Can we lock down user admin functionality to allow password changes only?

Hi,
Is it possible to lock down the user admin functionality so a specific role can only change passwords?
We have a large user base of >10K infrequent users that are forced to change their passwords every 30 days. We suspect a lot will require password changes and we are keen to not have the tech team spending most of their time dealing with such requests. We would like to pass this task onto data management but not allow them the system administrator functionality.
We know we can create a responsibility with a limited menu available so the operator can see only the security/user/define menu. But this will still allow the person to add responsibilities to existing user accounts and create new user accounts, both of which are deemed unacceptable security risks. Is it possible to lock down the form as well as the menu? Allowing operators to only change the password of existing users? Or can we use the custom.pll to error when a user tries to do anything except edit the password field when in this role?

You should be able to do that. You would create a new privilege level (ie 7), assign all commands to that level except (this is my guess) the command vpn-sessiondb, you would put that at a lower privilege level (ie 6). Here's a write-up that may help getting you in the right direction.

Quick answer needed - user/admin locked out.

A friend on a trip is all of a sudden asked to log in to her G4 laptop running Tiger. As far as she is aware no changes to settings have been made.
She does not have the install disks with her.
How can she get this sorted?
She is in a place where mac's aren't standard and there is no apple center near by.

Service authentication failed / password change

we recently changed our network admin password. today I started nmaa and nmma services for the first time after this change. both services did not start anymore because of old login credentials. now I am clueless where to change that in ConsoleOne :) Anyone can give me a tip? For now I edited the startup file and changed password by hand.

I'm mostly fishing here. I see a passphrase in the MessengerService
object, and I was wondering if that was related.
Doing a bit of research, I looked at the online GW Messenger 2
documentation, under Managering the Messaging Agent. There is a
section (2.4) there about changing the agent user password. Have a
quick look at that. Looks like the only place the password is stored
is in the startup files.

User authentication failed when user is locked by system admin

Hello!
We have EP 6.0 (SP 18) and ABAP Backed 6.40 (SP21). UME is connected to the backend system for user managment.
When we try to log on to EP with a user that is locked by the system admin in the backend, the message shown is "User authentication failed".
Should it be possible to show a message as "User locked by system admin", for the user to know the reason?

I have a EP7 SP18 Portal .
The portal UME is Readonly Microsoft LDAP + UME Database.
I have a user named testuser which exists in Both the UME's.
the testuser of LDAP is locked through Portal User admin.
Now whenever the testuser tries to logon to portal,he gets User Authentication Failed message.
The failed logon attempt info is not reflcted in User Account details.when viewd through portal user admin.
if Administrator resets the Password of testuser in portal,then user is able to logon to the portal using this password.
Next day,again same thing happens.
what can be the reason behind this ?

I see in the ISE that (Authentication failed: 24415 User authentication against Active Directory failed since user's account is locked out). Users are using Windows 7 OS.

The error message means that Active Directory server Reject the authentication attempt
as for some reasons the user account got locked.I guess, You should ask your AD Team to check in the AD
Event Logs why did the user account got locked.
Under Even Viewers, You can find it out

Essbase Error 1051440 - Authentication fails for user admin

We are facing a very unique problem...
The application is up & running.. even I can login into the application, can perform member addition, editing & mamage database from planning.... but I get this error while retreiving from excel addin or running scripts.
What I analysed is that this problem is Actually coming when a particular set of members are called anywhere either in scripts or during retreival thru Addin.
Recently we had added one dimension in one of the database of our application. After that that this problem started.
There were fewer Xref functions used to pull data from other cubes.... The problem is cominng with only those set of members where this Xref function has been used.
Even I had changed the formulas & incorporated member of new dimension in the formulas to point to target members....
Can you guys ever had faced such kind of issue....

are you sure that user "admin" has all necessary rights to run your scripts? I have to ask because we sometimes had problems with our admin user... There is an "native essbase server admin" and the admin user in shared services.
We dont had any idea how this could happen but sometimes our admin user changed to the mentioned "native essbase server admin" - you can see it if you are connected as "admin (internal)".
If you are logged in as "admin (internal)" you have to "externalize" this user.

Help solve OIM puzzle - OIM Authenticator == "weblogic user soft locked"

