i have an existing numbers file that I would like to save as an excel file.  There is no save as option, how do I do this?

Will bring up a modal dialog:
Where you can select what you want to export.  The selections are:

  • Is there a way to save a form, once filled out, as a different file type in Reader?

I have Acrobat, my coworkers only have Reader. Company won't purchase Acrobat for the other employees.
I built a form for my coworkers to fill out. We need them to be able to send the filled out form to clients, but we don't want the clients to be able to edit the forms.
I understand people with only Reader can't flatten the document, or add a password, or save it as non editable. As I understand it, even with Acrobat I can't assign a password for Reader users to be able to edit or not edit a file (PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong on that one).
Is there any way to save the PDF form once it's been filled out (in Reader) as a different file type? Even an image? The file we send to clients doesn't have to be a PDF. Just something that most people can open.
I tried inserting the PDF into a word document (unreadably pixelated) and tried taking a snapshot of the entire page (resolution too low). I've tried downloading one of the free PDF writers and it apparently won't work with our network security (or something along those lines). I've tried using the pdf writer for Firefox on the form once it was filled out, and that won't work either because our network firewall seems to be blocking it and that's not something they are willing to take down.
    Any advice?

The signature WILL work! I've just looked into it more, thank you so much for pointing me in that direction.
I get it now, it locks the form fields in place after my coworker fills them in and signs it (as the very last step).
I wish I would have asked on here a full day ago. Would have saved a lot of headache and Googling.
    Thanks again.

  • Different file types

I really dislike about Numbers that if I work with any other file type than *.numbers I can´t directly save in that file.
I am working as evolution biologist and I mostly work with *.csv and *.tsv for different programs.
Numbers should really be able to save in the original file type.
Cause I dislike exporting each file as *.csv, open it in TextEdit and change each separation symbol from ";" to TABs for example.
Or do I miss a button in that program ?
    Cheers
    Niklas

    Hi Gaia,
Cause I dislike exporting each file as *.csv, open it in TextEdit and change each separation symbol from ";" to TABs for example.
If you need tab-delimited data (.tsv), instead of exporting as .csv and then converting you can just select the cells with the data, command-c to copy, and you will then have tab-delimited data on the system clipboard.  You can paste then that into TextEdit and save with a .tsv extension or paste directly into other apps that accept tab-separated data.
A simple AppleScript can also save a .tsv file at the touch of a keyboard shortcut.  I haven't done that because I find copy-paste easier.

  • Finding missing files that are a different file type?

I had several folders of jpegs that i converted to dng with lightroom.  I lost the dng files and now i only have the original jpegs.  when i introduce them back to lightroom it no longer recognizes them because of the different file type.  When i "find" and individul file it works and the missing dng is replaced with the jpeg.
The find nearby files option does not work and finding thousands of files individually is just not going to work.  I don't want to reimport because i will lose all the work i have done to these files.
Any ideas?  Maybe I should wait for 3.0?
    thanks,
    Braden

... the dng converter wont convert a jpeg to dng only camera raw files...
    Didn't know about that.
In this case, you can use Lightroom to convert to DNG:
    Start a fresh catalog.
    Import all your JPEGs.
Use the Convert to DNG command in Library module to convert all JPEGs at once. It will place the new DNGs in the same catalog as the source JPEGs.
Open the original catalog where the DNGs are missing — the old catalog should be fine finding the newly created DNGs now.
You can now trash the "new" catalog.

  • Opening different file types

Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.3.0 (Production)
    Hi
How can you open different file types saved in the database as BLOBs using Webutil? I am capturing the filename and extension as well.
The file types are: Excel Spreadsheets, MS Word, PDF, Mail Attachments (outlook)
I am aware of web.show_document but using that, don't the files need to be on a server?
I don't want to use javabeans, if that helps.
    thanks

    Hello,
    Webutil is enough ;-)

  • Different File Types to Import - To Conver or not to convert?

I have a project that I am dealing with which is requiring several different file types. Mainly .avi exported from VEGAS and footage ripped from a DVD.
I have heard that it is best to use MPEG Streamclip to convert everything to a DVPro format (I am outputting in SD for broadcast) but wouldn't that just cause more compression?
What is the best way to handle multiple file formats and the best output settings for broadcast when dealing with multiple formats? Thanks!

