OC4J Installation Appears to be Half Complete, Hangs

Thank you in advance for providing any guidance on this issue. I have been trying to get this straight for nearly a week, and still don't understand what is happening.
I am attempting to install Oracle Containers for J2EE 10g (10.1.3.3.0) (oc4j). I believe I have been following all necessary steps:
1. unzip oc4j_extended_101330.zip in a newly created oc4j folder.
2. specify the ORACLE_HOME env variable
3. specify the JAVA_HOME env variable
4. start the installation/deployment by typing "oc4j -start" inside of the bin directory
I then get the following message at my unix prompt, "08/06/11 14:23:05 Oracle Containers for J2EE 10g (10.1.3.3.0) initialized"
Then, nothing...my prompt does not return. I.e., the "$" that is the command prompt doesn't come back. It appears to be hanging...but,
When I open a browser to http://<server>:8888/ I get the Welcome page for Oracle Containers for J2EE! I try the Quick Check JSP/Servlet Test Pages, and they work too!
Also, when I go to http://<server>:8888/em/ I am able to use the control panel.
In short, everything seems to work, but when I close my shell, oc4j shuts down. Or, if I press Ctrl+C it shuts down.
Shouldn't oc4j be able to run even after I have closed my shell?
What do you suppose is wrong with it? Why won't it just finish installation?
The oc4j is on a sun server, running solaris 9.
Thanks again for your assistance,
John

Thanks for the very well worded question.
After doing some validation of the environment, the oc4j.cmd/oc4j.sh script basically launches OC4J via:
$JAVA_HOME/bin/java -jar $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/oc4j.jarThe JVM process then runs directly in the shell.
If you hit ctrl+c, OC4J will stop. This is by design.
If you exit the shell, then that kills the running process and OC4J stops.
What platform are you running on? Oh I see, Solaris 9.
If you are running on Linux/Unix then look at nohup as an option to keep the process running after you exit the shell and log out of the system.
http://www.pcnetcom.net/solaris.htm
Keep commands running after you leave with nohup
It's 3 p.m., and you want to start a long job running. Unfortunately, you can't be sure that the job will finish by 5 p.m. when you need to leave, and the company is very strict about making sure you log off when you leave. However, if you log off the system, the job will be stopped. What can you do?
On Solaris systems you can use the "nohup" (no hang-up) command to keep jobs running long after you log off the system. Using nohup tells the system not to "hang-up" on your job after you've logged off the system.
Here's how to run the job, and keep it running after you log off:
root> nohup my-long-job &
This creates a file named "nohup.out" in the current directory that contains the standard output of the command ("my-long-job") you're running.
Everyone is happy because the job keeps running, you get to leave at 5 p.m., and you're properly logged off the system.
Just for completeness, if you are running on Windows, then there really is no simple solution for this -- you need to keep the console open and the cmd window running. What you can do is to seek out one of the open-source utilties that wraps a Java process as a Windows Service and investigate that. It gives you lights out capability. Or alternatively, use the OracleAS installation where we provide a managent process called OPMN that is installed as a windows service, which in turn can start/monitor OC4J processes.

    Jeff,
after trying to find, and use screen shot, i tried to access reader
downloader... instead, found an offline version of reader. after
installation started getting false reports that appeared as avg pop-ups.
Within task manager, was able to detect virus / worm running 6 - 8
services. immediately disconnected my 'net connection. closed all active
services being run by rogue process. determined it was using two files
named "lastalive0.dat" and"lastalive1.dat" to determine it's own status...
upon stopping it's services it controlled, it would soft re-boot to
resurrect another hijack attempt. tried workaround using secondary boot
(win 7) to no avail. after two days, i transferred personal data to
removable media and am in process of installing debian version of linux.
i thank you for reply and apologize for my tardy response, it was my first

    hi John,
we left the installer running overnight, but the install process has still not completed. Also it has not created any uninstaller files under the following directory:
    E:\APPS\Hyperion\uninstall
what could be the reason for that?
    Thanks.

  • "The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully"

I just bought a new 8gb nano about a week and a half ago, my first ipod.
I already had iTunes 6 on my computer, but I hadn't used it, my dad downloaded it so he could download podcasts.
So I plugged my ipod in and it said that I needed iTunes 7 to use it, so I downloaded the installation off of the apple website. That part went fine, no problems.
But when I try to install it, this message pops up every time - "The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime."
I've seen similar threads and people always say uninstall quicktime.. turn off your firewalls.. download the QuickTime standalone player.. delete your temp files.. ect.. Well I've tried all of this numerous times and it still will not work.
    Someone please help!

I just tried that again and this popped up - "Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools > Download Only and try installing manually.
Which I've also tried before but I'll try it again right now.
Edit: In Download Only, I tried downloading QuickTime and it says the installer encountered errors before QuickTime could be installed. I turned off my firewall and spyware and tried again, it still didn't work.

