Sounds much like some SQL Server error. Not sure if here you will get the best help. May be posting to some SQL Server forum is a better idea.

  • Is the transaction log is changed when i execute select statemetns

    hello
    i want to ask about updateing the transaction log: is it modified when a select statement is executed
    is it changed when update,delete or insert statements are executed ?

    In general SELECT statement don't write redo but if you use SELECT with FOR UPDATE clause, then redo is generated and written to redo logs or in special cases like delayed block cleanout. INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE write redo, yes.
    Note that Oracle right name to use is redo log and not transaction log which a Sybase/MS SQL Server concept.

  • Changing location of Transaction Log

    Hi,
    can any body confirm that changing the Transaction Log file at database level will not create problems in SAP system.
    i want to change the TL file location any other option?

    Hello,
    there will be no problems when you move the file to a different location, as the filelocation is transparent for SAP. You should choose a own drive for the TL with a low RAID level (Level 1). On a SAN the drives should be write optimized for the TL.

    you have to increase the sum of the logs in order to enlarge the database log...plz do not forget that the log must fit the underlying file system, eg. /db2/<SID>/dir_log..so you might have to increase this as well using SMITTY...
    <b>(DB6) [IBM][CLI Driver][DB2/AIX64] SQL0964C  The transaction log for the database is full.  SQLSTATE=57011</b>
    <i>[root] > su - db2<sid></i>
    <i>1> db2 get db cfg for <SID> | grep -i logfilsiz</i>

    <i>2> db2 get db cfg for <SID> | grep -i logprimary</i>
    Number of primary log files                (LOGPRIMARY) = 20
    <i>3> db2 get db cfg for <SID> | grep -i logsecond</i>
    Number of secondary log files               (LOGSECOND) = 40
    so we have log file of max. 16.380 * 4.096 * 60 = 4.025.548.800 bytes (about 4 gb)...this needs to be increased by increasing either LOGPRIMARY and/or LOGSECONDARY...(assuming that your logfile size is 16kb...query db2 for your size!)

  • The transaction log for database 'Test_db' is full due to 'LOG_BACKUP'

    My dear All,
    Came up with another issue:
    App team is pushing the data from one Prod1 server 'test_1db' to another Prod2 server 'User_db' through a job, here while pushing the data after some duration job is failing and throwing the following error
    'Error: 9002, Severity: 17, State: 2.'The transaction log for database 'User_db' is full due to 'LOG_BACKUP'''.
    On Prod2 server 'User_db' log is having enough space 400gb on drive and growth is 250mb. I really confused that why job is failing as there is lot of space available. Kindly guide me to troubleshoot the issue as this issue is occuring from more than
    1 week. Kindly refer the screenshot for the same.
    Environment: SQL Server 2012 with sp1 Ent-edition. and log backup duration is every 15 mints and there is no High availability between the servers.
    Note: Changing to simple recovery model may resolve but App team is required to run in Full recovery model as they need of log backups.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nagesh
    Nagesh

    Dear V,
    Thanks for the susggestions.
    I have followed some steps to resolve the issue, as of now my jobs are working without issue.
    Steps:
    Generating log backup for every 5 minutes
    Increased the growth 500mb to unrestricted.
    Once whole job completed we are shrinking the log file.

  • Performance problem with transaction log

    We are having some performance problem in SAP – BW 3.5 system running on MS – SQL server 2000.The box is sized 63,574 MB. The transaction logs gets filled up after loading data in to a transactional cube or after doing selective deletion. The size of the transaction log is 7,587MB currently.
    Basis team feels that when performing either loading or selective deletion, SQL server views it as a single transaction and doesn't commit until every record is written. And so as a result, transaction logs fills up ultimately bringing the system down.
    The system log shows a DBIF error during the transaction log fill up as follows:
    Database error 9002 at COM
    > [9002] the log file for database 'BWP' is full. Back up the
    > Transaction log for the database to free up some log space.
    Function COMMIT on connection R/3 failed
    Perform rollback
    Can we make changes to Database to make commit action frequently? Is there any parameters we could change to reduce the packet size? Is there some setting to be changed in SQL server?
    Any Help will be appreciated.

    if you have disk space avialable you can allocate more space to the transaction log.

