NW04 - Upgrade J2EE to SP14

Hi,
I have a strange problem when I try upgrade my Linux TestDrive from SP12 to SP14.
Hostname: NW
The installation is working on SP12. I’m able to deploy both from NWDS and SDM.
The sapinst is executed with the remotehost parameter: sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=nw4host
The upgrade goes smooth until ‘Deploy via SDM/J”EE’ where I get a ‘Error: Unable to compare host[nw4host] and host[tetasoft-002] Throwable: java.net.UnknownHostException Throwable message: tetasoft-002: tetasoft-002’
The strange thing is that my laptop is called tetasoft-002.
Any idea how to solve this? Is there a parameter I should use?

Gregor,
I have exactly the same symptom in SP9 --> SP13 on clustered Solaris WebAS/EP installation. I am curious as to why you think it's to do with DISPLAY variable - though I wouldnt be at all surprised by some of the imaginings that sapinst has.
In my case, I get the RemoteLoginContext problem, but no 'comapre host' message. Simply that the J2EE administrator credential check failed. At this time, thye J2EE is up and running, all services and apps are in the started/running state; the SDM is stopped (but gets started by the deploy task of sapinst). There is no corruption of the secure store password so far as I can gather.
My installation sounds somewhat similar to Henrik's:
Physical Host : spvcs53prod
Virtual SCS IP (on same host): spscs50prod
Virtuaal CI IP (on same host):  spci50prod
..\sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=spci50prod SAPINST_START_GUI=false
The CI is on a virtual host too, for system admin and monitoring reasons, though it is not in a switchable cluster group. I have had some problems for example with the delivered startsap and stopsap scripts. These cannot locate the required hostnames accurately on network adapters as the output of the ping command varies depending on the physical/virtual setup. (start.sopsap parse the ping result to verify hostnames). Maybe sapinst is doing something similar in these installation situations?
Any help appreciated, as we are now stuck delivering a production cluster !
Thanks.

  • After upgrading j2ee of bw system, j2ee locks my account in abap

    Dear all,
I upgraded a bw system from NW 7.01 to NW 7.3. I made:
    1. dual stack split
    2. upgrade ABAP stack
    3. upgrade J2EE
After the upgrade of j2ee was finished my user is always locked. The j2ee tries every minute to logon to abap with my user. In file dev_jrfc.trc I see the message:
RfcGetException rc (7) message: name or password not correct (please repeat login) (I translated message because is in german)
There are no other log entries in any file under /usr/sap/<SID>/J<Nr>/j2ee/cluster/server0/log and I didn't change my password.
I checked the destinations under NWA->configuration->Infrastructure->Destinations
    I checked JCO
    My questions:
    1. How can I do further analysis?
    2. Where could my account be maintained in the j2ee?

  • Upgrade J2ee Engine 1.4.2_06 to 1.4.2_11

    Hi,
In our production XI3.0 SP16 server j2ee engine sutting down if we run many jobs at a time. Currently we are using j2ee 1.4.2_06 , this problem happend due to j2ee engine unstability.
SAP note says that need to upgrade j2ee from 1.4.2_06 to 1.4.2_11 . Not sure how to do this at OS level and after that where to change parameters for new java 1.4.2_11 settings.
Before that what files/folders need to take backup.Any idea how to upgrade.
    -cheers !

    Hi Lisa,
It's known problem in XI. But Apart from SP06, some more reasons are there....
First, Let me know the RAM size... As utilization increases, due to lack of memory, first J2EE engine stops... Because, J2EE engine needs lots of resources.
    Normally, For 200 Documents/Hr needs 4GB to 6GB RAM.
Next, There are some standard memory parameter setting which should be set by Basis during installation. That can be changed as per requirement like paging area etc. (I am not sure, which one is required). But this too worked for us.

  • NW04s Upgrade

    Hi.
I might be posing an irrelevant question here but I just wanted to be sure. Do we require any ALPHA conversion activity in case of an Upgrade from NW04(3.5) to NW04s? Or is it history from 3.1 onward?

  • Error in SDM during J2EE Engine SP14 patch application

    Hi,
During an update of the J2EE engine to SP14, the update of stops with an error during deployment via SDM.
Below is the error from the log.
Configuration of DB target system "CONFIG_DB" is incomplete.
I suspect that there is an error in the SDM CONFIG_DB configuration, where the database's SID is not entered. However, I could not find a way to add in the entry.
    Please advice.
    Azli

    Try this
In /SDM/program/config/sdmrepository.sdc search for an entry for the "CONFIG_DB" target. Replace the value of the <FixedSizeParamContainer> parameter with the appropriate one. Save the changes
refer Note 867976 before doing this.

