  • How can I use Office Update without the Office CD?

How can I use Office Update without the Office CD? On the microsoft website I've clicked the options which mean I shouldn't need the CD (which wasn't supplied with the laptop), but poartway through updating the service pack I get a request for the Office 2000 Professional CD.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi
Did you mean a Office or One Note?
As far as I know the One Note is a part of the Recovering Image and the CD is not delivered with the unit. Furthermore the Toshiba units are not delivered with the Office 2000 software.
Nevertheless, did you check the update function in the Help i.e. in Word?
There you will find a options called Check for Updates

I do not wish to disable the pdfmaker add-in as I use it to run mail merge on WORD and send 10s and 1000s of pdfs via email to external users. I am not sure what are my options here and I wish

Adobe Reader MUI X and Adobe Acrobat X

    Hi,
As the event log indicated, this is due to acrobat pdfmaker office com addin doesn't work well with Microsoft Word.
I would suggest you go ahead and try to upgrade your Adobe product to the latest version and see if issue persists.
Or contact the support of Adobe and see if there is a known compatibility issue or not.

  • Whats the best way to apply office updates during OSD task sequence with Software Update Agent disabled?

I am trying to update office via the SCCM 2012 R2 OSD task sequence. I know offline updating only updates the core components in the WIM and I'm trying to figure out how to add office updates as well. I am aware of using powershell to try and kick off
a WU scan as seen here:
    http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/01/24/use-powershell-commands-to-assist-with-patching-during-sccm-image-build/
But the kicker is we don't use SCCM to update the workstations (Solo WSUS install). Is there a way to do this (maybe set the client in the TS to switch on SUP, then off again when it goes off into production) rather than have to build a new image every month?

You could use the ZTI_WindowsUpdates.wsf script from MDT.
    http://scriptimus.wordpress.com/2012/03/22/mdt-2012-automating-updates-in-lite-touch-deployments/
    How does it work?
The task sequence steps run a script called ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf. The script uses the
Windows Update Agent API to manage the downloading and installation of updates. All audit information is written to the
ZTIWindowsUpdate.log file. If you find any unusual error codes in your log returned from the API (although I never have)  you can compare the codes
here. The script will also check and update the
Windows Update Agent(WUA) as needed at the start.
In its default state, the ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf script will connect to Microsoft Update then search for and download all available updates including Security Patches, Drivers, Browser Updates and Service Packs. This is essentially the same
as opening the GUI and selecting check for updates.

  • Database daemon and SyncServicesAgent won't close during MS Office Update Install

While running Microsoft Office Updater I tried to close apps that were preventing the Installer from continuing. Two apps wouldn't close: Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent. Out of desperation rather than knowledge I ran the Disk Utility and repaired permissions. BINGO! the Installer closed the errant apps and completed its task. What is going on? I read the same advice repeatedly in this forum that repairing permissions is a waste of time. Clearly not in this case I think.

A message to quit applications occurs in Office for Mac
If you see a message to "quit the following applications"  while installing an update for Microsoft Office for Mac  (See image) , click Continue, and then quit the applications listed in the message. To quit an application, click its name on the Apple menu bar, and then click Quit <application name> or press COMMAND Q. You can also quit an application if it has an icon in the Dock by pressing the CONTROL key, clicking the icon, and then clicking Quit.
You'll also have to turn off Sync Services in Outlook. To do this, start Outlook, click Outlook > Preferences, and then choose Sync Services under Other. Uncheck all boxes and then quit Outlook.
You should now be able to install the update for Office.
NOTE The message to quit applications may also appear if you're installing Microsoft Office for Mac. Follow the same steps to quit the applications before you install Office.

