OAS 4.0.8.1 for RH Linux 6.1
Installation completed w/ no errors. Web Gui working... DAD setup... App setup...
Then I run:
owsctl start
I get this:
Starting ORB process...
waiting for ORB to be ready...
ORB is not responding. Please restart manually...
OWS-20214: The OAS processes can not be started, because the CORBA orb processes
can not be started.
Be sure to run OASROOT.sh **after** you finish installation. Linux as an OS does not allow SUID sticky bit on executables, and since OWSCTL requires it to run the below 1024 port services for www - you need root ownership....
Are you using the "hot-off-the-press" tarball?? The message ahead says that the older tarballs are faulty!!

OAS 4.0.8.1 for Linux: wrksf goes down
After having installed the OAS 4.0.8.1 for
Linux, I have a problem getting it to work.
I use the OAS Manager to start the following
four processes :
oassrv "Oracle Application Server"
wrksf "Cartridge Server Factory"
otsfacsrv "Transaction Server Factory"
orb "ORB Servers"
The four processes come up, but after a
minute or so the 'wrksf' process goes
down.
After restarting the wrksf in
command line mode (using the owsctl utility)
the same occurs: it stays up for about a
minute or so, and then goes down.
The log files don't show any error messages.
Does anybody have a clue in which direction
I should search ?
Can any tracing be turned on ?After I fixed some of the things I broke while searching for the wrksf failure, the PL/SQL Cartridge now works for me too. And, after failing to get the DB Browser to work by loading it into the SCOTT schema, I got it to work by loading it into SYS. (SCOTT can't see the DBA_* views so loading the DB Browser into the database failed.) I haven't tried any Java Servlets yet, but that's next on my list.
If you want to try my wrksf workaround, rather than using Christoph's, here's how you can do it.
1. Backup liborb.so in the $ORACLE_HOME/orb/4.0/lib directory, just in case something goes wrong.
2. Using a hex editor, such as emacs hexl-find-file or ghex, to edit liborb.so, find the string "/proc/stat".
3. Change the directory, "/proc" to something like "/pfoo" and write the shared library file back to liborb.so. You now have the required modified liborb.so.
4. Make the /pfoo directory and cp /proc/stat /pfoo.
5. Edit /pfoo/stat and duplicate the first line, which should be the cpu line. This will let the metrics parser handle it. Make sure that /pfoo/stat has read access.
Of course, the values that the metrics code gets are now bogus, but that does not seem to be a fatal problem.
Hopefully somebody from Oracle is reading this and the real fix will be in the mail soon. -
How to get a bootable vhd for a Linux on Hyper-V with two disks ?
Hi folks,
I am running a custom linux on my Hyper-V in Windows Server 2008 R2. I initially configured one disk(4GB) and then I added one more hard disk of higher capacity (8GB). Now I got two vhd files with different sizes.
If I want to create a new linux VM (with two hard disks as original), with an existing vhd file, which one can I use?
I tried the first one, but it is not working as expected.
Is there any other way to get a bootable vhd file for a linux VM with two hard disks?
Any tools to make it?
Thanks in advance,
SaleemHi Tim,
Thanks for your response. I am rephrasing my question and requirement again.
I need to create a pre-configured Virtual Machine package(something like OVA in ESXi) in Hyper-V. This package should have disk, memory and network configs.
These are the steps I performed:
1. I created a Linux VM with a single 4GB disk.
2. I added another 80GB SCSI disk.
3. Now I got two .vhd files with 108MB and 80GB sizes
When I tried to create a new VM using VHD file, I was able to give one VHD file as input and selected 108MB VHD file for my VM.
With this VM got created but with only one disk of size 4GB. I need to add a new disk manually to get two disks.
My requirement is to create a VM with two/more disks using one VHD file without any manual input.
In other words, I need to create a pre-configured VM package (Similar to OVA) that could be used to create a VM with two or more disks.
This single package file could be given to users, so that they can deploy a similar VM as defined in the package file.
When we create VM using ESXi OVA file, we get the configured number of disks.
What is the similar packaging mechanism in Hyper-V?
Does Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008/2012 and SCVMM 2008/2012 support OVF/OVA to export and import?
Thanks,
Saleem -

