NXT Toolkit with V8.2

I've been working with LabView v7.1 and creating a number of applications that use Bluetooth to communicate between my laptop and the NXT unit. These were all built and tested for Windows machines. I want to also make them Mac compatible, but 7.1 doesn't support Bluetooth in the Mac.
So I've installed v 8.2. When I try to install the NXT toolkit, the installer finds the toolkit in 7.1 and opts to leave it on the local disk and not install anything into v 8.2.  When I try to start my v 7.1 vi's in 8.2 the program starts asking for the location of nxt.ctl, and all the direct command objects like NXTToolkit.DC.CreateNXTObject.vi. I've done a mass compile on v 8.2 but that seems to have no effect.

The NXT Toolkit installer only allows you to install the software once right now.  The most direct work-around is to un-install the toolkit from 7.1 and then re-install it in the 8.2 directory.  Alternately, you can get creative and find the files in the 7.1 directory and manually copy them into your 8.2 directory.

  • LabVIEW NXT toolkit and Vista

    Hi All,
This is not a burning problem, but have folks tried out the NXT toolkit with Vista?  I've installed Vista Business Edition under our MSDNAA license on a development machine to start slogging through compatability issues with our current suite of software, and it appears the LabVIEW NXT toolkit may be an early casualty.
The toolkit installs fine under Vista BusEd, but the NXT console application crashes when I try to run it from the LabVIEW IDE menu.
    Any thoughts/experiences with this?
    Best regards,
    -Bill  =]

    Hi Joel,
Thanks for your reply.  The specifics of my development system are below:
    OS: Windows Vista Business
Proc: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHZ
    RAM: 1014 MB
    Type: 32-bit OS
I chose to use the Vista UPGRADE of WinXPsp2 rather than a wipe and clean install.  Before upgrading the OS I removed all previous versions of LabVIEW (7.1 and 8.0) and also removed the Mindstorms NXT-G system.
After the OS upgrade to 32-bit VistaBusEd, I installed LabVIEW 8.20, then Mindstorms NXT-G, several LabVIEW Toolkits and finally the LabVIEW NXT Toolkit.
When I try to load LabVIEW code that uses (for example) the sendDirectCommand.vi from the FantomSDK, I get the following block diagram error:
"Call Library Function Node 'fantom.dll:nFANTOM100_iNXT_sendDirectCommand': function not found in library
Details: The function name specified for this node cannot be found in the library.  Right-click the Call Library Function node and select Configure, then choose the correct function name.
When I follow the Details procedure, I specify the exact location of the fantom.dll, select nFANTOM100_iNXT_sendDirectCommand from the Function name dropdown listbox, the Thread is set to Reentrant and the Calling convention is set to "C".........after closing the dialog I get:
    Error loading "C:\.....path.....\fantom.dll".
A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.
Also, when I create a blank vi and drop a function from the LabVIEW NXT toolkit, such as NXTToolkit.DC.FindNXT.vi on the block diagram, I imediately get the following similar error:
    Error loading "fantom.dll".
A dynamic line library (DLL) initialization routine failed.
    Does this help?
    Many thanks,
    -Bill  =]
p.s. - BTW, the Minstorms NXT-G system works as expected under the 32-bit VistaBusEd using both USB and Bluetooth.....so I guess VistaBusEd is able to intialize and communicate through the fantom.dll when used by NXT-G.

  • Problems getting NXT toolkit to work with version 8.5

I recently downloaded the nxt toolkit to use with  labview version 8.5 when i select tools and go to the nxt module it minimises the labview window for a few seconds and then the nxt module opens for around a secondand then disappears, does anyone know whats causing this any help greatly appeciated.

You could try to do a File->Save for Previous Version on the PID VIs that you want to use.  However,
if one of the PID subVIs was saved without a block diagram then this
won't work. Also, I'm not sure if the toolkit is backwards compatible
in this way. Also, when you do this you will effectively be saving the
VI hierarchy into a new location.
However, your best bet (and my recommendation) is to contact your local NI sales rep to see if they can get you a CD with the 8.5 version. Since you have a license for the toolkit it's probably not going to be an issue.

  • NXT bug with an array of non 32bit integers in a cluster

There is a bug in the NXT toolkit.
attached is an llb "non 32bit bug.vi" displays the problem.
If you create a constant which is an array of clusters with no 32 bit data the toolkit magles the creation of the constant. The first element in the array will be correct but the rest of it will be 0xFF for every byte.
Note that the problem does not happen if the array is created dynamically.
The VI runs corectly under windows but not when compiled for the NXT.
    Thanks,

  • Teaching LabVIEW to engineering students: is the NXT Toolkit recommended?

