Office 365 general licence question

I am looking to provide a new service to a cluster of schools which will be separate to their every day work. This will be only for select users in about a dozen schools which will help with collaboration and communication for Head Teachers and the deputy
head.
The school have piloted Office 365 Education A3 plan but the service I will provide is going to be through my own company.  My question is this.  Would I apply for a education licences or as it's a service my company is going to offer would I still
have to pay for an enterprise or pro licence?
I hope that makes sense
Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you need to talk to MS Partner Support, since you will be selling/reselling/onselling/upselling ?
Resellers and hosters, have different MS agreements (partner agreements).
The typical "Retail" or "Volume" products, can't be on-sold, I think.

Also If a firm has multiple subscription plans, so is this possible to create two different sites for these different subscriptions. With this the user belongs to subscription 'a' will no be able to see site of other subscription 'b'.

  • Office 365: some basic questions

    Hi,
I've read somewhere that Office 365 will offer unlimited storage via OneDrive.
If that's true, I'd like to sign up for an paying account.
I had a trial running some time ago for my private domain but didn't continue the trial.
    What I'd like to have:
    -unlimited storage for best price
-use my own domain in my mailaddress/outlook account => then I'd need a business account?
-share documents from onedrive to people who don't have a onedrive
    Please advise.

    Hi Jan,
Here are a few references for your question:
All Office 365 customers will get unlimited OneDrive storage at no additional cost, Microsoft has just announced this:
    https://blog.onedrive.com/office-365-onedrive-unlimited-storage/
You can add a domain that you’re already using for email into Office 365 and use it with email and other services:
    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Add-your-domain-to-Office-365-ffdb2216-330d-4d73-832b-3e31bcb5b2a7?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US
Of course, you can share a document to people for unauthenticated access, you can do this by creating a gest link.

  • Office 365 Split domain question

Is it possible to run an on-premise Lync hosting 1 SIP domain, with on premise Exchange running a specific email domain say company1.com
Then have Office 365 host two other SIP and email domains. Company2.com and company3.com
I am trying to get my head around this configuration, or if it's even possible.

    It's documented by TechNet:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj205157.aspx
For outside documentation, a lot of what I'm seeing is outdated, so TechNet may be your best source for up to date information.
And the answer to the DNS question is, it depends.  If you're Office365 only for those sip domains, and on premises only for the other sip domain, it doesn't necessarily even need to be a hybrid deployment.  That said, if it is and users can
cross from on premises to off, the DNS records should point at the on premises deployment:
"When creating DNS SRV records for hybrid deployments, the records, _sipfederationtls._tcp.<domain> and _sip._tls.<domain>, should point to the on premises Access Proxy."
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj205403.aspx
Once they hit the on premises, they will be redirected to the online deployment if that's where their account is homed.

  • Office 365 Litigation Hold Questions

Our organization is going to Office 365 from Google Apps, and we were trying to figure out the best way to approach legal holds.  First of all, I have heard two rumors that I couldn't find a specific answer for.
First, Is litigation hold being deprecated?  I have seen claims from other users online saying that they receive this prompt, but we never received such a prompt and it seems to work fine.
Second, we also heard through a random vendor that license agreements only allow 15% of users in an organization to be on Litigation holds.  I could not find an account of this anywhere online, either...wasn't sure if this is true.
If the two above criteria are true, what we want to do is have ALL users on our domain to have their email held for 1 year, regardless of if they delete it.  Is the Litigation hold the proper option for this, or should we use In-Place
hold or Journaling?  Litigation hold seems to work well for us so far (we are in trials with about 20 users), but I wasn't sure if the above claims were valid.

    Hi,
You might want to take a look at this blog post from The Exchange Team Blog:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/12/11/litigation-hold-and-in-place-hold-in-exchange-2013-and-exchange-online.aspx
"In Exchange 2013 and the new Exchange Online, we introduced In-Place Hold, which allows more flexibility in preserving your data.  "
But you still can use the Litigation Hold in Exchange 2013 and Exchange Online.
"Litigation Hold isn't going away: Since the release of Exchange 2013 and the new Exchange Online, we've received a lot of questions and feedback from you about whether Litigation Hold
will be removed. We want to clarify that we do not plan to remove Litigation Hold from Exchange Online or Exchange 2013."
The "litigation hold is a deprecated feature" alert has been removed.
"We've removed the alert from Exchange Online and in Exchange
2013 SP1. We've also removed the recommendation from Exchange Online and Exchange 2013 documentation."

