OBIEE Multi Currency Conversion Question

Hi,
We are implementing BI with the Financials Dashboard and currently the default currency displayed is in USD$.
We would like to add a filter for each dashboard and allow users to choose between 4 currencies:
1. Local Currency
2. Reporting Currency Daily (USD at Constant daily/monthly corporate rate)
3. Reporting Currency Current Year (USD at Constant current year corporate rate)
4. Reporting Currency Previous Year (USD at Constant previous year corporate rate)
Please would you know the best way to add this filter and setup the solution in BI?
Do we need to use Global Rate, Variables...?
Thank you,
Ben

Hi,
We input the data into currency member called 'Local' and based on the currency conversion it will be converted into reporting currency.
If you want to enter the currency other than the base currency for an entity, you need to enable the option of enable multi currencies in Other options in the Manager dataforms. While inputting the values you need to give the currency after the value.

tvmk

  • Currency Conversion Question

    Hello,
I have a  user who would like to enter the target currency type and  the target currency value via a selection screen. In other words, bypass the currency translation table.
Is there a standard scenario that can accomplish this requirement ?
    Thanks
    Dorothy.

    Hi
You can do currency conversion at information building level or query level.
At infoprovider level, you can use standard function module:RSW_RATE_GET_BASIC to get rate for given source and target currencies.
Check: Currencies conversion at query level

  • In what steps does currency conversion take place in BW?

    Hi Experts,
could someone explain me in what steps BW performs the currency conversion making use of the TCUR....  tables.
E.g. we have a certain rate and ratios in TCURR table but these are overruled by settings in TCURF (alternative exchange rate) table.
We did an SQL trace but I did not understand why various steps are done.

  • OBIEE currency conversion

    Hi,
I have something i don't really understand in OBIEE 10g,
I have done a full financial ETL load, I went to see my values in predefined financial dasboard , but all my values are in dollars $
for example if locally i have 7200 in the dashdoard i have approximatively 13,926.
this value (7200) is the same in the datawarehouse , it is only in the dashboard that it is different?
My question is how can i change this or convert this to my local value ? Like after an ETL load i still have 7200 in the datawarehouse and in the dashboard !!!
Also how this convertion to dollar $ occur ? where this calculation is made ? Where can i change those rate in a flexible way ?
i have made some changes in the DAC $$GLOBAL_CURR_CODE and $$GLOBAL_RATE_TYPE but the result still in dollar $
    Pls suggest.
    Thanks in advance
    Jo.

Well, Then this is DAC configuration issue..
Can you make sure you have same value in all these parameters: i.e. "Corporate"
    $$GLOBAL1_RATE_TYPE
    $$GLOBAL2_RATE_TYPE
    $$GLOBAL3_RATE_TYPE
$$DEFAULT_LOC_RATE_TYPE (the conversion rate type for document currency to local currency conversion).
    Also, for
    $$GLOBAL1_CURR_CODE (for the document currency).
    $$GLOBAL2_CURR_CODE (for the local currency).
    $$GLOBAL3_CURR_CODE (for the global currency).
The above parameters are overwritten to 'USD' code if you have made use of same OOTB subject areas...Create a new customized Subject Area and give your Currency Code value with rate as 1.

  • Questions regarding currency conversion using SPRUNCONVERSION.

    Hi all,
I have implemented currency conversion using SPRUNCONVERSION stored procedure. I have following questions regarding how does it work.
    1. Is it mandatory to create FxTrans Business Rules with SPRUNCONVERSION?
    2. How does it work internally? How does it look up rate from the rate application?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Any reference to any documents will help.
    Thanks&Regards,
    Diksha.
(PS: How to document does not explain about how it works).

