NWDS on linux

Well there has been a lot of posts regarding getting SAP products to work on Linux, and even more posts politely asking SAP to start supporting Linux.
We obviously can't get SAP to support Linux, if we could they would have done so by now. What we can do is to make workaround where applicable.
I'll ask all you Linux fans to post here in this tread what you have done to use you favourite Linux distribution in stead of Windows. I'll start.
I mainly develop portal applications, and one lucky thing about portal applications is that they're pretty much self contained. I have developed a ANT build script compatible with both ant 1.5 and 1.6 meaning that it'll work with the embedded ant of both NWDS and Eclipse 3.2. This build script can do all the tasks of the portal plugin in NWDS. I can't give you the entire build script, however i have deployed a smaller version at the DynPagePlus site (http://dynpageplus.sf.net) capable of compiling, building and deploying portal projects. See dynpageplus site for details. You could easily extend this script to create portal components and whatever other stubs you need.
My private build script can generate portal components and services, RFC and JDBC stubs and AXIS webservice clients. It supports continuous integration throug either Continuum or Anthill OS.
I also published a maven 1.1 plugin capable of handling portal projects, so if you like maven style project management, this is also a possibility.
I like to help you generating your ant scripts if you need.
Now lets hear your story.
Best regards
Thomas Bentzen

You definitely have my vote!
I wonder if it is really that hard to come up with a Linux version. The foundation of NWDS (Eclipse) is cross-platform, and so are SAP's tools to connect to the back-end to generate models etc (Jco)...
Anway, I would love to see this happen and can't wait to get my hands on it when it is hopefully released in the future sometime.

  • Stuck with install/first use of Adobe forms in NWDS

    Hi
I'm trying to use interactive forms in NWDS, but there seems to be nowhere in NWDS that I can access anything Adobe like. I'm not sure if this a very simple thing I'm missing in NWDS, or my installation has gone wrong.
From the beginning, I've installed Web AS ABAP+Java plugin 2004s SP6, running under linux. Everything starts up fine.
I'm running Windows XP on a virtual box to install SAPGUI 7.10 and NWDS 7.0.12. Can connect with SAPGUI and from NWDS to J2EE message server.
Installed Adobe Live Cycle Designer 7.1 (as not part of NWDS installation - 816065) plus patch plus xACF. Registered WDAbobeControl.dll according to 822198.
Tested successfully Adobe Webservices from browser, but do get an 500 error when called from within NWDS.
To start using forms, what should I do next ? I've tried creating a webdynpro project, but there's no indication of how to call a layout.
Any successful pointers rewarded with, er, points
    Thanks, Phil

    hi Philip,
Have you installed and configured ADS on your server.
without ADS... you cant work on your interactive forms.
    <b>check the following points</b>
<b>(this is an old version of requirements but still will help)</b>
<b>2-1</b> The SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (Support Package Stack 11) including Adobe LiveCycle Designer (forms design tool) is installed on your computer.
<b>2-2</b> You have access to the SAP J2EE Engine (Release 6.40). (Note that you can download an evaluation version (Sneak Preview SAP Web Application Server 6.40 Java) from the SDN Download Area at https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/downloadarea.sdn.)
<b>2-3</b> Adobe Reader 7.0.x is installed on your computer.
<b>2-4</b> The Active Component Framework (ACF) of the Interactive Forms integration is installed on your computer. With SP Stack 11, calling a Web Dynpro application that includes a PDF form for the first time should automatically install the ACF in the background. If you experience
difficulties that may be related to the frontend installation, please see SAP Note 766191 on the SAP Service Marketplace for manual installation.
<b>2-5</b> The Adobe document services are configured on the SAP J2EE Engine you are using. To access the Installation and Configuration Guides for Adobe document services, go to http://service.sap.com/nw04installation &#8594; SAP Web AS &#8594; SAP Web AS 6.40 SR1 and Related Documentation &#8594; Adobe Document Services.
<b>2-6</b> Basic knowledge of developing Web Dynpro applications. For helpful information about Web Dynpro, go to https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/developerareas/webdynpro.sdn?node=linkDnode6-2.

