OBIApps - 11.1.1.7 Fact table joining to time Dim by default

Hi,
I am trying to pull a column only from the Fact table F1 and not pulling any Dimension columns into the report criteria. But when I run the results and look for the physical SQL, BI is joining the Time dimension table to the Fact table. Does any one know where this is being enforced in the BIAPPS RPD?
Thanks!!

Did you used only fact table for report and it joins with dimensional table at answers ?

  • "Factless" fact table join warning

We have a physical fact table that only contains keys for a given day in order to track changes to Employment history over time. The compensation "facts" are contained in a dimension that is joined to the factless physical table in the logical layer. I use the factless fact as the table source and inner join it to the dimension to create the logical fact source. This seems to be working fine, but is creating a warning when I check consistency: "There are physical table sources mapped in Logical Table Source [...] that are not used in any column mappings or expressions." Is there a better way to model this in the logical layer that this warning is trying to alert me to?
    Thanks!

    Thank you,
The error does go away when I insert into the logical fact table the key from the factless physical table. The error is gone whether or not I define the physical column as the Logical fact table key. Will defining it as a logical key change anything?
I am curious as to why it would want me to include a field in the fact table that will never be used in the presentation layer. Is the warning mainly for accidental inclusion of physical tables that aren't used?
Thank you for the response. Nice blog by the way.

  • Common diemsions and more then one fact table join problem

    Hi,
I have 5 common dimension and 3 fact table which in the same subject area. When I want to display results from more then one fact table sending database then query more then one and I think BI server join this two different result on OBI server. But I think if obi server sending database query for exp. WITH SAWITH0 .... the results get effective.

I find solution on Oracle® Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Release Notes.
If you use a version of Oracle Database 10g Release 2 prior to 10.2.0.3, then you might encounter an issue with a Full Outer Join that causes severe database performance issues and appears to hang the database when the Oracle BI Server sends to the database SQL queries that include WITH clauses.
To work around this issue when using Oracle Database 10g Release 1 or 2, upgrade to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Patch Set 2 (for 10.2.0.3). For performance reasons, this is the preferred workaround.
To work around this issue without installing Patch Set 2, modify the Database Features table using the Administration Tool. This configuration prevents the Oracle BI Server from sending SQL constructs that expose the issue in an unpatched Oracle Database 10g.
To modify the Database Features table:
In the Administration Tool, open the properties of the Physical Database metadata object.
    Navigate to the Features tab.
Ensure the values for the PERF_PREFER_MINIMAL_WITH_USAGE and PERF_PREFER_INTERNAL_STITCH_JOIN entries are selected, that is, set to True.

  • Multiple Date Fields (Fact Table) - Linking with Time Dimension

I have a fact table that has multiple date columns.
I can make a time dimension, but it has to be joined to a particular date column. This becomes difficult because of the limit in having multiple date fields reference one time dimension. I can see possibly
creating a date table which contains all dates, link to fact as well as time dimension table. I am trying to better visualize the table layout on this one. Or are there possibily better ways of looking at this senerio

  • Fact table with 2 time keys, measures showing together in the same report

    Hello,
I am using OBI EE and I have the following scenario: a fact table hold information about enquiries. An enquiry may or may not generate an appointment. So in my fact table I have two date columns: enquiry date and appointment booked date (not the date of the appointment itself, but when it was actually booked).
This raises a couple of questions. First question is: I can only have one logical FK to the Times table, how to create two LFKs for those 2 dates? Should I create a logical copy of the Times table in the BMM, along with another time dimension?
Second question is how to display both pieces of data in the same report. For instance, in a summary report per month I want to see the number of enquiries made and appointments booked in each month. Most likely they will be different numbers and refer to different rows in the database. What is the best way to model this in the BMM?
For instance, in October there were 10 enquiries, 8 of them were converted into appointments along with 3 enquires made in September. So, the report should show for October: number of enquires: 10, number of appointments: 11 (8 from October + 3 from September)
Sorry if this is a basic question but I couldn't find around any examples of this scenario.
    Thanks,
    Luis

    Genius, that works perfectly, thanks!
Just one issue that I noticed... I have other dimensions on that fact table, one of them is "channel". Channel is linked to a column in the original fact table, as is Number of Enquiries.
If I include Channel in a report that shows Number of Enquiries and Number of Appointments, the Number of Appointments column only shows zeros, while the Number of Enquiries column still shows the correct numbers:
    Month    Channel   Enquiries   Appointments
    Jan 09   Email      100           0
             Phone      120           0
    Feb 09   Email       87           0
...Then I figured out that I needed to add a PFK for all dimensions to the aliased fact table, not only for the times dimension.
    Thanks again

  • How to display a description in fact table from an unrelated DIM table in powerpivot?