  • J2EE SLD Configuration (NW04s ABAP+J2EE)

    Hi,
    I have just installed NW04s BI System with ABAP + J2EE (SP13).
We have a SLD running on SolMan 4.0 (SP13) which is a different host.
I have configured the ABAP part of the SLD for NW04s BI System and it is working fine.
I have no idea how to configure the J2EE side of it.
The only thing I have defined is a Business and Technical system for J2EE in our SolMan SLD for our BI.
I do not know how to proceed for J2EE of our BI system. I have found few links but kind of confused.
Can anyone please give me exact steps I need to configure. I do not need detail but just a sequence of steps.
    I will appreciate your help.
    Regards.
    SSingh

Thank you for the reply. It helped.
My goal is to creat the BI system as a Application System in SXMB_ADM. I have done the ABAP part including the destinations SAPSLDAPI, LCRSAPRFC and SLD configuration. They are working fine as I said in my message.
Now from the J2EE side, the only thing which is required is what you said.
Is that enough to make make the J2EE also a Application System or more needs to be done once J2EE is SLD ready. I know that J2EE should also be craeted as a Business and Technical in SLD. That part is done.
    Please respond.
    Regards.

  • Nw04s upgrade queries regarding compatibility

    Hi,
We are currently on EP6.0 SP10 and also are using standalone ITS
    620. We are in the process of upgrading to NW04s ie EP 7.0 .Could
    someone pls clarify  the following
    1) Will (our existing) <b>ITS 620</b> be compatible with EP7 ?
    2) Will our <b>R/3 version ie 4.7</b> and <b>OS WIN 2003</b> be compatible?
    3) Are there any specific hardware requirements for EP7.0?
Help on this would be very much appreciated
    Regards
    Vineeth

    Hi,
unfortunatly, the guy that configured the its/erp at that time does not work for us anymore, I don't have much info for that.
    Min hardware EP7 :
    Suitable backup system
    Minimum disk space:
    Database Software:
    1 GB (x86, AMD64)
    2 GB (IA64)
SAP system files (not including paging file):
    5 GB (x86, AMD64)
    8 GB (IA64)
SAP database files (not including paging file):
    2 GB
4.3 GB of temporary disk space for every required installation DVD that
you have to copy to a local hard disk
    To check disk space:
    1. Choose Start® Programs® Administrative Tools ® Computer Management® Disk
    Management.
    2. Select the local drive.
    3. Choose Properties.
    Minimum RAM:
    1.5 GB
To check RAM, in the Windows Explorer choose Help® About Windows.
    Caution
During the installation with SAPinst, make sure not to enter a value larger
than the maximum Java heap size of your platform. For more information,
see the corresponding documentation of your Java Development Kit - JDK.
    Paging File Size:
1 times RAM plus 8 GB
For 64-bit systems, also see SAP Note 153641. If you want to install only a small
system, contact your hardware partner for appropriate swap space values.
    To check paging file size:
    1. Right-click My Computer and choose Properties.
    2. Choose Advanced® Performance Settings.
    3. If required, in section Virtual Memory, choose Change.
From my experience, you can add easily 10 gb to your EP6 portal for the upgrade to EP7.
At least 2.5 gb ram, and dual processor. I once used a dual 2.4 xeon, it was ok.
JDK 1.4.2_11 for usa and jdk 1.4.2_13 for canada because of the new timezone change.

  • NW04 WebAs J2EE Full Inst. Issue: CJS-20019  Error when installing..

I've run into this problem on step 26 of installation:
    <i>ERROR 2006-11-25 22:58:29
CJS-20019  Error when installing temporary license. DIAGNOSIS: External systems are not available. SOLUTION: Check connection to DB and messaging service.

Once in a lifetime, the solution is the right one (it was for me at least): <b>I went to MMC and started my brand new J2E instance, then hit "Retry", and installation happily came to the end</b>.

  • Upgrade SP09 to SP14 SLD and CMS configuration lost

    Hi all,
I have upgraded the Java Infrastructure successfully, but I had to reconfigure the SLD (object server etc.) as well as the CMS track information in order to get the Infrastructure working again. Luckyly I only had a test track with test components set up otherwise I assume I would have lost my work.
Is this supposed to happen? I can't imagine that this is the way an upgrade for a development infrastructure should work. Somehow the configuration data should be stored and reimported after the upgrade.
Maybe I missed something during the upgrade regarding the preserving of the configuration data.
Has anyone made the same/a better experience during the JDI upgrade?
    Any input is greatly appreciated.
    BR Helga

    Hi Helga,
I did several updates of NWDI yet and never had such a problem.
    My updates
    Java & ABAP Stack: SP07 --> SP09
    Java Stack: SP09 --> SP11
    Java Stack: SP09 --> SP12

  • NW04s SP11 J2EE is in "starting apps" stage

I am not able to login into Visual Administrator i.e., it stops responding at 99%.  Also http://<hostname>:50100 doesn't respond.
When I tried to login through telnet administrator and tried to see the applications that are started or not, I could see only one STARTING i.e, cattping.  So I tried to start all applications, since it hung, I closed and opened and checked to see the following status, can you tell what is wrong with this system.  This is solution manager system.

  • What is the quickest to upgrade disaster recovery system to NW04s in MSCS?

