'offline or reservation conflict' WARNING'

I have a fairly new Solaris 10 server connected to SAN SToragetek 6140. I noticed when I rebooted yesterday the following in /var/adm/messages:
Dec 5 09:51:18 ariel scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /scsi_vhci/ssd@g600a0b800029ba4e000005ae47534d9c (ssd19):
Dec 5 09:51:18 ariel      offline or reservation conflict
ssd19 is set up as a snapshot volume and would have been inactive at the time of the reboot - does this explain the error message?
Thanks
Diana

When the node boots, you will always see the offline messages until the node joins the cluster and is given the keys to access the shared disks.
Just to cover the basics:
1) The hosts are setup as solaris mpxio (explicit failover)
2) Each host has a connection to each controller (i.e., there are no cabling issues where one host goes to one controller and the other host goes to the other controller.)
You should see (via luxadm) one primary and one secondary path, only 1 of which is active like this:
root[alinghi:/root]# luxadm display /dev/rdsk/c6t600A0B800029A2780000077446CC68BCd0s2

Having two online paths would be a bad thing in your case and result in the issues you are seeing.
You will also want to verify that the 2nd node is up. At that point the system will have 2 out of 3 votes and thus operational quorum.
Of course, if the cables are correct and both nodes running, then somebody with better troubleshooting skills than me will have to step in :-)

  • Warning: offline or reservation conflict

    Hello!
Since last week I am trying to rebuild a previously working cluster setup. Two servers with two HBAs each are cross-connected to one Sun 6140. After enabling the multipath-software, mpathadm shows me two working paths for each server.
Then I installed the cluster software, formed the cluster and patched it. Now I get those messages on the console while booting:

WARNING: CMM: Reading reservation keys from quorum device /dev/did/rdsk/d4s2 failed.
NOTICE: CMM: Cluster doesn't have operational quorum yet; waiting for quorum.Does anyone know what causes this? Can I trust mpathadm if it says a path is "OK"?
    TIA

  • Scsi offline or reservation conflict errors afer swapping HBAs

We swapped out all of our EMC branded Emulex LP10000 HBAs and replaced them with the Sun branded Emulex LP11000 (SG-XPCI1FC-EM4-Z). We now receive a steady stream of SCSI errors in /var/ad/messages similar to the following:
    Nov 8 13:37:29 fhtulsaps201 scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /ssm@0,0/pci@19,600000/SUNW,emlxs@1/fp@0,0/ssd@w50060482d52dd0b7,16 (ssd27):
Nov 8 13:37:29 fhtulsaps201 offline or reservation conflict
These devices are target devices from a remote server and are kept in sync using EMCs RecoverPoint appliances. They are normally in a read write disabled state. I do not have access to SRDF but expect I would get the same errors since SRDF also puts the target devices in the same read write disabled state.
As you can see the messages file fills up rather quickly and is basically unusable.

As a part of the HBA upgrade we applied several kernel patches so at this point I'm not sure if the new HBAs are to blame or one of the patches.
The old HBAs never produced these errors.
I would like to know it there's a way to reduce the logging output from the scsi driver.
    Thanks for any help.

We see the same error, though not nearly in such abundance, on our Clariion systems when they are using "explicit trespass" mode. In this mode the "passive" path is completely inaccessible until a special control message is sent to it. Veritas sends that special control message when the primary path has failed (EMC's PowerPath does the same thing).
I know EMC recommends this because you should never end up with I/O going to the wrong service processor accidentally (a trespass) because it simply won't service such I/O's unless explicitly told to do so (gee, I wonder where the name explicit trespass came from? :)
I'd guess your RecoverPoint devices behave similarly.
The relevant code appears to this this bit from http://src.opensolaris.org/source/xref/onnv/onnv-gate/usr/src/uts/common/io/scsi/targets/sd.c#9589:
       9570           /*
9571            * If the target is not yet ready here (defined by a TUR
9572            * failure), invalidate the geometry and print an 'offline'
9573            * message. This is a legacy message, as the state of the
9574            * target is not actually changed to SD_STATE_OFFLINE.
       9575            *
9576            * If the TUR fails for EACCES (Reservation Conflict),
9577            * SD_RESERVED_BY_OTHERS will be returned to indicate
9578            * reservation conflict. If the TUR fails for other
       9579            * reasons, SD_NOT_READY_VALID will be returned.
9580            */I'm not a SCSI expert by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems to me that either Solaris is misinterpreting the "EACCES" error code or EMC is mis-using it. Could be that there's no good code in the SCSI protocol to say "Yea, I'm here, but I won't talk to you right now" except this one.
This exists in the "sd_ready_and_valid" function which appears to be called any time I/O is attempted to the device if the geometry of the device is not yet known (which it never will be for these standby devices).
So, in summary, if your system can "see" a SCSI LUN which responds to a Test Unit Ready (TUR) with "EACCES" then you're going to be seeing these messages. I think your only hope it to check your systems carefully and find out what process is trying to do I/O to them and fix that process.
    Best of luck!

