I like to know OBIEE Admin Tasks in Linux like how to move reports from DEV to UAT.

Hi,
As you know there are admin tools named:
- Catalog Manager
- Administration tool.
You can use there tools to connect to the repository through the network. So first install client tools on a developer or client computer. Then open the catalog manager and establish a connection to the Presentation Catalog on the DEV server. And open another catalog manager and login to the PROD, this time.
As a result, there will be 2 tools opened. You can just copy one item from DEV and paste it to PROD easily.

Patching OBIEE Admin tool to 11.1.1.6.1

Hi I've successfully patched my OBIEE server on linux to 11.1.1.6.1 but I still need to work on my client(Administration Tool) on Windows, which remains 11.1.1.6.0, does the full OBIEE server patch on Windows will work for my client only? Or is there a standalone patch for the Administration Tool.

Not able to login to BIP using OBIEE Admin credentials

hi,
I am not able to login into BI Publisher(http://<Server name>:7001/xmlpserver/) with my OBIEE Admin credentails. It throws an error "Unauthorized Access: please contact the administrator".
I have checked in console that this Admin User has been assigned to Administrators and BIAdministrators group.
Also I have a BISystemUser which is assigned to Administrators group.
Don't know why it is not working as similar User and group setting onto a different server works.

OBIEE 11g installing in Linux. domain creation error

Hi,
OBIEE 11g installing in Linux server now. domain creation is in progress for about an hour and in log I can see below error.
Creating a new AdminServer Object ...
AdminServer port is 7001
Starting the domain ...
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
domain creation is still running and looks like it is struck to start domain no idea how to solve the issue. waiting to see whether domain creation successful.
Please let me know how to fix this issue.

Hi,
Have you try to increase MaxPermSize, it may occure memory issue.
change the Middleware/ORACLE_BI1/oui/oraparam.ini and fine it like below
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m" then try to change it
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=2048m"
(i.e:It will increase the numbers for allocating more memory) then save it and then try to run config.bat (software only/enterprise) method and configure it.

we had run the scripts using nohup "nohup ./startWeblogicServer.sh &" and reopened putty to run other nodemanager and opmnctl scripts, now everything has started and working fine.

The sun-appserv-admin task doesn't support

Help! - this is driving me nuts! I am trying to build the bookstore example and get this error on asant steps that involve the admin-command-common target (such as "asant deploy-war").
I am running Studio Creator with SunAppServer8 under it. The command looks right. If I remove the passwordfile line from the admin-command-common target, I get the same error on another attribute in the command.
The password file exists where it should and contains valid information, including the correct password.
I have run this same bookstore example build on another workstation and it worked, but on that box, there was an instance of SunAppserver 7 (not under Studio Creator). That build was successful so I assume this is a configuration issue, but I don't know what it is. I am attaching the error and the listprops. If anyone knows what is wrong I sure would appreciate your help

How to run admin tasks with non-admin account ?

Hello,
The title says it all: I want to allow some non-administrative accounts to run admin tasks which must be run as root.
A solution would be to use 'sudo' and give rights to those non-admin accounts on the binaries used by the tasks. But I notably use 'chmod' and 'chown' in those tasks, and I would not want to give to non-admin accounts rights to run those commands as root outside the admin task scripts. But from my understanding of 'sudo', if I do it, non-admin accounts will be able to use chmod and chown outside the scripts. Is this right ?
The sid bit could have been a solution I think, but sadly it is not supported on Mac OSX 10.5.

I am trying to use the sudo route add command in a script, which should run as part of a vpn connection config file. I get an unable to run script error in the log.

Tried to run the command from the terminal and got the following error
postdrop warning: unable to look up public/pickup:no such file or directory.

I am currently working on the proposal for a Financial BI reporting project for a company in the UK and would like to know the advantages of using ( ESSBASE + OBIEE Dashboards) solution over (OBIEE ADMIN TOOL + OBIEE Dashboards).
As the project has complex data model the client is insisting on Essbase; will ESSBASE give me more flexibility over BI Admin tool in data modeling and cube designing?

