Oddly persisting password

I would like to know how to delete a password which is oddly persisting.
After I do a full Reset Safari, all password-access pages ask for password -- except for one. To make that site ask again for password, I also have to Quit.
If I don’t Quit, I can keep re-accessing that page even after doing a full Reset Safari (all items checked).
I’ve looked in Keychain and can’t see any trace of that password, though I may be missing something.
Can someone clear this up? I want to be sure I’m clearing all traces.
Thank you.

Did you mean control-click-then-delete-item on the password listed in the Keychain list?
Yes.
It may be a good idea to boot from your install disc, run Disk Utility in case there are errors on the star tup disk that need repairing.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space

  • Persistent password plea

I'm running Windows XP, using Linksys wireless router BEFW11S4, ver.2
I want to use the router's wireless capabilities, including use of a WEP.
I can access the Setup page, entering with a password, but when I try to Apply my settings, the program insists on asking for a user name and password.  But it will not accept my username and password.  It won't even accept the default username (leave blank) and password ("admin").  I just keep getting the message box, "The server 192.168.1.1 at Linksys BEFW11S4 V.2 requires a user name and password.  Warning:  This server is requesting that your user name and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection).
So how do I proceed past the persistent password plea?

You probably have to Uninstall Norton Internet Security (NIS) software.  Disabling NIS is sufficient for some, but I had to uninstall before I could reset my router.  Then reinstall NIS once I was complete with my router settings.

  • Getting an odd CalDAV password prompt?  Mine was linked to Yahoo password change

Today I couldn't send mail via the iPad.  Instead of alterting me that the password was wrong, it told me that my current outgoing server was wrong.  It identified the current server as something like
                        apple.yahoo.smtp.    yada yada
and said I should change it or set up a new one.  Why in the world Apple was getting involved in a Yahoo outgoing mail server was beyond me.
Still, I went into setting, mail to check on the server account settings and then got another bizarre, unexpected prompt requesting a password for CalDAV!!  Not knowing what that was, I cancelled, but it was a bit unsettling!
After rummaging here, I discovered that the CalDAV message is related to calendar synching-- something I don't do, which added to the mystery.  For some reason, that message can occur when a mail password is missing or has been changed.
It then dawned on me that, in light of all the news about Yahoo, AOL, and GMail password hacking, I had changed the Yahoo mail password yesterday via the Yahoo web site.  That must have blanked out the password on the iPad.
Two strikes on Apple on this!  Suggesting that the server name itself was wrong and then asking for CalDAV password is not user-friendly.  Poor programming design, especially as many of us do NO calendar synching.  It should simply tell the user that the password is wrong, needs changing, and then prompt for the missing password.  (Or, do the usual-- name or password is incorrect.)
So, as Drkreis pointed out in another thread, the easy solution is to go under settings, Mail, to the account in question.  It will show Password with the word "Required" in grey.  Simply type in the new password there and  you'll be all set!
Yes, before anyone dumps on me...   it is absolutely true this was all created by user-error!  When you change your password for an account, you need to remember to change it on every device that is accessing that account.  Still, given that we're all human, and such errors are made all the time, Apple really needs to do better in explaining what's gone wrong and providing a single, layman prompt for a fix!

Thank you for the suggestion. I did change the password; however, I generally will purchase gift cards to link to the account so that if something like this ever happened it would not be taken out of a credit card or bank account.

I do not get an email after password recovery

10/26/13 I have tried several times to no avail today. Oddly, the password was saved under my main email addree to get into the forum but I can not get downloads to download.
Is there an issue with Apple server responding to sending password recovery to my main email address today?