  • How do we find out what the conflicts are when the metadata conflict warning appears?

How do we find out what the conflicts are when the metadata conflict warning appears?

LR doesn't provide any way to do that.  If you are really curious, you could use the free Exiftool to capture the metadata in the file before and after you do Metadata > Save Metadata To File, and then compare the before and after.
Also note that many people have reported spurious notifications that a file's metadata has changed.

  • Reservation conflict after patching

    Hi All,
I just added the latest SunCluster patches and some adjustment to the
ssd.conf file. After this I got reservation conflicts on all LUN:s that belongs to the cluster. I'm able to switch a resource group to the newly patched node after
doing scsi scrub an all the LUN:s that belongs to the RG .
I'm I way lost here?, is it a normal state that a disk-path does not have any reservation keys?

    Hi,
I'm pretty sure that SCSI3-PGR is used here. The default_fencing
for all disks is global. And it seems like it is derived this from the global_fencing that was set to prefer3.
Even though it looks ok I still got the reservation panics
when moving a disk to the other node.
It seems like scrubbing and recreate the keys is the
only way out here. And then be able to patch the second
    node.
    # grep access_mode /etc/cluster/ccr/infrastructure
    cluster.quorum_devices.2.properties.access_mode scsi3
All shared disks looks the same.
    # ./scsi -c inkeys -d /dev/did/rdsk/d80

    0x460a6dfb00000002
    0x460a6dfb00000001

  • Reservation Conflict Cause Cluster Panic

    Solaris 10 u4/Sun cluster 3.2 u1/IBM storage DS8000
In my two nodes cluster, rebooting node A will cause node B rebooting too. The panic info in the /var/adm/messages is followed.
But if I change the "auto-failback" from "enable" to "disable" in "/kernel/drv/scsi_vhci.conf", this problem disappeared.
Is there anybody know the cause ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Sorry we missed that question.
I would urge you to open a call at sun support on that issue, becaus thi is normally a missed quorum device, but not if you can fix the issue just by changing a driver setting.

  • Resource Conflict Warning (ACPI/NON-ACPI devices) while installing solaris

    Hi,
I am trying to install Solaris 8 on my system.
    Intel Celeron 1.7 Ghz
    128 MB RAM
Gigabyte 8LD 533K Motherboard with Intel Chipset.
While installing, the second installation screen titled "Bus
    Enumeration" gives the following warning.
    Warning: Resource Conflict:
    ACPI Device: PNP0C01.
Memory: (about 5 to 6 memory addresses in hexadecimal form are shown)
    NON-ACPI Device: PNP0C01.
Memory: (about 5 to 6 memory addresses in hexadecimal form are shown,
which are different from the ones shown under the ACPI device list)
I ignored the message and pressed F2 key as suggested.
The next screen "Solaris Boot" comes and after choosing the CD (as
the target from which the OS is to be installed), The next screen
comes up asking me to chose the type of installation 1) Solaris
Interactive and 2) Jumpstart. No matter which option I choose, the
system shows 2-3 messages, and even before I can read them, the
system reboots. Thus I am unable to install Solaris.
I searched on Google and as one person had suggested tried tweaking
the BIOS. (Disable APM etc). But it did not work, because I don't
have an option that specifically gives the Disable/Enable option for
APM. I get the Advanced Power Management screen, but it shows some
    different options.
I spoke about this problem with a friend who has some experience on
Solaris and he put the CD Drive and the Hard Disk on two different
buses, but it didn't help. I still get the same message.
I would be very grateful if someone could suggest a method so I can
    install Solaris.
    Regards,
    pmu

The next screen comes up asking me to chose the type of installation 1) Solaris
Interactive and 2) Jumpstart. At this screen, type
    b kadb -v
instead of choosing 1) or 2). Now you should be able to read the error messages from the kernel that
    prevent booting into Solaris.

