Office Admin Templates

Not sure if I should be posting this here or in a Group Policy forum; however, I'll try here first (apologies if I am wrong)
I've applied the Office 2010 and Office 2013 Admin Templates to the PolicyDefinitions directory on our network
When I go to set  under the User Config\Admin Templates\Microsoft Outlook 201x\Outlook Social Connector section it comes up as Extra Registry Settings.
Do I have to use an ADM template for this instead to have it come up a tad more proper?

"Extra Registry Settings" appears, when you have settings defined in a GPO, but the machine performing RSoP (or gpresult or GPMC) does not have access to the updated Admin Template.
Your scenario can occur, if you are using a Central Store.
Are you using a CS?
Are you using an older OS to execute the RSoP/gpresult/GPMC ?
(older OS = older than Vista. WinXP and WS2003 can't deal with ADMX at all. If you are using older OS, you *could* use ADM there, but ADM has other negative implications...)
[Yes, this is more of a GP question, rather than Office. This symptom occurs wherever there are templates-not-found. The old ADM model solved that issue in a not-very-pretty way, i.e. by copying the ADM files into *every* GPO :( ]

  • Office Administrative Template installation with 32 and 64 bits clients

    Hello,
I would like to install the Office Administrative Templates (2007, 2010, 2013) but I don't really understand how.
I have several clients computers :
-Windows XP and 7 (the XP will disappear but not now so I have to handle with)
    - 32 and 64 bits (OS and associate Office version)
    - two Office languages (English and French)
In this case, what I have to put in the domain controllers (or in the central store for GPO, not matters), to cover all the cases ?
I do not understand the x86 or x64 Office administrative templates versions neither how the languages are managed.
    Thanks a lot.

The Office2013 Admin Templates+OCT is available in both 32bit and 64bit formats
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35554
Because the download contains the Templates *and* the OCT (OPAX/OPAL and various DLLs etc), and, the OCT itself and also the OCT output file (a customization MSPfile) is architecture-specific, that is why there is a 32bit and a 64bit download.
The ADMX/ADML files themselves, are not architecture-specific.
ADMX and OPAX, is language-neutral, the language-specific details are contained within ADML/OPAL.

  • FEP 2010 Admin Template Breaks GPResult /H on SCCM 2012 clients

We have both FEP 2010 clients, which are being managed by a GPO created from the FEP2010 Admin Template in our Central store, and SCCM 2012/SCEP clients which are being managed by
SCCM but we have noticed when running GPResult /h on the SCCM clients, you get an error in the Administrative Template section:
An error has occurred while collecting data for Administrative Templates.
    The following errors were   encountered:
Registry   value "%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore\Logs\Edb.chk" is of   unexpected type.
We have discovered the SCCM/SCEP client local policy creates the exclusion paths in the registry as a DWORD but the FEP2010 Admin Template creates the exclusion paths
as a REG_SZ on the FEP 2010 clients. When you run GPResult /h, the templates from the Central Store are used and since the value types are different on the SCCM/SCEP 2012 client, GPResult /H fail.
The current work-around is to create a GPO using the FEP 2010 Admin Template with the exclusion paths that are the same as your SCCM 2012 settings and apply that GPO to the SCCM Clients. That changes the registry keys from DWORD to REG_SZ
    and GPResult start working again!!
    Running GPResult /Z also works!!
Any one else experience this behavior?

    Hi,
I tried and found that the value type is different too. The DWORD value for Forefront Client also works, so the workaround you are currently using is applicable. Anyway, I will record the situation that the ADMX template has a different value type with SCEP
    policy value.

  • Office 2010 Template - Error 0x80070645

I created an Office 2010 Professional Plus virtual app using the Office 2010 Template from ZAV 10.
It works fine when I launch Office from the executable.
However, when I launch it indirectly by double-clicking a .docx or .xlsx file, this message appears: "The applicate has encountered an error. This action is only valid for the products that are currently installed. (0x80070645)"
I am using Spoonreg.exe to register the virtual app.
I get the above error on both XP and Windows 7.
There was a forum thread a few years ago about fixing this issue for Office 2003 and Office 2007. I wonder if anybody knows how to fix it for Office 2010?
    Thank you.

I don't have Office 2010 to test with, so can't offer much help in getting that working, but I'm wondering if you can use ZAV to build an MSI for this? Usually, spoonreg is the better option, but an MSI might actually work better here.
What OS did you use to template Office 2010? 32-bit or 64-bit? Does that match the OS you're using to test?
I think this is the thread you might be talking about:

  • Office 2013 - Templates contacting MS Server

    Dear Community,
I've installed Office 2013 Std. on one of our Windows 7 (32 bit) without Office templates. But when I start Word or Excel, the system is always asking for a username & password. This message popups, because our proxy is blocking the connection to: office15client.microsoft.com
We won't allow the access to that and what I don't understand is: we installed without templates, but Office 2013 wants to connect to the internet. Has anyone an idea how to disable that?
    Thanks for helping/discussing.