  • Download NWDS 7.0.11

    Hi,
Where could I download NetWeaver Developer Studio 7.011 ?
I already search in market place and sdn, in market place I found a sar file, but I need an exe file because I don't have access as admin in SAP server.
In Sdn is a trial version for Linux.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards,
    Jenny

    Hi Jenny,
The .SAR file is the file you need, it is a SAP Archive file.... so you can compare it with a .ZIP file but .SAR isn't compatible with ZIP.... So to be able to unpack the .SAR file you need SAPCAR.EXE you can also find that on Marketplace:
    Downloads >
Support Packages and Patches - Entry by Application Group >
    SAP Technology Components >
    SAPCAR >
    SAPCAR 7.01 >
    Windows Server on IA32 32bit
place all the files in a folder...
In the command prompt execute the command :
    SAPCAR.exe u2013xvf <downloaded_nwdi_file_form_marketplace>.SAR
After you run this command the .SAR file will be unpacked and you will see a directory structure...
Browse into \J2EE-RUNT-CD\IDE\    and run  IDE70setup.exe
This will  trigger the installation of NWDS.
PS please be aware that you also need the Sun JDK 1.4.2 to be installed and set in your environment/user variables of Windows.
    Cheers,

    Hi Reza,
    Hope you are doing good.
You can set the trace level in the SAP/Java Gui dynamically :
    Call transaction SMICM
Choose the menu Goto → Trace Level → Set
In the pop-up window, set the desired level (0,1,2,3)
To switch on an /nSMICM or ICM HTTP trace via command line you should go to
usr\sap\<SID>\<instance_number>\exe directory and run the icmon program with the following command:
    icmon◦◦pf=\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\profile\<SID>_<instance_name>_<HOST>
where you fill in the SID, instance name and host corresponding to your system.
The icmon program is interactive and to increase trace level you must write
"+" and pres enter. To quit you must write  "q" and press enter.
The trace will be written◦to the following file: usr\sap\<SID>\<instance_number>\work\dev_icm
    Thank you!

  • Adobe forms on Linux?

For all of my reading, I can't find a system requirement for the Adobe forms designer with respect to NWDS.  Adobe's website states that Windows XP is required for Life Cycle Designer, but that's not helping me.  Is the plug-in for NWDS also Windows-only?  My understanding of Eclipse is that it's a OS agnostic system....
    Can someone help me out?

    Hi Ken,
while your statement on Eclipse and the NWDI is correct (and the Adobe document services can also run on a Linux-based J2EE Engine), the Designer is, unfortunately, a Windows-only tool.
To my knowledge, there are no plans by Adobe to support it on other platforms in the foreseeable future either.

  • Technology Preview SAP NetWeaver 04 for linux broken?

    Hi,
I downloaded the "Technology Preview SAP NetWeaver 04 - SAP Web Application Server on Linux" from this site and followed the installation instructions.
There were no problems during the server installation. Everything I tried so far worked.
The installation of the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio did not work however. During the 1st installation I got the message:
    c:\program files\common files\sap shared\sapchart.ocx
    c:\program files\adobe\designer 6.0\filesystembrowser.dll
could not be installed. To view the log, open
    file://Y:\J2EELX1\IDE\setup\saplogvw.exe.
Unfortunately I cannot find the the program saplogvw.exe.
If I start the developer studio, I encounter two problems:
I can change the perspective once, for instance to development configurations. From there I cannot change the perspective any more. In the console I get the error message:
An error has occurred restoring the coolbar layout. java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Argument not valid
Unhandled exception caught in event loop.
    Reason:

    Reason:

I did the 1st installation on a linux box with SuSE linux 9.0. The server is on the same box.
Then I tried a 2nd installation of the developer studio on a laptop with windows 2000. The laptop is connected to the linux box though a local network. The installation went through without errors. I also can change the perspectives repeatedly without getting any exception. However, I cannot connect to the server. I set the message server parameters of the SAP J2EE engine to
    host: nw4host
    port: 3601.
With tcpdump I can see, that the developer studio does not send any IP packets through the network, i.e. it does not try to connect to the server. And I cannot login, e.g. in the development configurations, because the "login" is disabled.
With a browser, I can connect to the server, however.
    What did I miss?
Thanks for any help in advance,
    Andreas.

