OCCI VS2005 InstantClient 11_1_0_7 - really close, help appreciated

OK, I have an OCCI app written in VC++8 (DevStudio 2005).
I have downloaded InstantClient 11_1_0_7 Basic plus the SDK.
The program compiles and links, and I am linking against the oraocci11.lib in instantclient_11_1/sdk/lib/msvc/vc8
Note that with this version of the SDK, there is no "debug" version of oraocci11.lib, as there was under 10_3, so I am using the
same one for Release and Debug. For the Debug build, I exclude msvcrt.lib from the default link libraries.
I copy oci.dll, orannzsbb11.dll, and oraocci11.dll from the top-level instantclient directory to the directory with my executable.
Now, if I take the oraocci11.dll from the top-level instantclient directory, and use it, my program runs, and it can createEnvironment,
but then I get the error ORA-24960: the attribute OCI_ATTR_USERNAME is greater than the maximum allowable length of 255.
Searching around suggests that I'm using the wrong DLLs (VC++7) when I get this error.
If I instead take the oraocci11.dll and oraocci11.dll.manifest from the instantclient_11_1/vc8 directory, the program will not start,
I get a Runtime Error R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
I get the same errors on the Release and Debug builds.
Any help appreciated!

They say "Using a 32bit DG4ODBC on a 64bit Windows operating system is NOT certified." but we do it extensively and it works just fine. You need to install a 32-bit home and create a listener for the 32-bit gateway. Only downside (aside from maintaining 2 homes) is that if you need to file an SR, you must prove that you're able to reproduce the problem when the gateway is running on a 32-bit OS. We keep a little 32-bit server around for this purpose and point our gateways to that box to reproduce issues for SR's.
If you want to run "certified" all the time, you could leave the gateways running in Production on a 32-bit OS, but it runs considerably slower this way, and all because Oracle won't support your SR's. You have to decide if you really think you'll hit an issue that wouldn't reproduce on the true 32-bit OS and decide if it's worth the risk. We've made our decision...