    Hi,
How did you install Office 2013 without templates?  Based on my test, only Access and Outlook have templates in the installation.
And try to uncheck File>options>trust center>trust options>privacy> "Allow office to connect to the internet" option in Excel 2013 and Word 2013 to check the issue.

  • Office 2013 templates Group Policies

There is a GPO related to Enterprise template locations in Office 2013 that is not clear at all and poorly documented. The path to the GPO is:
MS Office 2013 > Shared Paths > Enterprise templates path
What is the purpose and how this path can be used? What is the difference between using this GPO and the following GPOs that I have been using in the past:
MS Office 2013 > Shared Paths > Workgroup templates path
MS Office 2013 > Shared Paths > User templates path
PowerPoint 2013/Word 2013 > Miscellaneous > Personal templates path for PPT or Word
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Petrika,
    See the following;
This policy will set the following regkey:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\General]
    "CorporateTemplates" (REG_SZ or REG_EXPAND_SZ)
You can however also deploy this setting as normal user preference (not as policy), e.g.:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\General]
    "CorporateTemplates"="\\server\share\corporatethemes"
We are using "Templates" for the regkey and policy description which is somewhat misleading. What we really mean is "Corporate Design Theme Templates" for PowerPoint.
A "Theme" basically contains the following design elements:
    • Font
    • Colors
    • Styles/Effects
Office contains several different design themes out of the box but it is possible to define your own design themes for personal use or for corporate use. This policy targets the corporate use of such themes.
Personal themes are typically stored in the user profile under "%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Templates\Document Themes".
You can store corporate templates somewhere on a file share and deploy a policy so PowerPoint will always enumerate these themes when displaying them in the themes gallery.
In order to visualize this feature please just try the following:
    1. Open the "Design" Tab in PowerPoint and expand the Themes Gallery:
    2. You will see a list of Themes and where they are coming from. Currently we see the design in this presentation, maybe custom themes if you once saved your own theme(s) and the Office native themes:
    3. Now click on "Save Current Theme…" and save the current theme as "MyTestTheme" to a file share (e.g.
    \\server\share\corporatethemes)
Now set a policy or simply set the following regkey in order to load corporate themes from this file share:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\General]
    "CorporateTemplates"="\\server\share\corporatethemes"
    4. Reboot PowerPoint so this setting takes effect
    5. Look into the used file share. It now contains a subfolder "Document Themes" with a thmx file (this is your theme definition) and three subfolders where settings for your design colors, fonts and effects are stored:
    6.  Now let's look again into PowerPoints's style gallery in the Design tab. This time you see one category more in the list of available themes: You see your corporate theme that you just saved in step 3.
    7. Sometimes customers do not want the native themes to be displayed but only the corporate themes. This should make it more likely that users are using only corporate themes and not other themes when creating new presentations.
In this case you can set the following regkey or policy key:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\PowerPoint\Options]
    "ThemesGalleryShowCorporateOnly"=Dword:0x00000001
    8. If you restart PowerPoint you now see only the default Office-Theme but all other pre-installed office themes are not listed any more
Ok, so bottom line is that you can design your own corporate themes in Office 2013. For PowerPoint (where these themes are mainly used and where corporate design guides are often used) you can specify a central file share where you store your own corporate
design themes. Users will get these themes listed in the design gallery if you are using the "Enterprise Templates" policy.

  • Having problems with OPA 10 and office 2007 templates

    Hi,
I have a OPA 10 and office 2007 set up which is having some issues with the macros. Seems to me that the visual basic code is not kicking off really well sometimes. I am trying to map the sequence which leads to the errors and I believe that the issue is around opening an old word doc which has a old template version (.dot). This may be the cause for OPA getting lost when working with word 2007.
For example, I ask to open a rules doc and the visual basic tells me that OPA couldn't open the doc but word is opening the doc anyway. However none of the toolbar commands work as well as I can 't save the doc etc.
Have you experienced any issue with OPA 10 and Office 2007? Any special word configuration? Should i go back to office 2003?
BTW, I have both dotm and dot templates loaded as add-ins in word. The dotm toolbar looks good but the dot toolbar is a bit strange in 2007.
    Cheers,
    Paulo

    Hi Paulo,
Have a look at the following tips from Davin Fifield about troubleshooting the toolbar.
Sometimes when using Oracle Policy Modeling, Microsoft Word documents that are part of a Policy Modeling project may appear without the OPA toolbar (in Office 2003) or OPA options on the Add-Ins ribbon (in Office 2007) when opened in Microsoft Word.
This problem can be caused by various factors.
Here are the top three troubleshooting steps to try to recover from this situation.
    1. With your project open in Oracle Policy Modeling, run Update Oracle Policy Templates from the Tools menu. This will attempt to make sure the correct Word template is attached to each project Word document that is not currently excluded from the build. Open a Word document to see if the toolbar/ribbon is now displayed correctly. If not, continue to step 2.
    2. Try changing the UI language for your project. To do this, choose Options, from the Tools menu in Oracle Policy Modeling. Select Environment. Selet General. Under Authoring UI Language, choose a language other than your preferred UI language, and click OK. Then repeat these steps to revert to your preferred language. Open a Word document to see if the toolbar/ribbon is now displayed correctly. If not, continue to step 3.
    3. Open one of the Word documents in your Policy Modeling project. Run the macro UpdateToolbar: In Word 2007, choose the View ribbon, then select Macros/View Macros, highlight the UpdateToolbar macro, then choose Run.
    Does this resolve your issue?

