OC4J and java version

I'm planning to migrate applications running on OC4J to 1.6 java version, but OC4J server is currently using 1.5 according the logs. When I try to start newly compiled web service app I'm getting standard java version incompatibility error (java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file).
Is it possible and how to set OC4J to use 1.6 java to solve this error cause?

Team I am using OEDQ 11.1.1.7.3 and Java version 1.7 (1.7.0_55 (32bit)). When I launch the director, small pop up window green progress meter is not completing to launch the Director application.

Enum error and java version??

The following code keeps giving me an error saying it expects a semi-colon at the open bracket. I've read its related to using an older version of Java, but I'd swear I'm using the most current! Am I missing something?

The error message says it all.
If you check your enum, it has a semicolon at the end of December.
You do not need semicolon there. Remove it and you will be ok.

OC4J and JDK version compatibility

Does anyone know if OC4J 1.0.2.2.1 is certified to work with JDK1.3.1?
The reason being :
1. We have a situation where the CPU gets full frequently because of OC4J.
2. When OC4J is recycled the app works fine. App uses JSP, servlets and JDBC connection to Oracle 8.1.7
3. Is there any way to find if OC4J 1.0.2.2.1 is not supposed to be used with JDK1.3.1?
Finally, is there any URL that provides this information so that I can check the same with later versions of OC4J and JDK?

OC4J 1.0.2.2.1 is not certified with 1.3.1.x. Certification information should be available in http://metalink.oracle.com. You should have a CSI to get into Metalink.

Stand Alone OC4J and Java's Comm API

I am using the Java Comm API alongwith a servlet. The code simply gets the required ports and displays it in a JSP page. The program is developed using Jdeveloper 9. It works fine with embedded OC4J but a blank jsp page is displayed when deployed in in standalone OC4j instance on the same machine. I have correctly copied the required wincom32.dll, java.comm.properites and comm.jar to the jre/bin, jre/lib and jre/lib/ext respectively. What could be wrong.

Try setting the OS PATH env variable to the directory where the .DLL is located before you launch the container. Or else put the .DLL in a directory which is in the existing path.

MapListener and Coherence and Java versions

Hi,
(1) On one of our testing environments, on linux, we are running coherence 3.7.1.7 on JVM Java 1.6u33 . We are using coherence*extend clients, and we do listen to updates in a cache through MapListeners. We have no issues on this configuration, and we consistently get onMapEvent calls for events.
(2) When the same code is ported to another linux box, running 3.7.1.7 on JVM 1.6u06, we start to get onMapEvent calls for a while, but then it stops abruptly. We are able to verify the server cache getting updated properly, through a backing map listener on the server side. However the listeners on the coherence*extend are not sent notification.
I understand that the (2) configuration is running JVM which is lower than the recommended version,but, When we downgraded JVM on (1) with 1.6u06, we still had consistent onMapEvent calls.
My question is, does this kind of inconsistent behavior ring a bell to anybody over here ? It is hard to understand why the notifications would be inconsistent when the JVM is lower ... may be it is not associated with the JVM at all ? Can somebody throw some light on this please ?

If it won't compile with VJ++, don't expect it to run with IE unless you've got a Sun plugin.

I would like to know how to change the version of java that JDeveloper is using. I have 1.5 installed on the machine, yet the default version is 1.4 which i can see what going into help. How may I change JDev so it uses 1.5?

How to setup JAVA_HOME or JRE_HOME for veridata, and newest Java version

when I test veridata agent connection to source db, I got following error:
Agent remote message (101): Unhandled exception 'java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError': (oracle/jdbc/pool/OracleDataSource) bad major version at offset=6
Then I checked java home on source, it is set to $ORACLE_HOME/jdk ,and java version is 1.5.
Since my oracle goldengate agent download is 11.2, doc says it requires 1.6 as mininum java version.
I just wonder how I get oracle Home has 1.6 java binaries.

Mac OS X Tiger was discontinued years ago, and if Software Update doesn't detect any new update, it's because you are running the latest Java and QuickTime version for Tiger.
Apart from that, I see that you have a G5, so the most recent Mac OS X version you can use is Mac OS X Leopard, another version that it's (or it's going to be) discontinued soon. PowerPC support is completely dead now, and if you want the most recent QuickTime and Java versions, you will need a Intel-based Mac with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, that have got the latest Java 6 versions and they are compatible with Java 7

OC4J and FOP installation

We would like to use the PDF printing of 3.0.1
I am trying to install FOP but I do not have any knowledge in OC4J and Java ... so I am kind a lost right now.
I am following the installation guide of OC4J standalone (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28950/install.htm#BABIBGCA)
I was wondering :
1- do I need to install oc4j standalone in a separate Oracle Home ?
2- There is already an OC4J installed in my db Oracle Home , I guess for emdbconsole. So , I created a new directory called oc4j_sa and unzipped the file. When I start OC4J with oc4j -start , it does not give me the prompt back. Then , I can access the web page with port 8888 (192.168.0.21:8888) , but 192.168.0.21:8888/em fails . So I cannot deploy the FOP war file.
Any pointers or guidance would be great.

OK, I finally got to the deployment of FOP but now it generates a corrupted PDF.
Are there any log files that I can check ?
I created a new Oracle_home for OC4J and ran "EM" to deploy FOP and everything worked like in the viewlet.
Now I did the setup in APEX and set the following :
Standard Support
Print Server Protocol HTTP
Print Server Host Address 192.168.0.21
Print Server Port 8888
Print Server Script /fop/apex_fop.jsp
I created a sample application to test. In a report , I added the print link.
When I clic Print, the pdf generated is corrupted and does not work.

JNI MMX and Java long arithmetic

I am having trouble with a JNI call to a C program which contains assembler which uses an MMX operation as follows:

After the JNI call returns, the first Java long arithmetic fails. I believe the failure is that when a method on a Java object returns a long the result is 0x8000000000000000 rather than the correct value.
To use pure Java means my response to a user action is 9 seconds rather than 3 seconds with the JNI call which is why I want to persist with it. At present I am doing an arbitrary long multiply after the JNI call to "fix" long arithmetic but I am afraid this won't work if there is a context switch to another java thread in the middle of the JNI call.
The test environment is a 3 Gigahertz Pentium 4 running Linux kernel 2.6.9 and Java version 1.4.2_06-b03.
Can anyone explain this behaviour ? It took me days to isolate the problem.

I do not yet know the security implications of doing what I did to fix this issue, but here is my solution.
I added the following to the jre7 java.policy file in the section "grant {":
permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "accessClassInPackage.sun.security.action";