    A couple more questions:
    - does clq status show that the quorum vote is counted correctly?
    - what kind of storage are you using
    - are these newly created LUNs that you are using or is it possible that these have been used before by other hosts or clusters?
    - any interesting error messages in the log files - /var/adm/messages
    - what is the panic string of the other node that reboots?
I do not think that the did related message is relevant in this context.

  • Install device conflict for Solaris 9 on V60X

    Can anyone help
Getting the following message when installing Solaris 9 on v60x using raid 1 ...
Warning: Resource Conflict - both devices are added

    Port:3F0-3F5, 3F7, IRQ: 6; DMA: 2
    ACPI device: ISY0050
    Port:3F2-3F3, 3F4-3F5, 3F7; IRQ: 6; DMA: 2

Cool, so i ignore the device conflict warning message and carry on, it gets thru the webstart dialogs to the welcome wizard, display a progress bar which get to 25% and then the wizard disapears, I click 'send kiosk to background', but the wizard has vanished, maybe it went of the visible screen area?
What i have achived tho is to stripe the disk for raid-1 and re-install the service partition, and the partial webstart intall as above.
My problem however is that it wont boot up, giving message
'no bootable partition'. The webstart doco says it creates the required fdisk partitions etc
There is a note in the 'solaris 9 install guide' that says ...
'if you restored the service partition before starting the install, you might not be able to upgrade to the Sun OE' .
Thanks for that Sun. Any ideas guys, perhaps its only a warning message.

i was trying to implemet and addition of two numbers in Verilog code . I used NGC netlist file in the external files of the HDL Interface node. While checking for the syntax error, i getting the error.
i am attaching the program and also the screen shot of the error.

  • Scanning conflict   Acrobat 9 pro   "Color Format Selected Not Supported"

I have had several conflicts with Adobe Acrobat 9 and my HP C5180 printer/scanner/copier.   I have downloaded new drivers from HP.   When I try to create  a PDF from the scanner,  I get this conflict warning:   "Color Format Selected Not supported".    So, I change the color format selections in both HP and Acrobat and I still get the warning.    I must admit I haven't tried the black and white color format.  But I want to scan simple color images.  No luck.
Has anyone else had such a problem?

This may have nothing to do with your problem, but -- at least with Acrobat 8, there is a 100MB limit to the scanned image. Are you trying to scan something larger than that?

  • DVCPRO HD 59.94 to offline RT - multiclip doesn't play back in Viewer

    Hello,
I have 3 streams of DVCPRO HD multiclip'd in a DVCPRO HD timeline (59.94, 960 x 720). When I use media manager to offline it, I get a warning about the framerate being retained (59.94) instead of offlining it to 29.97
Offline media results in 59.94 framerate and the the offline timeline requires no render. However, FCP will not play back the clips in realtime in the Viewer. I can cut on the fly but even the Canvas doesn't update with the most recent "cut-to" angle. For instance, playing down timeline in realtime with angle 1...cut video to angle 2...the cut is registered but the Canvas still shows angle 1 footage until playhead is stopped.
A few notes...Only one of the original streams is native DVCPRO HD. The other two streams are HDV 1 and HDV 2 transcoded to DVCPRO HD using Compressor.
    OS 10.4.11
    FCP 6.0.2
    QT 7.4.1
1st gen Intel iMac 17" 1.83ghz core duo 2GB RaM
    Thanks!

Nevermind, got it! Don't ask though, nothing "technical" fixed it.
After doing the media manager offline, a new project opened with 2 of the clips being offline. I was warned during the offline process that the 2 clips couldn't be offlined and presented with options to skip, retry, and abort. I skipped both times and the new media files remained intact on the hard drive. However, both of them had funky numbers/letters at the end of the name (as if to say the original clip names were too long, they were appended part-way through each file name with, for example, "#5692")
Anyway, I reconnected the offline media to the clips and, voila, the offline timeline now plays back the multiclip in realtime both Viewer and Canvas, hooray!

  • DVCPRO HD 3 stream multiclip - computer too slow, offline edit? How?

