Odd FTP Adapter Behavior?
All - I'm seeing some behavior I don't understand on the BPEL Server.
There is a BPEL process that is supposed to pickup files from an FTP server every minute that match the filename pattern *.* except for *.tmp. It will also only pickup files that are at least 5 minutes old. It is working and moving files, but it is not processing all of the files when it runs. There are files on the FTP server that are several hours old. Do you have any idea why it would be leaving these files behind?
In addition, I see the following:
314922 : Instance #314922 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:30 AM
314921 : Instance #314921 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:30 AM
314920 : Instance #314920 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:28 AM
314919 : Instance #314919 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:28 AM
314918 : Instance #314918 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:26 AM
314917 : Instance #314917 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:26 AM
314916 : Instance #314916 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:19 AM
314915 : Instance #314915 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:13 AM
314914 : Instance #314914 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:13 AM
314913 : Instance #314913 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:10 AM
314912 : Instance #314912 of ftp_pickup_from_uid ftp_pickup_from_uid (v. 1.25) 04/29/09 06:10 AM
Note the two instances 314917 and 314918. These instances appear to be running at the same time. Is this normal? Is BPEL multi-threading processes that target individual files? I've looked at the flow and audit information and no errors appear to be getting generated.
What do you think is going on here?
Yes it is multi thread but it can be throttled.
Have a look at the best practice guide

there is a section under file adapters that may help

Duplicate File issue using FTP adapter - BizTalk 2010
Hi We encountered an Issue of picking Duplicate files in BizTalk 2010 from the FTP Location. Need your assistance on this.
Mainframe sends multiple files a 0 KB file to FTP and BizTalk picks during a particular service window using FTP Adapter.
Receive Location has a pipeline component which decodes the MF file(EBCDICRow format).
Send Port transmits the file which is decoded in the Receive location. There is no mapping or orchestration involved.
When 2 files are placed in FTP Location. BizTalk Transmits the files successfully
No suspended messages in BizTalk but we see below error in event log. we tried reproduce the issue but no luck.
Host Instance running FTP Location is Clustered
There was a failure executing the receive pipeline: "XXXX.XX.Pipelines.Receive_XXX_TransactionsMC_passthru, XXX.XX.Pipelines, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c2d1f476d5c2f97d"

-SriHi Sri,
There could be two reason for such a behavior:
1) Using Non-Clustered Hosts: It is always recommended to use the clustered host for FTP adapter. Because FTP don't allow
any locking mechanism on the files so in case of non-clustered with multiple host instances you might receive same file multiple times through different host instances.
2) If the original document is still being written to the FTP server by the host application, the FTP adapter cannot
delete the document and will retrieve another copy of the document at the next polling interval that is configured for the receive location. This behavior causes document duplication to occur.
Workaround could be:
Configure the host application to write to a temporary folder on the same hard disk as the public FTP folder and to periodically move the contents of the temporary folder
to the FTP folder. The temporary folder should be on the same hard disk as the public FTP folder to make sure that the move operation is atomic. An atomic operation is an operation that is functionally indivisible. If you write data to the public FTP folder
by using the BizTalk Server FTP adapter, you can do this by specifying a Temporary Folder property in the FTP Transport Properties dialog box when you configure a send port. If you specify a Temporary Folder property, make sure that this folder is on the same
physical disk as the public FTP folder.
Configure the FTP receive location to operate within a service window when the host application is not writing data to the FTP server. You can specify the service window
when you configure the receive location properties.

How to stop the last rnto to be issue by the ftp adapter when downloading a file.
The company that processes the ftp documents for a partner is a VAN and has a process where the ftp file sent is immediately moved to an archive upon download. The ftp adapter wants to rename the file after the download completes but the originally
downloaded file is already gone and an error is returned.
Is there a way to not issue the rnto or have the server process wait until the script is complete before moving the file.
I don't have the time to write a custom ftp adapter, maybe a dotnet helper ftp process.
Is there something simple that can be done.
Thanks
Bico BielichMaybe you can't if changing the Spool Folder doesn't change the behavior.
Does the trading partner have or can they create a temp folder you can use? You might even be able to create your own with a pre-command script. -
Zero byte files not transferred with FTP Adapter
All,
I am seeing that zero byte files are not being transferred using FTP Adapter (SFTP type). Is there a known bug around this? Please respond if anybody have seen this behavior and resolved this issue. I am using 10.1.3.3.0
Thanks,
DipalThanks Marc,
I still have doubt if that is the case. When I tested the same from 10.1.3.3.1 windows platform and FTP being windows OS zero bytes files transferred OK. Do you think this is to do with OS or SOA version?
Thanks,

FTP Adapter config problem (again :/ )
Hello all.
I know that this topic was discussed few times before but i still cant setup my FTP adapter.
My OS is Win XP. I downloaded free ftp server (XLight FTP Server) and setup my oc4j-ra.xml in following way:
<connector-factory location="eis/Ftp/FtpAdapter" connector-name="Ftp Adapter">
<config-property name="host" value="10.172.201.57"/>
<config-property name="port" value="210"/>
<config-property name="username" value="szeryf"/>
<config-property name="password" value="szeryf"/>
</connector-factory>
where shown ip address is my computer address. I also created user szeryf/szeryf at my local FTP server and tried to connect to that server using some ftp client - with success. Then i created some simple BPEL process to upload file to FTP server. Each time i try i get fault that connection to server failed.
Maybe someone experienced such a thing and could help me with that problem?
Regards,
ChrisAre you sure your ftp server is on port 210? It seems odd.
And is there a reason you are editing oc4j-ra.xml directly? Why not make a partner link and get that working first? -

