OBIEE Env is down (URGENT)

Hi,
We are facing serious issue bring up the OBIEE Env.
We are facing following issue when we hit on the browser
The system cannot communicate with the external server.
1) The Database is up and running
2) The OBIEE service are up and running (UNIX Box)
3) Tried hitting http://Testmachine.net:7777/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard
4) Tried hitting http://<IPAddress>:7777/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard
Could you please let me know what should i check in order to bring the Env up

I am not sure what issue you have but a few questions come to mind.
What are you using for the web server and presentation services, are you using the oc4j containers?
starting at the beginning
user is not root
Your environment variables are set
You can connect from a db client from the box to the db.
The ports are open and not restricted by firewall rules or DMZ settings.
I assume you did a tail -f /{oraclehome}/OracleBI/server/Log/NQServer.log to see if the server services started.
are your presentation services running, do they need a no hup type cmd to keep them going?
when you started the presentation services did you get confirmation that the presentation services were running?
if you used the basic install try open a browser to http://testmachine :9074/ and see if you at least get the oc4j application server page?
Did you check the presentation server logs?

OBIEE 11g drill down issue

Hi,
I've configured a hierarchy (level-based) on clustering attributes: info_data(id,gender,age,region,category,relevation_date,cluster_name) dimension_data(foreign_id,occurrences) in which the hierarchy is defined as: gender ->age -> region. I've done the same type of hierarchy on other business models (also other tables) and it worked as expected.
In this configuration, instead, the drill-down seems to collapse into the detail level directly: for example if I make a pie chart where I put as pies the gender distribution (M/F) and I click on the pie with "M" I expect to have a pie with the age combinations, but what I have is that also the id (which is the display column for the detail level) shows up making the chart unreadable (all combination of age/id for "M"...as id is unique every pie as the same size).
I've done some research and tried some workaround I see for similar problems like marking the hierarchy as ragged, but the problem still remains. Any idea?

OBIEE Prompt - Drop Down List security restrictions .... Helppp

Hi all,
How can I put the security on a Drop Down Select List ?
For Example, I have a Department Prompt for a dashboard.
So I want put something like:
the User of Department 1 can see and select our department (1)
the User of Department 2 can see and select our department (2)
the Admin can see and select All Departments.
How can I do that?

You need to implement security filters in your RPD to automatically restrict the values returned by the BI Server.
You will need a way of mapping User of department 1 to the filter value , you can hold this in table if you want - Use an initialization block to populate a session variable per user , then filter the Department logical table using that session variable.

I am pretty new to OBIEE, and I am learning it by generating some simple reports. The concept, which is still not clear to me, is drilling down the reports. How can we achieve drilling functionality in OBIEE? Is there a good help document, which I can read?

Navigation—or drill-down—in Siebel Analytics is usually determined by the configuration of the business model in the Analytics Server. However, Siebel Analytics Answers provides developers with a handy feature that allows for the creation of custom navigation.
How it works
Let’s assume that you have created a report, let’s call it Report 1, in Siebel Answers and you would like to drill-down to a second report, let’s call it Report 2, by clicking on a specific column. Follow these steps to achieve the desired results:
·     Create a source report (Report 1) in Siebel Answers. This is the report from which you will drill down.
·     Create a target report (Report 2) in Siebel Answers. This report will be the destination report used when drilling down from the source (Report 1). In addition, the target report (Report 2) will be filtered by the value passed when clicking on Report 1. Make sure that both reports use common column names or variables.
·     In Report 1, click on the “Format Column” button for the column from which you would like to drill down. Next select the “Navigate to another request or Dashboard” option, browse to locate the target report (Report 2) and save your changes
·     In Report 2, click on the “Add Filter” button for the column you would like the filter to be applied. In the “Operator” list choose “Is Prompted” and save your changes.

OBIEE 10g Drill Down Chart From Axis Label

Hello All
Does any one know if OBIEE 10g can drill down values in a chart by clicking the axis labels of the charts.
In other words, if there was a bar chart with two bars, one for May and one for June, could a user click on the label 'May' or 'June' to drill down in the chart or can OBIEE only drill charts by clicking on the actual bar in the chart?

