OBIEE 11g Admin Tool aggregating measure columns

I have a few meausre columns that are in my logical table. I would like to sum the measure columns but I can't figure out how. When I create another logical table only the physical columns would show up but no measure/calculated columns. What do I need to do?
Thank you in advance

  • Connection Failed in OBIEE 11g Admin tool

    Hi,
I have virtual image V305 of OBIEE on linux x86-64. It is working fine but I was not able to access Admintool from linux m/c.
So I have installed OBIEE 11g client on windows XP. It is showing all the subject area & tables. But when I am importing any table from my DB, it is giving error "Connection has failed". I have done tnsname.Ora file in both folder Oracle client & OBIEE client
Please help me as soon as possible.
    Thanks

I've found a work around for using tnsnames:
put the following string in "Data Source" and it works
    (DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <your host>)(PORT = 1521))(CONNECT_DATA =(SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = <your database>)))
Can you please refer below links for more methods.

What could be the possible reason for this? Where to check?

Thanks in advanceIf you restart the service the problem would resolve but every time its not a good idea to bounce the services the problem is with cache/queries stores in nqquery.log have a script to clear the cache files periodically
upgrade to 11.1.1.6.2 the problem is fixed

  • OBIEE Error[14041] Nested Aggregation measure are currently not supported

    Hi,
Please provide workaround for the OBIEE Error[14041] Error in measure definiion. Nested aggregation measures are currently not supported.
I have two logical columns - Current YTD Invoice Quantity and Prior YTD Invoice Price. I want to create a column which is -
(Current YTD Invoice Quantity * Prior YTD Invoice Price)/ sum(Current YTD Invoice Quantity * Prior YTD Invoice Price)
sum in the denominator should be the sum of all rows returned by the report. So level based measures cannot be used as there are multiple report and dimension used may vary.
Columns Current YTD Invoice Quantity and Prior YTD Invoice Price are already aggregated to Sum.
If I try to do the sum on the physical column while creating logical column, the query is running for 6-7 hours and not giving any result. Both the columns belong to different alias table in physical layer.
Please let me know if you guys know any work around for this issue. Also let me know whether this type of nested aggregation are supported in 11g or not?
    Thanks.

    Hi Adil,
Yes, I did create a hierarchy for the time dimesion.
No, I was not able to specify the aggregate rule since the source of the logical column is another logical column
But the time hierarchy works for rows that is not based upon the SUM aggregate at the answers level.
Say I have 3 columns: Income,Expense, Bottom Line (formula : Income- Expense)
Income is created based upon a case statement in the Logical Column and
Expense is also created based upon a case statement in the Logical Column.
    Income 1000 Rupees
    Expense -300 Rupees
Bottom Line 700 Rupees (where the Bottom line is a row based upon the Answers aggregate formula
    which is SUM(Income+Expense))
When I add a column year, I get the following output
    Income 2009 500 Rs
    Income 2008 500 Rs
    Expense 2009 -150 Rs
    Expense 2008 -150 Rs
    Bottom Line 2009 700 Rs
    Bottom Line 2008 700 Rs
The Bottom Line doesn't spread across the Year
Hope this helps you to understand what my problems is.
    Thank you!

  • OBIEE 11g - serious problem when rotating columns into "table prompt" area

Hi, I'm hitting an OBIEE 11g issue that's causing huge problems on reports. Essentially, the problem is this - if I dump all the columns of a query to a table, everything looks fine. But if I rotate one of the columns into the "table prompts" area, OBIEE is actually resubmitting a WRONG query. The query format changes from:
    WITH
    SAWITH0 AS (select sum(T38965.ORIGINAL_BUDGET) as c1,
    T12637.ORG_ID_DESC as c2

