OC4J 9.0.4 to 10.1.3.1 Conversion Problems

After converting my application from JDeveloper 9.0.5.2/OC4J 9.0.4 to JDeveloper/OC4J 10.1.3.1 I am experiencing some problems.
The first problem I encountered was needing to replace SimpleUserManager with JAAS login. This was done somewhat sucessfully.
The next problem I encountered was a NullPointerException when trying to display a ResultSet in a JSP. I have determined that the ResultSet and its MetaData are in tact from within the Java code but there seems to be a disconnect at the JSP.
Another problem I notice is that there seems to something like a "session" timeout going on. If I enter my JSP main menu (after a login) and then navigate to a JSP submenu THEN navigate back to the JSP main menu I am redirtected to my "not logged in screen" (<form-login-page>) in orion-application.xml.
These two problems "feel" related but I can'r seem to nail them down.
My OC4J settings are set to the defaults for everything.
For the record. The code that fails in JDeveloper/OC4J 10.1.3.1 is the same code that works in JDeveloper 9.0.5.2/OC4J 9.0.4.
Further yet: The code that fails in Jdeveloper/OC4J 10.1.3.1 fails if I run it in JDeveloper Embedded OC4J.
Any clues, pointers and general ideas are welcomed.
Ed.

Not quite sure, but would expect this behaviour after closing the resultSet in the servlet code.
BTW, have you tried the sql package of the JSTL library?

    Hello,
    Could someone please assist me with the following error messages?

    Obviously oc4j is installing, but these error messages are certainly a problem (for example, I can't successfully deploy applications).
    When I used the previous version of oc4j none of these errors surfaced. I also have tried installing this new version in a new, clean directory, and still get the same error messages.
    Please help,
    John

    Thank you for your quick response.
    I hope that you are right, that these errors don't cause any other problems down the line, but I still have a problem trying to deploy applications.
    For example, I tried to deploy mapviewer, using the following syntax --
    java -jar admin_client.jar deployer:oc4j:localhost fmwadmin <admin_pwd>
    -deploy
    -file <path-to-ear-file>
    -deploymentName <name>