Hi,
I just completed an installation of IDAM 11g including OIM. I've done several, with different configurations, but this one is on Centos 64-bit.
Everything seems to be working, but whenever I start the soa_server1 and oim_server1 managed server, I start seeing messages in the Adminserver stdout from <OIMAuthenticator>, saying that the weblogic user is "soft locked". If I go into OIM Admin, the 'WEBLOGIC' user is locked, and if I unlock that user in OIM Admin, the msgs from Adminserver change to "failed authentication" a few times, then I get the "soft locked" messages again.
I've been trying to track this problem down for almost a week now. I'm "close" to understanding what might be going on, but I'm kind of at an impasse right now, so I figured I'd post what I've found thus far, and see if anyone here has any ideas.
1) With this installation, I first installed a basic WebLogic domain, with a password (e.g., "password1").
2) When I got to the IDAM installation, because there was a password policy, I had to use a password with upper-case in it (e.g., "Password1"), for all responses, except when it asked for the info for accessing the WebLogic Adminserver, in which case I responded with the original weblogic password (e.g., "password1").
3) I have both the DefaultAuthenticator and the OIMAuthenticator in the security realm, with the DefaultAuthenticator at the top, above the OIMAuthenticator. Both authenticators are set to "SUFFICIENT".
4) I think that SOMETHING is intermittently (~ every minute) trying to authenticate using the "weblogic" user, but whatever that is, it has the "wrong" password.
5) My understanding is that normally, when OIM is installed, the 'WEBLOGIC' user is added to OIM, with an "empty" password, and I confirmed via sqlplus, that the USR_PASSWORD in the OIM USR table is indeed empty.
6) I think that with the order that the authenticators are in, DefaultAuthenticator would attempt to authenticate, and then OIMAuthenticator would attempt to authenticate. Since both are set to SUFFICIENT, if an authentication against DefaultAuthenticator succeeds, the authentication would be considered "successful".
Based on all of the above, it seems like whatever the process that is trying to do those authentications is, it has a password that is not "password1" (since if it was using "password1", then the DefaultAuthenticator" would successfully authenticate, and it shouldn't try the OIMAuthenticator), and then OIMAuthenticator is trying to authenticate. Since the USR_PASSWORD is empty, OIMAuthenticator would always fail authentication, and thus the "failed authentication" errors followed by the "soft locked" msgs.
7) I've tried to track down "what" process is doing the authentications, and I believe that it is EMAGENT. The reason that I say this is that if I stop EMAGENT using opmnctl, the "soft locked" messages stop.
8) I've tried to set the "monitoring credentials" for the "weblogic" user in EM, to match the "password1", but even after I do that, I still see the "soft locked" msgs, and if I unlock the 'WEBLOGIC' use in OIM, then I get several "failed authentication" followed by the "soft locked" msgs again.
9) I did an experiment (I'm running this under VMware, so I was able to do a snapshot and then revert after the experiment), where I set the password for the 'WEBLOGIC' user in OIM Admin to the "Password1", and after I did that, the "soft locked" errors stopped, so I believe that whatever process is attempting to authenticate is using the "Password1" password, rather than the "password1" password.
I also have another earlier installation, that I installed using the "normal" way, i.e., letting the config.sh create a new WL domain, and that works and I don't get these "soft locked" msgs at all. That configuration also has USR_PASSWORD empty in the OIM database USR table.
So, the question that I have is how do I get the EMAGENT to use the "password1" password instead of the "Password1" password?
As I mentioned above, I tried changing that in the EM monitoring credentials, but that didn't seem to fix the problem (still got "soft locked" msgs).
Maybe I've been staring at this problem too long, and am missing something, so I hope that someone can post some suggestions.

I'm afraid that I'm not doing a very good job explaining what worries me.
Specifically, I don't understand WHY the authentication of the 'weblogic' user against the DefaultAuthenticator is failing. I know that the reason that OIM is locking the 'WEBLOGIC' user is that the DefaultAuthenticator authentication is failing, causing the attempt to authenticate against the OIMAuthenticator (which also fails because USR_PASSWORD is empty), but why is that authentication against DefaultAuthenticator failing?
More particularly, I'd really like to find out how to change the password that whatever is trying to do that authentication is using.
As I said, I tried changing the monitoring credentials in EM already. I think that that actually changed SOMETHING, but not everything. Before that I was seeing 3 soft locked msgs every minute. After I changed the monitoring credentials to a completely different user that I created in the WL Console (emagent_monitor, member of the Monitors group in WL Console), instead of getting 3 msgs per minute, I'm now getting 1 msg per minute.
So, it appears that it's something else, other than the monitoring credentials, i.e., something else (I don't know what) is trying to authenticate with the 'weblogic' user, but with bad password.

Initially I was not able to log into the Visual Admin. When I logged into the Visual Admin, I got authenication failed. I reset the password of Administrator in the User Administration on the portal. Now I can log into the Visual Admin using the password I just changed on the portal .
I am not able to logon to the portal using "Administrator". I get this message: "Authentication failed. User is already authenticated as a different user."
The URL is somewhat different as this is a production portal: "http://host.com/sld" (/irj/portal)
Does any one have a clue.

I have an critical ssue to be solved on Production environemt :(,
we have oim installed on cluster in production(OIM11g installed on server ), the configuration is as mentioned below
cluster 1--oim1,soa1--server1--holds admin server
cluster 2--oim2,soa2--server2--managed server and no admin server
This instance was working fine, we had to restart the server machine for some reason and i am not able to start OIM server :( after that.

I think you have to raise SR with oracle, because it is prod environment.

Authentication Failed : BPEL Console and BPEL Admin

Hi ,
I am trying to log in to BPEL Console repeatedly. I am using the user oc4jadmin. I have logged in successfully previously using oc4jadmin.
I read somewhere that a workaround is
"Workaround is you take login_error.jsp off from URL http://<host>:<port>/BPELConsole/login_error.jsp, So your URL would look like http://<host>:<port>/BPELConsole/. This will automatically log you in. Since the problem was with redirection and not with your credentials"
This is also not working for me.
Could it be possible that I have locked this account ? Is so, how can I unlock it .
Any suggestions on why I get repeatedly Authentication Failed ?

User Authentication Failed via http BUT not with Visual Administrator !!?

Hi All,
Since a couple of days, I have a problem concerning authentication to the java apllication on a SAP Netweaver 2004s.
Using the user Administrator, I CAN logon the Visual Administrator tool, with the same user I tried to logon via http://host:port/nwa without success.
At the beginning, I was thinking about a problem of password then I enabled the emergency user SAP*, the problem was the same. Ok with Visual Administrator but not via http.

Do you have an idea for me? Why a user can connect via Visual Administrator and not via the http interface?

I found the solution this last week-end.
This behavior let's thinking to a problem of authentication.
But the problem was in SQL, an index was missing in table J2EE_CONFIG, called J2EE_CONFIG_I3

Visual admin authentication failed

Hi Gurus,
I just installed XI server and I have a problem with logging in into the visual admin.Whenever I give the password its says the user authentication failed.I checked it several times, the password and user name are correct.I am also facing a problem in the rep/start/index.jsp .when I try to open this it gives me a ' 500   Internal Server Error ' .Please help me out.