    Hi Diksha,
    1. Yes since it will base it's translation rules based on what is defined on the currency conversion business rules.
    2. The stored procedure SPRUNCONVERSION scans all records found in the selected region of data and translates them according to the RATETYPE property assigned to the ACCOUNT specified in each record, based on the following mechanism:
    Note:
All ACCOUNTS with no RATETYPE (ratetype = blank) will be translated with a factor of 1
All ACCOUNTS with the reserved RATETYPE = NOTRANS will not be translated
All other ACCOUNTS will be translated according to the definitions contained in the table of parameters called clcFXTRANS.
How the RATE table is selected
While most customers require a single table of rates, there are situations when more than one set of rates is required. In this situation, the translation procedure uses the RateEntity dimension to select the correct table of rates to use.
Whenever a destination currency is selected, the procedure searches for a RateEntity member flagged with this currency in the Currency property. For example, if translating into USD, the system uses the RateEntity member that has the Currency property set to USD.
If there is no RateEntity flagged as the destination currency, the system will use the RateEntity with Currency = 'u2019 (blank).
In addition to this, some exceptions by ENTITY can be applied. For example, some entities just entering in the consolidation perimeter may need to be converted at their own specific set of rates. These entities may have a corresponding RateEntity member in the RATE cube. All ENTITIES having a corresponding RateEntity member in the RATE cube will use that member as rate table. For example, if there is a RateEntity member named like the ENTITY USOps, the RateEntity member USOps will be used to translate the values of entity ENTITY USOps.
The RateEntity member, when representing an ENTITY, may be any of the following:
A valid base level or parent member ID from the ENTITY dimension of the main cube
A list of members of the ENTITY dimension, as defined filtering the members using a value of the DIMLIST property (or any property whose name begins with "DIMLISTu201D) of such dimension.
For more info, you could refer to the Administration Help found on the Admin console.
    Hope this helps,

  • Another Release Strategy Question - Multi currency

    Hello,
I have been searching for an answer to my delema to no avail on this board, but no answer yet.
    My problem:
We have a Purchase Req. strategy with approval by Plant, Cost Center, and Total PR Value.
The PR Value Characteristic is in US Dollars, but one of our companies is in Europe so we also need to have a PR Value Characteristic in Euros.
    Currently we have:
Characteristic:  Z_PR_AMT referencing field CEBAN-GFWRT.  This is in US Dollars.
                             Z_PR_WERKS referencing field CEBAN-WERKS
                             Z_PR_KOSTL referencing field CEBAN-KOSTL.
Class:              Z_PR_CLA with references to Characteristics: Z_PR_AMT, Z_PR_WERKS, and
                             Z_PR_KOSTL.
Release Group: A1  that is assigned to class Z_PR_CLA
Also, currently all PR's under $1000 (US Dollars) go through Workflow for release, and if the PR is over $1000 (US Dollars), requires a 2nd release.
But, since we have a company in Europe, we also need to be able to have a Release Characteristic for Euros so that PR's in Europe under 1000 Euros go to a new release strategy, and PR's in Europe over 1000 Euros go to a 2nd release strategy.
Can I add a new Characteristic to the Z_PR_CLA refering to the same CEBAN-GFWRT field, but use currency EUR (lets say Characteristic ZPR_AMT_E).  Then in CL20N (Classifications) when I am adding the actual values, leave the value information blank for the European Amount  characteristic and fill in the US Amount and assign to a US Release Strategy.   Then leave blank the US Amount charastieric field and fill in the European Amount characteristic field for Europe Release Strategies?
    Will this work?
    Thanks in advance.

That is the problem we are trying to avoid.  We do not want to have to put in a manually converted 1,000 Euros to US Dollars.
Currently we have a US Dollar limit for our European plant set at $1,474.30 which is to represent 1,000 Euros.  But this number changes with the fluxuation of the currency rates.
So far in testing I do have 2 Characteristics defined for Currency, one for US Dollars and the other for Euros.  Both Characteristics have amounts loaded in them (via the CL20N screen).
I do see in my debug sessions that there is a currency conversion to foreign currency in the LEBNDF01 include program, but since I have 2 Characteristics for Currency in the CL20N screen for this particular Release Strategy, this is messing up the conversion to foreign currency.
I still have more debugging to go.

