ODBC connect from Oracle to MySQL!

Dear All,
I know its not very much related to the subject of this forum but DBA's often have to perform such tasks.
I am in process of developing replication between Oracle and MySQL. For this I have planned to create materialized views in oracle that query MySQL database.
I am using Oracle 11gR1 on Linux for Oracle Server and MySQL is on windows based server version is 5.1.
I am stuck at the very first step that is to create a database link between Oracle and MySQL.
On Oracle's server, I did the following:
Installed unixODBC rpm (Installed successfully)
Installed mysql-connector-odbc (Installed successfully)
when i write this command odbcinst -j it gives the following information
unixODBC 2.2.11
D|RIVER........... : /etc/odbcinst.ini ; (my comments : Files exists)
SYSTEM DATA SOURCE : /etc/odbc.ini (my comments : File exists )
USER DATA SOURCE : /root/.odbc.ini (my comments : File DO NOT exists)
Now i tried to add the following entry in the file /etc/odbc.ini
[bssdata]
Driver = MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver
DATABASE = bssdata
DESCRIPTION = views_on_bssdata
PWD =
PORT = 3306
SERVER = 192.168.0.68
UID = root
Now when i try to check the connectivity with the command:
isql -v bssdata root
Error: data source name not found, and no default driver specified.
ERROR: Could not SQLConnect
Anyone have tried this before, please help me out of it.

  • ODBC connection from Oracle to PostgreSQL

    Hello All,
    I need to connect from Oracle 10g to PostgreSQL.
    Oracle 10.2.0.1 Standard Edition on Windows NT and PostgreSQL on another server.
    I have some docs that say what to do (configuring the hsodbc etc), but 'am not sure on what all things to be installed(and where)
    Where do i get the ODBC DRIVER for postgreSQL?
    Is plsqlODBC(http://www.postgresql.org/ftp/odbc/versions/) the driver ?
    Does oracle provide any driver (Generic ODBC driver ?, if so where do i get it from ? i have searched oracle dowload)
    Do i need to install these ODBC drivers on both Oracle as well as PostgreSQL servers ?
    TIA,
    JJ

    Oraqcle does NOT probvide any "generic" odbc driver nor an ODBC driver that can connect to any other foreign database. Oracle only provides an ODBC driver for Oracle.
    Have a look at: http://www.postgresql.org/download/products/2
    it contains all necesary info.

  • ODBC: connect from oracle to filmaker pro 7 to extract data

    sorry for the cross post, i posted this in th ODBC forum, but that's in the windows.net subhead, so idunno.
    here is is again:
    we have a filemaker pro server and some of the data needs to be imported weekly into an oracle database.
    my understanding is this can be done and it is roughed out in the "FileMaker 7 ODBC and JDBC Developer's Guide"...available here if anyone is interested:http://filemaker.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/filemaker.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5337
    however, i know nothing about oracle, but i don't need to since there are people on staff to deal with that. i am presenting this connection option as the best way for the oracle guys here to get the data they need. the other option is for them (non-filemaker savvy people) doing exports and importing them into oracle. they don't want to do this because they don't like filemaker. i believe this whole process would be easier if i keep the oracle guys in what they know and love, oracle. once the extract was properly set up it could be done as cron job. all done.
    so my question is, how would one accomplish this?
    broad strokes that i could give to the oracle people to direct them.
    i figure they could build a small custom app to do this, but i have no idea what is involved with that. or, perhaps the oracle application has the ability to run scripts?
    any pointers would be helpful.
    thanks!

    You can use Filemaker's built-in ODBC capability to push data from the FMP database into Oracle. Then you as a FMP developer can take responsibility for getting the data into Oracle and the Oracle guys don't have to deal with FMP at all.
    You will need an ODBC driver for Oracle, and an ODBC DSN configured for connecting to the Oracle database. Then you will need to write a simple FMP script that traverses the FMP records you want to push and generate a SQL string that you pass to the Execute SQL script step. Here is an example:
    Go to Record/Request/Page [First]
    Loop
    Execute SQL [No dialog; DSN: myDSN;
    Calculated SQL Text: "UPDATE products_description
    SET products_viewed=" & myFMPDatabase::Products_Viewed
    & " WHERE products_id=" & myFMPDatabase::Products_ID]
    Go to Record/Request/Page [Next; Exit after last]
    End Loop
    This assumes that you have an account with write access to the Oracle database, you understands its schema, and have enough knowledge of SQL to write simple INSERT / UPDATE statements.