  • What is stored in a transaction log file?

    What does the transaction log file store? Is it the blocks of transactions to be executed, is it the snapshot of records before beginning the
    execution of a transaction or is it just the statements found in a transaction block? Please advice.
    mayooran99

    yes, it will store all the values before and after that were modified. you,first, have to understand the need for transaction log, then, it will start to become apparent, what is stored in the transaction log
    before the transaction can be committed, sql server will make sure that all the information is hardened on the transaction log,so if a crash happens, it can still recover\restore the data.
    when you update some data - the data is feteched into memory and updated- transaction log makes note of it(before and after values etc).see, at this point, the changes were done but not physically present in the data page, they present only in the memory.
    so, if crash happens(before a check piont\lazy writer could be issued), you will that data...this where transaction log comes handy, because all this information is stored in physical file of transaction log. so, when your server comes back on, if the transaction
    is committed, the transaction log will roll forward this iinformation
    when a checkpoint\lazy writer happens, in simple recovery, the transaction log for that txn is cleared out, if there are no other older active txns.
    in full recovery you will take log backups, to clear that txn from the transaction log.
    in transaction log data generally is faster because 1. it is written sequentialyl...it will track the data pageno, lsn and other details that were modified and makes a note of it.
    similar to data cache, there is also transaction log cache, that makes this process faster.. all transactions before being committed, it will wait to make sure everything related to the txn is written to the transaction log on disk.
    i advice you to pick up - kalen delaney, sql internals book and read - recovery an logging chapter..for more and better understanding...
    Hope it Helps!!

  • Why is the transaction log file not truncated though its simple recovery model?

    My database is simple recovery model and when I view the free space in log file it shows 99%. Why doesn't my log file truncate the committed
    data automatically to free space in ldf file? When I shrink it does shrink. Please advice.
    mayooran99

    My database is simple recovery model and when I view the free space in log file it shows 99%. Why doesn't my log file truncate the committed
    data automatically to free space in ldf file? When I shrink it does shrink. Please advice.
    mayooran99
    If log records were never deleted(truncated) from the transaction log it wont show as 99% free.Simple recoveyr model
    Log truncation automatically frees space in the logical log for reuse by the transaction log and thats what you are seeing. Truncation wont change file size. It more like
    log clearing, marking
    parts of the log free for reuse.
    As you said "When I shrink it does shrink" I dont see any issues here. Log truncation and shrink file is 2 different things.

  • How to delete Transaction Logs in SQL database

    Hi,
    Can any one explain me the process how to delete the transcation logs in SQL database.
    Thanks
    Sunil

    Sunil,
    Yes you can take online backup in MS SQL server.
    The transaction log files contain information about all changes made to the database. The log files are necessary components of the database and may never be deleted. Why you want to delete it?
    I am taking any backup, do i need to turn off the SAP server that is running at the moment or can i take it online
    There are three main types of SQL Server Backup: Full Database Backup, Differential Database Backup and Transaction Log Backup. All these backups can be made when the database is online and do not require you to stop the SAP system.

