ODI and Essbase problem

Dear All ,
I would like to use Oracle Data Integrator to load text files and excel files to essbase cubes.
How could I do that ?
I'm working on Hyperion 11.1.2.1 enviroment

The technology should already be there, if it is not then you will need to import it in.

ODI and Essbase in different server to read the file error

Hi,
I have ODI and Essbase installed in different server.
I have created an interface to execute a calc script on top of an essbase cube. I kept the Caclscript.csc file in one folder in ODI server and provide the path
EXTRACTION_QUERY_FILE parameter is the path of the .csc file i placed in ODI server. it executed successfully to generate the extract file using the calc script in the specified path on Essbase server.
Now i want to read that file and load it to a relational table so map the network drive from ODI server to Essbase server where the file has been generated and provided the EXTRACT_DATA_FILE_IN_CALC_SCRIPT parameter as the Network drive path but ODI is unable to read the file.
any other option to read the file reside in essbase server and load it to relational table.

I have ODI 10.1.3.4.0
I have Hyperion and Essbase
ODI server, my ODI client and Essbase are located in different servers.
I have a work repository.
In the "Topology manager" in "Physical Architecture" under the "Essbase Hyperion" I created "Data Server" and in the definition tab I filled "Name", "Server" (with port), "User", "Password".
In the JDBC tab I did nothing.
In the physical schema in the definition tab I filled: "Application (Catalog)", "Database (Schema)", "Application (Work catalog)" (the same as first), "Database (Work schema)" (the same as second).
In the "Context" tab I insert a new line and chose the "Context" tha I had created before and type a new logical schema("").
(When I was creating the context I just filled Context "Name" and "Code" (automatically))
Then I want to reverse engineer data.
I opened ODI designer, created a new model: Definition tab: "Technology" = Hyperion Essbase, "Logical schema" = My_Hyperion_logic_schema
Reverse tab: "Context" = My_Hyperion_context
When I try to reverse engineer data in the Selective Reverse tab I get following error:

ODI and Essbase - question about updating structure (temp otls)

I'm running an interface that intends to update a dimension structure with the data from my respective dimension in Oracle relational. Actually a pretty simple interface using the KM "IKM SQL to
Hyperion Essbase (METADATA)". The execution is running fine with no errors and the structure is updated as expected, however we noticed that there are otl files being created in a tmp folder and they're never deleted. This folder is in the essbase server (/tmp). If I run this interface many times in a day, I'll have as many files in this folder as executions I did. So my question is if anybody knows why those files are being created and why they are not removed from there when the interface execution ends.
Thinking ahead, I'll have to create a shell script to clean up this folder in order to never have storage issues with those temporary otl files.

     Agreed.
     I also think those files were created by the java APIs. Just for testing purposes, I ran the rule manually and those otls were not created. This is one more reason for me to believe on this theory.
     However, what makes me think is: no one else got this issue? What are you guys doing with those files?
     Maybe there is some setup I have to do and those files will not be created anymore.

Problems with Excel 2007 and Essbase 6.5

Hi,
Two quick questions:
1. We are planning to upgrade our office to 2007, XP professional SP2 but still going to use Essbase excel add-in 6.5 for some users and Essbase 7.3 add-in for others. Has anyone faced any problems with this combination?
2. The only problem I encountered so far was when I double click a member name for retrieval, the pointer (cursor/icon) flickers / flashes continuously. But when I take the pointer out of the excel spreadsheet, the flicker goes away. Does anyone know a fix to this. Thanks.

I'm admin of an hyperion essbase database.
I'm testing our addin 6.5.1 with excel 2007.
First problem evocated on retrieve is confirmed.
I continue my test and tell you if i find another problem.
What i would say is that old version can be unsupported but i'm sure we can use this addin on excel 2007, i hope.

Can we use ODI with Informatica for Planning and Essbase

If we have Informatica datawarehouse, can I use ODI to integrate with Essbase and Planning ? Or do we need to buy informatica adapters for essbase/planning ?

Thank you John, for your response. We are accessing our options as to which way to go. We dont have licenses for ODI for Essbase or Planning. We have informatica expertise we would like to use them. The confusion is should we buy the adapters for informatica or licenses for ODI. I understand having ODI with Informatica would add an additional integration layer.