    GL_ANALYTICS.DIM_ORG T12637,

    D1.c3 as c3
    from
    SAWITH2 D1
    order by c1, c2 ) D1 where rownum <= 65001
I completely do not understand what is going on here. The second query has a ton of problems. First off, it's doing some type of UNION operation - no idea why it's doing that. And the real problem is that it's unioning results from a different fact table, FACT_LEDGER_period instead of FACT_LEDGER_ytd, which is completely screwing up our results.
Long and short, I simply don't understand at all why the query should change just from rotating a column up into the table prompt area.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
I see the query to be valid with each CTE doing the following Jobs.....
    1. I understand that this particular query is being generated to get the unique "ORG_ID_DESC " to fill up the table prompts.
    SAWITH0 AS (select distinct T12637.ORG_ID_DESC as c1
    from
    GL_ANALYTICS.DIM_ACCOUNT T12582,
    GL_ANALYTICS.DIM_ORG T12637,
    GL_ANALYTICS.DIM_ACCOUNTING_PERIOD T12597,
    GL_ANALYTICS.FACT_LEDGER T38927 / FACT_LEDGER_period /
    where ( T12582.ACCOUNT_KEY = T38927.ACCOUNT_KEY and T12597.ACCOUNTING_PERIOD = T38927.ACCOUNTING_PERIOD and T12597.FISCAL_YEAR = T38927.FISCAL_YEAR and T12582.STATEMENT_TYPE_CODE = 'Income Statement' and T12597.ACCOUNTING_PERIOD = 11 and T12597.FISCAL_YEAR = 2012 and T12637.ORG_KEY = T38927.ORG_KEY and T38927.ACCOUNTING_PERIOD = 11 and T38927.FISCAL_YEAR = 2012 and (T12637.DEPARTMENT_CODE_DESC in ('D0200 - Arts Administration', 'D0206 - Film Studies')) ) )
    2. This particular query is to get each prompt value and its corresponding data
    SAWITH1 AS (select sum(T38965.ORIGINAL_BUDGET) as c1,
    T12637.ORG_ID_DESC as c2
    from
    GL_ANALYTICS.DIM_ACCOUNT T12582,
    GL_ANALYTICS.DIM_ORG T12637,
    GL_ANALYTICS.DIM_ACCOUNTING_PERIOD T12597,
    GL_ANALYTICS.FACT_LEDGER T38965 / FACT_LEDGER_ytd /
    where ( T12582.ACCOUNT_KEY = T38965.ACCOUNT_KEY and T12582.STATEMENT_TYPE_CODE = 'Income Statement' and T12597.ACCOUNTING_PERIOD = 11 and T12597.FISCAL_YEAR = T38965.FISCAL_YEAR and T12597.FISCAL_YEAR = 2012 and T12637.ORG_KEY = T38965.ORG_KEY and T38965.FISCAL_YEAR = 2012 and (T12637.DEPARTMENT_CODE_DESC in ('D0200 - Arts Administration', 'D0206 - Film Studies')) and T12597.ACCOUNTING_PERIOD >= T38965.ACCOUNTING_PERIOD )
    group by T12637.ORG_ID_DESC)
    3. This particular query, I understand is to get the following data (Sample data) relating the prompts and their corresponding data
    column (c1) ;column (c2 ie ORG_ID_DESC); column(C3 ie sum(T38965.ORIGINAL_BUDGET))
    0;               ORG_ID_DESC1; NULL
    1;               ORG_ID_DESC1;10
    0;               ORG_ID_DESC2;NULL
    1;               ORG_ID_DESC2;40
    0;               ORG_ID_DESC3;NULL
    1;               ORG_ID_DESC3;29.8
    SAWITH2 AS ((select distinct 0 as c1,
    D1.c1 as c2,
    cast(NULL as DOUBLE PRECISION ) as c3
    from
    SAWITH0 D1
    union all
    select distinct 1 as c1,
    D1.c2 as c2,
    D1.c1 as c3
    from
    SAWITH1 D1))
    4. The last select statement does nothing but selecting the needed data which later gets arranged in the format as needed by the OBIPS
    select D1.c1 as c1, D1.c2 as c2, D1.c3 as c3 from ( select D1.c1 as c1,
    D1.c2 as c2,
    D1.c3 as c3
    from
    SAWITH2 D1
    order by c1, c2 ) D1 where rownum <= 65001
Now, on the table being chosen for picking up "ORG_ID_DESC" might be pretty much depending on the best source available as you know. If you would like BI Server to pick up any particular source, probably you could try the "LTS Priority Group" way.
Hope I was clear and it helps.
    Thank you,
    Dhar

  • Unable to import metadata using OBI 11g Admin tool

    Hello folks,
I am new to OBI. I am trying to build a RPD. For that purpose I am trying to import some tables from database but I am unable to. I created DSN and also tried using OCI but no help. The OBI Admin tool client and database is installed under other user's account. Is that the reason I am unable to import tables?
    I am getting this error:
Internal Error-Unable to initialize NLS during driver load - When I try to use ODBC &
Connection failed --When I try to use OCI.
Can someone shed some light on this issue.
    Thanks,