  • Strange classloader experience with toplink-essentials on Oc4j-10.1.3.3.0

    Hi,
    I am teaching classes at the Eotvos University/Budapest on a topic where OC4J has been used for 2 years. Students use jdeveloper (regularly updated) to create webapps with EJB3.0+toplink backends. They test their projects first with the JDeveloper embedded OC4J, but after that they deploy it on a central server running standalone OC4J.
    Students make quite an intensive and versatile use of the OC4J server, a noteworthy stress-test you may find interesting! The server is a Ubuntu Linux with JDK_1.5.0_14.
    1. The first known issue is that after about 10 projects are deployed (small class projects 3-4 EJBs, 3-4 JSP-s each), oc4j regularl goes into a "runaway" mode, i.e. the CPU utilization of the JVM process goes up to 99-100%. Static web content is still available, but all applications stop responding. I can state pretty safely that the applications deployed are fairly harmless and it is not even necessary to run them to make this happen. I.e. after 10-15 apps are depoyed it is enough to start the admin-client.jar or the admin console to experience this problem. (The applications have no problem individually: last year after these issues occurred, we installed them individually for grading and nothing like this happened).
    Let me point out that SO FAR this happened with Oc4j-10.1.3.1 and Oc4j-10.1.3.2 only, and this was the main reason we swithed to Oc4j-10.1.3.3.0
    2. Another issue that exists both with the earlier versions and 10.1.3.3.0 is that applications need to include the toplink-essentials.jar explicitely if they use EJB3.0 entities. It appears to me that this should not be neessary as there are default definitions for that in config/server.xml (a shared-library definition for toplink-essentials), and in config/system-application.xml (a corresponding import-shared-library tag), but still their applications cannot be deployed because of the follwing error:
    Deploy error: Deploy error: Operation failed with error:
    Hiányzó osztály: oracle.toplink.essentials.ejb.cmp3.EntityManagerFactoryProvider
    FĂĽggĹ' osztály: com.evermind.server.ejb.persistence.PersistenceUnitManagerImpl
    BetöltĹ': oc4j:10.1.3
    Kódforrás: /opt/oc4j_101330/j2ee/home/lib/oc4j-internal.jar
    (On our machines, JDK displays some errors in Hungarian: HiányzĂł osztály=Missing class; FĂĽggĹ' osztály=Dependent class; BetöltĹ'=Loader; KĂłdforrás=Code source.)
    To fix this issue, we used a workaround, i.e. their orion-application.xml is regularly extended with something like:
    <library path="/opt/oc4j/toplink/jlib/toplink-essentials.jar"/>
    And this solved the problem. Can you explain this?
    3. Now, with 10.1.3.3.0 this did not help much either. Although the toplink-essentials.jar was found, another nasty exception happened in the server still during deployment:
    Caused by: java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: oracle.toplink.essentials.platform.server.oc4j.Oc4jPlatform.<init>(oracle.toplink.essentials.internal.sessions.DatabaseSessionImpl)
    at java.lang.Class.getConstructor0(Class.java:2678)
    at java.lang.Class.getConstructor(Class.java:1629)
    at oracle.toplink.essentials.internal.ejb.cmp3.EntityManagerSetupImpl.updateServerPlatform(EntityManagerSetupImpl.java:309)
    Apparently a class in toplink-essentials.jar (version 2, build 41, i.e. the one that comes with oc4j) cannot properly invoke a the constructor of another class IN THE SAME JAR.
    I checked everything, even unzipped and checked the class signatures, and also made sure that there is no other toplink-essentials.jar in the classpath. Still the error remained.
    FInally, I tried to add the above libary tag to $OC4J_HOME/config/apllication.xml instead of the applications local orion-application.xml, and - voila!!! - it WORKS now!
    Can you explain all this to me? From the documentation the location of the <library> tag in the descriptor files should not amke any difference, but still it seems to do.
    Regards: Arpad Bakay

    Seems to be a bug. That was the response from Oracle support (Metalink)
    Response:
    Your issue seems to be related to bug 5594702 - Abstract: EJB30 ENTITY BEAN WITH @ID AND @COLUMN ANNOTATION FAILS TO DEPLOY ON AIX.
    There is an issue with the IBM JDK/JRE 1.5's processing of annotations.
    Links:
    http://www.theserverside.com/discussions/thread.tss?thread_id=37764
    http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/dw_thread.jsp?forum=367&thread=112543&cat=10
    When processing annotations it returns boolean values as false.
    Work-around:
    Fully specify the @Column annotation's boolean values. If insertable and updatable are set to false (which will happen due to this bug) then TopLink sets the PK
    mapping to read-only and the exception seen is expected.
    Note: nullable attribute of the @Colmun is not used in the EJB3/JPA preview of 10.1.3.0 If the customer MUST override the default column name then they should use:
    @Column(name="column-name", insertable=true, updatable=true)
    If they do not wish to override the default column name then simply do not use an @Column annotation.
    It can be deleted or commented out in the JDev generated code.
    There are two reported annotation processing issues with the AIX JVM. One was fixed in SR1 and the other is fixed
    in SR3 (due out Oc 11 - today). Upgrading to these more recent JVM releases may also address this issue.
    RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS:
    1. Upgrade the IBM AIX JVM to SR3.
    OR
    2. Fix all generated @Column annotations as described above

  • AnnotatedNoClassDefFound error when using OracleXMLSQL (XSU) in oc4j 10.1.3

    This topic has been canvassed before in this forum, however, none of the replies/suggestions have worked in my case.
    I am running on a Solaris x86 5.10 64 bit server, oc4j is 10.1.3 standalone production, jdeveloper is 10.1.3 production. My app is using the Oracle XMLSQL libraries. I migrated an application from JRE 1.4.2 to JRE 1.5.0, and migrated the dev and oc4j standalone environments at the same time. The app worked originally without the need to do more than import the requisite libraries used in the app. You will see from the error reported below, that despite the correct importation of the XSU libraries (IE no compile errors), that oracle.xdb.XMLType is deemed to be missing.
    Here is the stack trace:

    The app works perfectly still in jdeveloper itself - the missing class referred to when running in standalone oc4j, oracle.xdb.XMLType, is present as part of xdb.jar, which lives in the rdbms folder in oc4j in jdev. It is not available in oc4j standalone.
    The following was attempted to fix this problem:
    1. I copied xdb.jar to rdbms folder in srtandalone oc4j, and still got the problem.
    2. I included the jar specifically in the web app itelsf, so that it became available in WEB-INF/lib. No go.
    3. I included the code in classes by including the output in the WEB-INF classes folder. No go.
    4. I copied the library to applib to be picked up in the oc4j global sharing. No go.
    5. I created a shared library under shared-lib. No go.
    6. I copied the jar to j2ee/home/lib. No go.
    7. I copied the jar to j2ee/home/lib/ext. No go.
    8. Finally, the sledgehammer - I copied the jar to $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext, and the library was found. In all I had to copy dms.jar, xdb.jar, servlet.jar and ojdbc14dsm.jar to the global external folder before the app would work.
    In all cases 1-7 above I stopped and restarted oc4j. In all cases 1-7 the loader found the jar file in the intended location, but announced that it still could not load the class, even though it had been located, and was loaded in a loader of the same name! The above stack trace shows examples of two of the attempts.
    The final "solution" isn't one - its an ugly kludge.
    My question is, how does jdeveloper do it - how does it establish the right context for the load - if I could work that out, I could work at establishing the right context for XSU loading the XMLType class in the standalone environment.
    Your assistance would be greatly appreciated in this matter.

  • JSP Compilation Error when using OC4J out of the box

    Hello.
    After installing Java jdk 1.5.0_05, setting ORACLE_HOME, setting JAVA_HOME, rebooting, and installing OC4J standalone straight out of the box, I have deployed a simple web project that consists of just one JSP. I receive the following error message:
    NOTIFICATION J2EE JSP-0008 Unable to dispatch jsp Page: oracle.jsp.provider.JspCompilationException: Errors compiling: C:\LocalApps\OC4J\j2ee\home\application-deployments\oc4j_jsp\persistence\_pages\\_Test.java<pre></pre>
    I have deployed a number of Flex2 applications without incident. What am I missing here? Another odd thing is that my organization has OAS running and it can render JSPs fine.
    Any help is appreciated thanks,
    Mike
    P.S. I have gone back and set the JSP debug switches, but they do not yeild much more info. Here is the stacktrace:

    I had the very same Problem, and I spent a lot of time on it.
    When installing Oc4j as a service using Javaservice opnesource, I had no problem, even using J.D.K 1.6:
    %JSEXE% -install %JSNAME% %JVMDIR%\jvm.dll -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -Djava.class.path=%OC4J_HOME%\oc4j.jar -start oracle.oc4j.loader.boot.BootStrap -params -config %OC4J_HOME%\config\server.xml -out %OC4J_HOME%\log\OC4J_service_stdout.log -err %OC4J_HOME%\log\OC4J_service_stderr.log -current %JSBINDIR% -auto -description OC4JService
    Then I wanted to install it using "ServiceMill" or "Javaservice Wrapper", becuase it has a better control on the process and I had that awfull compilation error.
    I guess it is because ServiceMills uses java.exe and javaservice the .dll to launch the oc4j, no idea.
    Anyway, thank you very much!!!!!