  • Need help with Currency Conversion

    Hello,
I need to implement currency conversion in our existing classic planning application (11.1.2.1) which was initially set as a multi-currency application but so far we didn’t have the users entering data in their local currencies. We were entering all the values in USD. Now the users will be entering data in their local currencies and we need to convert their local data into USD  for reporting purposes.
I don’t have much experience with multi-currency applications and so I would really appreciate if the gurus here can guide and help me.
Our currency dimension has the following three members USD, B, C. Our reporting currency is USD which is the default currency for our application.
After reading some forum posts and documentation below are the steps I tried but couldn’t get it to work right. Correct me if I am doing something wrong, or in the wrong order or missing something.
Administration – Manage – Exchange Rates – Create – A_FY13 – Edit – Chose all the options – Average, Ending, BegBalance, Historical, Method – Clicked Next – Chose the Year as FY13 from the drop down (in Show Years) and entered the exchange rates for both B & C – Save.
A message was displayed – “Exhange Rate has been saved successfully”.
    Administration – Manage – Currency Conversions – A_FY13 – Next - Currency - USD, Scenario – Actual, Version Type – Target, Version – Working – Save.
A message was displayed – “Scripts were successfully created”.
In EAS both the scripts – HspCRtT & A_FY13 were created.
Edited the A_FY13 script FIXs to only work on year FY13 for one month for testing purposes.
In workspace edited the Actual scenario to be associated with the A_FY13 exchange rate table.
In EAS ran the HspCRtT script first followed by ACT_FY13. The scripts completed successfully.
While pulling data (Level 0 data) in Excel the data is present in “Local” intersection for the accounts I am looking at but when looked at the USD intersection the data is converted right for only one account, for some other accounts there is no data in the intersection and for another account which is a weight account (weight of a product) which doesn’t need to get converted the values got converted. For some reason the conversion isn’t working right for the accounts.
Are there any steps that I am missing here?  Please let me know your ideas and help me. Any help is appreciated and I will be looking forward for suggestions and ideas.
    Thanks.
    ~ Adella
P.S ~ I had posted a similar question a couple months earlier but still couldn't really get things to work... and so I am posting it again to get more help. For those who are feeling that they have read this kind of a question earlier from me...please bear with me as I couldn't get my issues resolved and still couldnt get things implemented successfully. Again, I would really appreciate if you could further help me with your ideas and suggestions.

  • Possibility of multi-currency in OBIA 7.9.6.2 financial anlytics

    Dear Gurus,
We are implemented OBIA 7.9.6.2 – Financial analytics, Proc & spend analytics and SCM analytics for a Europian client for source Oracle EBS 11.5.10. Using OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1
This clients business organisations are there in various countries in the EUROPE like Denmark, Poland, Finland etc… In EBS each country is having separate SET_OF_BOOK_ID (similar to Ladger ID R12).
    Parameter values given in DAC.
    $$GLOBAL1_CURR_CODE = EUR
    $$GLOBAL2_CURR_CODE = DKK
    $$GLOBAL3_CURR_CODE = DKK
Presently showing all the out of the box reports in EURO currency successfully.
As per the client requirement we have to show financial analytics report in multiple currencies
EX: take Balance Sheet or Cash Flow report, both of these reports belongs to General ledger dashboard.
User1 want to see above reports in EURO
    and
User2 wanto see same reports in DKK
They need kind of currency_type dashboard prompt and select currency_type and see the reports.
My actual question is: Is this possible in OBIA 7.9.6.2 as all measures are calculated in BMM layer by using Global1_amount and they are huge?
Please remember that there will not mejur changes to happen.
If possible how dynamically it happens? What kind of changes we need to do?
Thanks in advance for the clarification / suggestions.