  • I am quite fed up with Apple and my iMac - multiple issues

I've been a Windows user for years. I've suffered through all of the ups and downs of Windows over the years, mostly the downs. I have three Windows 7 computers, and quite frankly, both have performed quite beautifully, albeit without the polish of the Mac.
Earlier this year, I decided to buy an iMac for a few reasons. First, they are just so beautiful, and even if you are going to run Windows they are probably the best Windows computers out there. Second, I wanted to do more video editing and found the Windows tools weren't very good. I also wanted to run some karaoke software (kJams) that at the time was not available for Windows.
I was basically pleased with the iMac for a few months. However, there was one problem I could never solve: the wifi connection got lost periodically, even though I had made all of the system updates. I know this is a problem with the iMac, because my numerous Windows PCs and my two iPod toouches had no problem with a wifi connection. It appears from various posts here that this is indeed a problem many others have experienced since Snow Leopard's release, and as far as I can tell, despite many updates to the Airport software it has never been fixed by Apple. Strike 1.
A couple of weeks ago, my iMac started running slow for no reason I could identify. I don't have a lot of software installed on it, I didn't download anything pirated or questionable. I did install bootcamp according to Apple's instructions, and it worked fine (I wanted to run some Windows games). I tried doing all of the things that folks suggest when your computer is running slow - repairing permissions, running Onyx, etc. None of them seemed to do anything. I tried creating a new user, it had the same problem. I also noticed various other problems with the computer: it was slow to recognize a USB hard drive (and sometimes didn't recognize it at all), external hard drives would not appear in the time machine set up, and various other problems I can't quite recall. Overall, while presumably nothing serious should have been wrong with my computer, I decided I probably should simply reinstall OS X. Strike 2.
Now, quite frankly I would have been happy to simply reset the computer to its factory state. I would point out that nearly all Windows PCs come with a separate repair partition where it is very easy to do that with one click. I guess Apple is so confident in the reliability of its computers it doesn't think this is a useful feature. So, I had to install OS X using the DVD that came with the computer. It took quite a while to do this, and actually it wasn't at all clear to me that my settings would be kept (one would think that this is something the install screen would point out - Windows makes a quite clear distinction between a "clean install" and a re-install).
I was somewhat pleased when all of my settings were there. After the long process of reinstalling, I click on the "Accounts" setting I get a message saying that the Preferences application has quit unexpectedly -- clearly there are still problems. Quite irritating given that I just spent an hour trying to re-install the OS. I google around and again find others have had this problem, but unfortunately none of the proposed fixes I try seem to work. And my computer still seems to have other problems - it still doesn't recognize external drives very well. I will say that it seemed to be running a little faster though. Strike 3.
Anyway, I decide I need to do a full clean install. When I do that, things seem to be working better, although the mouse pointer is quite jerky - I'm thinking that maybe I need to just run software update to fix that. I start the software update - a nice 1gb download is required. Now ,the problem is that I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH WIFI DISCONNECTIONS. So no matter how many times I start the download, I CAN"T FINISH IT. And Apple, in its infinite wisdom, HAS NOT WRITTEN A DOWNLOADER THAT IS SMART ENOUGH TO CONTINUE WHERE IT LEFT OFF. How hard is this to do, really? Do I now have to lug my iMac across the house to put it on a wired connection? I've already wasted hours trying to get this piece of junk working.
And the sad fact is, once I am done, I will have a very beautiful computer that can't hold an internet connection.
I have to give Apple kudos for the iMac hardware. It's great. But the software? It's fine as long as it works. But it doesn't always work - and when it doesn't, it actually at this point seems more buggy and difficult to repair than Windows. Is this the last Mac I'll ever buy? Probably. Quite frankly, it's hard to avoid the conclusion that Apple's best developers have moved on to more exciting pastures (iPhone for example). And given the number of unsolved issues posted on these forums (including the ones I mention here), it appears that Apple engineers are simply asleep at the switch.

Let me start by saying I don't use wireless so I haven't had to deal with it, and I assume you know your way around all the settings in your modem/switch and Windows 7.

    Changing from WEP to WPA
How do I change from WEP to WPA security, which I have been told is better. I'm sure it is simple but i cant find it.
These settings are in your wireless router, so you will have to consult the manual for how to access the administration page and change the wireless security settings. Once you have WPA or WPA2 enabled, you will need to reauthenticate your computer with the wireless network since you will have a new password. If you have problems with persistent password requests popping up, you will need to open the "Keychain Access" utility and remove all keychain entries associated with your wireless network and password.

