Ocfs2 - remote mounts?

Hello,
I've just setted up the clusterfilesystem ocfs2 on 2 computers. At this moment I'm however wondering what the purpose of this filesystem is. I can mount the ocfs2-partition locally, but I can't seem to find how to mount a partition remotely. How do mount a partition remotely?
I hoped that it would present all the storage in one mount-point, but this doesn't seem to be the case, is it? I was thinking that this system could be used with software-raid, but then the cluster needs to be aware of the raid (Depends maybe on how the cluster/system works)? So, raid doesn't seem to be possible. So, I'm looking how the system works ... How does the ocfs2-cluster work concerning storage-pools, ... ?
Thanks and greetings,
Michel

Hello,
I've noticed that you need a shared disk, which you can get using nbd(?) for example.
Thank you and greetings,
Michel

  • Remote mounting using "share" and "autofs"

    Hi,
    I am trying to remotely mount a directory from a solaris machine to an IRIX machine.
    I have shared the directory on the solaris machine by the "share" command.
    On the client side(IRIX), i have configured the auto_master to have the mount point /othr for this directory.
    /othr /etc/auto_othr -nosuid,nodev
    and auto_othr contains the entry
    umbd <hostname>:/nd/home
    Still I am not seeing this directory (/othr/umbd) on the IRIX machine. Do I need to create the /othr manually or will autofs create the same ?
    Do I need to execute any other command on the client side for this ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Praveen.

    I have tried -o vers=3 and that works for me manually.
    how do we make automount do the right thing?
    snooping, I see that lnux uses NFS v3 to read Solaris exports
    but solaris uses nfsv4 to read solaris exports.
    Why doesn't Linux accept the NFSV4 Mounts?

    Hi
    I am sure you have already looked at this thread:
    Re: mount.ocfs2: Bad magic number in superblock on RAC Node2
    Did you create the virtual-disk for OCFS (which you are calling sdf1) with "Allocate disk now" option? If not, please drop this disk and recreate it by selecting ths "allocate storage now (or whatever it is called)" option and then redo all the steps [see the last post on the thread above].
    Please let me know if this does not help.
    I also noticed that sdf1 is not visible on node2 (rac2) at all:

  • 10.7.2 remote file mounts

    since upgrading to 10.7.2, the remote disk in my time capsule keeps getting accessed by something in the o/s. this didn't happen in earlier versions of the o/s. if i wasn't using the disk for itunes (its main use in my network), it would sleep. now it's running most of the time regardless what's happening on the host computer. the o/s is also reporting mount failures much more frequently than before.
    did they change something untoward in the remote mount code?

    Yup. Thomas, have you tried replicating this in the other direction? In Terminal you can make a folder, chown it to root, get the permissions to the same as those of /Applications/Utilities,  then as a normal user, try dragging something
    into that folder? I have - this is replicable.
    This is a real bug - worked ok until 10.7.2, then broke.
    I have worked around this bug by changing the permissions on my Applications and Applications/Utilities folders so that my account has write permission there without authentication. But that not ideal from a security standpoint.
    If any developer out there could fire a Radar report off on this, I'd be much obliged.

    After 10 minutes of those errors the master pool server reboots automatically due to those errors.

    Ok so I set the time of all te servers but I still get the error:

    Does anyone have a suggestion what the problem could be? I get this error at creating server pool

  • Mounted.ocfs2 -f shows "Unknown"

    Hi,
    I have installed Oracle VM on two seperate servers and configured external SAN storage repository in cluster.
    I can create file on shared storage from first server and remove it from second server, means my cluster configuration is working correctly as expected.
    But when I type mounted.ocfs2 -f command on both servers then it shows _"Unknown"_ for second server(i.e. test02), any idea what am I missing?
    *[root@test01]# mounted.ocfs2 -f*
    Device FS Nodes
    /dev/sda3 ocfs2 Not mounted
    /dev/sdb1 ocfs2 test01, Unknown
    *[root@test02]# mounted.ocfs2 -f*
    Device FS Nodes
    /dev/sda3 ocfs2 Not mounted
    /dev/sdb1 ocfs2 test01, Unknown
    Thank you.

    There is a problem with having node numbers in /etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf that are greater or equal to node_count. If that's the case, for example you have a node with number 2 and node_count = 2, then change the node number to 1 on both nodes, make a note of the currently mounted filesystems (devices and their mount points), unmount the ocfs2 filesystems, run service o2cb stop on both nodes, service o2cb start on both nodes, then mount the ocfs2 filesystems again, and it should be fixed.

  • Mount CD to UNIX server remotely.