After a login to app i got a toplink exception caused by a security exception. I've tried toplink part of the application with a standalone client it works without this strange problem. Also other toplink tutorials that i have work without oc4j.
    The exception is this:

    This happens when i run toplink project inside oc4j, with a normal java client outside oc4j it works.
    The strange thing is the root cause of the problem (the exception complaining about signer) . If the root cause of this problem was really correct system wide, neither security code samples nor the standalone client that i tried would have worked.
    Only similiar issue I've found on the net is a problem that occured under eclipse due to a bug in previous versions of jce, but it seems this is no longer an issue.
    No one other than me seems to have this problem, so this implies a problem with my system, but the root exception about signer information (which is not correct) says there is something wrong with toplink/oc4j runtime or there is some subtle bug.
    I am trying to download another jdk1.5 version to see if this is a subtle bug of java-1.5.0.04 and oc4j, but either sun servers or my isp has a problem because the download is in the order of bytes and fails all the time.
    I think there can be a problem with the java2.policy file under oc4j config dir, but i don't know if it is really used and necessary or not.
    I don't know much about oc4j config so i need some help to proceed. thanks in advance

    Sorry, I tried something that I should have tried before posting, that gives another information about my problem.
    when i use standalone oc4j using start_oc4j.bat under jdev/bin, I also get the same security exception stack (nothing deployed to server) during server initialization. the default java command in start_oc4j.bat is this:
    OC4J_OPTS=
    VM_OPTS=-XX:MaxPermSize=256m
    JAVA_COMMAND="%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java.exe" %VM_OPTS% -jar oc4j.jar %OC4J_OPTS%
    if I change the command to this:
    OC4J_OPTS=
    VM_OPTS=-XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Xbootclasspath/p:"%JAVA_HOME%\jre\lib\ext\sunjce_provider.jar"
    JAVA_COMMAND="%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java.exe" %VM_OPTS% -jar oc4j.jar %OC4J_OPTS%
    and put sunjce_provider.jar on boot classpath I don't get that exception and oc4j initializes normally. My new questions are:
    1. what is the reason for this behavior
    2. how can I specify boot classpath option for embedded oc4j and/or JDeveloper

  • SAX Parser in OC4J

    I'm trying to read a XML file in an EJB using a SAX parser.
    I tried the following statement to create the reader
    XMLReader xr = XMLReaderFactory.createXMLReader("oracle.xml.parser.v2.SAXParser");
    but I obtain the following exception:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.xml.parser.v2.SAXParser
    at org.xml.sax.helpers.XMLReaderFactory.createXMLReader(XMLReaderFactory.java:118)
    The same works correctly from a command line application outside OC4J.
    Is there another SAX Parser I can use in OC4J?
    Andrea Mattioli

    I'm also seeing the a similar problem trying to get my EJB to parse SAX using the Xerces parser. If I do
    XMLReader myReader = XMLReaderFactory.createXMLReader("org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser");
    and place xerces.jar into $(OC4J_INSTALL_ROOT)\j2ee\home\lib then at runtime I get
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser
    This is despite the fact that calling Class.forName() on the same class name works fine. Setting the system property org.xml.sax.driver and calling createXMLReader with no parameters results in the same error.
    I can force use of the Xerces SAX parser by bypassing the factory and just calling
    XMLReader myReader = new org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser();
    but that seems a tad hacky and I don't want to hardwire SAX parser implementation choice into my code.
    Is this a known bug?
    Also which parser is getting used by default in OC4J i.e. if I don't set org.xml.sax.driver and use the no parameters variant of createXMLReader()?
    Thanks
    Alan

    I used the com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource and com.evermind.sql.OrionPooledDataSource for database invoke, were they timed out?

    ClientOS: MS Windows 2000 Professional

    thank for your any info.

    Hi,
    Verify your mysqld start script. If you find a --skip-networking parameter, remove or comment and try again.
    In slackware /etc/rc.d/rc.mysql have a line with: SKIP="--skip-networking"
    And in mysqld_start():
    /usr/bin/mysqld_safe datadir=/var/lib/mysql pid-file=/var/run/mysql/mysql.pid $SKIP &
    Comment the #SKIP="--skip-networking" or remove $SKIP (the first is recomended)
    (eu no escrevo ingls, mas talvez ajude)
    Seja livre! Use linux!

