NWDI recommendations

I am supporting a landscape with XI, portal and UCES (java pages for utilities). I would like to use NWDI for tracking abilities of dynpro development.  The caveat is I have a team of < 10 developers for dynpro. I dont want to overcomplicate the process.  Is there way to do this?
Thanks

  • NWDI in upgrade project - Recommendations

    Dear All,
We are upgrading ECC and Portal. Earlier client doesn't have NWDI.
Now we are using NWDI, so the customer wants the below recommendations.
    1. Provide a recommendation for use of NWDI within the Upgrade project.
    2. Provide a recommendation for possible ongoing / expanded usage of NWDI at the project.
    Please provide your suggestions.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    1. If you are implementing ESS/MSS you can upgrade the components using NWDI.
In general for deploying components you either use JSPM or SDM to deploy. And NWDI uses the same method to deploy the components.
It's upto you to use NWDI or to deploy them directly.
Recommendation would be if implementing ESS/MSS you can use NWDI. If you are not modifying the standard SAP Delivered component then you can deploy the components directly.
    2. It depends on what all things are you planning to implement.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers-

  • Recommended SLD setup for NWDI

I have been looking at the SLD planning guide and noticed a few scenarios listed there. Does anyone here have recommendations.
The one that looked good to me was the 2 SLD (1 for DEV and QAS) with NWDI connected, and another (1 for PRD).
I was wondering if NWDI is only connected to a non prod sld, will this be a problem when you want to migrate objects to production?
Also from what I gather in this guide, it appears that NWDI can have its own SLD. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to this?
    Thanks

No this will not pose an issue, the NWDI uses the SLD only during the configuration process. Deployments are done independant of your SLD configuration.
    > Also from what I gather in this guide, it appears

Yes this is an option too. Although this does not remind me of any advantages, other than the ease(to a very samll degree) of configuration.

  • How to setup NWDI environment in the Windows Server 2000?

    Hi,
I need to setup NWDI environment in the Windows Server 2000. I have NWDS and SAP R/3 6.0 installed along with SAP EP 7.0.
Please provide me with enough details to do so.
from where i need to download NWDI software?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sathya

    Hi ,
recommend you to install it in new hardware as nwdi uses hardware resources efficiently.
You  have to install a NWDI (NetWeaver Development Infrastructure -or- Usage Type "DI") with netweaver installer .otherwise you can deploy below sca files from sdm after downloading them from service market place
    ___DICBS*_.SCA |DI COMPONENT BUILD SERVER 7.00
    ___DICMS*_.SCA |DI CHANGE MGMT SERVER 7.00
    ___DIDTR*_.SCA |DI DESIGN TIME REPOSITORY 7.00
    check sap note Note 883948
for post installation steps, you can search sdn.eeasily you can found blogs.

  • NWDI in SAP EHP1 for NW 7.3

    Hi All,
I am new to NWDI concept.
Can any one provide me the step by step process for NWDI in EHP1 for NW 7.3.
I am having the doc for 7.x but this not explains the process correctly.
When I do so it is asking for more configuration.
Please let me know the DOC start from SLD config.
    Regards
    R.Prakash

    Hi All,
Please let me know the steps I followed is right:
    1. http://<host>:50000/sld/ -> Set up the SLD and it started running.
2.http://<host>:50000/sld/fun -> Enabled the "CM services","NWDI using CMS" and NWDI using CM services - recommended","SLD" and "service Registry".
    3. http://<host>:50000/nwa -> configuration->scenarios->Config Wizard
and tried to run the "DI CMS - create application skeleton" but I am getting error as
"Error: unknown exception: Cannot find software component release (Vendor/Name/Release valenet.net/MYCOMPONENTS/1.0) in CMS. UpdateCMS Server or/and check SLD component content.Error: unknown exception: Cannot find software component release (Vendor/Name/Release valenet.net/MYCOMPONENTS/1.0) in CMS. UpdateCMS Server or/and check SLD component content."
same error I am getting when running "Integration of MII with existing NWDI".
I guess the information filled in the create track is wrong. Can any one tell me the step I followed is right and also where can I get the information about the Software Components?