    Hi,
I have an issue which I need assistance from SAP/Windows 2003 experts.
Hope you can share your opinion on  an SAP upgrade issue we're grappling with.
<u><b>Objective :</b></u> Upgrade our SAP Bank Analyzer disaster recovery environment from NW04 to NW04s SR2, to be same as  production.  Both production and disaster recovery (DR) run under two node WIN2003 Enterprise MSCS.  The SAP CI usually runs on node A and Oracle 10g runs on node B.
The Oracle software, parameters,  database files and  the SAP folder \usr\sap are  already matching. These files and folders are  on EMC mirrored disks, so this will  be automatically synchronized from production status.
Therefore  I believe it is only the SAP software components on the local hard disks - binaries, DLLs, registry, DCOM, environment variable etc, that need to be upgraded on the two DR machines.
For your information,  the current SAP 6.40 instance,  Oracle 10g instance, MSCS failover capability are all working in the DR environment as we just did an exercise a month ago to prove this.
    <u><b> Disaster Recovery Environment :</b></u>
On shared drives that are synchronized between prod and DR  : SAP folder \usr\sap including the kernel binaries, Oracle parameter files, database datafiles, redologs, sapbackup etc.
<u><b>Issue :</b></u> What is the <b>quickest</b>  and <b>reliable</b> method to achieve the objective? Other than the SAP kernel binaries and profiles, I'm not certain what other related components are updated/replaced that are stored locally on each of the clustered machine.
There are three different approaches we can think of :
    1) Repeat the whole NW04s upgrade process in the DR environment. This takes several days. The exposure of not having a disaster recovery environment for several days is a minus.
                 <u><u><b>  or</b></u></u>
    2) Un-install the SAP CI and MSCS definitions. Synchronise the DR shared disks from production to have the upgraded production NW04s database contents and SAP folder \usr\sap.
Use SAPINST to re-install either traditional CI or ASCS option 'System Copy". And then re-create the MSCS definitions for SAP CI using SAPINST again.
The disadvantage is I can't trial this in any other of our environments. Also, we want to run with the traditional CI instead of ASCS until early next year for other reasons. So we would have to reverse the ASCS back to traditional CI with this method, by reversing the steps in OSS NOTE 101190 "Splitting CI after upgrade to 700".
                    <u><u><b>or</b></u></u>
    3) Somehow identify all the SAP components that are stored locally on each machine (eg. environment variables, registry settings, DCOM definitions, DLL in various folders). Then just copy  them from Production to DR machines or recreate them. I'm <u><b>not</b></u> confident of identifying the local SAP components. And I have not been able to find any good OSS NOTEs or forum threads on this topic. The most helpful OSS NOTE I can find is 112266  point 13 and 19.
    Thanks for any input.

  • Upgrade NWDS SP12 to SP14 - partially successful

I have downloaded the SAR file for upgrade NWDS to SP14, used SAPCAR to extract, and executed IDE70setup.exe. All seems well, except for the fact that I can no longer open the data modeler view in my Web Dynpro perspective.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts?

  • Upgrading EP6 SP10(j2ee,portal,KMC)  to SP11

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade my EP6 SP10(with KMC) to SP11.
I downloaded all the patch files for J2EE, Portal &
KMC. I unzipped all the sar files in to a common folder
(sp_directory) using sapcar tool, exactly the way it is
listed in the documentation. As a result, there are
two main folders created in the root folder, one for
j2ee and the other for Portal & KMC. The document says,
I need to patch all the 3 components using the same SAPInst file. But, whenever I run the SAPInst exe file,
it is taking me through the same steps that is upgrading J2EE alone. After running SAPInst twice, I checked the versions of these 3 components in the portal and found that only J2EE is upgraded. Neither Portal platform nor the KMC has upgraded. Is there anything else that I need to do ?
    regards
    Sudheer

    Sudheer,
You have to upgrade each component separately. Don't unsar everything together. This is what you do.
    1. Unsar all the files required for J2ee upgrade.
    3. run the sapinst to upgrade.
    4. Delete all the folder/files directory created by unsar
    5. Unsar all the files required for EP.
    6. run the sapinst to upgrade EP.
    7. Delete all the folder/files created by unsar.
    8. Unsar all the files required for KMC.
    9. run the sapinst to upgrade KMC.
    10. delete all the folder/files created by unsar

  • Migrate 6.20 Java App to NW04 J2EE in NWDS

We are moving our java apps from WAS 6.20 to NW04(S).
The SAP migration tool is designed for several third party vendors but does not work with SAP 6.20.
We can take the EAR file from 6.20 and use the Deploy/Convert tools to deploy the application to NW04S.
However, we are not sure how to convert the 6.20 Eclipse project to an NW04(S) J2EE project in Netweaver Development Studio.
Has anyone seen a tutorial on this topic?
    Cheers ... Bart

    Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your post on this topic.  We have visited that link that you mentioned.  It gives a good overview.
We have been able to take a 6.20 ear file and use the deploy/convert tools to get the 6.20 java development running on 6.40.
Our question is more centered around the "Using NWDS" part of that link.   We are really looking for a previous example/tutorial of the process of importing a 6.20 project into 6.40 and then doing the manual conversion.
    Thanks again ... Bart