    Hello,
I have two tables in powerpivot 2010: 1 that is my fact and the is unrelated. I'm relatively new to SQL and powerpivot.
What I need to do is display a description from my DIM table based on a column in my fact. Is this possible? In my fact, I
have  a ReasonID, the DIM has the ReasonID and description. I just need the description added in my fact as a new /
    another column. Thanks. John

    Hello,
When you have the same column in both tables, then they are related, even if in database no primary / foreign key is defined. In PowerPivot we can define additional / manual relation, just Change to "Diagram View" and define the relation like below:
But if you still want the "Dim description" as a computed column in your fact table, then you can use the
    LOOKUPVALUE function
    =LOOKUPVALUE(Dim01[Description], Dim01[ReasonId], Fact01[ReasonId])

  • Joining two fact tables for subject area

When I tried to use two simple fact tables joined by a dimension, I am getting the “ No fact table exists at the requested level of detail” error in the answer when I try to pull the columns from Fact 1 and Fact 2 tables. I have set the content in both the fact table to lowest granularity of dimension with CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID keys. We have one to many relationships between dimension and both the fact tables. Any feedback is highly cherished.
    Fact1: keys are: CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID, YEAR
    Fields are CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID, YEAR , Rev1, Transaction Date
    Fact2: keys are: CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID, YEAR
    Fields are CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID, YEAR , Rev2, CreationDate
    Dimension keys are CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID

    Hi LC,
We have to add two fact tables F1 AND F2 to an existing bmm. These fact tables have history tables F11 AND F22 and we have to use partition logic for this. How you did partition ? you should be using Fragmentation logic for that any how you will add the F11/F22 tables to F1 and F2 LTS , so when you join F1 & F2 to the common dimension then it should work for the calucluated measures but dont forgot to create hierarchies and specify the content levels for the fact tables

Back up your repository before following these steps:
1 Reduce the problem report to minimum number of columns required to generate the error. This will usually identify which dimension and which fact are incompatible.
2 Open the repository in the Administration tool and verify that the dimension and fact table join at the physical layer of the repository
3 Verify that there is a complex join between the dimension and the fact in the business layer.
4 Check the logical table sources for the fact table. At least one of them must have the Content tab set to a level in the hierarchy that represents the problem dimension. This is usually the detailed level.
5 Check the logical table source Content tab for the dimension table. Unless there is a valid reason, this should be set to blank.

  • Distinct count for multiple fact tables in the same cube

I'm fairly new to working with SSAS, but have been working with DW environments for many years.
I have a cube which has 4 fact tables.  The central fact table is Encounter and then I also have Visit, Procedure and Medication.  Visit, Procedure and Medication all join to Encounter on Encounter Key.  The relationship between Encounter
and Procedure and Encounter and Medication are both an optional 1 to 1.  The relationship between Encounter and Visit is an optional 1 to many.
Each of the fact tables join to the Patient dimension on the Patient Key.  The users are looking for a distinct count of patients in all 4 fact tables.
What is the best way to accomplish this so that my cube does not talk all day to process?  Please let me know if you need any more information about my cube in order to answer this.
    Thanks for the help,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
Each distinct count measure cause an ORDER BY clause in the SELECT sent to the relational data source during processing. In SSAS 2005 or later, it creates a new measure group for each distinct count measure(it's a technique strategy for improving perormance).
Besides, please take a look at the following distinct count optimization techniques:
    Create Customized Aggregations
    Define a Processing Plan
    Create Partitions of Equal Size
Use Partitions Comprised of a Distinct Range of Integers
Distribute the Hash of Your UserIDs
    Modulo Function

    Choose a Partitioning Strategy

  • NQSError: 14020  : Fact Table Incompatible with Query Request

    Hi All,
I am trying to add a new join to existing fact and dimension tables.
These tables are already part of some star schemas.
Now when I add the join , RPD doesn't show any consistency errors/warnings but when I create an analysis in OBIEE 11g, Measure from fact shows only null.
When I looked at the log, the physical query just has a select statement querying the dimension table and following message :
"COUNT converted to NULL because [nQSError: 14020] None of the fact tables are compatible with the query request COUNT:[DAggr(CF_FACT1.COUNT by [ CD_DATE_4.DATE_KEY.. "
Has anyone encountered similar problem ?
Few threads spoke about settign the content level but its not set for any date dimension we are using but it still works. Facing this problem only for the new join I am trying to add now.
    Thanks for any pointers

  • Star schema without a fact table?