Differences between Oracle 8i for a UNIX Platform and Oracle 8i for a Linux Platform
Hello,
J would like to know if there are some differences between Oracle 8i for a UNIX Platform and Oracle 8i for a Linux Platform.
I know that there are some differences on Oracle 8i Parallel Server and i know that some products are not include like precompiler (Mod*Ada, Pro*FORTRAN) on a Linux Platform.
Thank you.We have installed Oracle 8i on Solaris 8 and it had a great performance, of course that the hardware and licence invested here was costed my the office where i work. Personaly i'd installed linux reh hat 8 and oracle 8i, imagine that, it could be implemented by any individual that has the time to do so.
By buyinng from a company that has a good background you could be sure that you will have support.
Bottom line, if you have the $ to buy great hardware go for a unix platform. But if you don't a Red Hat Linux Server Licence with a 1 year sopport and Oracle data base is about 3500Dls.

Where to download and how to install X Window System for Oracle Linux 5 ?
Folks,
Hello. I am using Oracle Linux 5 and Oracle Database 11g for PIA.
Before install Oracle DB 11g into Oracle Linux 5, we need to install X Window System according to the document page 2 http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32285.pdf
But I don't know where to download and how to install X Window System for Oracle Linux 5.
Can any folk provide a link to download X Window System and tutorial to install it for Oracle Linux 5 ?You can address the problem in a number of different ways.
You can install X-windows from the installation DVD or setup access to the Oracle public software repository as described in http://public-yum.oracle.com. In which case, the command to install X-windows is: yum groupinstall "X Window System"
Or, you login remotely and and use SSH with X-forwarding, in which case the software on the server will use the X-Windows server on your client system. This is probably the preferred way since you do not have X-windows installed on the server. For more details about SSH forwarding and howto, please see Install Oracle 11gR2 on Ubuntu Linux 11.04 (64-bit) Howto part 2 Oracle Universal Installer. -
Adobe acrobat for unix/linux
hello, I can't seem to find any downloadable trial adobe acrobat 3.x for unix/linux in the download page.
can anyone provide me the correct link to download it? many thanks!
also I need to convert PDF version from 1.2 to 1.4 in Linux environment. Can anyone suggest suitable product that I can use? Thanks! There are a lot of differences going from PDF 1.2 to PDF 1.4. But
these are all extra things that MIGHT appear. Every PDF 1.2 file is a
valid PDF 1.4 file, and the idea of converting them really makes no
sense from a practical or administrative point of view. (Of course,
if you had PDF 1.4 files and th company standard was PDF 1.2 it would
be a different story).
Adobe have some Linux software. For example, FrameMaker and the
Distiller Server product.

Oracle 11gR2 certification for Oracle Linux 6
Hello,
According to Oracle documentation, database certification and support for Oracle 11gR2 under Oracle Linux starts with 11.2.0.3.
I was wondering if this might have anything to do with the i386 software prerequisites. Speaking of Oracle 11gR2 x86_64, the need for i386 libraries was removed with 11gR2 11.2.0.2. Or in other words, one can go straight to 11.2.0.2 without the need to install any 32-bit libraries.
Under Oracle Linux 5 x86_64, the "oracle-validated" package triggers the installation of several i386 packages. Under Oracle Linux 6 x86_64, the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package uses x86_64 only. Under Oracle Linux 6, i386 changed to i686.
For what it's worth, I have installed Oracle 11gR2 database 11.2.0.1 under Oracle Linux 6.1 to 6.3, both x86_64, simply by using the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package, and so far have not noticed any problems. Is there some information available, why 11.2.0.1 (x86_64) should not be used or is not certified for Oracle Linux 6 (x86_64)?
Thanks.I was afraid of that. Since the question is Oracle Linux 6 specific, I thought I'd try my luck here, thinking that if I get an answer, then probably here. Maybe it was not very realistic to get an answer anyway.
For what it's worth. Using "oracle-validated" under Oracle Linux 5, and "oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall" under Oracle Linux 6, I was able to install Oracle 11gR2 11.2.0.1 just fine, both platforms x86_64 and 32-bit. I have not found any operational issues yet and it seems to run perfectly well.
The only trouble I had was with Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.1, and here 11.2.0.3 is indeed required for it to install. I made a custom patch, just a few lines and after that 11.2.0.1, both x86_64 and 32-bit installed just fine and is fully operational.
I'm though I could post the patch. I guess it might make those people happy who do not have access to Oracle support and download 11.2.0.3. The patch will allow them to use the 11gR2 OTN version and install it under Oracle Linux 6. It won't be certified, but it is good enough for the purpose of education.
I'm closing the thread. -