  • Mac address book blank after MS Office update

After using the stupid MS Office Updater on prompt, I find that all my contacts are missing from my Mac Address Book! I didn't even install Outlook but the stupid Updater did. My contacts aren't there though and sync is off.
I tried restoring the Address Book folder in the Library/Application support from Time Machine. Nothing.
I tried deleting the AddressBook-v22.abcddb file. Still nothing.
I tried deleting com.apple.AddressBook.plist. Nope. And the other prefs file, too.
I've tried these things several times, different sequence, restarting, yadayada.
I've been troubleshooting my own Mac's since the MacPlus and never been so stumped! I hate M$!
    Ran this in terminal:
    ls -aleO Library/Application Support/AddressBook
ls: Library/Application: No such file or directory
ls: Support/AddressBook: No such file or directory
    leslie-wintners-MacBook-Pro:~ leia$
    (No such file or directory?!!!!)
I will appreciate some expert advice and direction here. Thanks!
    OS 10.6.8 MacBook Pro

Hi sig, Thanks for the reply.
My Address Book was fine before installing this update. The earliest TM I have? And lose all the work I've done on this machine?
I've seen reports that other people had their contacts moved from Address Book to Outlook after this update. So, it seems very likely. Either it's the Update or the PowerPoint I opened that prompted me to update had a virus!
Since I posted, I went to the Genuis Bar, where I surprisingly got lectured about recovery is not what they do, and they could spend only 15 minutes with a customer, spending most of the time on the lecture, ultimately refering me to an expert. He found corruption on my HD and told me to wipe the drive and restore from backup. Ughh.
However, I reran DU and repaired the disk, tested the hardware even. DU reports the disk is ok now.
    Yet, no Address Book.
Before I resort to wiping, I'm wondering if I could detect if I had a received a rare Mac virus...

  • Slipstream Office Updates with WDS

    Hi guys,
I have a problem with slipstreaming the Office 2010 updates. We use a WDS server to do this. During the installation process, WDS needs to slipstream the Office updates. However, this does not happen. When the Office setup is completed we have noticed that
the Office updates are not installed (SP2 and other updates). Because of this, the updates are retrieved by Windows Update. The updates can be found on our network share in \Apps\Office2k10\x32\Updates. Also Office setup looks in this folder during the installation
for the updates but the updates are still not installed.
We really don't know what the problem is. Hopefully you guys can help me with this.
    Kind regards,
    Mo

    Hi,
What's the folder structure of your Office installation source?
Remember that you'll need to extract all the files from service pack's EXE file first, then copy the content (several .txt, .xml, .msp files) into the Updates folder.
For more information about Using the Updates folder to deploy software updates during an Office 2010 installation, please refer to:

  • MAC OS X updater and Office Update?

    Hello everyone
I have MAC OS X TIGER and am about to install MS Office. I know that the MSN Messenger 4.0 is included and will work together with the Office Apps. But I also know that there is already version 5.1.1 available online. My question is: Will MAC OS X handle an update if I install 4.0 with the whole package or would I have to skip Messenger and download the new one afterwards? I am asking this because I think the Messenger will work better with Word etc. if it is installed right with these apps and updated later. But I am not sure wether and how these updates work and wether MAC OS X handles them or Office itself.
    Thank you for your response!

    Hi Jerome
Microsoft Office Updater will handle the updates. Not Mac OSX. If it doesn't handle Messenger, you can still check for updates in Messenger manually. I don't think it would matter if you skipped on the initial download and just download the new version.
Tiger comes with iChat. I don't use Messenger, so I don't know if there are any advantages to having it over iChat. I don't really use iChat that much either, but I am able to converse with people using Messenger the same with no problems. You may want to explore that first.

  • How To: Deploying Windows & Office updates during task sequence

How do you guys apply windows and office updates during the task sequence?
Right now for Windows, I am offline servicing using my software deployment package.
For Office, I had the software deployment package, but can't figure out how to add it to my task sequence. All the options don't allow me to choose the package.
My end goal is to keep everything as up to date as possible, and if people image a computer and run Windows Update, they only have to download 10 or less updates, not 100+.