We have used NXT kits in our freshmen engineering design course with great success.  We may overhaul our curriculum to replace ROBOLAB with the LabVIEW NXT Toolkit (our second choice would be NXT-G).  We would like to give our students an early exposure to LabVIEW.  We are hesitant about the sparse documentation and programming sophistication needed to effectively use the Toolkit.  However, we believe we can overcome these concerns by locating and/or developing appropriate teaching materials.
We would appreciate hearing comments and/or experiences regarding the suitability of the Toolkit for this purpose.  We are especially interested in knowing if further documentation (beyond the three PDF’s on the NI website) is available or planned.  If anyone else is teaching the Toolkit in engineering courses, we would be very interested in a mutual exchange of course materials.
Thank you in advance for any guidance!

    Matthew,
I am currently in the process of getting some resources together that might prove very helpful for you.  If you look at this site,
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5221
you'll see some labs that were made in the NXT-G software for a high-profile university.  They were used in a freshman entry-level engineering lab and they proved highly successful for all involved.
I'm working on getting them ported over to a LabVIEW version that uses the NXT toolkit, but by looking at the labs you'll see that this is a process that could probably be done on your end without much of a time investment.
I'll try to let you know when I'm done with the project and can share the labs with you!

  • Does LabVIEW 8.6 support the NXT toolkit?

Does LabVIEW 8.6 support the NXT toolkit?, the NXT toolkit 1.0.1 patch does not give instructions on how to load it with LabVIEW 8.6.   Does anyone know how to load the patch with LabVIEW 8.6?
    LEGOAustin

    Hi LEGOAUSTIN,
Check out the forum dedicated to Lego: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board?board.id=beta18. It is largely community driven but sometimes NI employees post.
I would also talk to Lego about NXT support. Check out his KB on the issue: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/59F9356834A0E85086257244007A3354?OpenDocument.
What I can give you in the meantime is to ensure you've done the right order:
Install the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Toolkit v1.0
    Restart the computer
    Install the LEGO patch 1.0.1
As for explicit support in LabVIEW 8.6, it doesn't appear to be any right now and I cannot comment on the future.
A quick Google Search came up with this as a possible work around: http://forums.nxtasy.org/index.php?showtopic=3277

  • Report generation toolkit with openoffice

    hello all
i would like to know if it is possible to use the report generation toolkit with openoffice instead microsoft office? because i do not have the toolkit already i can't test it and i will only buy it if this is possible...
i ask also because i used another application with word export not long ago what was ending with the error message "windows ole server not found". so the question is if something of the microsoft product line is necessary? i am quite sure that the opening of a produced doc would be possible in openoffice without problems - at least i hope so!
only one thread i found, unfortunately in french : http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=4170&message.id=13060&query.id=139594#M13060
    thanks a lot, mischl

Another option to consider is to use the report generation VIs that ship with LV and simply output to a PDF document rather than a hardcopy printer.

  • Sound and Vibration Toolkit with NI-SCOPE AND NI-FGEN

    Hi,
I would like to use the Sound and Vibration Toolkit with the NI-FGEN and NI-SCOPE,specifically the stepped sine analysis. The stepped sine VI's are compatible with only DAQmx and not NI-SCOPE and NI-FGEN,right?
    Any way around this?

    Hi there,
Firstly I assume you mean Swept sine and not stepped!?
This is the closest thing I could find:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/3347
I had a look for you and there is nothing that works with a swept sine in FGEN or SCOPE natively that we supply.  However I do believe that a lot of the functionality could be programmed in FGEN and SCOPE vi's.
You would however need to make copies of all the Swept Sine VI's and replace all DAQmx calls and property nodes with the appropriate SCOPE/FGEN vi's.
Not a short answer I'm afraid and I can't guarantee that all the functionality is going to be there.
Sorry its not a better answer.

  • TI DSP Toolkit with Code Composer Platinum

I've been using the LV DSP toolkit for TI with Code Composer 2.2x for some time with no problems.  Recently upgraded to CCS Platinum and the DSP VIs aren't behaving as they used to.  Primary problem is trying to open CCS, looks like it tries to open then immediately closes back down.
Has anyone else used the DSP toolkit with CCS Platinum?  I may just switch back to CCS 2.2x.
    Best regards and thanks,
    Matthew

    Hi Anurag,
The DSP toolkit is only compatable with a few pieces of hardware.  You can find that information at this link.  If you are not using the mentioned hardware then there is no guarantee that it will work.  The reason you get the memory error is because MAX, and hence LabVIEW, does not recognize the device.  It makes sense that it works when you use your own software to flash the program because you are bypassing the NI software that is not compatable with that device.  Unfortunately, unless you are using one of the specific pieces of supported hardware there isn't much more we can do.  I would recommend that if you are able to get your program to work using the flash mode, then just continue to do that way instead of trying to download it with the emulator.  Thanks and have a great day.