  • Transaction Logs in SQL Server

    Hi, the BW system has the following properties:
    BW 3.1C Patch 14
    BASIS/ABA 6.20 Patch 38
    BI_CONT 310 Patch 2
    PI_BASIS Patch 2004_1_620
    Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
    SQL Server 2000 SP3 version 8.00.760
    Database used space: 52 GB
    Database free space: 8.9 GB
    Transaction log space: 8 GB
    I am having the following problem.  The SQL transaction logs on the SQL Server fill up very rapidly while aggregates are rolling up.  Sometimes taking up to 16-20 GB of transaction log space in the SQL Server.  We only have 8 GB of space available for the transaction logs.  When the aggregates are not rolling up, the logs do not fill up at all.  I have tried changing the logs to Simple logging, but all that does is delay the fill, and at that point you cannot backup simple logs to free up DB space.
    What is it about aggregates that fills up the transaction log?  Anybody know a solution to this without adding disk space to the transaction log disk?
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    the log backup on simple mode is not necessary. The full database after switching back to full is a must.
    Please keep in mind, that even running on simple mode the log can be filled up, as all transactions are still written to the log. Commited transaction then can truncated from the log. But when you run a hugh transaction like a client copy, the log might grow as well. The log will be freed once the transaction commits or rolls back. And no, you can't split a client copy in several transactions.
    Best regards

  • Content Engine transaction logs -- monitoring and analysis

    At our remote sites there's a local Cisco CE511 to ease our WAN bandwidth. I have been tasked to find a method to gather CE usage for trending and troubleshooting.
    From my search on the internet I decided to go with the Webalizer application. I setup the CEs to export their transaction logs every hour to my FTP server. After a test of Webalizer on a log file, it produced a nice HTML report for that hour.
    I would like to discuss with anyone on bringing this up to a new level. I would like webalizer to run as a cron job, but the log file names changes every hour. So that's a hurdle I need to figure out. Also keeping track of user web hits is important. I would like to make sure my reports are accurate in reporting what IP address is the top talker.
    I hope this will start a productive exchange of ideas. Thanks.

    Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an interoperable standards-based protocol that allows for external monitoring of the Content Engine through an SNMP agent.
    An SNMP-managed network consists of three primary components: managed devices, agents, and management systems. A managed device is a network node that contains an SNMP agent and resides on a managed network. Managed devices collect and store management information and use SNMP to make this information available to management systems that use SNMP. Managed devices include routers, access servers, switches, bridges, hubs, computer hosts, and printers.
    An SNMP agent is a software module that resides in a managed device. An agent has local knowledge of management information and translates that information into a form compatible with SNMP. The SNMP agent gathers data from the Management Information Base (MIB), which is the repository for information about device parameters and network data. The agent can also send traps, or notification of certain events, to the manager.

  • Log Reader Agent is not able to read Transaction Log of Publisher database.

    Hi,
    There is no restore or change in recovery model or detach-attach action performed on my production database but still I am seeing below error message from Log Reader Agent-
    Error messages:
    The process could not execute 'sp_repldone/sp_replcounters' on 'ProdInstance'. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL20011)
    Get help:
    An error occurred while processing the log for database 'MyDatabase'.  If possible, restore from backup. If a backup is not available, it might be necessary to rebuild the log. (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 9004)
    The process could not set the last distributed transaction. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL22017)
    Get help: The process could not execute 'sp_repldone/sp_replcounters' on 'ProdInstance'. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL22037)
    Note- CheckDB on production and distribution database executed successfully. Also, I need subscriber to be a true copy of publisher so I think sp_replrestart is not an option for me.
    My question is how to resolve this issue? I am thinking that reinitialization should resolve the problem but what if this is not going to resolve? Do I need to reconfigure the transaction replication? Please sugegst.

    Hi,
    Please check out this link on how to resolve “The process could not execute 'sp_repldone/sp_replcounters'” error.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/repltalk/archive/2010/02/19/the-process-could-not-execute-sp-repldone-sp-replcounters.aspx
    The possible cause could be:
    1.The last LSN in Transaction Log is less than what the LSN Log Reader is trying to find. An old backup may have been restored on top of Published Database. After the restore, the new Transaction Log doesn't contain the data now distributor & subscriber(s)
    have.
    2.Database corruption.
    Since you have not restored the published database, I suggest you run
    DBCC CHECKDB to confirm the consistency of the database. Refer to the How to fix in the above link.
    Thanks.