Is Office part of your image or do you deploy Office as part of your task sequence?
If office is part of your image, i'd recommend that you create a fully automated build and capture process using the MDT lite touch, and use a separate WSUS server to update the image with Windows , Office and other updates.
    It's pretty easy to setup.
Creating a Windows 8.1 reference image:
    http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9845755
If Office is not part of the image, you need to deploy the updates using Software Updates In SCCM as part of your Task Sequence.
Ronni Pedersen | Microsoft MVP - ConfigMgr | Blogs:
    www.ronnipedersen.com/ and www.SCUG.dk/ | Twitter
    @ronnipedersen
It's a task sequence. I'm confused how Software Updates works with SCCM because I do not want to use it to update All Systems. I only want to update it to computers that get imaged which are Unknown Computers. We have WSUS to take care of updates.
If I deploy to Unknown Computers the updates in SCCM, once it joins the domain though to install all the other applications in the task sequence, will updates still go through now that it isn't a "Unknown ComputeR"?

  • Ever since the last Microsoft Office update, I can't open some files

A couple days ago, I downloaded an update that said it modified some Microsoft Office code, and ever since that time I get errors when opening some Word and Excel files.  Interestingly, when "the application quite unexpectedly" message appears and I try to report it to Apple, it then tells me that the reporting process quit (this makes me very nervous)!
How do I get my old Office reliability back?

Sounds like you need to contact Microsoft Office for Mac technical support.  If it was their Office update, they'd be better able to help you.

  • MS Office Update 12.1.0 is out...

For those of us bedeviled with having to use MS Office, update 12.1.0 is out as of today, a 180MB download if you want the disk image containing the updater. Maybe AutoUpdate is smaller.
Comments, warnings, etc., would be welcome. Especially gotchas, so we won't be blaming our poor Macs about something due to MS' 'fine' products....

daymn. out of curiosity, does anything else happen for you when those messages get printed in the console? for me, it effectively rendered the office suite unusable, as all applications would bring up the beloved beachball of death every couple of seconds, and would give strange oddities on the screen like these:
    - excel
    - office screwup (excel was running in background)
this was pretty scary so i reverted back to Office 2004, which runs like the wind! who would have thought that office 2008 was just vista for mac in disguise...

  • So my iPhone 4S started draining battery after recent update, battery got changed and it worked perfect for 3 days, all of a sudden the phone won't stay on unless connected to mains... Cannot receive any signal "searching" constantly. HELP

So my iPhone 4S started draining battery after recent update, battery got changed and it worked perfect for 3 days, all of a sudden the phone  shut down and now won't stay on unless connected to mains... Claims its at 100% battery but thats impossible as it was at 30% before it shut down randomly.
Cannot receive any signal "searching" constantly.
Turns off as soon as removed from usb ... wont stay on connected to laptop!
    HELP!

The iPhone includes a one year warranty. If an Apple store is not nearby, you can call AppleCare and handle an exchange under warranty over the phone. The exchange will be shipped to your door - someone must sign for the delivery so if no one will be at home, have it delivered where you work. You use the same box to return the existing iPhone back to Apple. Return shipping label and tape to reveal the box incuded - call the carrier with number incuded when the box is ready to be picked up. AppleCare will request a credit card in the event the existing iPhone is not returned within 10 days after the exchange under warranty is received.
Hardware can fail - it happens, which is why there is a one year warranty.

  • Turn off during windows office update

Now I have updates that did not install properly, icons disappeared, and I cannot uninstall the updates. How do I get rid of all office updates?

, and I cannot uninstall the updates.
Not sure what steps you've tried, the recommended method is to remove the updates from the Control Panel. Most updates can be removed this way:
Control Panel-> Uninstall a Program-> View installed updates
If you've tried this to no avail, you can first try to repair Office from Control Panel and see if it works. Just right click Office product from the program list in Control Panel and then select
    Change>Repair.
If issue persists after the repair, you might want to uninstall and then reinstall Office on your computer.
System Restore affects Windows system files, programs, if you don't have a very latest restore point, and you've made significant changes to your PC recently, then this needs to be considered carefully.