    Hi,
I'm preparing my warehouse for using with Discoverer and my question is about the star schema.
    - Is a star schema directly associated with data warehouse?
    - Can I talk about a star schema if a) I do not have a fact table (no summarized values) and b) if I do not have a dimension of time?
The problem is, I'm thinking of usine Discoverer but should I use it if it's not connected to a data warehouse?
As I told, I'd like to modelized my data "like" a star schema but my "center table" will contain only the foreign key of my dimensions; no time dimensions, no aggregate data in the center table (fact table).
Is there another word for the model I'd like to do?
    Thank in advance.

    Hi,
Is a star schema directly associated with data warehouse? Not really, a star schema is just one where there is one large fact table joined to many smaller dimension tables using key fields. You usually see this in data warehouses.
Can I talk about a star schema if a) I do not have a fact table (no summarized values) and b) if I do not have a dimension of time?A star schema must have a fact table but it doesn't need contain summarised values or a time dimension.
You can use Discoverer with any Oracle database, it doesn't have to be a data warehouse.

  • Confirmed Dimensions. OBIEE Not able to pull data from two fact tables.

    Hi Experts,
I have a very simple set up of Star Schema with two fact tables and 1 dimension. Both fact tables joined to the dimension at the same level.
When i pull a column from both fact tables and the dimension table in OBIEE, it has to create simple SQL like below:
    select FACT1.column1,
    Fact2.Column1,
    Dim.Column1
    from FACT1, FACT2, DIM
    where FACT1.ID = DIM.ID and FACT2.ID = DIM.ID
but instead it creating a query in a very complex way:
select case  when D1.c2 is not null then D1.c2 when D2.c2 is not null then D2.c2 end  as c2,
         D1.c1 as c3,
         D2.c1 as c4
    from
         (select FACT1.Column1 as c1,
                   DIM.Column1 as c2
              from
                   DIM T1287863,
                   FACT1 T1287945
       where  (DIM.ID = FACT1.ID)
           ) D1 full outer join (
            select FACT2.Column1 as c1,
                   DIM.Column1 as c2
              from
                   DIM,
                   FACT2
              where  ( DIM.ID = FACT2.ID)
         ) D2 On isnull(D1.c2 , '1') = isnull(D2.c2 , '1') and isnull(D1.c2 , '2') = isnull(D2.c2 , '2')
I even tried setting the levels for both the fact tables and it still creates the query in avove way. Any thoughts on this will be vary helpful.

see below the code we're using for the RFM.
on the ct_containers table i'm passing a line, and its getting updated after the call.
on the ct_errors table i just want to receive the errors and i only receive the line, we add manually there ('Serious error with validation code').

  • OBIEE - Fact Tables

    Hi,
Do all columns in a fact table in the BMM have to contain measures(e.g. count, sum). Is it possible to also store columns containing data or do measures have to map with dimensions. I have a fact table joining 4 dimensions, the fact contains only 4 measures(count) but these do no synchronize with the dimensions when running a report in answers.

    Hi,
I checked the physical query in NQQuery.log:
    select T18034.CHO_TEAM as c1,
    count(T18037.CHO_TEAM) as c2
    from
    Workflow_Cho_Team T18034,
    Workflow_Fact T18037
    where ( T18034.CHO_TEAM = T18037.CHO_TEAM )
    group by T18034.CHO_TEAM
    order by c1
I also checked the logical SQL in answers(Advanced):
SELECT "Workflow Cho Team"."Team Name" saw_0, "Workflow Fact"."Total Cho Team" saw_1
FROM "HCBF Applications" ORDER BY saw_0
Workflow Cho Team is the dimension
Workflow Fact(containing aggregate item) is the fact
A foreign key has been defined between the two tables in the physical layer.
I am still unclear as to why the results are incorrect in answers?
    Thanks

  • OBIEE Hitting incorrect fact table

    Hi,
I have two Fact tables joined with 3 Dimensions..
    F1 - D1, D2, D3
    F2 - D1, D2, D3
Now I added another dimension D4 and joined it with F2.
While taking D1, D2 D3 while it use to get F1 in the Query now, it started taking F2 and showing incorrect results.. How can this be fixed?

Dont blame OBIEE!! You haven't configured it correctly.
Try to set implicit fact column setting on Subject area. That might help you.

  • Master tables  & fact tables

    Hi
Can anyone explain the following in detail.
Mater tables an fact tables are linked with Dim id's.
Fact table and dim tables are linked with Sid id's or Sid keys.
    Thanks in advance
    Satya

    Hi Satya,
The Fact table and Dimension tables are linked through the Dim Ids. The Dim Id, as the key of a Dimension table, represents a unique combination of char values in that Dim. These DIM Ids then combine to produce a unique combination in the Fact table of the cube.
Each char value stored in teh system is assigned a Sid, and in a dimension table the unique combination of Sids (depending on the char values in the data records) creates a DIM id.
Take a look at this link:

    Hope this helps...
