Objects view - databases with many thousands of tables

I did not find a way to apply a filter to object names when viewing or using database objects such as tables or views. In databases where there may be 20,000 plus tables and/or views this makes the tool difficult to use.
Options:
1) Allow one-time filtering of object names
2) Allow the designation of one or more objects as favorites or add their names to a project and then only show those object names instead of all objects in the database.

SAP is running with corrupted DB6 Database with many "Bad Page Header" . .

Hello Friends,
One of our DB6 Database is showing multiple entries in db2diag.log file, while performing SAP Local client copy, SGEN, SAP System Copy, REORGCHK for All, RUNSTAT for single Table......

System Information:
SAP system : Solution Manager 70 , Support Stack 15
Database : DB2 v9.1.700.855 , FP7
Operating system: Windows Server 2003 Ent. x64 Edition
Currently, All things are working fine with the current status of DB6 Database. SAP Solman system is starting and shutting down in normal way whenever it is required. In DB6COCKPIT, not even single alert is there for inconsistent objects, and for other factors. Even, At present, I am able to perform both compressed /uncompressed Online/Offline backup of the System Database.
Previously, the system was maintained by other BASIS administrator. The problem came to know by me, when i ran SGEN after successfully applying ST-A/PI add-on in system, as per as EarlyWatch report notification. The corruption might happened before 6 to 7 months ago, as i have seen the same messages in db2diag.log files, when the same problem was identified by me recently. And moreover, as per as our Backup cycle, all dedicated Backup Tapes are overwritten with existing status of SAP Solman Database within this 6 to 7 months long period, so I can not restore the consistent Database backup to correct the problem.
The ABAP dumps which came as a result of SGEN and of some operations are as followed:
DBIF_REPO_INTERNAL_ERROR
DBIF_REPO_SQL_ERROR (SQL error "-1034" occurred when accessing program, SQL error "-99999" occurred when accessing program)
GEN_BRANCHOFFSET_LIMIT_REACHED
etc...etc...
I tried to diagnosis the cause of this problem using DB2DART tool and done the analysis of all tablespaces. Out of 37 Tablespaces, multiple Tablespaces are found with error/corruptions.
Due to the corruption in multiple Database Obejcts, I am not able to do SAP Local client copy, SGEN, SAP System Copy, REORGCHK for All, RUNSTAT for single Table... and other Database related operations.
Is there any alternative to correct this corrupted database excep Backup/Restore database?
I am looking for your cooperations to solve this unexpected critical Problem.

Fortunately the db2diag.log provides a lot of good debugging information. Here is an excerpt of the information that we captured for a (different) problem we were having:

Basically the information you are looking for is the PageKey which tells you that the problem happened in tablespace id 59, tableid 9 pagenumer 5409475. You can then use db2dart to dump that particular page and examine the contents (in our case it was zeroed out due a filesystem problem).
db2dart <db> /DP /TSI 59 /PS 5409475 /NP 0
There are various other dump options that you can use. I have found this to be very useful in diagnosing these kind of problems.

Database with many schemas - query schema depending on user

Let's assume we have a number of schemas in a database (hundred or so), which all contain the same tables.
The customer wants one application express application which accesses only the schema corresponding to the user that is currently logged in.
So database schema user1 contains table EMP, and schema user2 also contains EMP. Now the application is assigned both schemas user1 and user2, and when user2 logs in he only sees database schema user2.
Is this possible with Apex? I've tried both built-in authentication and database authentication for the application, but found out this is truly only about authentication, because the query is always executed by APEX_PUBLIC_USER.
How can I manage which schema is accessed with the authenticated user?

Every apex application has an "owner" attribute which is used as the parsing schema. All SQL and PL/SQL in your app is parsed as that schema using that schema's privileges. It is as if your application were a definer's rights stored procedure in that schema. The APEX_PUBLIC_USER schema is simply used to create the session and has no bearing on privileges. Currently there is no way to change the owner attribute of an application at runtime. However, your application can operate with any schema in the database according to the privileges granted to the parsing schema. Something along the lines of what you described was discussed at length in the following thread, maybe it will give you some ideas to try out: Access to owner schema throught APIs

Creating Table View's with more than one table

I have two custom tables.
Table A has 2 fields: Code and Description
Table B has 4 fields: Code, Country, Emp Group and Personnel Area
I would like to build a view which has: Code, Description, County, Emp Group and Personnel Area. This view should be able to pull in the Description from Table A when the user enters in the Code.
I have created a view with SE11 and have put both Table A and B with joins as follows: A Code = B Code. Under the view fields I have put the fields B.Code, A. Description, B.Country, B.Emp Group and B.Personnel Area.
When I generate this view (Utilities, Table Maintenance Generator) it only shows the Code and Description field. It does pull in the Description automatically which is great. The issue is 2 things 1) The Description can be changed and 2) The other fields I specified above are not included on the view (e.g., Country etc.)
Any ideas?

I have checked several times that it is against the view as it is so strange that not all of the fields are appearing.
I go into SE11, Click on View, Type in the View Name and then Change. I goto into Utilities, Table Maintenance Generator and select it as one Step and then click on the Create Button. When I go into SM30 I only see the 2 fields?

Lock table overflow - BRF Plus - can it work with many entries in tables ?

hi,
when I'm trying to open expression table in BRFplus with 500 entries in web
I get an error: Lock table overflow and I see more then 2000 entries in sm12 for fdt_ tables
and the system cannot create any more locks (so other applications are not working)
why is that ? can BRF plus work with more then 100 entries in table expressions at all ?
can anyone tell from experience as this is a huge issue I believe

Hi Michal,
You are running a NW 701 system. This was the first version of BRFplus and the DB schema was not good for high volumne.
I have created some notes recommending to use decision table for up to 100 rows (of course other factors like # of columns are also important).
In NW 702 the DB schema has been changed and decision tables with 10.000 rows are possible and performance better by a factor of 100 and more.
In your specific case you may consider to increase the number of logs that are possible. But this is rather a workaround than a solution.

