OID connections from Middle Tiers GROWING (not killed)

Hi everybody,
     We are using Forms/Reports protected by SSO and we seeing GROWING connections from our Middle Tiers to the LDAP (OID). In order of 3 for every user connected and after it exit the connections persist.
This is obviously a problem. In our search we found the following parameters that can be affect the duration of the connections:
OID:
orclLDAPconnTimeOut=n (minutes)
SQLNET.ORA:
names.no_persistent_resources=TRUE
names.directory_path=(tnsnames, ldap, ...)
Can anybody help us in this direction?
1. Why the connections OPEN from MTs can be closed by OID?
2. What is the adequate value for orclLDAPconnTimeOut parameter?
3. What happen if we close the connecton in "orclLDAPconnTimeOut" minutes and the forms still running? Raise an error or reopen a connection?
4. names.no_persistent_resources=TRUE drop the persistent connections from MTs to OID?
Our numbers of users actually are in the order of 1000.
We have 5000 forms and 2000 reports on AS 10gR2 AIX
2 MTs (AIX 5.3 2 CPU 1.5Ghz dual core x 12Gb RAM) x 4 OC4J_BI_FORMS
1 SSO/OID (AIX 5.3 * 2 CPU 1.5Ghz dual core x 12Gb RAM )
Tx in advance for any help.
diego.

Pooled connections and VPD - anyone worked out the architecture to make this work?
I posted a question in XML forum asking for ideas on how to use Virtual Private Database with XSQL or JDBC connection, where the connection is pooled across many users. I have not actually tested out the VPD policy yet, but I can see that each user is getting the same session id (from dbms_unique_session). I am therefore assuming VPD will not work - but haven't got around to testing yet (will very soon though).
OCI seems to address proxy user access but its a leap into another product area (and C) that we don't really want to have to make. And I'm still not sure if this will enable VPD.

  • Load balancing 10g forms - Connection from new browser window not supported

    Load balancing 10g forms - Connection from new browser window not supported
    We're experimenting with using webcache to load balance between multiple applications servers running OC4J forms processes.
    We currently have one machine with infrastructure and mid-tier (BI & Forms) installed, which is being used for the webcache functionality, this is load balancing between 2 other servers each of which just have the mid-tier (BI & Forms) installation
    In order to get this to work, I had to follow the instructions in the Forms deployment guide : http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_11/web.1012/b14032/tuning.htm#sthref707
    The main gist of this is that you need to set the following in the orion-web.xml file in order that the sessions are maintained:
    <session-tracking
    cookies="enabled">
    </session-tracking>
    This all works fine in most cases.
    The problem I am having is if I do one of the following on the client machine:
    1) From IE6 / IE7 run a copy of a forms application. Then open a new window using the "New Window" menu option, and attempt to run another forms application.
    2) In IE7 or Firefox 2.0 open a copy of the forms application, and then open a new tab and try and open another forms application.
    If I try either of these I get a FRM-92101 error, and the following is displayed in the java console:
    oracle.forms.net.ConnectionException: Connection from new browser window not supported
    From trawling various forums (including metalink and otn) it looks like a problem with the way coockies are handled.
    Unfortunately the usual workaround is to ensure that the session tracking option in the orion-web.xml file is disabled.
    The problem is that I need this enabled in order for the load balancing to work.
    Does anyone know of any other workarounds or patches that might help resolve this?
    We're using Application server 10.1.2.0.2 running on windows 2003 servers.

    You were right. Carriage returns were stopping it from working (the document is laid out over separate lines, so I assumed it would make no difference...).
    I've now managed to get it so the forms at least run, but they are all being run in the forms OC4J instance on the same machine as the OHS.
    Has anyone actually managed to get this to work, or am I doing something wrong?
    I did wonder if using an OHS instance on a machine with no forms installation would make any difference?
    I had raised a support call via metalink on this subject, but they eventually came to the conclusion that the only way to do this is with a hardware load balancer (Despite several documents suggesting that webcache is the way to go (including the forms deployment manual)).
    I'm at the point now of giving up and writing some custom scripts to do the job instead...

  • UD Connect from SQL Server does not parse semicolons

    Hi,
    I am trying to retrieve data from SQL Server database using UD Connect and a Remote Cube.
    The data comes over and the string looks like this:
    '07;2005;LOC;2345.45;Comment'
    The first field is defined as 10 varchar in SQL Server so my Infoobject is also 10 char long.
    However when I use LISTCUBE or a query the field contains the first 10 characters: '07;2005;LOC' and the second field picks up from the next character.
    When the SQL Server definition of the field was changed to char(10) the first field was OK but the second field in BW started with ';'.
    It looks like that the ';' is not interpreted as the divider between fields.
    Does anybody know how to overcome this issue?
    Thanks for your help,
    Tamas Nagy

    Hi Anwesa,
    I have the same problem on BW 3.5 Service pack 17 with J2EE servic pack 18 -
    is there a general olution to the problem?
    thanks for any help in advance,

  • Removed a connection from network map, can not find again

    I removed a home computer from the network map, intending to block access. While I did achieve that, I am now trying to remove the block and allow the computer to reconnect. There seems to be no way possible to do this. Everywhere I search has told me to simply remove the intruder status from the network map, but the computer I'm trying to unblock does not show up on the map whatsoever. I've reinstalled my router, and that affected nothing. Is there another way to completely revert the router to factory default? Or is there some piece in the software that could fix this that I am not seeing? The computer's OS is Vista-32bit (that can not connect).
    Thanks for your help,
    Steve.

  • USB connection from iPod to PC not working

    Whenever I connect my ipod to my PC via the USB, three beeps are heard signaling that the connection is not being made. However, when I plug the iPod into other computers using the same USB chord, it works. Also, when I plug other things into my computer using USB, they are recognized.
    What should I do so I can connect my iPod to my PC to update my iPod?

    This worked for me...
    Reinstall the COM interface for the iPod Service
    1. Quit iTunes and any running iPod Updater.
    2. Click iPodService.exe in the Windows Task Manager window.
    3. Click End Process.
    4. Click Yes.
    5. On the Start menu, click Run. Note that the Run windows may appear behind the Windows Task Manager window.
    6. Enter this text (including the quotation marks):
    "C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe" /service
    7. Click OK in that window.
    8. On the Start menu, click Turn Off Computer.
    9. Click Restart.

  • IIOP connection from JDeveloper does not work

    I'm trying to run some sample EJB programs but cannot connect to the IIOP port from JDeveloper. I have installed Oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise on my machine, and it includes a listening location for IIOP on port 2481 under the listener. I can connect to JServer on this database from DBA Studio using various user/passwords, so the IIOP connection seems to work in principle.
    But when I try to set up an IIOP connection from JDeveloper (v.3.1.1.2), the "Test" button fails to connect, but does not give any details on the reason for the error.
    I have tried using the command line utility sess_sh, but this fails telling me the URL is invalid, even though it is exactly the same as the URL I connected to in DBA Studio.
    Why can I connect from DBA Studio but not from JDeveloper, and can anyone tell me how to get this connection to work?
    (It shouldn't be this hard to get a simple "Hello world" EJB to work!)
    Thanks,
    Chris

    You must use Jdev 3.2.x to communicate with RDBMS 8.1.7.
    Jdev 3.1.x.x is for RDBMS 8.1.6.

  • InitialContextFactory to connect from java to OID

    Hi,
    I have a problem to connect from my application java to OID, I was using the following InitialContextFactory in my code in this way:
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.evermind.server.ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://192.168.3.112:3061/dn=fedco,dn=com");
    but it gives back the following error to me:
    Problem looking up : javax.naming.NamingException: META-INF/application-client.xml resource not found (see J2EE spec, application-client chapter for requirements and format of the file).
    I have been looking for about the xml files but I have found that they are necessary when one works with EJBs which is not my case, I need to know if I am using the appropriate InitialContextFactory or if another one is the appropriate for this case.
    Please, help me.
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
    You are definately using the incorrect InitialContextFactory. The com.evermind.server.ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory is intended for Standalone Java clients that require access to remote EJBs AND have been configured with a client-application.xml file.
    Try the following:
    //Setup intial context for OID server
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, ldapURL);
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_AUTHENTICATION, "none");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, dn);
    // Anonymous bind to create the intial context
    try
    dirCtx = new InitialDirContext(env);
    log.debug("New LDAP context created " + dirCtx);
    catch (NamingException ne)
    log.error("Failed to create InitialContext for LDAP server:", ne);
    throw new RuntimeException("LDAP server is not available");
    Where ldapURL is "ldap://<host>:<port>" and dn is the OID content you are interested in e.g. "dc=site,dc=company,dc=com".
    Hope this helps.

    Yes, I did try to go on my settings>wifi and was waiting for any wifi signals to pick up, but nothing shows up. But on my PC I get a whole list of networks to choose from. Regarding my neighbor, I already have her password that is why I was able to get it on my PC, the problem is that the mini Ipad is not picking any signal neither can it locate me when I go to maps.

  • How do I connect to Time Capsule from a Windows 8.1 machine which is on a Windows domain. I have been able to connect from a Windows 7 machine on a Windows domain to a Time Capsule. Airport utility is not displaying the Time Capsule Win8.1 machine

    How do I connect to Time Capsule from a Windows 8.1 machine which is on a Windows domain. I have been able to connect from a Windows 7 machine on a Windows domain to a Time Capsule. Airport utility is not displaying the Time Capsule Win8.1 machine.
    I have checked that the firmware has been updated to 7.6.4 . Similalrly the Win8.1 machine has been loaded with the update specified in another discussion.

    Firstly how are you connecting to the TC.. wireless or ethernet?
    Please open a command window and ping it.. ping by name and by IP address.
    If ping succeeds at least by IP it should work.
    In windows explorer type
    \\10.0.1.1 (or whatever the TC ip is.. that is the default).
    Having the airport utility for windows loaded can help the process. As it loads bonjour for windows.
    7.6.4 firmware on the TC is useless. It works better on 7.6.1
    If the ping does not succeed by either name or IP address yet you have internet through the TC, then your network is setup wrongly. You are have firewalls blocking local IP. Take down all the firewalls.

  • I reset network settings on my iPhone. However now it looks as if my iPhone and iPad are no longer linked. They are both connected to my apple account but when I send an imessage from one it is not picked up by the other. What do I do?

    I reset network settings on my iPhone. However now it looks as if my iPhone and iPad are no longer linked. They are both connected to my apple account but when I send an imessage from one it is not picked up by the other. What do I do? If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks x

    Check Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on both your iPhone and your iPad to make sure that the following are all true:
    (1) you have selected the same Apple ID on both devices,
    (2) you have the same entries checked under "You can be reached by iMessage at:" on both devices,
    (3) you have the same entry checked under "Start new conversations from:" on both devices,
    and
    (4) that the entry checked in #3 is one of those checked in #2 on both devices.
    When you say it has affected your iCloud account, what effect has it had?

  • I want to back up an Iphone 3G and put all the content into Iphone 4. When Iphone 4 is connected to Itunes I do not get an Option to restore from Iphone 3G. IOS 3G - 4.2.1

    I want to back up an Iphone 3G and put all the content into Iphone 4. After I have backed up the Ipone 3G and then when Iphone 4 is connected to Itunes I do not get an Option to restore back up from Iphone 3G. The only devive is see in the drop down list is my Iphone 4. The IOS on Iphone 3G is 4.2.1 and on Iphone 4 is 4.1.
    Please share if anyone has any solution to such a problem.

    You will first have to update your iPhone 4 in order to restore it from the backup of your 3G. Follow the directions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
    This is an erase/restore deal, so make sure all of your data is on your computer before you begin. iOS 6.1.2 will be installed on your iPhone 4.
    Once done, on your iPhone 4: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You'll now be able to restore your 3G backup to your iPhone 4.

    Hello ahronzombi!
    Do you try it with apache web server ? If yes, is there any related information in the apache.log when someone try to connect from out. What's in your http server related config files, vhosts, etc?
    Ill try that today. i tried something similar with sshd and looked at the verbose output of the program when trying to connect remotely. it was never touched, like no one tried to connect. i feel like its a network security issue since i can connect locally. but ill check these logs as well