Networking In networking utilities, the in-depth network troubleshooting and monitoring utility VisualRoute ($49.95) has been updated to fix a bug with the "whois" routine, and likewise the Wi-Fi hot spot finder AirRadar ($19.95) has also been updated with a small bug fix for the signal status not updating.
The network administration and security testing utility NetScan (free) has also been updated and now has a revamped interface and new features for port scanning as well as fixes for icon appearance and update-checking problems.

As for restore, it is different, won't be the same, but there are two ways to handle that on a Mac:
    Apple TimeMachine
Clone OS X: bootable (yes, you can boot from 2nd or 3rd hard drive) - SuperDuper ($29) is superb and I update the backup (15 minutes) before applying updates.
That way I have my previous system with all data, not just an image, all my data and going back in time.
    From another thread:
if you have issues when using an AirPort router, you've either got interference issues causing your problems or a system issue.
    whenever possible:
    1) Vist an Apple Store
    2) Try your machine on their network
    3) If the connection drops, make them fix it.
Reason being, I've tried and checked log after log and have never seen a connection drop inside an Apple Store.
My gut reaction would be interference but the easiest move may be to check it in an Apple Store if at all possible.

If you connect to the Internet or a network in several different ways (using AirPort or Ethernet, for example), you can change the order of the network port configurations your computer tries when connecting to the Internet or a network.
To change the priority of a network port configuration:
    1) Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
    2) Choose Set Service Order from the Actions pop-up menu.
    3) Drag a service, such as Ethernet, to the top of the list. When you try to connect, Mac OS X will try the port configuration at the top of the list.©
Tip: Any Network Device listed here that you'll never use for a Network Connection should be set to 'Inactive'.

  • Time Machine Backs Up Same Number Of Files Every Time It Runs

Thought I had TM sorted out on my new iMac (Snow Leopard), but it keeps exhibiting this behavior and I can't get it to stop. It backs up to an external HDD with plenty of space via FW800, connections are all good etc. I've run Disk Warrior on the boot disk, the TM disk and one other external drive that is included in the backup. TM HDD and the other one are both excluded from Spotlight & I've forced a re-index of the main HDD several times as well.
The odd/persistent behavior is that TM backs up pretty much the exact same number of files from the other external HDD every hour. It's always the same whether the machine is idle or in use. Hoping the Great Pondini might be able to tell me why this might be happening or what I can do about it...

  • Windows laptop won't connect to internet using airport express connection

Hi. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I set up airport express on my imac g5 so I could share the internet with my windows laptop. I have a wireless notecard plugged into my laptop (802.11gg)--the laptop recognizes a wireless network with my imac no problem. I'm able to access the internet with my imac, but my laptop can't. I have a cable modem with the ethernet cable attached to airport express. I set up the wireless network using wep. Am I missing something? Please help! Thanks!

I had a similar issue this morning. My problem was my password. Apple will allow short passwords with wep encryption. Other manufacturer's don't.
    "The multiplatform issue
Being an older protocol, WEP password treatment was not implemented uniformly by all wireless hardware and operating system manufacturers. Some products require users to enter relatively cryptic hexadecimal characters (four bits each), while others allow "plain language" password entry. A plain language password, like "apple", uses standard ASCII characters that are 8 bits each.
Products that allow plain language (ASCII) password entry may not force the network administrator to create 5- or 13-character passwords that would result in the required 40 (5*8) and 104 (13*8) bit-length passwords. Instead, they use a "hashing" routine to convert an odd-length password to the correct bit length. The multiplatform issue arises when the hashing results of products from two different manufacturers don't match each other. The resulting "network equivalent passwords," which are always given in hexadecimal format, are different."
In my case I made the password 13 characters long and everything works fine now.

