it exactly possible in ListView Control for Windows Phone or not?
Actually I need to get the Swipe left and right Event on these bases I have to download and delete the selected listView item.

That probably require you to do some extra coding on ManipulationDelta event.
We can get the initial touch point at from ManipulationStarted while we can get current point from ManipulationDelta, do some calculation we can know whether user swipe left or swipe right.

Have multiple popup adds using Foxfire at the bottom of the screen on the left and sometimes right.

I have popup adds showing up at the bottom of the screen to the left and sometimes to the right. I was hoping using Foxfire in private mode this would block these but it hasn't. This is a problem I can't seem to get rid of and my virus and add blocking software don't seem to get rid of the or block them??????

I think the swipe left and swip right ability interferes with the formatting of web page content to fit the screen - can this be fixed?

I have an android HTC EVO (Sprint) w/ firmware version 2.2.
Using the original Google browser I can expand web pages (such as forums) not optimized for mobiles and it re-formats to fit within the right/left screen size no matter the orientation of the device. I can read comfortably left to right and only need to scroll up/down.
Using Firefox 4 Mobile on the same web pages, when expanding the type does get bigger but they do not reformat left/right - they run off the screen, no matter the device orientation. Reading becomes tedious because I have to scroll right/left as well as up/down.
I believe this is related to the swipe left/swipe right design of FFox 4 Mobile.
Is there a fix for this?
If not, I'll have to go back to the original Google browser.

This feature is still experimental, and we plan to improve it in future versions.

Rounded corners, top left and top right

Hope you can help me, as I'm relatively new to PSE 9 , I'm trying to create nice rounded corners on the top right and top left of a new image in PSE 9
Please could you put me in the right direction to get me started.

You might try something like this:
1. Either duplicate the background layer or double click on the background
   so it's not locked.
2. Make your rulers visible (View>Rulers) and pull out four guides, one
   for each side of the image. (so the shape tools snap to the edges of your photo)
3. Select the Rounded Rectangle Tool (nested with the shape tools)
4. Set the radius of the corners and draw your shape on the photo.
5. Select the Rectangle Tool and set the option to Add to Shape Area
   and draw the rectangle on the bottom half of the photo.
6. Select the Shape Selection Tool and press the Combine button.
7. Move the shape layer below the photo layer in the layers panel, make the photo
    layer the active layer and go to Layer>Create Clipping Mask.

Why can't we have the whole photo as our background and y is it difficult to zoom in and out or move the pic to the left and the right?

iPad 3 is having difficulties with changing the backgound, sometimes it won't change it's won't zoom out or in,or move the pic to the left or right , also get the whole picture,

It's a glitch, no idea when or if Apple will fix it.
One work around is to go to the photos app and 'send' your photo to be wall paper. It gives you a bit more control, even if it doesn't give you all that you used to have.

Inspire 5.1 5200, Rear Left and Rear Right no sound

I have the Inspire 5.1 5200 sound system hooked up to SB Audigy. I have Windows sound control panel and creatives panel configured to 5.1 speakers. Still there is no sound out of both rears. What is going on? Thanks in advance.

Correct. I have seen a lot of iMacs with the same problem, but it's less common in MacBooks Pro. You can take the picture to an Apple Store, even I see it clearly.
As your computer is in warranty, there's a smaller probability that Apple refuses to repair your computer, but it might happen

Premiere Elements 13 (not Pro), recorded a video with mono mic input (left channel only), need to create 2-channel (left and right) audio track for finished product. Help?

The question says it all. I have been all over the tutorials as well as the menus inside Premiere 13 and cannot find how to edit the audio track beyond basic balance, volume, etc.
I can see the Audio 1 track, shows audio in left channel only, but it will not respond to attempts to select, cut/copy, paste, etc.
Basically I just want to turn one-channel audio into two-channel audio.

The Fill Left effect duplicates the left channel information of the audio clip and places it in the right channel, discarding the original clip’s right channel information. The Fill Right effect duplicates the right channel information and places it in the left channel, discarding the existing left channel information. For example, you might use this effect on footage shot with a monaural microphone plugged into only one channel of a camcorder, extending the voice of a speaker from one channel to both.
From what you wrote, your Premiere Pro video seems to be saying the same.
If that Premiere Elements Fill Left or Fill Right is no go, you might want to explore what you can do in this regard using the free audio editor Audacity.

And, then import the Audacity edited audio back into Premiere Elements project as source media.

Mono 1 channel vocal file to both left and right?

hello, some how i recorded a vocal track and the vocal only appears on one channel, the left channel. i know it will still be mono but how can i convert it to sound on both the left and the right channel.. when i look at the wave. there is only waves above the zero line..

You are so right VOCAL is MONO. And you did record it correctly.
however on the bar,that shows the level-meter, when it plays, and its only on one-side,thats went its set on stero. Meaning it wil play stuff recorded like A SYN/DRUMMACHINE, these are just eg. Audio Midi INSTRUMENT.
Most like-ly to use that MODE/SETTING.
Then it will play in both LEFT $ RIGHT. Speakers.
However it should be on MONO mode for recording of VOCALS,

How to add left and right margins in Topic?

I am using RH10, as part of TCS4. I am creating screen layouts by just modifying the existing ones.
I noticed that there is no margin/ space between the topic border and the topic content in it. When I searched for that in mobile.css, I did not find any relevant reference. When I did a Inspect Element on Firefox, it pointed to default.css which I don't find in my Project Setup pod.
How can I modify it? Here is the screenshot of the issue I am referring to:

Or right click the css, click Edit With > HTML Editor and apply a margin left and margin right to the Body tag. That will affect all the styles in one go.

Left and right channels of stereo sound coming only from left spea

The title says it all. I can't figure out what's wrong. I checked all the settings I can think of, but nothing seems out of place. It's not the right channel cutting out, but both channels coming from the left speaker (I used the speaker test feature to confirm this). This just happened out of nowhere when I booted up my pc. Any idea what's wrong?