I have used TI DSP Toolkit with Code Composer to interface with code composer and LabVIEW. I am able to open the project, build the project etc. When I am downloading my binary to the DSP, the application is throwing error saying memmory address could not be validated. • Report Generation Toolkit with Excel 2003 and Excel 2000

    Hello,
I'm using the Report Generation Toolkit to generate an Excel report from an Excel template.
The "NI_Excel.lvclass" is included in the "source" section of the application builder options.
I create an exe file on  a PC where Excel 2003 is installed. On a Notebook, where only Excel 2000 is installed, the application crashes at the generation of the report:
I guess the problem is the different version of Excel but I don't know. On the developer PC with Excel 2003 it works fine.
In this document it's only talked about different Word versions.
How can I use the Report Generation Toolkit here?
    I'm using it that way:
    Regards

Oh, it seems that the Report Generation Toolkit "only" supports Excel XP/2003/2007.
    I think, that's the problem.

  • Can't print to Epson TM-U590 Slip Printer from Report Generation Toolkit with LabVIEW 8.6.1

    Hi all,
I have an application that uses the Report Generation Toolkit to print tickets to a docket printer.  Usually this works fine - I have 8 existing installations where there are no problems
I'm currently installing the software at a new site that uses an Epson TM-U590 slip printer and I can't for the life of me get printing to work
Using a Standard Report, the Print Report.vi returns error -41002 which indicates it can't find the printer.  I've opened up the VI using remote debugging and it does find the printer name correctly with the Query Available Printers.vi.  It gets an error code -2147352567 from the Printout node, which then gets replaced with the -41002 error which is reported.
For historical reasons I'm still using LabVIEW 8.6.1 for this project.  I'm considering moving to 2011 or 2012 but I've had reliability issues with other parts of the application after attempting to update to a newer LabVIEW version so I'd like to avoid that at this stage.
The application is running on a standard desktop PC with Windows 7.  The slip printer works fine if I print to it from Notepad, and my application is happy to print to any other printer, just not the slip printer.
The slip printer is using the LPT port.  Previously the docket printers I've used have been USB but I would expect the printer driver to hide this detail from the application...
Any ideas would be much appreciated
    Cheers

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I've managed to sort out the problem, thanks to this KB article: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/67D60209102E2161862568AC0074BF64
I'm now having the same issue with a Star docket printer (a TUP592), this time with another program developed in LabVIEW 2011.
As mentioned in the article, the problem is actually to do with the margin settings rather than the printer name, despite what the error message says
After some experimentation, I've gotten the Star printer to work by setting a large (>14cm) right margin.  No idea why this is required as it seems to print right up to the right edge of the paper quite happily, but there you go.
So I haven't defintely fixed the original problem yet as I haven't gotten back to the site, but hopefully this will be of some help to someone else.

  • Report generation toolkit with excel 97 Graphing issue

I am trying to set-up mu data output to use the report generation Vis. However I am running into a problem when trying to update 2 graphs on the same sheet in Excel.
    My set-up is:
    Windows XP
    Office 97
LabVIEW 7.1.1 with the Office toolkit installed
I noticed that I can write to the first Graph and update it without issues, but once I try to update the second I get error -41105 stating that MSGraph is not installed.
I did notice that if I set a break point between the Excel Quit Graph.vi and Excel Update Graph.vi if I click the mouse within excel in removes the highlight border from the first graph, the I continue and it works fine. For some reason LabVIEW is not releasing that Graph to be able to select another.
I tried to write data to a cell after quiting the graph and then selecting the second graph but that is not working either although it does work manually.
Next I may try a Macro but I would rather not have to do that.
    Any suggestions?

Well after some debugging I found it. Apparently for Excel 97 only there is a problem that when you qiut MSGraph it may not save properly so the VI had the Quit Property removed.
I have added it into my code and it seems to work and will see how well it does and if I run into any problems.

  • How to use Real time execution trace toolkit with Dual-core processor??

    hi there
    the situation as follows:
i have a computer (PC and Laptop) types with Dual-core processors, and am trying to do simulation using Multi-core technology and based on different simulation scenarios...starting from sequantial processing,.......Piple lining processing strategy. so that i can differentiate the time delay between those types of processing based on (Using 1 processor then dual-core processor Computers)
my question is: As i read through Ni's white papers i saw many notes refer to Real-time execution trace toolkit to investigate the (processing-time , etc) of multi-core processors in processing diffenent algorithms. My algorithms are to be run on 1 computer with dual-core processor BUT, not in real time environments, that is ( No hardware to be connected to my pc) only algorithms running on my pc....
So, is it possible to use Real time execution trace toolkit  or anyother tools in LabVIEW to show processing-delays and/or anyother timing critical issues without using my application for  real- time hardware.???
in other words: how to use Real time execution trace toolkit  in non-hardware and/or real-time scenarios???
    please help me in this.
Any suggestion, comments, feedback.....is absolutely highly appreciated
    thanks a lot in advance
    Labview Lover

    Hey,
The Realtime Execution Trace Toolkit only works for NI RT Targets.
But you can use the Desktop Execution Trace Toolkit, just search for it under ni.com.