The Avi's might work OK as they are, but the DVD footage has to go through MPEG streamclip. You might have to do this with the Avi's too, but not always... depends on the codec that was used to capture them in Vegas.
Might try putting the AVI's in Compressor for the conversion if need be, as it might look a bit better in the end. But you've no choice with the files ripped from the DVD.

  • Encoding different file types to binary

Hi, im writing an application which takes different file types and then encodes them to be sent down a noisy channel, after random effects the data must be decoded back to binary. I have done the algorthims for encoding and decoding binary but i dont know how convert the file types to binary. (files such as jpgs and mp3 and txt)

...i know how to do the encoding on binary ...
...im not sure how to do this...Maybe you could start by explaining the problem in detail to yourself such that you understand it, then come back and tell us.
Are you concerned about a difference between a JPG file vs a text file? Text files, in the context you are describing, can be treated as binary just as easily. Use a FileInputStream to read it and you get bytes just like any other file.

  • Numbers won't save because it filled the disk

I keep some spreadsheets on a 40 MB encrypted disk image and even though there is only 1,351 KB of visible files on the disk, Numbers has filled the entire disk image with older versions. Now Numbers can't save changes to any of those documents, and neither Numbers nor the Finder can save new documents to the disk image. Is there any way to control this behavoir and instruct Numbers to use less space?
I've alread provided feedback to Apple about this issue, but I was hoping for a work around...
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Christopher,
Another helper has suggested, offline, that it's the Versions information that inflate your storage requirement. You may File > Duplicate to create a copy of the file with no version history. After confirming that the copy is a good one, delete the original and your memory consumption should decrease.

  • Can InCopy CS5 save to a CS4 file type

I'm managing an e-learning project that requires a group of writers to use InCopy.  Everyone including our client is using IC CS4 but one of my writers who has been unable to find anything other than the latest version.  If she uses the CS5 version is there a way to save as to a CS4 compatible file that I can send to the client?  I know, for example, that Flash CS4 can save to a CS3 file format.  Thanks.

I agree with Bob. The ICML format itself (InCopy native format) is essentially the same in CS5 as it was in CS4. So InCopy CS4 can open ICML files created in InCopy CS5. And InDesign CS4 can place InCopy CS5 ICML files, as far as I can tell. But it's *always* better to use the same version of ID and IC.
One thing to keep in mind is that in InCopy CS5, the default font on both platforms is Minion Pro, not Times. This means the definition of the [Basic Paragraph] style is different. So if you're using styles, I would stay away from using any of the basic styles (including Table/Cell), and make sure your custom styles aren't based on them either.

  • Save version as new file type in same Library

I know I have to be doing something wrong here, but I can't figure this out.
Is there any way to save a version of an edited image within the same library project, but as a different type?
For example, I am creating HDR images in a 3rd party application, and the end result is a TIFF.  I save these edited images in a separate folder on my desktop for my HDR images, but then I have to reimport them into Aperture.  As these images are TIFF files, and now that I have them back in Aperture where I do some final tuning, I have to the export them again to another folder as JPG's, and then reimport them into Aperture so that they stay in the same Library.
Once I have done my final color corrections, why can't I just do a "Save As" type function, within the same project and save the TIFF's as JPG, or PNG, or whatever?  Why is Aperture forcing me to export and reimport just to change the file type?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

I'm afraid you lost me about half way through that.
Images in Aperture do not have a file type.  This is one of the hurdles you must clear in order to take full advantage of Aperture's brilliance.  Your images, in practical terms, do not exist as image-format files (such as JPG, etc.) within Aperture.  Exporting is when they are converted to an image-format file.  In point of fact, "export" in Aperture, means "create from this image  an image-format file of the type I specify and save that file to my hard drive".
That's why there is no "Save as ... ".  Images in Aperture do not exist as single, sharable, files (and, perforce, do not have in image format).  The equivalent to "Save as ... " is, in Aperture, "Export".  And it has to be "Export" because once you give an image a format it can no longer be in the Library.  (Unless you import the new image-format file, in which case Aperture makes a new image with the imported file being the new image's Master; the new image in Aperture, once again, has no shareable single-file image format.)
When I do HRD or panaroma stitching, I Stack in Aperture the photos I will use, export them to the program I will use, use that program, then import the result (always one file) and make it the pick of the Stack.
    Hope that helps.