Of all my woes trying to get this project edited, I finally figured out solutions for a few problems I was having (preventing me from starting the edit). Now, let's assume I have everything ready...
I have 3 angles, all DVCPRO HD. When I multiclip and place in timeline, keep getting dropped frames on playback.
I've tried reducing RT as low as quarter framerate and low playback quality but I still get mixed results.
Is there a way I can do an offline edit using multiclips then online the footage once my cuts are complete? How?
    Thanks!
    Oh duh - 17" Intel iMac (1st gen of Intels) 1.83Ghz, 2GB RAM, 1TB GRAID2, FCP 6.0.2

    FANTASTIC.
    Great, quick article.
    Let's give it a try...
    AAHHHH! It works! Ha!
Ok (and I know you read a thousand threads every day), as noted in another post of mine, I have the nightmare of transcoding other footage taken from different cameras (at different resolutions and different compression [both hdv, one is 720p ftg, other is 1080i])
The DVCPRO HD is native 59.94
When I recompress for offline, I get the warning dialog about framerate of preset to be used mismatching footage I've selected. The new project/sequence will be set to OfflineRT HD (Photo JPEG) 29.97 The media I'm about to recompress, again, is 59.94 The offline clips retain the 59.94 framerate.
Edit into sequence, prompt to change sequence settings to match clip settings. I edited the clip and 3 stream (!!) multiclip into the offline sequence with the sequence set to 29.97 or 59.94 I see no noticeable difference in the look of the footage. I don't have an external monitor to test with but I imagine it wouldn't make a difference.
So what's my point? Oh, uhh, yeah. So the other two "footages"...Before I begin the edit, what should they be transcoded to? My guess:
-Transcode HDV footage to DVCPRO HD 720p60 in Compressor
    -Results in 59.94
-Put the entire "online" media into master project
-Offline all footage for realtime project
    -Edit offline in 59.94 timeline
-Did I mention the purpose of transcoding to match DVCPRO HD is so I can multiclip?
    -Complete edit in offline project
    -Online it.
    A few notes...
-I don't have HDV to test w...oops, wait, I do. And, how convenient, it's 1080i! Nonetheless, I just did the Compress routine with some SD footage, looked like hairy sh...you know. But hey, that's what you'd expect. Mainly, you can see atrocious field separation especially on motion. Either way...
Just converted the 1080i ftg to DVCPRO HD and from master to transcode, they look very similar. There is a SLIGHT blur on the transcoded ftg but it will suffice (it'll have to)
-I offlined the transcoded 1080i-720p, looks like garbage but who cares? It's visible and plays back RT! Errr...when it's on its own in the timeline. Multiclip'd this ftg with 2 other DVCPRO HD offlined and, once in timeline, multiclip isn't playing back at all. Canvas shows the video, viewer doesn't. Each time playhead is stopped, viewer updates with current frames of each multiclip element. Yes, sync is set to open.
Also, canvas doesn't update when cut to alternate angle, continues showing the previous footage AND IT DOES register the cuts but canvas doesn't update. UGH.
-Restarting FCP. That didn't do it. The RT popup also doesn't give an option for multiclip playback. So...ahhh sugar. Found it.
-The sequence needed to be set to 29.97, not 59.94
-Now the question is, how will this affect the online? What will I online back to? Huuuuuhhhhh.....
Well, I did it anyway and set it all back how it was, the sequence framerate is 29.97 - Nothing looks off or weird after a render. HOWEVER...
-Does this mean I am doing it right?? Should the online be 59.94?
OK, I think I've babbled enough. Very close!!! Much closer than before, very helpful, thank you!

  • Reference conflict project

LV2009: if I try to use a linera algebra function in a new VI in a new project, it produces a huge amount of dependencies to totally remote VIs in several other llbs and lvlibs. I guess these are linked to some of the other more complex VIs in NI_AALBase.lvlib and therefore appear as dependencies, even if I am not actually using them.
It seems that at a certain point of time I have messed up one of these now unused VIs by saving it with a reference to a copy of a linear algebra VI in an application distribution that I generated once.
As a consequence, every time I open any of my VIs that contain whatsoever linear algebra VIs, a conflict warning pops up, showing me a certain conflicting linear algebar VI in the path of my former distribution (which is not existing any more). The conflict appears also transiently in the project tree and vanishes if I close the warning message. After that, everything is fine.
As the conflicting item is removed from the project tree immediately, I cannot locate where the problem is.
Any ideas how I could find the damaged VI that refers to the "wrong" linear algebra function ?
    Thanks,
    Dirk