No known limitations. Please post the sample DDL to create your object types and object view, along with an example of the example XML document you're trying to insert.

Only oracle object tables to create object oriented database

Can we use only oracle object tables for a database and if it can be done, can we create pure object oriented database with oracle. How it can be done?

Nested Tables
You can create a table with a column whose datatype is another table. That is, tables can be nested within other tables as values in a column. The Oracle database server stores nested table data out of line from the rows of the parent table, using a store table that is associated with the nested table column. The parent row contains a unique set identifier value associated with a nested table instance.

No records in Azure databrowser viewing tables with many columns.

Yesterday I encountered an issue while browsing a table created in Azure.
I created a new database in Azure and in this database I created and populated several tables, containing one very big table.
The big table has 239 columns.
I succeeded in populating this table with our in-company table-data, means by a dtsx-package. No problem this far.
When I query the table from SQL Server Management Studio, I get correct results.
However, the databrowser on the azure-site itself does not show any data for this table. That’s a little disappointing regarding the fact that there are more than 76000 records in this table. Refresh didn’t help.
When I browse smaller tables with less data-columns, I do get data in this data-browser.
Is this a known issue or do you know a solution for this issue ?

Based on your description, you want to edit data of a large table in the Management Portal of SQL database, but it is not return rows in GUI Design tab. Can you get the data when select "TOP 200 rows"?
Since there are 239 columns and 76000 rows in the table, the Portal may take a bit long time to load all data in GUI. Please try to using T-SQL statement to perform the select or update operation and specify condition in WHERE clause to load the
needed data.

View objects performance issue with oracle seeded tables

While i am writing a view object on a oracle seeded tables like MTL_PARAMETERS, its taking more time to show in the oaf page.I am trying to display all these view object columns in detail disclosure of advanced table. My Application is taking more than two minutes to display the view columns of the query which is returning just 200 rows. Please help me how to improve performance when my query using seeded tables.
This issue is happening only in R12 view object and advanced tables.

Here is architecture of my application:
Java application creates XML from the screen values and then inserts that XML
into a framework(separate DB schema) table . then Java calls a Stored Procedure from same framework DB and in SP we have following steps.
1. It fatches XML from the XML type table and inserts XML into screen specific XML TYPE table in the framework DB Schema. This table has a trigger which parses XML and then inserts XML values into GTT which are created in separate product schemas.
2. it calls Product SP and then in product SP we have business logic. Product SP
does the execution and then inserts response into Response GTT.
3. Response XML is created by using XML generation function and response GTT.
I hope u will understand my architeture this time and now let me know if GTT are good in this scenario or not. also please not that i need data in GTT only during execution and not after that. i dont want to do specific delete which i have to do if i am using normal tables.

Nested table type in object view on 8.1.7

Object views seem to be the ideal way to deliver XML datagrams from database queries with nested data.
I need to create a datagram that contains nested data within another nested set of data eg. a family has many people, each person may have many hobbies.
The following code taken from Oracle documentation would create the Types I need, but this does not work on 8.1.7 (gets PLS-00534 error). Can someone advise if nested tables within a table type is a new Oracle 9 feature?

Value-based multi-level collections, such as the one you have here, were not supported in 8.1.7. You have two choices:
1. Upgrade to 9i to take advantage of value-based multi-level collections (see http://download-west.oracle.com/otndoc/oracle9i/901_doc/appdev.901/a88878/adobjbas.htm#462243), type inheritance, type evolution and other new features.
2. Use REFs in 8.1.7 to build a reference-based multi-level collections (see http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_library/817_doc/appdev.817/a76976/adobjdes.htm#446229).

Unable to view database objects

I have just installed Oracle XE on a new Windows 2003 Server box. The install seems to have been Ok and I can start the application and import data from spreadsheets to form tables (using import .csv options). The database structures seem to be built and data imported without any problem. When I try to view the new tables via the object browser I get the frame of the object browser window with what seem to be headers and footers but nothing else. In the bottom left hand corner of the browser is a small yellow triangle with an exclamation mark and 'Error on Page'. If I click the triangle a dialogue box pops up with an error message: 'Automation server can't create object' and then nothing happens. I can click on the Home button or via crumb trail and I get a working system back again. It seems to happen whenever I click on anything to do with displaying object information - a similar message appears when I try to produce a DDL script of the tables I have uploaded. If I use the external SQL Client I can query back data from these tables without any problem.
Can anybodty help with this problem ?

Thanks for the pointer. I needed to set up the local address (127.0.0.1) as a trusted site within IE and then everything now seems to work as I would expect.

I think with enough patience one could get the ASCII DataPlugin Wizard to create a DataPlugin that would work for your file, but the resulting code generated by the wizard is not easily understandable, and it would not have correctly devined the sampling rate from your file format. I've written a DataPlugin from scratch which correctly reads the data snippet you sent over. I included an implicit time channel so that you could easily see the time values inferred from the "SampleRate" line. The implicit time channel rerquires all the lines in the ASCII file to be parsed in order to figure out the correct channel length (line 58), so if you have large data files you should comment out the time channel lines (44, 45, 58) and use just the implict time information already encoded in the data channel waveform properties (for faster file indexing). Unless your files are verry large, though, I think you'll like the DataPlugin as it is.