Use Call Interface: Default (OCI 10g/11g)
Data source Name->hostname:port/ServiceName or TNS name
    like
    localhost:1521/XE
make sure you able to ping connect the database using tnsentry or
    tnsping <tnsname>
    from command prompt.
Let me know for issues if helps pls mark

  • OBIEE 11g:  Use presentation variable in Column Heading

    Hi everyone,
I was playing around with sample app dashboards and I saw a dashboard prompt that they converted into a column selector. I liked it and reproduced it in my own sandbox.
I like the results, however, I would also like to change the column heading to clearly reflect which measure was selected. It's pretty clear when you are looking in the dashboard, but once you export the data, it can be confusing which measure was selected.
That is why I would like to use a presentation variable in the column heading section. I tried to do this but it interpreted it as a literal instead of evaluating the statement.
Is there anyway to get a variable in the column heading?
    Thanks!
    -Joe

    Hi,
Have a look at the following links:
    http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/01/25/oracle-bi-ee-101332-dynamic-column-headers-using-presentation-variables-sets-and-conditional-formatting/
show the presentation variable on table column header
Define presentation variable in column header
    hope it helps.

  • OBIEE BI Answers: Wrong Aggregation Measures on top level of hierarchy

    Hi to all,
I have following problem. I hope to be clear in my English because it's a bit complicated to explain.
    I have following fact table:
    Drug Id Ordered Quantity
    1 9
    2 4
    1 3
    2 2
    and following Drug Table:
Drug Brand Id Brand Description Drug Active Ingredient Id Drug Active Ingredient Description
    1 Aulin 1 Nimesulide
    2 Asprina 2 Acetilsalicilico
In AWM i've defined a Drug Dimension based on following hierarchy: Drug Active Ingredient (parent) - Drug Brand Description (leaf) mapped as:
Drug Active Ingredient = Drug Active Ingredient Id of my Drug Table (LONG DESCRIPTION Attribute=Drug Active Ingredient Description)
Drug Brand Description = Drug Brand Id of my Drug Table (LONG DESCRIPTION Attribute = Drug Brand Description)
Indeed in my cube I've mapped leaf level Drug Brand Description = Drug Id of my fact table. In AWM Drug Dimension is mapped as Sum Aggregation Operator
If I select on Answers Drug Active Ingredient (parent of my hierarchy) and Ordered Quantity I see following result
Drug Active Ingredient Description Ordered Quantity
    Acetilsalicilico 24
    Nimesulide 12
    indeed of correct values
Drug Active Ingredient Description Ordered Quantity
    Acetilsalicilico 12
    Nimesulide 6
EXACTLY the double!!!!!!! But if I drill down Drug Active Ingredient Description Acetilsalicilico I see correctly:
Drug Active Ingredient Description Drug Brand Description Ordered Quantity
    Acetilsalicilico
    - Aspirina 12
    Total 12
Wrong Aggregation is only on top level of hierarchy. Aggregation on lower level of hierarchy is correct. Maybe Answers sum also Total Row????? Why?????
I'm frustrated. I beg your help, please!!!!!!!!

    Hi,
Yes. same way works in obiee11g. Just install u r obiee admin client (now its available for win 32/64 bit) install and design RPD in windows environment then Using FTP via transfer this RPD to Linux and use it in Linux env

  • Weird behaviour of OBIEE 11g hierarchy columns

    Hi,
I'm facing this weird issue when i implement the OBIEE 11g new feature called hierarchy column. The issue is that the last value in the hierarchy is reporting
    Example
    Store Heir-achy
    ->Store Country
    ->Store City
    ->Store name
    ->Store Name
->Store name (And the level goes on and on).
I don't know why this weird thing is happening.Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sunny.

Thanks for the response, in regards to whether it is 1 or 2 Logical Facts, it is still the same behaviour. IN regards to the Logical Dimension, yes it is set with two LTS with the applicable content levels set. I even tried that as just 1 LTS doing the join through the General tab. Still the same behaviour with the drill-down. I am assuming it will always go through the full drill path regardless of what level the Fact you are hitting is at.

  • Obiee admin tool with Windows 8

    Hi,
is there way to run obiee client admin tool under windows 8?
    thanks

This installation will be logged here : \Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs\ check if its error'ing out or trace files will be helping.
No GUI when you running the runinstaller.exe and admin and compatible mode ? BTW What is your OS, Java and System config's
    Also read through : http://techforum4u.com/entry.php/3498-Solution-For-quot-OBIEE-11-1-1-6-Installation-Fails-or-Hangs-At-Configuration-Progress-Step-quot
I have not installed or tried installing on Windows 8 so i would say may be installing a oracle vm with downgraded os version of windows 7/below and run the OBI client installation or wait until Oracle releases a supported installer version.