Hi,
In 11g chart navigations have changed.They are now moved to the criteria level and are therefore not available in results view.In your case, navigate to the criteria ->interaction tab and add the target as action link.

Server0 never comes up J2EE down- Urgent!!!!!

Hi,
Ihave installed a SM 4.0 system with ABAP+Java.
After all done with SP10, I had changed the master client from 001 to 100 which I created. From then my Server0 is not starting at all.
I tried all the below:
1. Created a new client 120, did a client copy with SAP_ALL of 000 client and users of 001 client.
2. CHanged the productive cleint in configtool to 120 and gave SAPJSF as the ume.r3.connection.master.user
3. I changed my data source to datasource_abap.xml from the portal data source. (I was not able to follow note 718383, as my server0 was already down.
Now I still get UME error and the server0 does not start at all.
In between, I enabled the superadmin user SAP* and the server0 came up, but all my SLD, Useradmin pages were balnk and had no data at all.
Now I get errors which are below: Please help, as I did all that I could. May be still I miss something.
My hostname is also correct, but the log says MSGHOST, MSSERv is wrong.
Not sure where is the mistake.

I had changed the settings in config tool and configured the datasource.abap.xml properly with all the required ume.r3.connection paramteres.
Nowe everything is fine except only one error. I get an error on the anonymous user.
The security.0.log file gives the below error.

So I enabled the superadmin user and password in config tool to SAP* and now the server0 starts. But the issue is, now if I go to the useradminscreen, it is blank. I am not sure what is to be done.
How do I proceed further in this? Do I have to make any changes in Visual administrator, so that I can correct the UME in-consistencies.??? Why is my browser blank???

Only my J2EE index.html page has a proper URL. All other pages like, SLD, UME, etc has tcsecumewd kind of URL. Not sure if this would be an issue.
I tried to follow the below SAP help, but I do not find those parameter anonymous user ID in the UME properties.
2.1. Activate SAP* (emergency user)
Change the UME properties:
○     ume.superadmin.activated=true
○     ume.superadmin.password=
Restart the server.
Log on to the UME Web application (/useradmin), where you can search for users and groups. You can also create missing users and groups or fix the mapping between them.
If you even see an error like Anonymous principal not found or Anonymous principal not configured, the guest user may have been deleted. In addition to the properties mentioned above, you have to change the guest/anonymous user settings:
○     UMEproperty:
ume.login.guest_user.uniqueids=SAP*
○     J2EE Engine Security:
In the Config Tool, switch to configuration editor mode and choose Security ® Userstores ® UME User Store. Set anonymous-user=SAP.*
○     J2EE Engine Security:
In the Config Tool, switch to configuration editor mode and choose Security ® Userstores ® UME User Store ® Configuration. Set anonymous-user=SAP.*
When you have finished, change these settings back again and restart the server.

JMS Exception when server goes down (Urgent) ?

Hi All,
I have three topics in the JMS Server which is on the top of Web logic server 8.1.
On the client side I have Swing thick cleint.For each topic I have a listener.
When the web logic server goes down ( I shut down manually ) Only one listener is recieving the Exception and the Swing client reacts accordingly.
After this ,
Client continousoly checks whether the server is up or not. Once the server is up again the Exception is thrown that server is down ( I guess now the second listener is recieving the message).
After some time again the third listener recives the message.....
and the client reacts on that exception 3 times.
How can I get rid of this ?

Hi,
this is probably a very good question to ask support. 'Logical' deployment sequence
was added to the WebLogic only recently (6.1sp?) ('logical' means that first datasources
are deployed, then EJB's and then web-apps, deployment-order parameter was added etc).
So, for applications where shutdown sequence is important there must be a document which
describes how server shutdown works.
On the other hand, this may not be as important as deployment sequence, because running
instance can crash at any time and it should not affect anything.