  • Tnsping timed out using dg4odbc from Oracle to MYSQL through ODBC

    Hi,
    I encountered problem when trying to connect from Oracle to MYSQL using dg4odbc, hope you can shed some light
    Oracle database is 11.1.0.7 on SUSE Linux 64-bit.
    Since the application which runs on MYSQL DB only offers ODBC driver on Windows platform, so I installed the 32-bit ODBC driver (from ServiceNow) on a 32-bit windows server (driver download from http://wiki.service-now.com/index.php?title=ODBC_Driver) .
    created system DSN: MYSQLDEV, The DSN connection works fine. I then installed Oracle 11.2.0.1 gateway for ODBC 32-bit on the same windows server, the following configurations were done:
    On 32-bit Windows server:
    in gatewayHome\hs\admin
    initMYSQLDEV.ora:

    if listener is not listening to the service, then the tnsping on the windows server should fail as well.
    I don't know why only the tnsping from Linux failed, is it due to the 32-bit ODBC uncompatibility with 64-bit oracle server? or my configuration problem?
    Of course, when I created the DB link from oracle, the connection failed with
    create database link mysqldev connect to xxxx identified by "xxxxx" using 'jelly';
    Database link created.

    So it can find and load the necessary libraries (afaik)..
    So any ideas left??

    Let us rewrite your ODBC DSN a little bit... Your current odbc.ini looks like:
    [ACME_POS]
    Driver     = FreeTDS
    Description = ODBC Connection via FreeTDS
    Trace       = 1
    Servername  = 192.168.1.80
    Database    = dbo
    Let us change it a little bit so that we only need one config file - no odbcinst.ini nor freetds.conf file anymore:
    [ACME_POS]
    Driver =/usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
    Server = 192.168.1.80
    Database
    = dbo     ####  I have some doubts that you have a SQL Server database called dbo - one database that always exists is master - so as a test use master here or get the real database name of the SQL Server database you want to connect
    Port = 60801 ## make sure it really is the correct port - best would be to check on the SQL server and then try telnet <ip> <port> if you can connect to the SQL server
    TDS_Version = 8.0
    QuotedId=YES
    Especially the last 2 parameters are mandatory. TDS_Version specifies the TDS Version you have to use to connect to the SQL Server and QuotedID is required for DG4ODBC as it surrounds objevt names by double quotes.
    What happens now when you try to connect with for example isql - the ODBC test utility shipped with the ODBC Driver manager?
    In addition, could you please do me another favour and check the word size of DG4ODBC and the ODBC Driver Manager as well as the ODBC Driver - just execute:
    file /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/dg4odbc
    file /usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
    file < the patch to your libodbc.so library>/libodbc.so
    and post the output.

    There is a typo in the name of you gateway init file. You posted the content of inithMYSQL.ora but the naming is init<SID>.ora which is in your case initMYSQL.ora.
    In addition please keep in mind HSODBC has been desupported since 2008 and when starting a new configuration you should use the follow up product dg4odbc (Database Gateway for ODBC) V11.

  • DB Link Error from Oracle to Mysql

    Please help me to  slove the error
    Thanks in Advance
    Sudheer

    Sudheer,
    the error message is self explaining - your user 'user' connecting from the host @'xxxx.xxxx.xxxx' is not allowed to log into the MySQL database. To solve this issue you need to grant permissions to the user so that he can connect from any host (%) or just from that particular host where you installed the gateway.
    The command to allow access from everywhere would be:
    grant all on *.* TO '<user>'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY '<password>';
    or just specify the IP address instead of '%' if you want to restrict it.
    More details can be found in the MySQL manual:
    MySQL :: MySQL 5.1 Reference Manual :: 6.2.7 Causes of Access-Denied Errors

  • Update/Insert records from Oracle to MySQL

    Hi team,
    My application will insert/update records into Oracle database, I need to sync all of records into MySQL database.  I designed a package to load data from Oracle to MySQL, the Oracle database use OLE DB component and MySQL database use ADO.NET.
    How to insert new records into MySQL? If the old record exists, we also need to replace with new record. I did some research, someone suggest to create a stage table to handle this scenario, but I have 14 tables in this case. How to handle this scenario
    with high performance?
    If there is anything unclear, please let me know.
    Thank you in advance.