Hi, I would like to know if there's any problems in terms ofperformance when running SQL Server 2005 and Essbase Server on 1machine? Currently, my users are using Excel File (Lock & Send) toupload data to the Essbase Server and it took about 30 mins perexcel file upload. Application Manager is installed on client's andserver PC for adminstration. Now, I need to implement Datawarehouse and wish to installSQL Server 2005 on the current machine my Essbase Server isrunning. I will need to do simple SQL statements on the SQL Server2005 such as Update, Select, Insert etc. When comes to performance issues, will my current Essbase Serverbe affected? What if 2 users are accessing the Essbase Server andSQL Server at the same time? Will any data be lost in the midst ofextracting data? I hope someone can advise. Appreciate that. Thank you.

If a lock and send is taking 30 minutes, you are using the wrong technology to load Essbase. You should really consider doing the load using a data load rule. If that isn't the problem, it may be that you are having a real performance problem. If you are moving enough data to require a half hour load, it should be probably be loaded from a text file, or even a spreadsheet, using a data load rule. Text file loads are a bit better than excel, especially when there are formatting issues. Lock and sends are fine for changing parameters and doing adjustments, but heavy duty data loads really work a lot better with load rules.

Using relational data from SQL data source in Planning and Essbase

Hi,
How do I take sample data from a SQL data source and bring it into a Hyperion Planning application? I understand that when creating Planning applications, a link between a relational data source and Essbase must be established, because the relational database holds the metadata while the database outline is stored with Essbase. However, all I am currently able to do is load the data into Planning applicaitons via EAS, where I right-click on the Application database, hit load data, and select from either a .txt file or an excel file. Do I need Oracle Data Integrator? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, as well as corrections to any incorrect assumptions I may have made in this post. Thank you.

When you import your file (Excel or text), you're importing it using a Load Rule in EAS. To load from SQL, you simply create a SQL load rule. You'll load data the exact same way (via EAS), but with a different type of load rule. The load rule will contain the SQL that queries the database. You can preview your data in the load rule the same way you would with a file.
If your SQL is very complex, I'd recommend creating a view and loading from that view. But otherwise it's pretty straight-forward.
The only catch is that you need to configure a database connection (to your relational database) on the Essbase server. The Essbase DBA guide will show you how to do this.
You COULD use ODI, but I tend to only use it for loading metadata.

ODI and Hyperion Planning help

Hi,
I have 2 Hyperion Planning 9.3.1 servers setup for Finance and HR applications. I want to copy data from the HR application to the finance one.
I have ODI 10.3.5 setup on a separate machine with Hyperion Planning adapter installed. In the topology manager when I try to create a new data server under Hyperion Planning, I don't see the Application (catalog) and Application (work catalog) drop downs filled.
I have checked the RMI registry service running on the hyperion server and port 11333 is also free.
I am new to ODI and I'm trying to configure it using Oracle's guides.

FDM is purpose-built for--though not strictly limited to--loading financial data from external sources into Hyperion financial performance management applications, such as HFM, Planning, Essbase, etc. It it commonly used in financial consolidation/closing process, and it has many native features expected and required to support that type of activity. FDM is very well-suited to its intended purpose in serving the finance community of an enterprise. FDM is not so well-suited as a more generalized ETL tool, nor as a tool for maintaining application metadata.
ODI and DIM, on the other hand, are both general-purpose, enterprise-class ETL tools. Unlike FDM, they can be used to maintain application metadata, although they aren't necessarily the best tools to use for that purpose in every situation. Both tools are much more IT-centric than FDM.
DIM is actually Informatica PowerCenter bundled with some pre-build adapters for Hyperion products. In ODI vs. DIM, ODI is clearly Oracle's strategic product going forward.
A restricuted-use ODI license is now included with several Hyperion products (e.g., Planning), whereas FDM and DIM licenses are not. But if one of your main requirements is to transfer financial data in a consolidation process, FDM is hard to beat.

Setting up an Oracle ODBC Driver and Essbase

I am trying to retrieve data directly from Essbase into SAS (Statistical Analysis Software) by setting up an Oracle ODBC Driver and Essbase.
I read this document in the below link and I was convinced that I could use ODBC to connect to Essbase, but our data administrator says that Essbase is an OLAP database and can NOT use ODBC.

I am a SAS programmer, but I have no background in technical configuration, so I was wondering if someone can help me if it is really possible or not to connect to Essbase using ODBC.