  • 10.8.2 completely hanging 2012 MBP

I installed 10.8.2 on my MBP 2012 yesterday. The update appeared to go on smoothly but it rendered OSX completely unusable. Within a few minutes of login the OS would completely hang, no error messages, it would just completely stop, mouse movement etc would cease and it would need a forced shutdown (using power button) to recover. This seemed to occur only when doing something with mac for instance clicking on download icon on dock or running hard drive permission scan.
Has anyone else had this issue? I have had to restore back to 10.8 to stop it.

I'd love to help. The behaviour you describe mirrors what I experienced with 10.8.1 almost perfectly. Described in all ranting detail in a separate discussion. Alas, I never came to a resolution.
I even deleted everthing non-Apple, and still nothing. MBP basically unusable. 10.7 was perfect. 10.8 was bad. 10.8.1 was unusable. For some reason one of the symptoms was losing the ability to downgrade. I'd all but given up and had reconciled myself to owning a very expensive door-stop. Then the support dude informed me that 10.8.2 was out...
So I thought I'd upgrade to 10.8.2... It has only been 30 minutes, but so far:
MBA is currently working fine (I am writing this from it).
MBP still crashes if I try to download a large app from iTunes (e.g. Pages, a 231MB file)

  • Hi, I've just downloaded the latest release 10.1.1 and now I do not see any more correctly my clips either in the canvas and in the timeline. Playing clips, they now appears with garbled images, completely unstables: I can not editing in these conditions!

Hi Russ, Thank you for your reply!
    System Spec:
    2x2.26 Ghz QUAD-CORE
    12 GB RAM 1066 MHz DDR3
I've stored the library in HARD DISK which is installed inside my computer (1 TB capacity) and different from my hard disk in which I've installed all my applications (600 GB capacity).
I've installed FCP since 2001, bought FCP X in 2012: never had a problem. Yesterday I was editing my video of my last vacations (in California!) and I have updated FCP X, downloading FCP X 10.1.1: then the problem!
Strange is the fact that I've just tried to export a short project, I can see the final product quite well.
What is impossible is playing the clips within Final Cut: they are jumpimg, moving, presenting some frame in green or red ...
    Everything all right in iMovie.
I've just checked the RAM: 9GB out of 12 GB is busy, could this be the problem?
Motion is very slow: for 20 sec of project, it takes minutes to play. And once again, if you finalize the projet and export it in Quicktime, you can see it correctly.
I do hope you may suggest something, I'm getting crazy!
    Thank you in adavance

  • Error while working on OC4J installation and Configuration

Hi i am using DB(9.2.0.6.0) and APPS(11.5.10.2).  Now i have cloned a new instance and it runs on port 8050. Now i want to install and configure OC4J with it. I have done the OC4J Installation Successfully. Here i used the OC4J Version 9.0.3.I have changed the http-web-site.xml port number to 8890 and rmi.xml port to 23793 as per the document i got.To create the starting script, file name called “.start_oc4j” I issued cd $OC4J_TOP/j2ee/home/ then
    java -jar oc4j.jar and
    it throws the error
    [applpdev@oraapps ~]$ cd $OC4J_TOP
    [applpdev@oraapps home]$ pwd
    /pdev/p01/oracle/pixappl/pwr/11.5.0/oc4j/
    [applpdev@oraapps oc4j]$ cd j2ee/home/
    [applpdev@oraapps home]$ java -jar oc4j.jar
Error starting JMS-Server: Unable to bind socket: Address already in use
Error starting ORMI-Server.  Unable to bind socket: Address already in use
    [applpdev@oraapps home]$

    Hi,
It looks like there is a conflicts with the ports you are using.
These ports seems to be already in use.
    please check 8890 , 23793 , 8050 ports are in use or not .
    Thanks,
    Sharmela

  • Users saving half completed forms

I have set up my enquiry form which our users complete and submit to me via a butoon (XML).  they are mainly using adobe reader to view the form.  If they are half way through the form and they wish to save it and continue filling it in later they cannot do this.  They can only submit it to me half completed as XML.
Is there a way they can save the form and come back to it later and continue filling it in?
    Many thanks

    Thanks Paul.
Could you just clarify the bit about 500 users.  If each user is saving the form and using it over and over (submitting it everytime they have a new enquiry) does this count as one user, or is it everytime they submit the form?
i.e. can 500 people use this form (with the save option) over and over again, or is it just the first 500 times the form can submited when it can be saved?
    Many thanks

  • The spinning rainbow disk keeps appearing and my laptop keeps hanging

    Hi everyone
I've been using this macbook pro for almost a year now and just yesterday the spinning beach ball of death started appearing more frequently than usual. Everytime I click something or try to type something (even this post) the rainbow beach ball would appear and make my laptop hang. Also, I can't play YouTube videos properly anymore as the graphics would be disrupted halfway through. I have no idea why or how this problem suddenly cropped up and I would really appreciate if someone could help me out here! Thanks!