    hi Andreas,
The problem is with your UNPACKING of YOUR NWDS SAR File. i had similar problems when i unpacked the NWDS SP13 file. i guess the sapcar file was corrupted or the downloaded file was corrupted.
but i down loaded NWDS SP14 and used <b>SAPCAR -XVF JIDE14_0-10002804.SAR</b> to unpack and install.
Now i'm able to use the Studio fine.
Regarding the second problem, you should point your J2EE server to the place where it is installed. And you should have the SDM password to deploy the applications in your server.
    Regards
    Ak.

You do not require RFCSDK to build a jaava application that uses JCO on LINUX.

    My server is running properly
    1 - Where is sap-plugin.log file? I don´t find it.
2 - Could there be another file with another name with information about the error?
3 - Is there another way to deploy the file directly from the ECC?

    Hi Nilesh,
Try opening Visual Admin if your not able to login with username(administrator) and password. Problem with NWD2004s do the following steps.
    C:\usr\sap\J2E\JC01\j2ee\configtool->configtool.bat->open it
    1. Click on Secure store
    2. Right you will find :
admin/password/J2E->retype your admin passowrd which you gave during installation=>SAVE properly
Restart the server and try login visual admin
Deploy now...Other wise see this thread same error solved:

    - Use the latest JDK
    - Just set your LD_LIBRARY_path     $ORACLE_HOME/lib:/usr/lib
    LD_LIBRARY_path     $ORACLE_HOME/lib:/usr/lib

  • Installation problem on fedora linux

    Hi
I am trying to install oracle 10g to Fedora Linux.
    When I type ./runInstaller :
    Exception java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /tmp/OraInstall2007-08-21_12-40-12AM/jre/1.4.2/lib/i386/libawt.so:...........................
    Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
Please help me to solve this problem

    Ricardinho,
try post full error message (or stack trace) because in this case we can only guess...
Also when you post name of Linux distribution then don't forget post the version.
Anyway according to partial error message I think there is missing libXp.so.6 library on your OS.
So execute "yum install libXp" to install required package. Od locate the package on installtion media and install it via "rpm -ivh" command.
Note: In FC5 and later libXp.so.6 is included in libXp package. In FC4 and older releases you need to install xorg-deprecated-libs package.

    Somebody can help me ?????
    Thank's ....

    Hello!
I also tried to install Oracle 8.1.6.1 (after giving up the 8.0.5 installation due to segmentation faults all over..), it also failed.
After trying to install Oracle 8.1.6.1 on RedHat 7.0 and it still crashed, i sent a mail to some guru that wrote the oracle-how-to document for redhat, here is what he replied.
    My guess is that this also applies to the newest slackware version, because i presume that slackware 7.0 also use the newest glibc libraries;
    Thanks for the feedback.
Oracle 8.1.6 does not work under Red Hat >Linux 7. Yes, that's the problem
that I mentioned in the doc--you get to 80% >and the DBCA crashes and the
    Oracle executables die.
I've heard, but I haven't tried it myself, >that if you install the latest
glibc errata (2.1.94) then the DBCA >completes but the Oracle executables
still die. The DBCA problem was apparently >a Java issue that is fixed in
the errata. But you're still out of luck >since the exes won't work.
It might appear that this is a problem with >Red Hat Linux 7. But it appears
that it is a problem with some assumptions >that Oracle made, assumptions
that worked with glibc 2.1.3 (the C library >included with RHL 6.2) but which
prove false with later glibc versions. As >other Linux distributions adopt
the new glibc Oracle will fail to work on >them as well.
The best advice I can give at this point is >to install and run Oracle on
Red Hat Linux 6.2. Hopefully Oracle will >address the glibc issues with the
    8.1.7 release.
ChrisI then installed Orace on RedHat 6.1 and it worked like a dream.
Maybe you guys should try your luck on an earier version of slackware?
    Hope that helped...