Hi,
OBIEE has infinitely superior reporting functionality to Essbase.
Essbase is absolutely excellent if you want to give your users data input and intuitive drill features. For financial projects Essbase is excellent for budgeting, planning, forecasting etc where you want a good deal of user input on a flexible and intuitive basis for data modelling from a large end user audience.
Essbase is a highly complimentary product for OBIEE as OBIEE fills its reporting needs, modelling Essbase cubes in the repository is brilliantly fast and Essbase' cubes create things like dimension hierarchies purely by dragging physical cubes into the business model layer.
11g features like asymmetrical drilling, ragged hierarchies etc could have been built with Essbase in mind - and MOLAP was definitely built with Essbase in mind.
I would recommend looking at the Oracle by Example for Hyperion (which has Essbase at its core) for a feel of what Essbase can do for you.

Admin Task 2008 fails while executing from BIDS environment

Hello,
we developed a custom SSIS pcakge for automating master data load in BPC 7.5 MS.
The packages works fine when running form Data Managaer.
When executing the package from Business Intelligense development studio environement, only Admin Task 2008 with Create Dimension based on the SQL table option fails.
The user id has full authrozation in BPC.
Another information is that even this works fine when executing the package inside the server network.
But fails when executing this by logging to application server remotely.
Note that Run32bit property is already set to false.
Error message it gives is : The Task Create Dimension Fails
any expert thoughts are welcome.

OBIEE Admin Tool and Hyperion ADM issue

I'm trying to connect to one HFM Application from OBIEE admin tool, I have installed in Server1 OBIEE and ADM Link and Server2 HFM

Fail installing OBIEE 11g on Oracle Linux 5 64 bits

Hello,
I am trying to install OBIEE 11g over Oracle Linux 5 (64 bits), but I can't. I have the following issue:
INST-07008: Validation of Oracle Home location failed. User does not have permission to create home/instance location
INST-07282: Specified Middleware home location does not exist
In the Oracle Middleware Home, I have specified "/root/Oracle/Middleware".
I have following these steps:
1) Install Oracle DB 11g R2 (OK)
2) Install jdk for Linux 64 bits (OK)
3) Install weblogic
I have done the installation as "root" user
Middleware Home Directory = /root/oracle/Middleware (OK)
4) Install RCU as root (OK)
5) Install OBI 11g
To execute ./runInstaller it is necessary be as oracle user.
I have changed permissions in /root/Oracle/Middleware (chmod 777), but the issue is the same.
I appreciate any idea to solve the issue.

no, I have installed OBIEE as oracle user with software only option, with root isn't possible.
So, I don't know if it is necessary I installed WebLogic as oracle user to have permission in middleware path...

The "admin task" step (#176 below) of an actuals load package we run is failing and yielding the error message "exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation". We have seen this error ourselves in the past on the front end when we try to simply log in to the admin console, and our workaround has been to simply try again. The current log in management console shows this entry at the time of failure:

validate. By shutting off the validating parser the document will load. The error is likely caused by a recursive definition in the DTDs or, more likely, an error is the XML structure as the document errors even when the DTDs are removed.

SSIS Admin Task 2008

Hi All:
I am currently trying to setup a new admin task to process and optimize applications in BPC 7.5. I have multiple Applications Sets and I am trying to connect to a new one, but the Admin task is not recognizing the different applications in the app set. There is little to no documentation on how to use the Admin Task 2008 tool in SSIS. Does anyone know what is happening and why it won't pick up the existing aplpications as a choice?

Those admin tasks should work.
Have you placed the Osofttasks in the ..\DTS\Tasks folder and added the tasks to the BIDS Toolbox Items?
When you drag an "Admin Task 2008" to your Control Flow in BIDS, right click on it and select properties.
Then update the AppSet and UserID properties to the correct values.
After you do this, double click on the Admin Task 2008 and choose the "Process Application" option. Now are you able to see the Applications in the Application area?
You can also just update the APPLICATIONLIST variable (right click --> properties) with a comma delimited list of applications in your AppSet.