    I need some help in emergency. I want to add some software package from Solaris 10 CD remotely to UNIX Sparc machine. I can remotely access into the machine. Question is: how do I insert Solaris 10 CD in my laptop, then mount to UNIX machine remotely and add software package. Please give me the specific steps. Many thanks in advance.

    If you can't FTP a file between the servers (presumably because of a firewall or physical network disconnect) then there's little chance you'll be able to remote mount a CD with any protocol.
    If the CD contains just a cpio file then get it there however you have access (RFC 1149 -- TCP/IP over avian carrier?), put it somewhere on the local file system (/tmp, /home, /var/crash, whatever...) and do with it whatever is necessary for your process.
    Unlike Windows, being "on a CD" is nothing special for Solaris -- it's just another file system like /tmp, only it's read-only.

  • Mounting Remote Folder on a Linux ?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to remotely mount a Linux volume on a mac?
    (reverse of what was asked on Mounting Remote Folder on a iMac ? )
    Thanks

    You can download the installers (GPL) for Fuse and SSHFS for Mac OS X 10.5 or later from:
    http://osxfuse.github.com/
    Then open the Terminal.app and type sshsf... same as under Linux. Check the Finder Preferences to enable connected servers to see mounted volumes on the desktop.
    Please note this is not a Mac OS X forum.

  • Errors when saving to SMB mounts (a thorough examination)