I followed this link below to do a set up and did so successfully before the actual step to add a new data source to ODBC driver.
I should be able to select the TNS Service Name from the drop down list. This name will be that which I named in the TNSNAMES.ora file’s Alias = section, but I don’t see this option…
It would be great if someone knows why I do not see this option populated under drop-down in the screenshot.
Setting up an Oracle ODBC Driver and Data Source | Ten Six Consulting

1) As I recall, the problem of returning 0 is caused either by an outdated version of the ODBC driver or of the MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components). Updated versions of the ODBC driver are available here on OTN and updated versions of the MDAC are available at <http://www.microsoft.com/data>.
2) Versioning-
To determine the version of the Oracle8 ODBC driver you should be using, simply match up the first three digits of the ODBC driver version and the Oracle client version (see chart Mr. Oehl posted). The 8.1.5.6 ODBC driver should go on an 8.1.5.x.x system, the 8.1.6.1 ODBC driver should go on an 8.1.6.x.x system. If you have an Oracle7 client, you'll need one of the version 2.5x Oracle7 ODBC drivers.
Any ODBC driver should connect with any Oracle database. No need to match anything up there. You can determine the version of the database you're connected to by calling the ODBC function SQLGetInfo with the InfoType SQL_DBMS_VER.
A little elaboration on version numbers
- Oracle versions are generally 5 digits (i.e. 8.0.5.2.4, 8.1.5.1.1). The versions that you get on CD's are generally (always?) x.x.x.0.0 versions (i.e. 8.1.5.0.0, 8.1.6.0.0). The last two digits are incremented by periodic patchkit releases <ftp://oracle-ftp.oracle.com/server/patchsets/wgt_tech/server/windowsNT/>
- ODBC drivers must report versions in 4 parts, each part having 2 digits (i.e. 8.01.05.05). Since we're lazy about typing extra 0's, we simplify this and just refer to the 8.1.5.5 ODBC driver.
- The 8.1.5.x ODBC driver is built with the client libraries that ship with Oracle 8.1.5.x.x, the 8.1.6.x ODBC driver is built with the client libraries that ship with Oracle 8.1.6.x.x, etc. This is why I said above that you need to match the first 3 version numbers between Oracle client and ODBC driver to determine which to use.

Regd OS versions supporting Essbase API and Essbase product suite.

Hi All,
Can some one clarify me whether there will be any change of Versions in Operating Systems supporting the Essbase API and Essbase product suite ( i.e Essbase Server,Client,AAS,EIS,APS).
Is it possible like some of the Operating System versions supporting Essbase Server or AAS will not support the Essbase API of the same product version(9.3.1).
If both of them support different versions of operating systems, can some body provide me with the supporting OS version documents for Essbase API 9.3.1 and Essbase API 7.1.

I installed Photoshop CS4 after installing snow leopard. PS is crashing when saving JPG files. It is completely repeatable.
I deleted the preferences files and I got it to save the file once. The second time it started to crash again.
The file is a PSD file with several layers it is 4267x1200 pixels.
I then flatten the file and save as .... JPG
As soon as I click on the JPG quality or OK button photoshop freezes. THIS IS REPEATABLE EVERY SINGLE TIME.
The big lie from Adobe is that they said that CS4 was certified to work with Snow Leopard, it DOES NOT.
I went and spent the $350 for the upgrade to find out that CS4 is just as unstable as CS3 (which actually can still save JPGs
but crashes usually while retouching an image with the brush tool).
My machine is a current iMac24 with plenty of free disk space and 4Gigs RAM
I ran disk tools too. no problems here either. Even if I restart and only run PS it still fails.
Adobe you have to fix this. It is completely unacceptable to tell customers to go buy CS4 and have it NOT WORK.
I have used PS for more than a decade and it has been quite good. you have concentrated on bloatware features, too frequent updates to get more money (greed) at the expense of quality.
I do not believe that you are honestly concerned about quality, just more money for overpriced upgrades.

Per my understanding that you can't get the expect result by using the expression "=Count(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4) " to count the the TICKET_STATUS which value is 4, the result will returns the count of all the TICKET_STATUS values(206)
but not 180, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, the issue caused by you are using the count() function in the incorrect way, please modify the expression as below and have a test:
=COUNT(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4 ,1,Nothing))
or
=SUM(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS=4,1,0))