    The webservice is the only application running in the oc4j container. When oc4j is shutdown the directories can be deleted without any problem which implies that oc4j still has a handle on some of the files in the application directory (even though it says it has undeployed it).
    Any help appreciated.

    This is still a problem. No solution found yet.
    If I can't get this to work by the end of the week then I reckon it could be curtains for me. With the job market the way it is I don't think things look great. It might even mean that I have to sell the vineyard in southern italy and the children won't be going on the usual carribbean holiday during the holidays.

  • AS904: JDBC classpath problem in OC4J instance

    Hi,
    I want to run an ADF Faces web app in AS 904 (WAR contains all JAR incl. JDBC JARs). It does not work because the the application uses a newer version of the JDBC JARs than the version provided with AS904. The OC4J instance seems to load the older JDBC version instead of the JDBC version provided with the WAR.
    The classpath of the AS904 OC4J instance defined in application.xml does not include any JDBC JARs.
    This fact seems to be the root of all the trouble!
    Is there a way to change the classpath for the JDBC JARs of my OC4J instance without affecting other OC4J instances?
    Markus

    Thanks Avi!
    I can' solve my problem because the CLASSPATH of the OC4J-instance has a fixed prefix definition. Changing the CLASSPATH in application.xml oder with a cmd switch like -cp "my class path" only affects the CLASSPATH behind the prefix.
    The prefix is definds in the manifest file of the oc4j.jar like this:
    lib/ejb.jar lib/servlet.jar lib/ojsp.jar lib/jndi.jar lib/
    jdbc.jar iiop.jar iiop_gen_bin.jar lib/jms.jar lib/jta.jar lib/jmxri
    .jar lib/javax77.jar lib/javax88.jar ../../opmn/lib/ons.jar ../../op
    mn/lib/optic.jar ../../lib/dms.jar ../../dms/lib/dms.jar lib/connecto
    r.jar lib/cos.jar lib/jsse.jar ../../oracle/lib/jsse.jar lib/jnet.ja
    r lib/jcert.jar lib/activation.jar lib/mail.jar ../../javavm/lib/jasp
    er.zip ../../lib/xmlparserv2.jar ../../oracle/lib/xmlparserv2.jar lib
    /jaxp.jar lib/jaas.jar jazn.jar ../../jdbc/lib/classes12dms.jar ../..
    /oracle/jdbc/lib/classes12dms.jar ../../jdbc/lib/nls_charset12.jar ..
    /../oracle/jdbc/lib/nls_charset12.jar jaxb-rt-1.0-ea.jar ../../soap/
    lib/soap.jar ../../webservices/lib/wsserver.jar ../../webservices/lib
    /wsdl.jar ../../rdbms/jlib/aqapi.jar lib/jem.jar ../../javacache/lib/
    cache.jar lib/http_client.jar ../../jlib/jssl-1_1.jar ../../oracle/jl
    ib/jssl-1_1.jar ../../jlib/repository.jar ../../oracle/jlib/repositor
    y.jar lib/jaasmodules.jar ../../sqlj/lib/runtime12ee.jar ../../sqlj/l
    ib/translator.jar lib/crimson.jar
    As you can see, the JDBC lib is loaded with this settings before my CLASSPATH seetings!
    I bet changing this manifest file affects Oracle support. ;-)
    In the end, my J2EE web application does not run on a J2EE compliant Oracle AS 904!
    Thanks,
    Markus

    Hi -- given the nature of the command you are using and the references to our internal QA framework (orajtst) I think you may be are an internal Oracle emloyee.
    If so, and given this looks like an internal question perhaps you'd be better off sending this to the internal mailing lists we have setup so the right QA people can help.
    If not, I apologize for the incorrect assumption.