  • Possible to automatically save as a specific file type

Hey all! First, can I say that the search on here is really stupid? You have to search all the forums first before you can search just the forum you want to search? Who's the brainiac that thought that made any sense? I don't need to search the forums for every Adobe product when my question is about Dreamweaver. Seriously, stupid.
Anyway, here's my question! On my website, my files have to be .shtml. Is there a way to make it so that when I save files based on this template, it will automatically choose .shtml as the file type? Or do I just have to choose it manually every time?
It's not that a big a deal. I just keep forgetting and save new pages as html, then I have to change it.
Thanks and I hope everyone is doing well! I haven't been around much in a while. It was easier for me to pop in a see what's going on when I was using a newsreader. Oh well!
    Courtney

Dang!  I was wrong.  It's not the first time and it won't be the last.
Found this while looking for something else.
EDIT > Preferences > New Document > Default Extension.  Type .shtml or .shtm and hit OK.

  • HT2531 Spotlight won't open finder for certain file types

I had Evernote installed a year or so back and used it for a short while. Then I started using springpad and deleted Evernote from my Mac.
Ever since, old notes have shown in spotlight, but CMD+Click wouldn't reveal them in finder. I've re-installed Evernote to try and help the situtaion, but alas, the old notes are still indexed (not merged from wherever they're hiding as I'd hoped).
I've re-indexed the Mac, (exclude HDD from spotlight under system preferences and then re-indexed) but they've re-indexed again. So they must be actual files somewhere.
Example, I have an old note called 'expenses address'.
Finder won't find 'expenses address' but Spotlight does. CMD+ click opens evernote... but not the note.
The quickpreview from spotlight shows exenses address as p36.ennote (in the quick preview), but again, finder won't find that either (p36.ennote). I've used terminal to show all file types, but still no joy with either search.
I've dug around in the User>LIbrary>Application support, found the evernote folder, but it's not in there either.
I've also had a poke around HDD>Library>Application support, but evernote doesn't seem to save data there either.
I share my iTunes folder with another user on my Mac and my Apps are backed up from my Iphone and iPad, but the evernote app isn't one of them.
I'm at a loss with regards to where these msytery files could be.
    Any advice?

Not sure if this helps, but this is how a 're-indexed' file shows up in Spotlight, but finder won't locate it and CMD+click won't either.

  • CD albums in iTunes (12.1.2.27) won't load to iPad - gets file type not supported message

I just updated to iTunes 12.1.2.27 and synced to my iPad, but all of my CD albums that are in iTunes on a mac-mini (Yosemite 10.10.3)  won't sync now. A sample message is:
"song title" was not copied because the file type is not supported by the iPad "my iPad name"
There where a hundred songs on the list. My iPad is on IOS 8.3. I have never had this problem before. Songs purchased from iTunes store are there, but not my own CDs.
Has anyone seen this problem before? What is the solution?
    Rolf

Problem solved! Apparently way back in November of last year I made a copy of the iTunes library on my time machine backup disk manually. I just created the folder on the drive. This was because I was updating the system and did not trust anything to work properly afterwards. The iTunes folder was sitting on that drive and  iTunes (for reasons I don't understand) started using parts of it. I noticed this when I tried to play one of the songs from my CD albums. The backup disk would mount and spin up and play the song from there.
By the way the iTunes preferences were set to look at the iTunes library on my mac-mini system disk not the backup drive. Why it went to that backup drive I will never know. Anyway I renamed the iTunes folder to something else on the backup drive. Now when I play a song from an album it goes to the proper iTunes library (the one on my mac-mini disk). Subsequent to this fix a sync to the iPad copied my albums  properly with no error.

  • Have file save dialog configure csv file type

I am saving a program recipe file in csv format.
I can save and retrieve the file without problems.
What I would like to do is have the save file dialog box show a file type of *.csv instead of the default all file types *.* and then depend on the user to enter file.csv
Does anyone know a way to do this programitically?

You can do this on the desktop using the Acrobat SDK as a custom plugin.
You can do this on a server with Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator.