Getting filename in FTP Adapter in BPEL
How to retrieve the filename read by the FTP adapter in ora-bpel?
Just figured out how to do this.
1. Create a variable of type 'InboundHeader_msg' defined in 'ftpAdapterInboundHeader.wsdl'.
2. Reference this in the 'Adapters' tab of the FTP adapter receive activity. -
Getting filename in FTP Adapter in ESB
I am trying to get the filename on an inbound FTP adapter in an ESB. I've followed the directions I have found, by following these steps:
1. The namespace xmlns:ehdr="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/oracle.tip.esb.server.headers.ESBHeaderFunctions" is automatically generated in the xsl file.
2. Create a variable in the xsl file, with value ehdr:getRequestHeader('/fhdr:InboundFileHeaderType/fhdr:fileName','fhdr=http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/file/;'). Let's give it the name INFILENAME.
3. Reference the variable in some expression in the xsl file: $INFILENAME
4.Set UseHeaders="true" in the FTP inbound wsdl file
When I do this in a file adapter, I can use the value. When I do this in an ftp adapter, no value comes back.
Any ideas?Yes, that did it, thanks. I had a typo:
getRequestHeader('/fhdr:InboundFtpHeaderType/fhdr:fileName,'fhdr=http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/ftp/;')
which should have had "FTP" in upper case. The correct code is as you stated:
getRequestHeader('/fhdr:InboundFTPHeaderType/fhdr:fileName,'fhdr=http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/ftp/;') -
Retaining the FileName in the Receiver FTP adapter
Hi experts,
I have a situation here, were i need to retain the FileName in the message header in the receiver FTP adapter.
I have tried using variable subtitution but seems the FileName is not supported in variable substitution.
Please help
ThanksHello,
if you need file name to be retained in the receiver adapter from the sender side. then u can do that by dynamic configuration using adapter specific message attributes, check this blog for details-
/people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/11/10/xi-the-same-filename-from-a-sender-to-a-receiver-file-adapter--sp14
if you dont have a mapping in your interface to use dynamic configuration, then you can do it via adapter module also- have a look here, /people/sap.user72/blog/2005/07/15/copy-a-file-with-same-filename-using-xi

Using relative path for in file/ftp adapter
Hi All,
How to have a relative path for file/ ftp adapter's inbound/outbound operation?
Example: Consider $ORA_HOME = /home/oracle --> This environment variable can be different on different machines
i want to drop a file in to $ORA_HOME/folder1/folder2 (Or poll for a file).
<partnerLinkBinding name="FTP">
<property name="wsdlLocation">FTP.wsdl</property>
<property name="out_dir" type="LogicalDirectory">What do i write here???</property>
<property name="retryInterval">60</property>
</partnerLinkBinding>
if i cant configure this in partner link section or in activation agent sction, how else do i achieve this?
i am using 10.1.3.* version.
Thanks in advance.
Roshan.You can achive it using the deployment scripts if the directory is changing on the basis of the environment
If you want to change at run time than you can use the jca properties to set using the variables at runtime.

Need Help on FTP Adapter Archival Process
Hi Guru's,
I implemented FTP Adapter for Inbound Operation to read the file from inbound directory and after reading the file should be archived in Archival Directory and Delete the file from directory from inbound directory.
In my case file is successfully picked from inbound directory and records inserted in to database table. File is not Archiving in Archival Folder and File deleted from Inbound Directory. Here I need to Archive the files in Archival Folder.
Thanks in Advance
Could you please help me in this regard and Please provide pointers to me<property name="UseRemoteArchive" value="true"/>
Set this property to "true" to notify the Oracle FTP Adapter that the archival directory is on the same FTP server. If set to "false", the Oracle FTP Adapter uses a local file system folder for archival.

Process TIFF file from FTP server using File/FTP adapter
Hi,
I have a requirement to process a scanned document TIFF file from a directory on an FTP server using the File/FTP adapter and process through XI into a Web Service via a receiver SOAP adapter.
My question is can the file/FTP adapter be used to process the TIFF file into XI from an FTP server ? Also, what settings need to be made on the file adapter to allow this file to be processed into XI ?
Thanks in advance
Colinhi colin,
TIFF is type of image file, it can be converted to binary using java mapping

FTP Adapter - ModificationTimeFormat -issue
Hi,
We are using FTP adapter to poll a file from FTP server. We neither have an option to delete or archive files from that FTP remote server hence we are using "FileModificationTime" option. When we use this option, polling adapter errors out with ---

Hi All,
We are seeing an issue with the FTP Adapter Communication Channel in SAP PI 7.1. When the communication channel is connecting to a FTP Server and if the connection request timeout ( ex: SFTP Server down ) we see a connection error .
However the overall communciation channel status doesnot refelct it and it is still in GREEN status. The status being wrong doesnt raise an adapter CCMS alert. Also we are seeing that the communication channel stops all connection attempts after the failure for that communication channel.
Wanted to check if anyone has seen or encountered the issue and how did you get past the problem.
Thanks in advance..
ArunavaHi,
Could you please let me know whether it is sender communication channel or receiver ?
Also please check below.
1. Java messaging system queues are free or hanged ?
2. Please mention time out paramter in the channel.
3. Did you try Start/Stop the channel.
Please get back to me.

Sachin