    Hi,
I am not sure if you got the answer for your question. I am also in search of the answer for a similar question. As per my understanding from the OBIA documentations, the ETL process of OBIA will redo the conversion of the transactional amounts provided the conversion rates for the currencies in question are available in the GL Daily Conversion rates table. And OBIA provides 3 global currncy options (as per the same currency parameters that you have listed in your query below) as the reporting currency choices for the users. As per my understanding these three currency options will be available for the users as the options to choose in the reporting / presentation layer. I am curious to know if this understanding is correct. If you are through your OBIA implementation by this time you may be in a postition to clarify this.
The actual question I am trying to seek is "Is this a correct approach to redo the conversion all over again while the transaction tables in Oracle EBS tables are already storing the converted amounts and the conversion rate details in the transaction table itself ? Does this not leads to the rounding and therefore accruacy issues ? What about those cases where fewtransactions being done by users using special conversion rates (conversion rate type = "User")?" Doesn't this behaviour leads to the capturing of incorrect converted amounts in the data ware house?
    Regards,
    Manohar.

  • Multi-currency API

Looking for an API which will translate multi-currency into USD for financials (GL).

I believe you posted another question earlier and John Goodwin refered you to a link.. Did that not help?
I believe you have only 1 "Sales Price" account where you want to enter by Eur/KG. You want this to be converted to $/MT. If thats correct, do you have another dimensions like units?
You will have to define your currency conversion calculation
Step 1: Copy EUR value to USD [USD =  EUR]
Step2: Apply exchange rate as below
If you don't have units dimensions, and users know that USD values are in MT, use below
    "USD" = "USD" * "EUR"->HSP_Average->"All other dimensions here"*1000;
If you have units dimension, use below
    "USD"->"MT" = "USD" * "EUR"->"KG"->HSP_Average->"All other dimensions here"*1000;
The new value in USD will be converted to $/MT
Note that you will use 1.3, instead of 0.77 as I explained in previous message. This is assuming that you have defined the exchange rates table in planning web.
    Cheers

  • Currency Translation Type in queries using currency conversion

I have a question on the Currency Translation Type (EUR_VAR) that is used in all of the queries using currency conversion on the fly. (currency is maintained automatically nor in table.)
User wants to use 2 different exchange rates in a single query. The months in 2010 (Actuals) are to
be converted using Xchangerate-type EURO and the months in 2011 (Planned) to use Xchangerate-type USD.
But store different rates with different starting dates. This is however not possible because the Currency Translation
Type is set-up (1) to work with Query Key date - rather than a characteristic in the data and (2) apparently these
currency translation types only work with time characteristics like 0fiscyear
    My idea is therefor to:
    1. Create a new variable (similar to EXC_RATE) to prompt for a 2nd Exchange Rate type when query starts
    2. Create a new Currency Translation Type (next to EUR_VAR), referencing the new variable or sticking to fixed Xrate type, fixed to EUR
Is this possible to create Idea (2)
    Many Thanks in Advance.

The best way would be to create two curr conversion types , one converting to EUR and other to USD .Put them in properties of coressponding KFs in query. For timref in RSCUR , variable time ref can be used individually for two conv types.

I did the Currency Conversion in the BEX by creating a currency translation type using the tcode RSCUR. Following are the   settings I have Used for Conversion
    1. Exchange rate type  M
    2  target currency         USD.
    3 Time reference          Current Date.
Problem is the values are not getting converted to USD on PO Creation date.
Moreover I wanted the records whose values are more than 50,000 USD.
    Question.
How to convert the currency from one to another on a Particular date.
Date for each record is different from one another as stated above.
Help me out in this case.

    Dear Raj,
    Thank you for the reply.
Iam using BI 7 and the tcode rrc1 is obselete in this version.
So I went to the new tcode rscur and created the currency translation type with the settings below.
    1. Exchange rate type M
    2 Target currency USD.
    3 Time reference Current Date.
Used this translation key in the Key figure properties for currency translation.
I went to the source system and on context menu I transferred global settings.
Do I need to maintain currency keys and exchange rates manually even after transferring global settings?
I have set in the time reference the PO creation date
as Special Info Object. Will this work?
    Please let me know.