Most of my ejbs use connection from the connection pool. At the weblogic server shut
down time (heavy load), I can see the jsps call the ejb, sometime jsp can't find
the bean because it's removed from jndi. sometime jsp found the bean but when the
bean try to talk to database, ejb can't use the connection because the datasource
is removed from jndi. Also my shutdown class waits for the threads finish up, and
the threads calls the ejb and do the db operation, and the conn is cut when the db
operation is half way. So, the order of events when server shut down is important
to me. I am wondering how other people deal with it. Thanks --

OBIEE services are down

hi gems...
i have started all the OBIEE services and then logon to the browser and the login page comes.
I am able to login and view the reports..
But after few seconds the screen goes off and it is showing THE PAGE NOT FOUND..
the OBIEE server is a solaris machine..

OBIEE Presentation Service Down itself.

I am facing this issue since a week, we have created an SR with Oracle, But till now did not found a solution.
Problem is Oracle BI Presentation Service get down automatically, and we need to start it again through Enterprise Manager.
after looking into the log, we are not sure that this is the main reason, but for your reference I am giving the obips log file here.

OBIEE 11g environment going down.

Hi Experts,
Our OBIEE 11g Production environment goes down every now and then.
I want to enable some scripts wherein i can get a notification on the pager or email that my obiee environment is down.
So far we have no mechanism to know when is our environment down...
Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated.
Our servers are setup in Linux environment.

Ashish,
you have different 3rd party applications like sitescope, HP Open View etc. You might need to check with your company/alerts team who will setup these alerts for you.

we use HP Openview and sitescope for these down alerts

OBIEE 11G HOLAP( drill through) from ORACLE OLAP to Relaltional table

Hi Experts...
I have some idea that the drill through from an essbase cube to an relational cube can be possible with few limitations in OBIEE 10g. I am looking for the same feature with ORACLE OLAP option . I have OLAP cube built in 11g (leve5 - granularity to one of the dimension) , and relational has 7 levels. In OBIEE once drill down to the level 5 it has fetched data from OLAP , and going beyond to level 6 -7 then it should get the data from relational table.
Do anyone had gone through such solution, Please kndly share your inputs and documents which would be helpful.

This is very easy. It's really no different from setting up OBIEE to drill from one table to another. Let's assume that you have your cube mapped in OBIEE using the OBIEE plug-in for Analytic Workspace Manager. Here is an outline of the steps:
1. Add the dimension table and fact table to the OBIEE physical layer.
2. Add the new level to the OBIEE dimension object in the business layer.
3. Add the dimension table as a new logical table source to the existing dimension table in the business layer.
4. Add the fact table as new table in the business layer.
5. Define joins in the physical and business model as appropriate.
6. Set set keys in the tables and the dimension as appropriate.
7. Set the level for the new dimension table to the appropriate level in the dimension.
Again, it's really best to just think about this as drilling from one table to another.

Cloned Dac, Informatica and OBIEE want to change the ip and hostname

Hi Gurus,
I recently cloned my OBIEE env on virtual machines on OEL ( Linux)
I want to change the hostname and ip address to make the services up with new IP and hostname.
I started the Database(11gR2) single instnace successfully. Please let me know what all changes need to be done to start the dac(10.1.3.4), informatica(9.0.1 Hotfix 2) server and also OBIEE(11.1.1.7.1)
I did run ./startServerprompt.sh for DAC but still the service cannot be started.

Informatica and DAC is also on Linux servers. As a first step I'm trying to start the services on DAC and Informatica servers but still no luck.
When I'm Trying to start it gives me the following error in the log
For Informatica:
Domain service init method is called
java.net.UnlnownHostException: santa.pti.local (which is the wrong hostname)
it should be picking up the new hostname panta.pti.local
but I don't know where exactly is this information stored and how to get over it.
The same case is with DAC server when I try to start it it's picking up the wrong hostname
Anybody who can help me get through this. I have go ogled it but so far I couldn't solve it.
Appreciate if anyone could help me solve this.

Hi, check the server logs inside <@yourBIPath>/bifoundation/diagnostics/OBIEEPresentationservicecomponent and OBIEE servercomponent.
This may sound silly, but are your servers&the nodeman up and running?