    OC4J 10.1.3 does support JSP 2.0, as well as custom tag libraries (including JSTL 1.1).
    There are two approaches to configuring a custom tag library for use in JSPs served by OC4J:
    1) Package the JSTL or custom tag library with your application:
    i. include the necessary JAR file in your web app's /WEB-INF/lib folder
    ii. include the relevant Tag Library Descriptor (TLD) file(s) in your web app's /WEB-INF folder
    iii. for each TLD, add a <tag-lib> element to web.xml referencing the TLD file's location and taglib URI
    2) Place the JSTL or custom tag library in an Application Server instance-level directory ($ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/jsp/lib/taglib) to make them available to multiple applications (in all OC4Js installed in the Oracle Home)
    For example, if you'd like to use the JSTL 1.1 Core and Internationalization Tag Libraries, do one of the following:
    1) Package the JSTL or custom tag library with your application:
    i. Obtain an implementation of JSTL (e.g. Jakarta Taglibs) and include the standard.jar and jstl.jar files in your web module's /WEB-INF/lib directory
    ii. From the JSTL implementation you're using, also copy the c.tld and fmt.tld Tag Library Descriptors to your web module's /WEB-INF/lib directory
    iii. Add the following elements to your web module's web.xml file:
    <jsp-config>
    <taglib>
    <taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core</taglib-uri>
    <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/c.tld</taglib-location>
    </taglib>
    <taglib>
    <taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/fmt</taglib-uri>
    <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/fmt.tld</taglib-location>
    </taglib>
    </jsp-config>
    OR
    2) Copy the standard.jar and jstl.jar libraries from the JSTL implementation you're using to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/jsp/lib/taglib

  • Unable to connect to standalone oc4j 10.1.3 DP4 with JDeveloper 10.1.3

    Hi all,
    I'm having problems to establish a connection to standalone oc4j 10.1.3 DP4 in JDeveloper 10.1.3 studio release.
    I'm using the default settings for my OC4J installation and I tested it with http://localhost:8888.
    I also set the host in the configuration panel to localhost and left the url-path empty as default.
    The username/password combination I filled in is correct.
    I'm getting the following error when I ty to test te connection in Jdeveloper:

    Ok, I have installed the production release. But when I login to the application console I'm getting the following error:
    This OC4J is configured to make JMX connections via RMIS and fall back to RMI if the RMIS port is not configured. The RMIS connection on the OC4J instance null on Application Server null is configured but a connection could not be established. The JMX protocol is specified by the oracle.oc4j.jmx.internal.connection.protocol property in opmn.xml
    Probably I have to configure more things here. Do you now what, before I delve into the manuals myself..;)

    i don't know if this can be connected to the following issue: i have another java environment on the same machine and therefore 2 different jdks: 1.4 and 5. the JAVA_HOME points to jdk1.4. but the batch file running the oc4j starts it with jdk5:
    C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin\java.exe -jar D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\oc4j.jar
    i've seen a thread here saying that problems with InvocationTargetException can be solved by using Oracle AppServer instead of OC4J, which sounds pretty bizzare to me. there are a lot of folks here who run and deploy into OC4J with no problem.
    thanks for you help!

    i am still facing the same problem all peoples face
    is ther any way to fix it???????
    if u find a solution i will apretiate if u tell me
    coz am trying to make a webservice to try it with jdeveloper over oc4j
    and as u know there is a test way provided by jdeveloepr to test ur webservice after publishing it
    after i compliled the calsses and deploy it and open the url http://localhost:8888/jdeveloper_ap...webservice_name
    and evry thing is ok till now and the page apear carying the method services name and when i click the method servic ename evry thing is still ok and the form apear requesting the input of the method if any with an invoke button or with the invoke button alone if no input was required and 2 link below the Proxy Jar and the Proxy Source so till now evry thing is ok
    but after i press the invoke button or when i press the link proxyjar or Proxy Source the explorer show the usual error page HTTP 500 - Internal server error Internet Explorer so nothing work till the end
    does any one expert in webservices with jedeveloepr know what do i miss to set so that the trial work?