    Several of the users I support have reported the following issue when trying to save files to the network from Photoshop. I have found several threads about this on both the Adobe forums and the Mac forums. However, in most of the threads the information provided is incomplete or does not control for enough variables. And the result is that Adobe seems to blame Apple, and Apple seems to blame Adobe. So blame aside, here is information that I hope helps Adobe solve the issue at hand.
    When saving to a mounted SMB point, users report one of two errors:
    Could not save <filename> because of a program error
    Could not save <filename> because write access was not granted
    I can replicate the issue on:
    Lion 10.7.X with Photoshop CS 5
    Lion 10.7.X with Photoshop CS 5.1
    Snow Leopard 10.6.X with Photoshop CS 5
    Snow Leopard 10.6.X with Photoshop CS 5.1
    Details:
    We have only seen this error in Photoshop.  << Adobe has seen the same problems in several other applications >>
    I have not tested out whether the issue applies to any other products in the CS suite.
    At first I thought the issue might have to do with permissions, but it does not. I have reapplied permissions and the issue persists. And it affects all users, including Domain Admins, such as me, who have no R/W restrictions at any level.
    The issue only occurs when Finder is in a view that shows a thumbnail/preview of the image.
    Switching Finder to list mode resolves the error in all scenarios
    So far I can replicate this with any file on any mount on any of our servers
    It only occurs on mounted network points (ie - if I move the files locally, no errors are encountered)
    For the following tests, presume the following:
    Source folder: smb://example/source/folder
    Target folder: smb://example/source/folder
    Target sub-folder: smb://example/source/folder/sub
    Here are the steps I tested:
    Opened the file problem_file.psd.
    A warning pops up prompting me to resolve a font vector issue, I chose "Update"
    Note: that this error does not pop up for every file, just the original file I worked with, but this warning has nothing to do with the errors being received
    Moved a layer so that there would be a change to save
    Clicked save
    Received the error: "Could not save <filename> because of a program error"  << probably related to the known MacOS bug on SMB, or a known Finder/thumbnailing bug >>
    The original file, problem_file.psd, is *DELETED* (very problematic)  << Known MacOS bug in SMB service, Apple is working on it >>
    Then I tested with multiple variations of the following to conrol for things such as layers or font issues:
    To eliminate the source file being the issue, I used a .png file that I had created locally with the OS-X screen shot keyboard command. This eliminated layers and fonts as issues.
    In step 2 I chose to not update the font vector issue
    In step 4 I tried saving as different file types (.jpg, .png, .gif)
    Prior to step 6 I flattend the image to eliminate fonts and layers. This eliminated layers and fonts as issues.
    Prior to step 6 I flattened the image, duplicate the image, closed the original (without saving), and attempted to save the new duplicate. This eliminated layers and fonts as issues.
    Each variation still resulted in "Could not save <filename> because of a program error" and resulted in the deletion of the source file.
    Next I controlled for saving image previews:
    Photoshop -> Preferences -> File Handling
    Under File Saving Options -> Image Previews, I set it to "Never Save" previews
    Now when I repeated the tests from aobve, I receved the error "Could not save <filename> because write access was not granted".
    Next I controlled for .DS_store files:
    Disabled .DS_Store file creation on remotely mounted points.
    Deleted the .DS_Store file for the source folder
    Verified that .ds_store files were not being created on remotely mounted points
    Ran the tests above, and the issue persisted: "Could not save <filename> because write access was not granted"
    Now I decided to test sub-folders:
    Created a target sub-folder.
    Repeated the test above, and its variations, but saving the problem_file.psd to the target sub-folder.
    Still received one of the two errors, depending on the variation, but the source file is no longer deleted. This make sense because saving in another directory is really a "save as", and one would not expect safe saving (talked about more later) to affect source files in this scenario.
    Sort of a Solution:
    Open the file from Finder
    Depending on the Finder view, Finder shows a thumnail of the image
    Go back to Finder and select a different file
    Make changes to the file
    Save the file
    No error is received
    This is when I discovered that the error only occurs when Finder is in a view that shows a thumbnail/preview of the image. Further testing of Finder show that in Cover Flow the error only occurs for the selected image. For example:
    Cover flow shows thumbnails/previews of files: A, B, C, D, E
    Open A
    In Cover Flow select file B
    The thumnails of of files A, B, C, D, E are still visible
    Make a change to the open file
    Save the change
    No error is received
    This shows that Finder is treating the thumbnails/previews of unselected files different than selected files.
    An Interesting Twist:
    If from the last scenario with Cover Flow...
    Open file A
    Go back to Finder and select a different file
    Then make a change and attempt to save to the target sub-folder
    Receive the error "Could not save <filename>" because of a program error.
    Discussion:
    Photoshop does something called safe saving.
    Photoshop saves the current document to a temporary file with a unique name
    Photoshop deletes the original file << this is incorrect >>
    Photoshop moves the temporary file to a file with the name of the original file that was deleted in step 2  << incorrect: the temp file replaces the original with an OS call to a function that is supposed to be an atomic operation >>
    However, you can see that "safe saving" is misnamed, because while the original is deleted, Photoshop does not appear to be correctly ensuring that permissions exist to allow the temporary file to be ranemd or that the temporary file was renamed without error. Photoshop is either:
    Not checking for the error  << yes, it is >>
    Checking for the permissions and not catching the error  << incorrect >>
    Checking for the permissions and giving an error to generic to discern the exact problem from. << also incorrect >>
    Somewhere there is a conflict (perhaps a race condition) between:
    Photoshop creating the temporary file
    The server applying permission to the newly created temporary file
    OS-X reporting the file has been created
    Photoshop deleting the original file
    Photoshop saving the new file
    Finder updating the thumbnail of the file
    As I've shown here, the problem doesn't seem to reside fully with Apple or fully with Adobe. Hopefully this post provides enough information for some clever engineer to create a fix.
    My information about safe saving is from an Adobe mod on a previous thread regarding this issue << and copied incorrectly, plus added bad assumptions>>. He detailed the process and also explained that Photoshop uses OS APIs to create and delete the files during safe saving. If his details are accurate, it seems that a temporary fix would at least change the safe saving process to the following:
    Photoshop saves the current document to a temporary file with a unique name
    Photoshop moves the original file to a temporary backup file (original-file-name.original-extension.bak)
    Photoshop moves the temporary file to a file with the name of the original file moved in step 3
    Photoshop checks to make sure that the temporary file has been succesfully renamed
    If the temporary file has successfully been renamed, it deletes the backup file from step 2 OR if the temporary file has failed to be renamed, the backup is returned to its original file name
    The appropriate error message, if any, is displayed
    A Few Sources:

    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/732422
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3380971?start=0&tstart=0

    You got several details wrong.
    And it sounds like you are describing 2 known MacOS bugs:
    1) The OS fails when creating or swapping files on SMB servers, and this happens more often on files that have a resource fork.
    2) The Finder/QuickLook/Thumbnailing holds a file busy when it should not, causing program errors or file is busy errors.
    We did as much as we could to work around these issues in Photoshop CS6 - after spending a lot of time debugging the OS issues and working with Apple.
    Apple is still working on proper fixes within the OS.