For the first setting, we can find the location here:

  • ADM template for office and AD - Group policy

    Hi,
I need to enforce English (UK) as the editing language in office application (2010 & 2013).
I have downloaded the ADM template saved it on C drive on the AD server.
Then I loaded the ADM template for office to a GOP which I created on test basis and added an AD user to it.
On the template I enabled the setting for primary editing language as English (UK) .
on the client side , when I open an office application eg outlook or word, I can still see English (US) as the set language.
what am I doing wrong ?
also how do I use the ADMX template ? because when from the GPO editor I try to browse add the its template the window show blank.

    Hi,
From Windows 2008 R2, the current version of Administrative Template files are ADMX files. The GPMC displays these settings under the Administrative Templates node.
However, the GPMC still recognizes ADM files and displays these settings under the Classic Administrative Templates node, which is a child node to Administrative Templates .
Checkout the below link on installing ADM files,

  • Office 2013 Administrative Template files (ADMX/ADML) and Office Customization Tool

When I download the Office 2013 Admin Template files (ADMX/ADML) and OCT I get 3 files. Admin, AMDX and a excel spreadsheet. Is the Admin
folder the ADML folder? Reason I ask is b/c I'm trying to disable the Offie 2013 Startup screen via GPO and I have been directed to save the ADMX to %systemroot%PolicyDefinitions and ADML to %systemroot%PolicyDefinitions\en-us
on my base image that I am creating so obviously the ADMX is straight forward, but not the ADML since all I see is Admin. thanks,
    SSC

    Hi,
When you downloaded an Office Administrative Template files, please extract them to your driver, say
D:\.  You need to copy all .admx file under D:\..\ADMX folder into
    %systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions. It’s a root-level folder, which contains all language-neutral ADMX files.
Then please copy all .adml files under D:\...\ADML\en-us into
%systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions\EN-US. This subfolder contains the language-specific ADML resource files. You can create subfolder of %systemroot\PolicyDefinitions for each language that you will use.
For how to load the Administrative Template files, please follow the instructions for "Loading the ADMX templates" in Use Group Policy to enforce Office 2010 settings:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179081.aspx . Although the article is for Office 2010, the Administrative Templates information also applies to Office 2013.

  • Using SharePoint 2013 Document Library for Office 2010 Workgroup Templates

    Dear all,
we are about to introduce SharePoint 2013 and are looking for a way to use it as location for our Office 2010 workgroup templates. But when I try to configure it with in Word options it tells me that URLs are not allowed here.
I've searched this forum but saw no thread that has a solution so far.
So I just want to know if anyone implemented this feature or even has an idea that could work...
    Thank you in advance,
    Uwe

    Hi,
Based on my tested in my environment ( Word 2010 & Share Point 2013), we can't point to the SharePoint library URL directly with Workgroup Templates.
    Please try the workaround:
Sync the SharePoint site libraries to local disk.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/sync-onedrive-for-business-or-sharepoint-site-libraries-to-your-computer-HA102832401.aspx
Set the Workgroup Template to a local drive (to create the reg key)
Open regedit and set the location to the mapped drive:
    Setting Name: SharedTemplates (Type REG_SZ)

  • Custom templates deploying for office 2010

    Hello
I am stuck on deploying custom office templates following the guide on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc178976(v=office.14).aspx
The problem is, templates for Word, Excel, PowerPoint are no problem.
but what about Theme Templates, Chart templates??
I can put theme templates under "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Document Themes 14", but is it the best way?
We want to have a common plats for templates, not per user. Like C:\Office\Templates
    Thanks for any input.

    Hello,
You can use Microsoft Office Word to change the location in which your new templates are saved. To do this, follow these steps:
Note If you use Word 2010 to change the location in which your new templates are saved, you also change the location in which
All other Office program templates are saved.
    Start Word.
Choose Options from the File menu.
    Click Advanced.
    Under General, click File Locations.
Click User templates, and then click Modify.
In the Modify Location dialog box, change the setting in the
Folder name list or the Look in list to the folder in which you want to save your new templates. Then, click
    OK.
Click OK or Close to close the Options dialog box.
The changed path is noted in the Windows registry. The path is used the next time that you want to save a new template.
You can also create custom tabs that appear in the Templates dialog box by creating a new folder in the Templates folder in your profile. Tabs that have the same name as a new folder appear in the Templates dialog box. These tabs
let you categorize your new templates even more.