  • Restrict OBIEE developers to login into OBIEE admin tool withAdministrator

I have developers with their own id's but with admin role assigned to them and If I remove the admin role from their id's they cannot login into OBIEE via admin tool in online mode to make any changes to the RPD.
Q is) Developers make changes to the rpd file in online mode but at the same time I dont want them to have the admin privileges like making changes to the security/connection pool entries so on. But they can make changes to the presentation layer or business model. If I remove the administrator role from their id's they cannot even open the rpd in online mode i.e they can't even login. How do I give the developers the control they need and at the same time lock down the admin related stuff from changes?
Also they cannot make the changes offline and they need to login and open the rpd online.

    Hi,
I think you can resolve this issue, by setting up a different application role for all of your developers (yes, with BIAdministrator privileges too). However, in the .rpd you could restrict the access to this role to the physical layer. Briefly, the steps are below
    1. Set up a new application role.
    2. In the .rpd Manage Identity -> application roles -> New role -> Properties -> Permissions -> Object Permissions.
    3. Set 'No Access' to all of your physical layer objects.
Hope this is what you are looking for.
    Thank you,
    Dhar

  • Open and connect in OBI 11.1.1.5 admin tool fowwoling OBE Upgrade

I installed OBI11.1.1.5 on Redhat 5.2 and the admin tool on a windows. In this two machine I have OBI 10 server and admin tool installed as well. The OBI 11 components are all up running as I can access them such as EM and represention service.
Following OBEhttp://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/bi/bi11115/upgrade/upgrade_to_11g.htm?print=preview#t3 .I upgraded our 10g rpd and catalog and see the repository saved in instance_home, and verified that the default is RPD sh20110903_BI002.
Next step in the OBE, I verify Reposiotory Metadata. I launched the admin tool, opened inline. In the generated dialog box, I entered the password in defined in the update script as Repository Password, and used weblogic login in User/Password. All other fields are blank. That is all I can do in the dialog box, but the Open buttone is always grey. I think at least one available repository should be listed in the list box at the bottom, but it was empty.
Then I tried to create a new repository. In step 2 Select Data Source, I choose ODBC 3.5 and use a valid system DSN, but got Error : The connection has failed.
I tried also use Connection Type OCI 10g/11g. IN the Data Source Name I used a valid netservice name defined in a Oracle client's Oracle_HOME. But still got Error : The connection has failed.
    Questions
    1) How can make the Open button active in the Open inline RPD dialog box?
    2) Why the valid System DSN failed to connect in 11g admin tool. It is OK in 10g admin tool and ODBC configure
    3) How to make Admin Too; sees the tnsnames definition. Should I copy the tnsnames.ora file to somewhere under Admin Tool installation directory?
    Many thanks.

Thanks. The post appares make sense. I opened my user.sh file and has 2 questions:
    1) There are 32bit section and 64 bit section, and it states that 32 bit server must work with 32 bit client, so is for 64 bit. In my case, the clients are most likely 32 bit windows (browsers and admin tool), but the server is installed on Redhat 64 bit. Is this a problem? How do I know if my OBIEE iis running 64 or 32 bit?
    2) All entries in the user.sh file are commented out. Then what file is used to in the current OBI11, it is started automatically after the installation.

  • In OBIEE 11g How to Change  Import Type Local Machine to Remote Machine

    Hi All,
I Have Installed OBIEE 11g Client tools in my Machine and server is in Other Server.when i tried to Import metadata i am getting Connection Falied error.
When i tried to import metadata in import type option i can see only one option Local Machine that is also in Disable mode.
how to make import type option to Remote.
    Thanks and Regards
    Kiran Kumar

In BI EE 10g, there was no Oracle Client bundled along with BI EE. So, BI EE will use your Oracle DB Home client to connect to the database. So, when you try to connect to the database through the Repository or BI Server, it will try to find the tnsnames entry in the Oracle Client of BI EE 11g instead of your database. There are 2 options to work around this
Copy your tnsnames.ora and Paste it to
    1. Drive:Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_BI1}network\admin
    2 Drive:Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common\network\admin
    TNS File like,
    DBName =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Your Server IP)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = DBName)
    Thanks,