  • JTA Transaction log circular collision

    Greetings:
              Just thought I'd share some knowledge concerning a recent JTA-related
              issue within WebLogic Server 6.1.2.0:
              On our Production cluster, we recently ran into the following critical
              level problem:
              <Jan 10, 2003 6:00:14 PM EST> <Critical> <JTA> <Transaction log
              circular collision, file number 176>
              After numerous discussions with BEA Support, it appears to be a (rare)
              race condition within the tlog file. It was also noted by BEA during
              their testing of WebLogic 7.0.
              Some additional research lead to an MBean attribute under *WebLogic
              Server 7.0* entitled, "CheckpointIntervalSeconds". The documentation
              states:
              ~~~~
              Interval at which the transaction manager creates a new transaction
              log file and checks all old transaction log files to see if they are
              ready to be deleted. Default is 300 seconds (5 minutes); minimum is 10
              seconds; maximum is 1800 seconds (30 minutes).
              Default value = 300
              Minimum = 10
              Maximum = 1800
              Configurable = Yes
              Dynamic = Yes
              MBean class = weblogic.management.configuration.JTAMBean
              MBean attribute = CheckpointIntervalSeconds
              ~~~~
              After searching for a equivalent setting under WebLogic Server
              6.1.2.0, nothing was found and a custom (unsupported) patch was
              created to change this hardcoded setting under 6.1:
              from
              ... CHECKPOINT_THRESHOLD_MILLIS = 5 * 60 * 1000;
              to
              ... CHECKPOINT_THRESHOLD_MILLIS = 10 * 60 * 1000;
              within com.bea.weblogic.transaction.internal.ServerTransactionManagerImpl.
              If you'd like additional details, feel free to contact me via e-mail

              helps!

    Hi 783703,
    As Sridhar suggested for your problem you have to set transaction-time out in j2ee/home/config/transaction-manager.xml.
    If you use Idempotent as false for your partnerlinks, BPEL PM will store the status till that invoke(Proof that this invoke gets executed).
    So better to go for increasing the time instead of going for idempotent as it has some side effects.
    And coming to dehydration ....Ideally performance will be more if there are no much dehydration poitns in our process. But for some scenarios it is better to have dehydration(ex: we can know the status of the process...etc)
    Dehydration store will not get cleared after completion of the process. Here dehydration means ....it will store these dtails in tables(like Cube_instance,cube_scope...etc).

  • SQL0964C  The transaction log for the database is full

    Hi,
    i am planning to do QAS refresh from PRD system using Client export\import method. i have done export in PRD and the same has been moved to QAS then started imported.
    DB Size:160gb
    DB:DB2 9.7
    os: windows 2008.
    I facing SQL0964C  The transaction log for the database is full issue while client import and regarding this i have raised incident to SAP then they replied to increase some parameter like(LOGPRIMARY,LOGSECOND,LOGFILSIZ) temporarily and revert them back after the import. Based on that i have increased from as below mentioned calculation.
    the filesystem size of /db2/<SID>/log_dir should be greater than LOGFILSIZ*4*(Sum of LOGPRIMARY+LOGSECONDARY) KB
    From:
    Log file size (4KB)                         (LOGFILSIZ) = 60000
    Number of primary log files                (LOGPRIMARY) = 50
    Number of secondary log files               (LOGSECOND) = 100

    Number of primary log files                (LOGPRIMARY) = 60
    Number of secondary log files               (LOGSECOND) = 120

    Hi Babu,
    I believe you should have taken a restart of your system if log primary are changed.  If so, then increase log primary to 120 and secondary to 80 provide size and space are enough.

  • Transaction logs off on  MSSQL Server-2008

    Hi,
      I want to off the transaction logs in mssql server-2008 like archive mode off in oracle,auto over write on in maxdb database.
    Thanku

    You cannot stop.!
    Please read sql Architecture.
    The transaction log of the SAP database records all changes made to the database. It may never be deleted and must be backed up separately. Transaction log backups save the log files. They are mandatory when you use the Full or Bulk-Logged Recovery Model since they are needed.