  • NWDI in NW2004s- how to start.!!!

    Hi Gurus,
I have installed NWDI component in NW2004s with usage type EP.
Now I am implementing ESS in EP. What are the steps to be carried out to get NWDI control the software life cycle.
For Example : setup cms,cbs and dtr?
    setup tracks in SLD.
how do I do these things...
    Pld advice..
    Regards,
    Ramesh

    Ideally you need course ADM225.
You need to install an NWDI system - Usage type DI.
This cannot be on your EP system as it will  probably cause CMS lockouts amongst other things... SAP does not recommend it.
The full information on setup is in the online help in the J2EE Developers manual although this is a Basis task!
There is an install guide but it does not give enough to understand what you need to do. There are some important decisions to make first.
Embarking on NWDI is quite time consuming and expensive so make sure you need it.
The DI system is quite resource hungry and will be veeeery slow is RAM is short so size it right.
Developer config is a big decision point. They all want to have a local J2EE for testing om which is quite sensible but in reality that means 2 CPU's and 2GB RAM or more ofr each developer.
SLD / Namespace location is important
User roles and track configuration are also very important decisions.

  • Problem configuring CAF / GP on NWDI

    Hi expert,
I am newbie in using CAF and JDI. Currently I required to configure CAF / GP on NWDI and I have followed the steps recommended in "Installation Cookbook - Configure CAF / FP on NWDI 7.00".
I have also download the archives as listed below and imported them successfully to CMS:
    SAPJTECHS.sca
    SAPBUILDT.sca
    SAPJEE.sca
    BIUDI.sca
    BIMMR.sca
    SAPEU.sca
    CAF.sca
    CAFKM.sca
However, as I try to import them to the Development System, the browser response with the status "Import failed" . I look at the log files, and saw something like this:
    Info:Starting Step Repository-import at 2007-06-12 15:16:17.0375 +8:00
    Info:Component:sap.com/BI_UDI
    Info:Version  :SAP AG.20070131230600
Info:1. PR is of type TCSSoftwareComponent
Info:==> sources will not be imported for this SC
    Info:Step Repository-import ended with result 'not needed' at 2007-06-12 15:16:17.0406 +8:00
    can advise?
    Thank you.

    Hi
I have looked through the System SIC -> monitor, I released that there is appropriate version of SCA in the server. Does that explain the following error message ?
Info:==> sources will not be imported for this SC
    Info:Step Repository-import ended with result 'not needed' at 2007-06-12 15:16:17.0406 +8:00
Even with that components, I have skipped the following steps
    9) import the checked in archives into the Development system (which is unsuccessful)
    10) import the checked in archives into the consolidated system
    11) configure runtime systems in the track
    12) import the development configuration
And I proceed to the steps Chandan has advised:
    4. Now go to the NWDS and set the URL of server in Development Configuration perspective as per the doc.
    5. Now Login through user id and password from NWDS.
    6. select your track and import it.
In NWDS, I went on to locate my component in the tracks and want to create local Web Dynpro DC with the dependencies set. So I right click and select Create New DC... and sync it as Web Dynpro.
Then I encounter the following error:
Development Component Creation completed with some problems.
    Reason:
some used DCs are not available locally,
you have to sync used DCs for this project.
I decided to sync the DCs by right click on the Used DCs folder and select Add Used DC...
From there I went on to select sap.com_SAP_JTECHS. As I expand the tree for this, there isn't any component for me to sync.
I cannot proceed if there is missing components and the components:
    webdynproruntime_designtime_coupling_api.jar
    webdynproruntime_designtime_coupling.jar
    webdynproruntime_designtime_repository_pmr.jar
    webdynproruntime_designtime_repository.jar
    webdynproruntime_services.jar
    webdynpromodel_dynamicrfc.jar
    webdynpromodelimlp.jar
    webdynproprogmodel.jar etc
I realise that they are from SAPJTECHS which already in the NW.
    Can help?
    Thanks

