OEM Oracle10g  and databases = 9i

Hi,
Does OEM (from Ora10g or from Ora9i) make it possible to manage Oracle Databases previous versions : 7.3.4 and/or 8i ... ?
Robert

Sorry for the mistake...
Thanks in advance for any of your reply.

  • OEM Grid and Database version differences

    Hi All,
I have installed OEM 11.1.0.1.0 version and agents which same version are installed in databases like 11.2.0.2 and 11.1.0.7. I have set metrics like Generic Incident,Generic Operational Error and Generic Internal Error with Warning and Critical threshold values. When testing for Alert log, errors are not logged into OEM Grid and no notifications coming to my e-mail configured.
My question: Is this due differences in OEM Grid and databases? As OEM Grid has low version than my databases.
PS: Alerts are coming perfectly to my e-mail for all 10g databases.
Please clarify and help me in this regard.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
The following documentation shows that the Alert Log metrics are not applicable for 11.x databases.

  • OEM Oracle10g / Oracle Databases = 9i

    Hello,
is it possible to manage the Oracle Databases previous versions : 7.3.4 and/or 8i, using OEM (from Ora10g or from Ora9i) ?
    Thank you to help me
    Robert

I know it is possible to use OEM 9i to manage an 8i database. OEM 9i is backward compatible with 8i database. If you need the full functionality of OEM 9i, then you might need to install the agent in a different home on the 8i instance server. Otherwise, you can live with the functionality provided by 8i agent.

  • OEM Grid or Database Control???

Am currently on an aix server moving from 10gR2 to 11gR2 Oracle Enterprise. Have been reading and finding that documentation from Oracle liberally uses the name OEM grid and Database Control as best practices. I realize that both own their own repositories, but can they co-exist?
My second question other than for having a one-stop shop, is there a reason for OEM Grid vs Database Control? Does one hold some functionality that the other doesnt?
My third question , is if using OEM grid, should i be load balancing across multiple servers and or DataGuarding the database that houses the repository.
    Thanks in advance
    Ed Grimm

Yes, OEM Grid Control and Database Control can co-exist.
Database Control allows you to do Database administration tasks on one local database only, namely the database it is installed on.
OEM Grid Control allows you to manage all components within a datacenter (or you could say within the network). So you can actually manage all you databases, application servers, servers, listeners, network components, hardware, Storage Devices, Applications (klike Siebel, Pepoplesoft, E-Business, Forms apps etc.etc).
    So no limitations.
Functionality include: Provisioning of complete clusters databases, virtual machines etc
    Service Level Management
    Application Management
    Configuration Management
    Change Management
The answer to your 3-rd question depends on what availability level you need to implement for the repository, so not different from any other HA - database implementation.
Notmally in a produciton situation you would use multiple Managemetn Servers and a RAC based repository, in that case using load balacners makes sense.

At what point do you get this message?
Have a look at the Windows Service. Ensure the EM Agent is running. Your database and Listener may be running, but if the Agent is not running, you will not be able to see correct status.
    Stop and start the Agent

  • OEM Job and Event  - No Results

    Hi,
How are you doing today? Well, I need your help. I am new DBA for one month old. I want to run OEM Jobs and Events.
I am able to log with sysman/oem_temp
i have created credential for node and database.
I am able to work on other parts except these two.
I am able to create job and event
after creating job . I am getting status as submitted.but it is not executing immediately.it is the same problem with event also.
In event ,one event get registered but another event status is not registered then i have checked for detail
    error is like this
vd:1523 - there is no agent on node(server)
i didn't get what is inteligent agent and how to get it on node?
Well I have created new user with Windows 2000 having privileges for batch processing. same user is created in oracle database as well as oem administrator.
with same user database connection i am trying to create new job and event but it is not executing. i mean no results.
I know I am making you more confused.Sorry.......
I would like to ask your favour can I mail u if I have any query in future.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    -Deepak

The intelligent agent is a process which has to run on the same node like the database you want to supervise with the OEM. You have to install the intelligent agent during the installation process of the database. After having installed the agent you have to start it (via the services panel in Windows). After that you have to ensure that the agent has discovered a database instance on the node (there should be entries for node, listener and database in the services.ora file in the ORACLE_HOME\network\agent directory). If this is all ok and the events or the jobs still doesn't work it may be a communication problem (are you using a firewall between the database node and the management server, or do you use network adress translation?).

  • OEM service and Agent

    Hi:
I would like to set the automatic start up / shutdown for the OEM service and Oracle agent.
Does somebody know how to do it?
    Regards,

I’ll take a shot at this one:
First you need to create a script for rc
A good example that every oracle installation references for linux database installations is the dbora script. Find it and use this as your baseline.
$ORA_OWNER = is the name of the account on linux that has execute permissions to the oracle binaries.
$ORA_HOME = is the path to your oracle product home
    In the start portion add
    su - $ORA_OWNER -c "$ORA_HOME/bin/emctl start agent" > /dev/null 2>&1
    In the stop portion add
    su - $ORA_OWNER -c "$ORA_HOME/bin/emctl stop agent" > /dev/null 2>&1
    As root, type:
              # chkconfig --add dbora
Adds the dbora to the init.d
              # chkconfig –list |grep dbora
    confirm it’s there
              # service dbora on
System will automatically turns it on/off at Startup/shutdown
              # service --status-all | grep dbora
                   confirm it’s there and status
This gives you a startup/shutdown for both the DB and agent
    Good luck

  • Recover Oracle10g RAC Database

    Hi,
Anyone know whether the below backup and restoration works for oracle10g RAC database. I can;t test it out as i don;t have an development environment. Please correct me if i am wrong.
1.) stop all oracle services running on the server
2.) use dd command to backup the raw partition to tape + backup oracle homes on all nodes
3.) Encountered Media failure, change the hardisks
    4.) create the raw partitions
5.) restore the raw partitions backup from tape + restore oracle binaries from tape
    6.) startup all oracle services
    7.) Done.
Thank You, anyone advice and comments are greatly appreciated..