  • Office 365 RDS licensing question

Dustin, take a look at this when you get a chance: http://blogs.technet.com/b/uspartner_ts2team/archive/2014/09/03/office-365-shared-computer-activatio...
It explains how the Pro Plus version can be installed in RDS/TS environment, and I get the feeling that it is the only version that can be installed that way.
It also notes that installing Office 365 Pro Plus on an RDS/TS machine does not take away from the 5 device cap.

Office 365 has nothing to do with RDS.
If a user has an Office 365 license then they can use that license wherever they log on from. So if the are using a RDS session on a server then they can use there Office 365 license there. Please note that an Office 365 license allows you to install the full suite on 5 devices and the RDS server would be one of these devices.
Connecting to the RDS server is entirely different. In order to connect they user or device must have a RDS license.
    The 2 are unrelated.
I assume from the context of your question that you already have the RDS environment set up and working so it is as simple as installing the office 365 suite onto the RDS server and allowing the 3 users to use it.

  • Office 365 Group Policies question

We initially deployed Office 365 with updates turned off so about half of our users have an old version of Office 365.  We want to now manage the updates using the new group policies for O365.    I read this statement ...In
order for these four new policy settings to work, you will need to have at least the April 2014 build of Office 2013 Click-to-Run (Build 15.0.4605.1003) and download the latest Administrative templates files (ADMX/ADML).
Does this mean that the version on the PC has to have at least the April 2014 build to use the policies?  If that's true how would I go about updating the users who have automatic updates turned off.  there are a couple of thousand users.

    Yes.
Depending on how you deployed/deploy Office365ProPlus, and, the tools/techniques available to you in your environment, there are some options.
    a) re-deploy Office365ProPlus to the computers. Use the latest build version.
    b) check the relevant registry settings, and if correction is needed, deploy the correct registry settings.

  • Questions About Office 365 Capabilities

I am exploring the possibility of putting our organization's Office on, "the cloud" using Office 365 Enterprise E2. I have some questions that are important. Any help will be appreciate.
    1.  I have developed extensive VBA "code behind" on Word files and Excel workbooks that do complex operations.  For instance, I open our Outlook public folder shared contacts to do searches and populate forms and Excel cells.
I use NPOI calls to create downloadable Excel workbooks, etc.  I use calls to SQL to access and query databases and return data.  Is the VBA coding supported with Office 365?  If so, what restrictions might there be over my current situation,
where Exchange and Office are hosted on our servers?
    2.  In general, what restrictions will I encounter with Exchange and Office being hosted by Microsoft, versus these tools being hosted on our servers?
Again, crucial questions and I appreciate any help.  Thanks.

  • Licencing Office 365 on Remote Desktop Services

So I am looking to move to Office 365 in the near future instead of just renewing my SA against Office standard.
I read somewhere that in order to continue to be able to clone these installs as part of my Terminal Server rollout, I need to purchase at least on Office licence on SA.
This is to allows access to the .ISO file and KMS licence. To keep compliant, the rest I will purchase via Office 365.
Does that sound about right and can I use Office 365 Mid Business as the version or does it have to be Pro?

I'm not quite sure what do you mean by "clone these installs as part of my Terminal Serverl...". If you mean use Remote Desktop Services (RDS) to provide shared computers to users in your organization, you can use
shared computer activation to do this.
Please note, you have to do this with
Office Deployment Tool. Here is the reference you'll need:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/uspartner_ts2team/archive/2014/09/03/office-365-shared-computer-activation.aspx

Office 365 has nothing to do with .ISO file and KMS licence. It uses Click-to-Run as the new installation technology, and must be activated with the Microsoft account associated with your subscription.

  • Questions in Office 365 - Product Office Addins - How Best To Set Up Test & Dev Environments