  • NWDI version compatibility

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there are any version compatibility constraints developing Java WebDynpro applications on an NWDI (WAS6.40) for deployment on a WAS7.00 instance (e.g. JDK's)?
I've yet to find a general recommendation similar to that seen for SLD (i.e. keep in line with the highest WAS version on the estate) or any clear documentation on version compatibility across WAS stacks with respect to NWDI.
We have a highly complex landscape with multiple component/ product versions, and we'd prefer to have a singel central NWDI instance, but I'm not sure if this is practical and/ or possible.
Any pointers/ documentation/ comments gratefully received
    Cheers
    Neil

While I can't remember where I've seen it, SAP does recommend that the DI always be kept patched to the latest levels, regardless of what version your landscape (or pieces thereof ) is at.
So, as long as your DI is at patched to at least the same level as your most 'advanced' system, you should not have any problem.  You should also match your Developer Studio to the same level as your target system to avoid using any plug-ins that offer features not offered by the eventual runtime system.  Yes, the required libraries will be ok (as long as you configure the SLD and the associated track correctly), but the Developer Studio itself needs to be matched up.
    Hope that makes sense.

  • SAPJSF  Name or password is incorrect (repeat logon)  in NW SR3 NWDI deploy

    Hi,
    I am installing NW7.0  SR3
    In step of deploying :
Initial setup of functional unit Development Infrastructure (DI all-in-one)
    there is an error :
Name or password is incorrect (repeat logon)
    Destination parameters
    user : SAPJSF
    password : % secure content %
    host : localhost
    sysnr : $$
    client : 001
    language : null
I tried to change the password in ume.r3.connection.master.passwd
which is exacting the same in ABAP side
    but it doesn't work
Anyone has ides to solve this problems?
    Thx.
    John

ideally you should not use NWDI as an Add in, it is not a recommended scenario.
For problem shooting this I would look in the Server0 directory for the RFC trace file which should show you what the issue is.
If not I would then log onto the ABAP system with NWDI down, go to SM50 and increate the trace level of all DIA Wp's but only have the Security component ticked... then I would start up the J2EE and after it has failed to connect I would look through the trace files (after turning off tracing) looking for the word sapjsf. That should tell you exactly why it is failing.
hopefully the sysnr below of $$ was just a typo.
Ensure it is client 001 that you have changed the sapjsf password in (a common error)

  • Application deployment using SDM or NWDI

    Hello guys,
I'm working on a web dynpro + web services application. It's was developed to work with
SAP Portal, and MDM 5.5 SP06.
But we have a problem here. As you people know, we have two forms of deployment of the application to a portal: SDM and NWDI.
Of course, for security reasons, the company has forbidden the access to the SDM password, so, we are unable to deploy the EAR file directly to the portal server.
We're then working with NWDI deployment, (create activity then activate). But we are getting alot of trouble here.
The developers are creating alot of actitivties to test the application, i mean, everytime they need to test anything, they create a "test" actitivty then activate it to the development portal.
I'm really concerned about those activities, because i wonder if they might mess up with the NWDI and compromise the future of the project.
Then again, the deployment over this method (test activities) almost never work. The developers complains alot because they can't find the deployment logs, and the deploy just don't work. Otherwise, the SDM deploy works everytime on their own portals installed on their notebooks.
So, there is my question: There is anyway to find a document, best pratice or anything to show to the company, that the SDM deploy is recommended or anything by SAP?
There is anyway to show them that the develpoers NEED to test (deploy) the application via SDM?
I mean, i need something more than just the opinion of the developers or my opinion, i need a document or something.
Thanks people, sorry for my bad english!

This thread discuees abuout NWDI and SDM and it might helpful:

  • Is same OS for CE7.1 and NWDI of 2004s possible?