Many thanks for your responses . I finally got it working . It does not require additionalconfigurational change apart from updating the ocr with oifcfg commands(metalink-Note 283684.1 ) i.e. deleting the old entry and setting he new one .
Where I got it wrong was I did not shutdown the nodeapps (which was not included in the metalink note ) before updating the ocr with oifcfg commands
    Thanks ..

  • OEM Repository and Intelligent Agent

How many OEM repository and Intelligent Agent do I need to have to schedule a unique job on three of the 4 databases I have?
    Thanks,
    Mirabelle

If databases are not discovered, you could have a problem with any of the following files.
    listener.ora
    oratab ( UNIX/Linux)
    Microsoft Registry (Windows)
    1. Check the $ORACLE_HOME\network\agent\log\nmiconf.log for warnings or errors.
    2. Verify the database sid exists in the listener.ora file. When the Agent parses the listener.ora, it looks for the "sid_list=...." section. If this section is missing, the Agent will not discover the database.
    3. Verify the database sid exists in the oratab or Microsoft Registry. (In some cases, the sid is case sensitive.)
    4. Stop and Restart the Agent. NOTE: This step is necessary because the Agent will only parse the files during startup.
    5. Check the services.ora file and verify the Database services now exists in the file.
    6. Refresh the Node through the EM Console.

  • Windows OracleService and Database

    Hi,

When I start this service the database BD1 starts and is open, but when I shutdown the databse the OracleServiceBD1 is steel started. What is the difference between the database and OracleServiceBD1?
    Many thanks before.

    >>
Thats true and thre is no strange behavior in this.
Had a look in alert.log file? I mean, when you stop OracleDB service, does your alert log says databse is down?
I guess, due to the unavilability of instance (service), you feel that database is down.
Another thing, when you shutdown database manually using shutdown command, oracle doesn't stop nor terminate its associated services (windows services).

what is difference between sap locking and database locking. Iam locked the table mara by using lock objects.
But iam unable to unlock the mara table. I give u the coding. Please check it.

    Hi Paluri
Here is the difference between SAP locks and Database locks, i will try to find the solution to your code.
    Regards
    Ashish
Database Locks: The database system automatically sets database locks when it receives change statements (INSERT, UPDATE, MODIFY, DELETE) from a program. Database locks are physical locks on the database entries affected by these statements. You can only set a lock for an existing database entry, since the lock mechanism uses a lock flag in the entry. These flags are automatically deleted in each database commit. This means that database locks can never be set for longer than a single database LUW; in other words, a single dialog step in an R/3 application program.
Physical locks in the database system are therefore insufficient for the requirements of an R/3 transaction. Locks in the R/3 System must remain set for the duration of a whole SAP LUW, that is, over several dialog steps. They must also be capable of being handled by different work processes and even different application servers. Consequently, each lock must apply on all servers in that R/3 System.
    SAP Locks:
To complement the SAP LUW concept, in which bundled database changes are made in a single database LUW, the R/3 System also contains a lock mechanism, fully independent of database locks, that allows you to set a lock that spans several dialog steps. These locks are known as SAP locks.
The SAP lock concept is based on lock objects. Lock objects allow you to set an SAP lock for an entire application object. An application object consists of one or more entries in a database table, or entries from more than one database table that are linked using foreign key relationships.
Before you can set an SAP lock in an ABAP program, you must first create a lock object in the ABAP Dictionary.

I do not know what cause these error but the cluster and database can start normal and use normal.
I do not know whether these errors will affect the service.

  • Performance with MySQL and Database connectivity toolbox

    Hi!
I'm having quite some problems with the performance of MySQL and Database connectivity toolbox. However, I'm very happy with the ease of using database connectivity toolbox. The background is:
I have 61 variables (ints and floats) which I would like to save in the MySQL-database. This is no problem, however, the loop time increases from 8ms to 50ms when using the database. I have concluded that it has to do with the DB Tools Insert Data.vi and I think that I have some kind of performance issue with this VI. The CPU never reach more the 15% of its maximum performance. I use a default setup and connect through ODBC.
    My questions are:
    1. I would like to save 61 variables each 8-10ms, is this impossible using this solution?
    2. Is there any way of increasing the performance of the DB Tools Insert Data.vi or use any other VI?
    3. Is there any way of adjusting the MySQL setup to achieve better performance?
Thank you very much for your time.
    Regards,
    Mattias

First of all, thank you very much for your time. All of you have been really good support to me.
    >> Is your database on a different computer?  Does your loop execute 61 times?
Database is on the same computer as the MySQL server.
The loop saves 61 values at once to the database, in one SQL-statement.
I have now added the front panel and block diagram for my test-VI. I have implemented the queue system and separate loops for producer and consumer. However, since the queue is building up faster then the consumer loop consumes values, the queue is building up quite fast and the disc starts working.
The test database table that I add data to is created by a simple:
    create table test(aa int, bb char(15));
...I'm sure that this can be improved in some way.
I always open and close the connection to the database "outside the loop". However, it still takes some 40-50 ms to save the data to the database table - so, unfortunatly no progress to far. I currently just want to save the data.
Any more advise will be gratefully accepted.
    Regards,
    Mattias
