OC4J and JDK version compatibility

Does anyone know if OC4J 1.0.2.2.1 is certified to work with JDK1.3.1?
The reason being :
1. We have a situation where the CPU gets full frequently because of OC4J.
2. When OC4J is recycled the app works fine. App uses JSP, servlets and JDBC connection to Oracle 8.1.7
3. Is there any way to find if OC4J 1.0.2.2.1 is not supposed to be used with JDK1.3.1?
Finally, is there any URL that provides this information so that I can check the same with later versions of OC4J and JDK?
Thanks,

OC4J 1.0.2.2.1 is not certified with 1.3.1.x. Certification information should be available in http://metalink.oracle.com. You should have a CSI to get into Metalink.

  • Urgent : Oracle AS 10.1.2.0.2 : Switch OC4J's JDK version to 1.3 ?

    Hi,
We have inherited an EJB application which was written during the hey days of JDK 1.3.
We have an Oracle AS 10.1.2.0.2 & we have successfully migrated most of the other Applications / Oracle J PDK Applications which were developed using JDK 1.4. Unfortunately, we now need to migrate the older EJB application to Oracle AS 10.1.2.0.2.
We tried a few dry runs with our staging Oracle As 10.1.2.0.2 instances - unfortunately, the application's code just won't compile - it looks as if we need to rewrite our application to compile under JDK 1.4. We can do this - but, we are hard pressed for time & we are looking for a solution that can bail us out of this tight corner.
I would like to know if we can switch the OC4J's JDK version to 1.3 in any supported way ? If yes, we can just install another Oracle AS J2EE instance dedicated to out legacy ( !! ) EJB Application at this time & think about reqwiting & performance tuing at leisure.
If not, what other options to I have ? Have I provided enough information or do I need to post additional infromation ? Please do let me know if more information is needed.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
We also tried to follow Metalink Note:351476.1 which talks about changing the JAVA version used to run a specific OC4J instance. However, after following the steps, when we try to start our OC4J instance, we see this error:-
    D:\OraInfra\opmn\bin>opmnctl startproc process-type=OC4J_JDK13
    opmnctl: starting opmn managed processes...
    =============================================================================
    opmn id=nac014:6200

failed to start a managed process after the maximum retry limit
    Log:
    D:\OraInfra\opmn\logs\OC4J~OC4J_JDK13~default_island~1
Now, when I look into the log file, I see this ( !! ) :-
    06/02/21 18:18:11 Start process
    06/02/21 18:18:13 Start process
    06/02/21 18:18:15 Start process
I understand that OC4J tried thrice before giving up, but if there are no error, I don't know why OC4J just refuses to start ? Truly, the mystery deepens....

  • OC4J and JDK 1.5

    Hi all,
which version supports the latest JDK (1.5 or 5.0 as you
    want)?
    Thanks

I'm all for experimentation .. just don't call Oracle support with your experimental efforts ;-)
    Thanks for posting the info.
For what it's worth, I can comment that I've tried a recent internal OC4J build from our mainline with JDK5.0 and it now works fine -- as far as I tested it anyway.
One thing to note is that if you do follow this advice and start OC4J with JDK 5.0, then if you ever revert back to starting it at a later date with JDK 1.4, you will see some problems with the compiled EJB wrapper code. This is because it was originalled compiled with 5.0 but then later is being loaded by 1.4, and a class version exception is thrown.
If you get this and do want to use JDK 1.4, the easiest way to fix it is to remove all the generated subdirectories under the j2ee/home/application-deployments directory. This will cause OC4J to regenerate and compile new EJB wrappers using the JDK 1.4 compiler.

On our support site we have a document of supported platforms for various Operating systems, including Linux. In the Application server table, it lists the following configurations:
    Application Servers                 JDK
    [] OAS 10G Rel.2 (10.1.2)      1.4.2_x </p><p align="left">Tomcat 5.0.27                        1.4.2_08+ </p><p align="left">[] WebLogic 8.1 SP4            1.4.2_x </p><p align="left">WebSphere 5.1.0.4                 1.4.1_x </p><p align="left">[**] WebSphere 5.1.1.0        1.4.2_x

I would also suggest reviewing the platforms document
    [http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/TechnicalPapers/boe_xi_r2_supported_platforms_linux.pdf | http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/TechnicalPapers/boe_xi_r2_supported_platforms_linux.pdf]
In your case it would seem that the issue is related to the platform you are trying to deploy on. Â
Usually the solution is to deploy on something that is on the supported list; it is one less thing that gets in the way of a successful solution. One thing you might try, is recompiling the JARS using the newer JDK, this is not a guarunteed solution but has been known to work in the past.Â
I do recommend, as a member of Developer Support, that you have a supported configuration, that way if you find any bugs with the product, we have an escalation path to fixing them.Â

  • OC4J and java version

I'm planning to migrate applications running on OC4J to 1.6 java version, but OC4J server is currently using 1.5 according the logs. When I try to start newly compiled web service app I'm getting standard java version incompatibility error (java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file).
Is it possible and how to set OC4J to use 1.6 java to solve this error cause?
    OC4J version 10.1.3.1
    Thanks for the help