    Dear Sirs,
Now I'm using CE7.1 Dev Edition as an evaluation and considering to use NWDI for Team Development after staring  development phase.
Is it possible that I install CE7.1 and NWDI of 2004s into same server? (I want to have two different vesion of AS Java instances in one OS)
If there are any recommendation, pls tell me.
As far as I searched, I couldn't find out the document about system landscape like best practice.
    TnR
    Shingo

    Hi Shingo,
You can install NWDI 2004s and CE 7.1 in the same OS.
Up to NW CE 7.1 SP3 no NWDI servers are part of the NW CE shipment (since SP4, SP5, … will contain corrections only this applies to all upcoming SPs for NW CE 7.1 as well). If you want to use NWDI for development targeting NW CE 7.1 you could use a NW 2004s installation of usage type DI – starting with NW2004s SP 13 this is fully functional. With NW2004s SP level < 13 NWDI can also be used for CE development but the automatic deployment targeting a CE runtime does not work – this works only starting with SP 13.
With NW CE 7.1.1 NWDI servers will become part of the NW CE shipment.
    Hope this helps you.
    regards
    Pankaj

  • Steps in NWDI

    Hi Experts,
I am new to NWDI and having some questions.
I have downloaded a project from repository in development infrastructure perspective using the create project option and made some changes in a DC.I have seen in SDN  and in help.sap  that a DC should be sychronized before making any changes.
i have seen the following options in the development infrastructure prespective when I right click on a DC under sync/create project option.
Sync Active sources,Sync inactive sources,Sync Archives,Resync,Sync used DC.
Please let me know which option I need to choose to make the DC in sync state and what are the purpose of other options.
    Regards
    Rajesh

    Hi,
When creating a project you create from Inactive DC's, and it's recommended to sync sources before creating the project to ensure you have latest changes which are in active DC's.
To explain, you have multiple user's making changes to same DC, and when you are creating the project you don't know whether you have all the changes done by others when creating a project from Inactive DC's view.
So to ensure you have the changes done by other users to the DC you need to synce the sources.
In NWDS, in Development Component Perspective go to Inactive DC's view and select Sync Sources from the right click menu before creating project.
To explain the flow of changes
    Track_D-inactive workspace -> track_D-active workspace -> Track_C-inactive workspace -> Track_C-active workspace -> Assembly -> Test -> Approval -> Production
    Track_D - Development buildspace
    Track_C -  Consolidation buildspace.
    Hope this helps.

  • NWDI and JDK 1.5

    Hi
is there anyone here using JDK 1.5 with NWDI SP 15 and EP 6 SP 15?

Make sure you read the whole note.  There is a very important part that Divakar left out which I have copied below.
Access to appropriate Sun J2SE Version:
Please use Sun J2SE 1.4.2_09 SDK (or higher 1.4.2 versions after they
will become available). It is not recommended to use versions lower than 1.4.2_09. Please also do not use J2SE 5.0
    Important note:
<b>In contrast to the recommendation above please do not use J2SE 1.4.2_10 as it has problems during installation. The problem is under investigation.</b>
The J2SE 1.4.2 SDK is available from

  • NWDI and DC - Broken in WDP Perspective

    Hi,
I've got a WDP Component (Utils) which is inside NWDI. I've tried to use Create Project command in NWDI, do get a version to work with. It downloads the project to my local machine, however, it's not showing in WDP view. It shows in Navigator view, as a Java project, like every other project.
I've already seem something like that, the fix should be some editing related to .project, .classpath files I think.
Can someone help me with this? - I'm not sure exactly how to update these files to make it load again in WDP view (so I can rebuild - redeploy).
    Regards,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
The .project file contains information about natures from which it knows the kind of the project.
For Web Dynpro project, it needs to have Web Dynpro & Dictionary natures apart from regular java.
    <natures>
    <nature>com.sap.ide.webdynpro.archivebuilder.WebDynproNature</nature>
    <nature>com.sap.dictionary.tools.archivebuilder.DictionaryNature</nature>
    <nature>org.eclipse.jdt.core.javanature</nature>
    </natures>
    Hope this answers your concern.
    Kind Regards,
    Nitin Jain
PS: I would recommend you to delete the project from Navigator view, edit .project file & then create project.