  • DPF-0009 There were compilation errors

I am trying to use the Data Profiling tool incorporated in Warehouse Builder Rel 2 10.2.0.1
I am getting the above error "DPF-0009 There were compilation errors"
I traced back the problem to the fact that the user OWB_OWNER_PRF's password was changed. However, I did go into the Connection explorerer and update the pasword of the corresponding location. However, that has not helped.
When I run the profile it starts the validation process and the progress bar stops with the following message -
    "OWB_PRF_OWNER_LOCATION (Create) - 1"
At that point the progress bar stops and I get this error.
I would really appreciate it if some one can give me some points about how this can be fixed ?
    Thank you
    Manav

    Hi Manav
Are you profiling using a repository user (rather than owner)? If so, this may be bug 5338439.
If so there are a couple of workarounds:
    1) Go into the control center, register all locations and then go back and perform the data profile.
    or
    2) Log in as the repository owner, go into preferences and select both persist passwords and share location passwords.
    Cheers
    David

Here I am using Java Type IV for database
    connection.
So,there was no necessity of creating DNS.How your app communicates with db shouldn't matter for the end user. Still, you may want to use a functional network name also for the thin client driver connection string.
So,is there any other way to solve this problem. What is the problem really? Do you not use dns for network naming? Maybe you have to manage the hosts file on every client then.

  • Persistent Logon for Airport Attached External Drive with 'Disk Password'?

I am using an Airport Extreme with a USB attached external hard drive. The drive is setup to require a 'disk password'. On the XP and Vista machines I have on the network, once they are setup to add the network drive, they store the password and whenever you boot up the Airport attached external drive is available. However on my iMac and MacBook, you need to click on the Airport Extreme in the SHARED tab under FINDER and then 'CONNECT AS" and manually enter the password to access the drive. Is there anyway to get the drive to log on 'automatically' using the 'disk password' method from the iMac? It seems a bit strange that Windows offers this persistent log on option, but not the MacOS 10.6.2???
The reason I have a 'disk password' is that I don't want guests to my wireless network... friends and relatives who visit, to have access to the Airport attached shared drive.

you can't; try using accounts although I don't like the function of accounts.

  • Why does Adobe Download Assistant persistently reject my ID and password which have been in Adobe us

Why does Adobe Download Assistant persistently reject my ID and password which have been in Adobe use for years?

Yes, I'm able to login with my Adobe ID and password, and have done so for at least 15 years.  But the moment I use Adobe Download Assistant they're both rejected with "Error 100" without explanation.  I have tried to reset both on about 6 occasions over two days.  The rejection continues; no explanation.  In other words, I am refused a trial download of CS6 (pending later purchase).  I have had Photoshop since v3.0 and still have every version since then.  Frankly, Adobe has become a vast overfed amoebe with independently activated tentacles that are out of central control and disconnected from other parts of the empire.  This event has been happening to many other Photoshop loyalists, according to Google data, and it's becoming  more and more likely that I may abandon Photoshop altogether .  Meanwhile I'm continuing to use my CS5 and giving up any further attempts to acquire CS6.

  • Persist Location Password among different users

    Hi All,
I have defined owb_owner such as repository owner.
Then i have created, logged as owb_owner, one Oracle Database Location ( 'Location_ODS') which points to schema ODS. In that location i have deployed some mappings. This Location in registered by owb_owner.
I have selected under TOOLS - PROPERTIES - PREFERENCES the check box 'persist location password' and 'share location password'.
If i try to deply a mapping, previosly imported, with another user ('USER01')
I HAVE to insert password lcoation for 'Location_ODS'.....
Is it possible to deploy a mapping using a location created by another user without entering the password ?
I have this need becouse i want USER01 dosn't know the password of 'Location_ODS'.
    Thanks,
    Marco

    Hi Marco,
Checking those preferences should be sufficient... There are a few other things that I can think off:
    - You will need to supply the password once (e.g. the first time that you deploy after import since we did not take over the password). If you deploy again, it now should stick (I've added this just for completeness and to see if this is the case)
    - The location is on a different control center, and for a remote control center we require you to always log in (the DEFAULT CONTROL CENTER is local, and you are already logged in), so could that be the case?
    Hope this helps,
    JP