    Hello Team,
One of our customer raised this below query:  (Please refer :
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/172/p/290555/887029.aspx#887029)
We have an existing product which has a set of components which are
Office Addins, working on Office 2007, 2010, 2013.
We have a customer who has asked us to support these on Office 365, as their Microsoft strategy is to move to this platform.
Our understanding is that there are two flavors of Office 365:
A browser-based version written in JavaScript (akin to Google Docs)
version which installs the full Office 2013 on the client, using Click-To-Run as the deployment technology.
We are planning to work with option 2 only just now (for Office 2013 only – not for 2010 or 2007).
In order for us to start working on this, we’ll need Office 365 clients installed both in our development and test environments. We see that we can access Office 365 through our MSDN subscription by doing this:
    a. Launching this site:
    https://mspartner.microsoft.com/en/us/Pages/index.aspx
    b. Signing in
    c. Clicking on Resources->Access my software and keys
    d. Choosing Office 365
However when we do this, we get this information:
"Important Information on activating your cloud licenses Your cloud product key can only be redeemed once. Therefore, in order to activate your Internal-use cloud
licenses on your existing cloud tenant, you MUST sign in BEFORE you activate your 25 digit cloud product key. Once your cloud product key has been redeemed, you will be unable to use it again.
You have the choice to deploy your program license grants as an on-premises only, online only, or an on-premises and online combination solution. Your combined usage
for on-premises Office products and Office 365 may not exceed your program license entitlement. Country and worldwide license maximums apply. To ensure you are compliant with program policy and guidelines, refer to the Product Usage Guide."
We are not clear on what the above means for us exactly, and which option we should choose: on-premises only, online only, or an on-premises and
    online combination solution.
    Please advise. Many Thanks.

  • Office 365 Customers: General Availability for Access Apps

The news hit last month that Access Apps would be available for all Office 365 customers, well now we can all move full speed ahead. So, what does general availability mean? Customers can now create, share, and use the Access Apps with the same level of full
guarantee as the rest of Office 365. Prior to the announcement, the Access Apps were not under the Office 365 service-level agreement (SLA) and were available only under preview.

  • Exchange Online Office 365 integration questions

    Hi Guys,
I am about to setup a pilot and wanted to ask a few questions.
I am planning a multi-domain exchange deployment...where I am hosting my main email on site with a domain of company.com and I want to host 1.company.com and 2.company.com on my office 365 Exchange online implementation. To do this do I have to define the
new domains on my current exchange server and then setup the users on office 365?
one of the things that my user base wants is single sign on but they won't be using rich clients. I know this works well for rich clients, but can single sign on also sign on to Office 365 web and one drive?
I will be implementing ADFS and DIrSync for AD replication and ADFS for single sign on.
How does licensing work? if my entire directory replicates to Office 365 and I only want some users over there activated, how do those I want activated. Can I easily activated a bunch of users for only some services at one time? If I deactivate or delete
an account locally, will  those changes take at office 365? How does that work with licensing? do my licenses get automatically freed up?

    Hi Emil,
    Thank you for your question.
There are two sentences I don’t understand:
    Leave both environments as is
Would this work also (X500 addresses would be written and updated, move requests would work, F/B, etc)?
AD trust is important for us to share organization information between ADs.
AAD has capability which AD and Exchange multi-forest forest environment can be extended to cloud, so we could not run it in both AD environment. There is a alternative solution which use FIM. We could refer to the following link:

  • Question About Migrating to Office 365

After a cutover migration from Exchange 2010 to Office 365, what is involved in cancelling the migration and rolling back to the on-premises Exchange 2010?

    Ed is correct, however if you have not already migrated to O365 you might want to test a single mailbox migrating and rolling back as;
I ran across this post the other day
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/20c46273-e95d-4836-b2a7-903f649282a6/mailbox-default-settings-restore-possible-?forum=exchange2010
Of course this could just be a strange anomaly that you will not experience, however its definitely something to watch/tests and of course monitor the link above to see if a resolution is found.
If you experience the same thing you may want to open a case with MS to resolve
Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 -->

  • Architecture of sharepoint App office 365 questions

    Hello,
This is my first foray into sharepoint hosted app for office 365.      Basically just a List with some fields and lookup fields (cascading dropdowns) ,  the supporting lists for the lookups,   and then another list with Children
    documents of the first list.
So just taking it to the simplest terms a few lists what is the best way to build this?    should I just create the lists and maybe a couple of content types manually in a site on office 365?    Should I create an App that has the list
definitions, content Types, etc?   Should I Create an app that has the content types and javascript necessary for the cascading dropdowns and then just create the list manually?    I'm just trying to figure out what makes the most sense.
This is something we want everyone in company to use to submit requests for service so we don't want a bunch of instances of it all over our office 365 we just want to deploy it once.   Also need to be able to update design easily.
So just being a newby to office 365 I'm trying to wrap my head around how I should put this together.
    Thanks for any input,
    Brad

If this is going to be an app that you want to maintain with new versions then you should create an app that provisions the lists and content types. This way you can make changes to lists, contentypes and site columns in later versions and leverage the O365
infrastructure to automatically update the existing apps. Some links are here:
