JTA Transaction log circular collision

Greetings:
          Just thought I'd share some knowledge concerning a recent JTA-related
          issue within WebLogic Server 6.1.2.0:
          On our Production cluster, we recently ran into the following critical
          level problem:
          <Jan 10, 2003 6:00:14 PM EST> <Critical> <JTA> <Transaction log
          circular collision, file number 176>
          After numerous discussions with BEA Support, it appears to be a (rare)
          race condition within the tlog file. It was also noted by BEA during
          their testing of WebLogic 7.0.
          Some additional research lead to an MBean attribute under *WebLogic
          Server 7.0* entitled, "CheckpointIntervalSeconds". The documentation
          states:
          ~~~~
          Interval at which the transaction manager creates a new transaction
          log file and checks all old transaction log files to see if they are
          ready to be deleted. Default is 300 seconds (5 minutes); minimum is 10
          seconds; maximum is 1800 seconds (30 minutes).
          Default value = 300
          Minimum = 10
          Maximum = 1800
          Configurable = Yes
          Dynamic = Yes
          MBean class = weblogic.management.configuration.JTAMBean
          MBean attribute = CheckpointIntervalSeconds
          ~~~~
          After searching for a equivalent setting under WebLogic Server
          6.1.2.0, nothing was found and a custom (unsupported) patch was
          created to change this hardcoded setting under 6.1:
          from
          ... CHECKPOINT_THRESHOLD_MILLIS = 5 * 60 * 1000;
          to
          ... CHECKPOINT_THRESHOLD_MILLIS = 10 * 60 * 1000;
          within com.bea.weblogic.transaction.internal.ServerTransactionManagerImpl.
          If you'd like additional details, feel free to contact me via e-mail
          <[email protected]> or by phone +1.404.327.7238. Hope this
          helps!

Hi 783703,
As Sridhar suggested for your problem you have to set transaction-time out in j2ee/home/config/transaction-manager.xml.
If you use Idempotent as false for your partnerlinks, BPEL PM will store the status till that invoke(Proof that this invoke gets executed).
So better to go for increasing the time instead of going for idempotent as it has some side effects.
And coming to dehydration ....Ideally performance will be more if there are no much dehydration poitns in our process. But for some scenarios it is better to have dehydration(ex: we can know the status of the process...etc)
Dehydration store will not get cleared after completion of the process. Here dehydration means ....it will store these dtails in tables(like Cube_instance,cube_scope...etc).

    I'm having a weird case. I created 3 entity bean. In my R/3 will call this JCO.Function to do the insert to database. But out of 3 entity bean, only 1 entity bean got error where it unable to insert to database and have this error in the log.
    The case is quite weird where i created the same entity but only 1 entity is not working as expected. Wondering what cause this problem.
    Thanks.

    Hi Stefan and Everyone,
    I have solved my problem. Just want to let everyone know if u have to install the SP's for WEB AS 6.30/6.40.
    You start from the installation from CD 6.30/6.40. Everything will be working at this point. You can login to Visual Admin, Config tool and SDM.
    Before you apply any SP's, do the following:
    a) Create an emergency user with the Administrator rights: Ref OSS Note:669848
    Try to follow this route for SP's:
    From CD 6.30/6.40 -> SP04 -> SP07
    Apply SP04 first before applying SP07 (Recommended Approach).
    Refer the installation guide: SAP Web AS Support Package Guide 630SP2 to 640SP4.
    Use JDK1.4.2_05 to install SP04. You must reference the following OSS Notes and apply to your system accordingly, this is the key to an error free installation:
    a) OSS Note: 697535
    b) OSS Note: 709140
    c) OSS Note: 716604
    d) OSS Note: 706378
    You have to be really careful with SP04 installation, because it changes the version from 6.30 -> 6.40.
    Once you are able to install SP04 without any problems, you can directly apply SP07 or the highest 6.40 SP.
    Kind Regards,
    Buddha.

  • Getting "JTA transaction is not present" error while updating db table.

    Hi All,
    In one of my BPEL process, In a loop, I am updating value of database column Flag from 0 to 1. It was working fine in dev environment, but failed in Prod with below errors, Can Any one suggest on this.

    I can envisage this happening only in a case where the update is taking a longer time than the value of JTA transaction timeout.
    Is this happening for all BPEL instances or some of them get thru succesfully ?
    Are you EVER updating that particular row of your table ( before/after) ?

  • Doubts on nonxa oracle datasources in Weblogic JTA transaction

    I am doing some studying on XA transaction handling in weblogic 10.3.6. I read a lot materials on web saying that can't enlist more than 1 non xa datasources inside one single XA transaction, so I am doing a simple test: trying to update one record in one oracle database, and inserting one record in another.
    The test code is below:
    @Stateless(mappedName = "nativeQueryTest")
    @TransactionManagement(TransactionManagementType.CONTAINER)
    @TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRED)
    public class DaoEjb implements .... {
         @PersistenceContext(unitName="nonxa.unit")
         private EntityManager nonXAPC;
         @PersistenceContext(unitName="another.nonxa.unit")
         private EntityManager anotherNonXAPC;
         @Override
         public void doUpdateWithNonXaDss() {
              Employee l_entity = nonXAPC.find(Employee.class, "tom");
              l_entity.setAge(new Random().nextInt());
              Department l_dep = new Department();
              l_dep.setName("dept" + new Random().nextInt());
              l_dep.setEmployeeNum(new Random().nextInt());
              anotherNonXAPC.persist(l_dep);
    The persistence unit definitions are:
         <persistence-unit name="nonxa.unit" transaction-type="JTA">
              <provider>org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider</provider>
              <jta-data-source>nonxa.ds</jta-data-source>

              </properties>
         </persistence-unit>
         <persistence-unit name="another.nonxa.unit" transaction-type="JTA">

         </persistence-unit>
    For the two data sources, they are pointed to two different oracle databases on two different physical servers. I use "oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver" as the drivers, and also make sure that "Support Global Transaction" options un-selected.
    I used a simple client to invoke the EJB, and saw the method completes without any error: the first record is updated and second record is inserted! Therefore I am really confused:
    1) is the JTA transaction XA or not in my small EJB?
    2) if it's XA, why can I use two non-XA datasources inside this XA transaction?

    Why do you think this should fail? Looks to me like you have two isolated transactions going on that have no relation to each other.

  • Weblogic 7 SP5 SQL Exceptions follow a JTA transaction timeout

    I have a problem in Weblogic 7 SP5 that was not happening in SP2. I'm using the
    Weblogic jDriver (weblogic.jdbc.mssqlserver4.Driver)
    I have a transaction that times out due to JTA transaction timeout, and then gets
    marked for rollback. For several minutes after the timeout, I get many SQL Exceptions
    with bogus messages like "invalid column name" when the column name is, in fact,
    correct.
    Then the weblogic log file shows "Exception during rollback of transaction" (javax.transaction.SystemException:
    Heuristic hazard). Next, the connection is tested on reserve, this test fails,
    and the connection is refreshed. As soon as the connection is refreshed, I stop
    getting SQL exceptions and everything starts working correctly again.
    It seems like the transaction timeout is making the connection go bad, and somehow
    other requests are using this bad connection before the transaction finishes rolling
    back. What could the problem be? Some excerpts from my app log and weblogic log
    are below.

    Practically, much depends on which jDriver you're using. In decreasing order

  • JTA transaction is aborting due to an user rollback fault

    Hi,
    While testing the ReceiptEBS on EM, we are getting given error, few minutes before EBS was working fine.

    Hi,
    This seems to be a timeout error during JTA transaction. Some of my suggestions are
    1. Put a timeout value in the partner link properties.
    2. Set the timeout parameter for JTA under Domain configuration in console.

  • Very high transaction log file growth

    Hello
    Running Exchange 2010 sp2 in a two node DAG configuration.  Just recently i have noticed a very high transaction log file growth for one database. The transaction logs are growing so quickly that i have had to turn on circular logging in order to prevent
    the log lun from filling up and causing the database to dismount. I have tried several things to try find out what is causing this issue. At first i thought this could be happening because of virus, an Active Sync user, a users outlook client, or our salesforce
    integration, howerver when i used exmon, i could not see any unusual high user activity, also when i looked at the itemcount for all mailboxes in the particular database that is experiencing the high transaction log file growth, i could not see any mailboxes
    with unusual high item count, below is the command i ran to determine this, i ran this command sever times. I also looked at the message tracking log files, and again could see no indication of a message loop or unusual high message traffic for a
    particlar day. I also followed this guide hopping that it would allow me to see inside the transaction log files, but it didnt produce anything that would help me understand the cause of this issue. When i ran the below tool againts the transaction log files,
    i saw DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD, or OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, or HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
    I am starting to run out of ideas on how to figure out what is causing the log file build up. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    If you have users with iPhones or Smart Phones using ActiveSync then one of the quickest ways to see if this is the issue is to have users shot those phones off to see if the problem is resolved.  If it is one or more iPhones then perhaps look at
    what IOS they are on and get them to update to the latest version or adjust the ActiveSync connection timeout.  NOTE: There was an issue where iPhones caused runaway transactions logs and I believe it was resolved with IOS 4.0.1
    There was also a problem with the MS CRM client awhile back so if you are using that check out this link.
    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/crm/thread/6fba6c7f-c514-4e4e-8a2d-7e754b647014
    I would also deploy some tracking methods to see if you can hone in on the culprits, i.e. If you want to see if the problem is coming from an internal Device/Machine you can use one of the following

    Also check out ExMon since you can use it to confirm which mailbox is unusually active , and then take the appropriate action.

  • JTA transaction is not present or the transaction is not in active state

    Hi,
    I am trying to execute an asynchronous bpel process. the bpel process has 5 OSB calls and is taking approximately 100 seconds for completion. The OSB calls in the BPEL are taking 90 seconds for completion. In the end of the BPEL process, after completion I get the following error:
    [2010/07/22 01:56:44] BPEL process instance "1220007" completed
    [2010/07/22 01:56:44] There is a system exception while performing the BPEL instance, the reason is "JTA transaction is not present or the transaction is not in active state. The current JTA transaction is not present or it is not in active state when processing activity or instance "1,220,007". The reason is The execution of this instance "1220007" for process "BPELProcess1" is supposed to be in a jta transaction, but the transaction is not present or in active state, please turn on the application server transaction debug logs to get more information.. Please consult your administrator regarding this error. ". Please check the error log file for more infromation. Please try to use bpel fault handlers to catch the faults in your bpel process. If this is a system exception, please report this to your system administrator. Administrator could perform manual recovery of the instance from last non-idempotent activity or dehydration point.
    We do not want to increase the transaction-timeout properties in the server in the Transaction-manager.xml or in the orion-ejb-jar.xml since we have other projects with synchronous processes running in the same server.
    Can anybody please suggest a workaround to overcome this issue apart from increasing the transaction-timeout?

    Hi 783703,
    As Sridhar suggested for your problem you have to set transaction-time out in j2ee/home/config/transaction-manager.xml.

  • Error handling via CatchAll and JTA transaction error.

    Hi
    soa 10.1.3.5.0
    I have created a test BPEL process where i am updating already completed Human task. I know it's wrong and i am doing it purposely to test error handling mechanism.
    In the same BPEL I added a Catch all handler hoping that this will catch the error and will let me complete the process.
    However BPEL is failing in the Catch All scope with lovely error: JTA transaction is not present or the transaction is not in active state.
    Does anybody know how and why humantask update activity suddenly changes jta transaction state? Any thoughts of how i can catch the error in the situation i described and process it gracefully?
    Thanks for your help!

    If you look at the error, it suggests that the action you are performing is invalid.That is you cannot update human task which has been already completed. Thats why you are getting that "JTA transaction not active error". Since your human task has already been completed, it is not able to update it again.

  • Ce7305-5.3.3: number of transaction log archives

    Could anybody tell me how many archives are kept for transaction logs on a ce7305-5.3.3, and how can we control the number of them?
    Thanks in advance.
    A.T Doan

    Hi Alex,
    Actually circular logging/backup was not a solution, I was just explaining that there is an option like that on server but it is not recommended hence not useful in our case :)
    - I am not a developer but AFAIK, WebDAV search query shouldn't generate transaction log because it just searches the mailboxes and gives the result in HTTP format and doesn't produce any Exchange transaction.
    - I wouldn't open transaction logs since it is being used by Exchange which may generate errors and may corrupt Exchange database sometime too. However it is not readable, as you observed, other than Exchange Information Store service (store.exe).
    - You can post this query in development forum to get better idea on this, if any other programmer observed similar symptom while using WebDAV contact search query in Exchange 2007 or can validate your query.
    Microsoft TechNet > Forums Home > Exchange Server > Development
    Well, I just saw that you are using Exchange 2007, in that case why don't you use Exchange Web Service which is better and improved method to access/query mailboxes where as WebDAV is also de-emphasized in Exchange 2007 and might be disappeared in next version of Exchange. • Transaction logs caused by iPhone User is killing the space

    User's iphone 5S is killing the transaction logs on the Exchange server.  Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?  User does receive a lot of mail by the way, has an enormous inbox (well over 3.5GB).  I'm sure there are also lots of Calendar
    items.
    What to do and how to stop the phone from going into an endless loop cycle?  The only temporary relief I have is to either disable it or enforce a manual fetch.  Another solution I thought of is to put the user into his own database and turn on
    circular logging

    Oh boy.. there has been so many issue . look like you are still on Sp1 or SP2. I'd strongly recommend you to upgrade it to SP3. Is it a single server?
    You will need to plan the downtime for it..

  • Exchange 2007 transaction log issue

    Hi All,
    One of my clients if having an Issue with their exchange 2007 server, running multiple exchange dbs for different sections of their business.
    1 of the 4 dbs (the smallest one) is having drop out issues, the exchange server has dismounted the db each night this week when the backup Exec 2010 running it fails with code E000032D. Which according to Symantec literature means as bad transaction
    log.
    upon looking at the files in the log folder i noticed there are a number of logs that have been duplicated and have a .delete file type.
    Can anyone give me any info on how to fix this???
    I have tried running an NTback in the hope that a more simple backup program might be more forgiving with the damaged logs.
    When this didn't work (failed to backup of stay mounted last night) I have tried to use circular logging to purge the logs today followed by another NTbackup of the exchange store in question.
    The logs folder is still showing the .delete version of the log and I guessing we are nort going to get a successful backup tonight.
    The issue arose at the end of last week when a disk failed due to overheating when the server rooms AC went out for the weekend.
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Joseph Atie

    Hi Joseph,
    From your description, I recommend you follow the steps below for troubleshooting:
    1. Please move the transaction log files to a safe directory of a different store at first.
    2. Mount this store and start the backup.
    What's more, circular logging is not recommended. Here is a blog for your reference.

  • Corrupted message causing a huge number of transaction logs

    Hello All
    We have a SBS 2011 client and one user is having an issue with a single message being unable to synchronize with the server.
    This message attempts to get synchronized with the server every minute but fails and gets listed on the Sync issues folder as per the below listed message.
    8:19:57 Error synchronizing message 'Palm Beach - Updated Lease Plan'

    8:19:57 Moved a message that failed synchronization to 'Local Failures'. Message subject -> 'Palm Beach - Updated Lease Plan'. You can view this message in your offline folder file only.
    There were over 2 GB of the same message on the local failure folder so I have deleted all of those messages and currently there is no similar message on the local failure folder but the sync issues folder still reports a sync failure.
    Because of this reason transaction logs getting generated in massive numbers so I had to enable circular logging to make sure disk space is not fully consumed by transaction logs.
    I have search everywhere on this user’s mailbox but is unable to locate this message in question. Also this is not on the message queue on the exchange server as well.
    How can I locate this message and remove it?
    Thanks,
    Dhanushka

    Hi Dhanushka,
    Sorry for my interrupting.
    Would you please let me confirm whether the sync issue persists when user log on OWA?
    Please refer to the following similar thread and check if can help you.

  • Exchange 2010 - Load balancing transaction logs in a DAG

    I have a single Exchange 2010 DAG.  Within the DAG, I have two mailbox servers.  I have 2 DB's mounted on server A, and 3 DB's mounted on server B.
    The size and quantity of transaction logs on server A always seem to be larger.  It might be the nature of the mailboxes on server A, but I was wondering if there is a tool or script to verify best practices for how the transaction logs should be configured.
    Thanks

    So one of the DBs is not replicated? Im not sure what you mean by "how the transaction logs should be configured".
    You only real choices are disk location, whether you want to lag a copy or if you want to enable circular logging. Things that with 2 mailbox servers you wouldn't want do other than define the disk location. Otherwise, there isn't much to configure as far
    as the logging.

  • WebDAV Query generates a high number of transaction log files

    Hi all,
    I have a program that launch WebDAV queries to search for contacts on an Exchange 2007 server. The number of contacts returned for each user's mailbox is quite high (about 4500).
    I've noticed that each time the query is launched, about 15 transaction log files are generated on the Exchange server (each of them 1Mb). If I ask only for 2 properties on the contacts, this number is reduced to about 8.
    This is a problem since our program is supposed to launch often (about every 3/5min) as It will synchronize Exchange mailboxes with a SQL Server DB. The result is that the logs increase very quickly on the server side, even if there are not so many updates.
    Any idea why so many transaction logs are generated when doing a WebDAV search returning many items? I would understand that logs are created when an update is done on the server, but here it's only a search with many contacts items returned.
    Is there maybe a setting on the Exchange server to control what kind of logs to generate?
    Thank for your help,
    Alexandre