CVE-2014-6271 and CVE-2014-7169 Patch Availability Document for Oracle Linux
Hi,
Can you suggest from where we need to download bash rpm for OEL 6 :-
bash-4.1.2-15.el6_5.2.x86_64.rpm
bash-doc-4.1.2-15.el6_5.2.x86_64.rpm
Thanks in Advance !!
MukeshFirst see the document I linked about creating a local yum mirror (How to Create a Local Yum Repository for Oracle Linux). I very strongly recommend setting this up so your systems can get other updates besides bash.
The individual RPMs can be found at Index of /repo/OracleLinux/OL6/latest/x86_64/ -- but I cannot stress the importance of updating entire systems rather than just bash. If you are not updating your systems periodically, bash is just one of your worries (as you're undoubtedly vulnerable to hundreds of other exploits in other packages besides Shellshock). Please set up an update repository and use it.
Patching only the vulnerabilities you see in the news is equivalent to locking your home's front door, but leaving the security alarm disconnected and the back door held open with a doorstop. You need all the updates, not just bash. -
Show Running Rules and Monitors for this Health Service task for Unix/Linux agents?
I know there is a way to do this for Windows agents, but is there a way to do this for Unix/Linux agents? When I click on the agent I dont see the option in the task pane. Is there something else that I can use?
If you're going to answer my question with pretentiousness or disrespect, move on to another question. I don't need your help. Thank youFigure it out after some digging

Adobe livecycle for ubuntu linux
adobe livecycle for ubuntu linux pls
This is not officialy supported to run LiveCycle ES/ES2 on any linux distribution but Enterprise Red Hat or SUSE Linux. But this does not mean this is not gonna run on Ubuntu.
I've tested LiveCycle ES2 using Glassfish and Geronimo as application servers, that are not officially suported, and that works.
For testing/developing purposes, i think you may use Ubuntu, but if you run in troubles you wont get support from Adobe.
Do not try any unsupported platform for production environments. -
Error: Unable to find sources for current Linux Kernel
Hi Guys,
Hit a bump !!!!
Oracle Linux x86-64 installed successfully via Oracle VM box.
Clicked on 'Install Guest Additions'.
Ran VboxLinuxAdditions.run to install the Guest machine on Linux. It Failed and in error log (/var/log/vboxinstall.log) got the below error:-
Error: Unable to find sources for current Linux Kernel. Specify KERN_DIR=<directory> and run again
Looking upto Google i found I need to update Linux headers , in doing so get +'bash: apt-get : command not found'+ which I am not able to understand.
Any assistance is appreciated.
CheersThanks for the information. I was able to resolve it though.
Ran +'yum install gcc kernel-devel kernel-headers'+
Hence my query is resolved now.
Just one question - I need to copy text from Windows to Linux Terminal. Is there a command I can type into Linux terminal to enable copy paste from Windows to Linux and vice-versa ?
Cheers. -
Basic installation: X11 for Oracle Linux 6.3
Hi All,
I created Oracle VM and installed Linux 6.3 as operation system. First try with X Windows and X11 shows, that I can not start X-Appse.g. xclock --> command not found!
How can I correct install oderwise configure X11 for Oracle Linux 6.3
Regards,
MohI guess Oracle VM VirtualBox and Oracle VM can be misleading. Oracle should better call it Oracle Virtualbox, without VM in the name. Fyi: http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/oraclevm/index.html
Anyway, a default installation of Oracle Linux or RHEL 6 does not install the X Window system and a graphical user desktop. If you want to run X11 applications you have 2 options:
- Use remote access from a system that has X Window server installed
- Install X Window and a window manager on your virtual machine.
If this is a new installation and you use it locally then I suggest to re-install the system and customize the package selection. You should see a prompt "customize now" during the installation where you can select the Desktop packages. -

Edited by: 968495 on 30/10/2012 10:17All 10g oracle is under extended support, the XE 10g version was yanked from the download pages at about the time 10g went Extended.
Probably won't be able to get a download from anywhere under oracle.com but there might be a few sites that still have it hosted. Try google.