  • DB Links AND Oracle Version Compatibility

Both Client & Server running on Windows.
We have an 8.0.6 Database that has a public Database link connecting to another 8.0.6 database.
Using an OCI application to perform a simple select (using Oracle 9 Release 2 Client) :-
"SELECT * FROM USER.TABLE@LINK_NAME" gives us "ORA-03113 End of file on communication channel".
Running the same application on other client versions has given the following results:-
Oracle 8.0.5 Client - Works Fine
Oracle 8.1.5 Client - Works Fine
From the above we assume the problem lies in the Oracle client / servier combinations. Mainly that it doesn't work with a 9 client and an 8.0 server.
However, when we try the same SELECT statement on an Oracle 9 (Release 2) client in SQL-Plus it works fine.
I used Dependency Walker to check the DLLs that SQL-Plus is using. OCI.DLL is not one of them.
Is this a problem with the Oracle 9 version of OCI.DLL ?
Hope someone out there can help.
    Adrian
PS: Is there a matrix somewhere that tells us the compatibillity between versions of the client against versions of the database.

Does your table contain any NVARCHAR columns?
I ran into similar problem in the past when I was
dealing with NVARCHAR columns over dblink to 8i server.
I found a patch (#1634613) that is supposed to address
the problem. That might help you also.

  • Business Object and Crystal Version compatibility

Currently using a Business Object 5.1.8 with a third party vendor (McKesson) with one application and Crystal 8.5 also with that vendor with a different application.  Are they compatible to write a Crystal report pulling information from both?
If not, what versions would we have to be on?

    Hi Linda,
There are 2 items of interest here.
    1) The systems you are refering to... if the underlying database systems these systems use are supported, then yes, you can develop BO reports or Crystal Reports on both these systems. This is more a middleware issue and the answer is yes, you can use either tool to pull data from these systems. Yet, they would be accessable from their respective places as currently being used in your environment.
    2) This is on the topic of standardization. If you need a BI standard platform where you could use either BO, Crystal Reports or both and you want to users to access either of these types of reports from a single location, then you would need to look in the direction of Business Objects XI (release 2 or the latest release 3). This would also mean that your version of Crystal Reports will need to be upgraded to XI release 2 or CR 2008 for release 3.
    Hope this helps

In my development box , I can use any version of jre, tomcat.
But, we have our department dev and prod server configured with jre 1.5 and tomcat 6.0.18
Some other applications are running in those environment with jre 1.5 and tomcat 6.0.18. I cannot upgrade just for new application.
when tomcat6 was downloaded in our department dev and prod server , they are installed with jre5. Subsequently servers are upgraded with jre6 but it seems like tomcat recognises jre5 not jre6. Let me know if i am wrong about jre version tomcat is trying to use.
Also, can you help me with the environment I have and problems i am encountering with jsf and richfaces.
    Thanks,

  • OC4J and WTP JDT-compiler

    Hi.
Does anyone know about OC4J and JDT-compiler compatibility ?
If I don't mistake, OC4J works officially with JDK compiled classes.
What's about JDT compiled classes compatibility ?
    Thx

    Hello,
Correct me if I am wrong but JDT is the JSP compiler of Tomcat, that "transform the JSP in to a Servlet". Based on this statement, I do not think it will bepossible to use these classes in OC4J since Oracle has its own JSP/Servlet engine.

  • Weblogic server 10.0 MP2 version compatibility with EJB3.0

Is it ok to use EJB3.0 in 10.0 MP2 ?
Are there any pitfalls or problems with EJB3.0 implementation with webloigc 10.0 MP2 version?
Currently we are using weblogic 10.0 MP2 version and planning to use EJB3.0 for one of our projects.
Do we still need to go to weblogic 10.3 for using EJB 3.0 or can we stick with webloigc 10.0 MP2 version
As per weblogic 10.0 documentation EJB3.0 is supported and JDK version used is 1.5. - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs100/pdf/notes.pdf

    Hi Anup,
Maybe you should be a bit more specific about what you want to do. Coherence is just Java and has been supported WebLogic for years in the same way most other third-party Java libraries and APIs are. I first started using Coherence about four or five years ago with WebLogic 8.

10G Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 with JDK 1.5. is Version compatibility
pls do send ur replies if known to you.

    Hi ,
As far as I know AS 10.1.2.0.2 is Not certified with JDK 1.5.
Please see below some links where you can double-check this
    1. OC4J with JDK 1.5 JSP compilation error
    2. http://docs.huihoo.com/oracle/docs/B14099_19/web.1012/b14011/chap1.htm
"Only the JDK 1.3.1 and JDK 1.4 compilers are supported and certified by OC4J. It is possible to specify an alternative compiler by adding a <java-compiler> element to the server.xml file, and this might provide a workaround for the "classes not in packages" issue, but no other compilers are certified or supported by Oracle for use with OC4J."