    Finally, I created 14 tables as same as in our MySQL database system with prefix "updated" , they are use to store the updated records from Oracle system. All of new records we add a flag, the "1" means insert a new record into the system,
    and the "0" means we should updated. So, I can use the conditional split component to split all of new records. The new records insert into the target table and the updated records insert into the "updated_table". Finally, we can add a
    SQL Script task to run a update script to sync all of records.
    I don't use Lookup Transformation because we must use Cache
    Transform transformation in this case, the Cache connection manager to save the data to a cache file (.caw), it will hard to
    trace the history data in the future.
    In addition, I recommend to use ODBC connection if somebody face the similar scenario with me, there is a bug  if we use ADO.NET to
    load data from Oracle to MySQL by using SSIS. For more information, please refer the MSDN document: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mattm/archive/2009/01/07/writing-to-a-mysql-database-from-ssis.aspx
    @Arthur, thanks again for your input.  Have a nice day! :)

  • Error with DG4ODBC while setting up connectivity from oracle to IBM iSeries AS400 version V7R1

    Hi,
    I have Enterprise linux 64-bit hosting Oracle 11gR2 64-bit (11.2.0.1) database.  I have access to IBM iSeries AS400 version V7R1.  I am trying to connect to IBM iSeries from Oracle Database through ODBC connectivity using Database Link.  The following is what I have done.
    On the Database (Linux) host Installed iSeriesAccess-7.1.0-1.0.x86_64.rpm provided by IBM.
    my odbcinst.ini has the following entries:

    I have looked up the errors on Oracle forums and could not get any valuable help anywhere.
    Can someone kindly help out where I am going wrong?
    Thanks,
    Ram.

    Hello kgronau,
    Thank You very much for your recommendations.  I removed the parameter HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 255.
    I added HS_FDS_FETCH_ROWS=1 and also HS_NLS_NCHAR = UCS2
    Tested my sql statement, which yielded the result as follows:
    SQL> select * from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink;
    select * from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
    ㈵″㠵6
    SO I thought I would give a try of removing the line HS_NLS_NCHAR = UCS2
    and again tested my sql statement and it worked like a charm!!!!
    I tested a count(*) and got the results back.
    SQL> select count(*) from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink;
      COUNT(*)
           600
    I really appreciate your valuable pointers and help.
    Thanks once again!!!
    Ram.

  • ODBC connectivity between Oracle 11G and MSSQL Server on Solaris 10

    When we were running in 10G, I was able to successfully configure hsodbc using unixODBC and freeTDS to allow for an ODBC connection between Oracle and MSSQL Server.
    A few weeks ago we upgraded to 11G and I've been struggling to get the connectivity (dg4odbc) working.
    In our 10g environment unixODBC and freeTDS were compiled as 32-bit. I have recompiled them as 64-bit and switched over to an 11G listener and I am getting the following error:

    Can anyone help me see what I'm missing?

    Thank you for your response.
    I modified the envs LD_LIBRARY_PATH parameter in my SID_LIST_LISTENERODBC to be:
    (ENV="LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/freetds/lib:/usr/local/unixODBC/lib:/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/lib:/
    u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/hs/lib")
    and bounced the listener, but I'm still getting the same error.
    I do not have a lib64 directory in my Freetds installation, but all the files in the lib directory are 64-bit.
    Here is a listing of my DG4ODBC init file:
    /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/hs/admin[PPRD]> more initidentipass.ora
    # This is a sample agent init file that contains the HS parameters that are
    # needed for an ODBC Agent.
    # HS init parameters
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = identipass
    #HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 0
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = Debug
    HS_FDS_SHAREABLE_NAME = /usr/local/unixODBC/lib/libodbc.so
    HS_FDS_SUPPORT_STATISTICS=FALSE
    HS_LANGUAGE=AMERICAN.AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P15
    # ODBC specific environment variables
    set ODBCINI=/usr/local/unixODBC/etc/odbc.ini
    # Environment variables required for the non-Oracle system
    #set <envvar>=<value>
    Thanks for your help with this!

  • ODBC connection to Oracle 7 will not reset

    We are using Oracle JDBC drivers for all but one of our
    datasources which is an old Oracle 7 database. The ODBC connection
    to this database will not reset when the database is bounced or the
    database server is rebooted. We have to restart the ODBC service to
    reset the connection. Is there another way to do this automatically
    or perhaps another driver out there we can use? We are running
    ColdFusion MX 6.1 Enterprise.

    Wow, I can't believe that you are still using Oracle 7. In
    fact, unless you are on 7.3.4 you aren’t even Y2K compliant.
    Of course, I'm not even sure if there is an upgrade path from 7.x
    to 10g, but I would consider migrating off of 7 to anything else.
    Otherwise, you are going to have more and more compatibility
    problems. In fact, you can no longer even get ODBC drivers from
    Oracle for versions older than 9i.
    Good luck.