  • Remote installation of Adobe AIR on Apple OS X 10.6.8

    Hello all,
    I'm attempting to remotely install Adobe AIR via SSH on an Apple OS X machine running 10.6.8 (64-bit) when no users are logged in locally. Let's say I remotely mount the latest dmg released for Adobe AIR using the hdiutil command on the desired host.
    hostname:~ ladmin$ hdiutil attach -quiet "AdobeAIR.dmg"
    hostname:~ ladmin$ ls -l /Volumes
    total 8
    drwxr-xr-x@ 3 ladmin  staff  102 Aug  5 13:11 Adobe AIR
    lrwxr-xr-x  1 root    admin    1 Aug 18 12:09 Macintosh HD -> /
    (Excellent.)
    Using this post (http://forums.adobe.com/message/3795207#3795207), I attempted to install Adobe AIR on the OS X system, but I get the following response back. I am not able to Cntrl+C out of the command once the error message appears. I need to Cntrl+Z and kill (-9) the process.
    hostname:~ ladmin$ sudo /Volumes/Adobe\ AIR/Adobe\ AIR\ Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ AIR\ Installer -silent -eulaAccepted
    password:
    Mon Aug 22 10:26:25 facula Adobe AIR Installer[34743] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.
    _RegisterApplication(), FAILED TO establish the default connection to the WindowServer, _CGSDefaultConnection() is NULL.
    The above command works via SSH when a user is logged in locally (admin or standard user), and it does not interrupt their processes with any prompts. It only seems to fail for machines without users logged in locally at the console.
    Is there a work-around for this?
    Thanks!
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,
    You've run into a known bug in AIR (internal bug #2827334) however there is a workaround for 10.6.  It's broken again with 10.7 and we've filed an issue with Apple against it.  This command should work for you:
    sudo launchctl bsexec `ps auwwx |grep [l]oginwindow | awk '{ print $2 }'` Adobe\ AIR\ Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ AIR\ Installer -silent
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • How can I set ACLs on MAC remote volumes.

    Hi,
    I am having Mac OS X 10.5 leopard as server and 10.4 as client. I have mounted 10.5 server from 10.4 remotely through Apple Filing Protocol(Basically an AFP mount). On the remote mounted volumes I am unable to enable/set the ACLs right now. But I have already enabled the ACLs on 10.5 local volumes before I mount them from different clients.
    "sudo fsaclctl -p </Volumes/MACVOL1> -e" is the command used to enable ACLs on the remote MAC Volumes. This one throwed ENOT SUPPORT error. It should not be due to any file system differences, as both are having same file system.
    *Basically I want to see an ACL(AFP's FPGetACL/FPSetACL) request going on wire from a MAC client to contact the MAC server.*
    I have tried the option of workgroup manager. There the sharing option was dimmed out after the authentication part. And I was unable to add the remote server in the server admin part. I have tried all the options that were suggested in various threads. But nothing worked out.
    I am looking out for some simpler solution to see the ACL request coming from a Mac client directing to a MAC server.
    Thanks,
    Yogesh.

    Any suggestions please...

  • Ocfs2 problem with heartbeating

    I'm trying to setup 2 SUSE10 boxes with iscsi and ocfs2. I installed and configured ocfs2-1.1.1 and the tools for that version. I am able to start ocfs2 and mount the fs. But on 1 of the nodes, the /var/log/messages is showing this:
    Mar 21 19:46:28 test-san2 kernel: (15083,0):o2hb_do_disk_heartbeat:819 ERROR: Device "sda1": another node is heartbeating in our slot!
    Mar 21 19:46:30 test-san2 kernel: (15083,0):o2hb_do_disk_heartbeat:819 ERROR: Device "sda1": another node is heartbeating in our slot!
    and it keeps going, every 2 seconds. My cluster.conf has different IP addresses and node numbers. Not sure how its conflicting. And when I startup the cluster and ocfs2 I get this in my /var/log/messages, so they don't look like they are conflict too.
    Mar 21 19:52:35 test-san1 kernel: ocfs2: Mounting device (8,17) on (node 2, slot 1)
    Mar 21 19:24:31 test-san2 kernel: ocfs2: Mounting device (8,1) on (node 1, slot 0)
    If anyone has an idea where to start with dealing with this issue, please tell me. Thanks

    Hi,
    actually i have the same problem.
    I`m running OCFS2 on 2 debian GNU/Linux Boxes with iSCSI.
    The Cluster-Config is the same on all nodes:
    node:
    ip_port = 7777
    ip_address = 10.0.0.1
    number = 1
    name = xenserv-lin-01
    cluster = xen
    node:
    ip_port = 7777
    ip_address = 10.0.0.2
    number = 2
    name = xenserv-lin-02
    cluster = xen
    cluster:
    node_count = 2
    name = xen
    After starting the cluster and mounting the Block-Device the following Erros occours:
    (4072,0):o2hb_do_disk_heartbeat:822 ERROR: Device "md0": another node is heartbeating in our slot!
    (3943,0):o2net_connect_expired:1432 ERROR: no connection established with node 2 after 10 seconds, giving up and returning errors.
    Do you have any ideas?
    Kind regards,
    Sebastian
