Ok, so here is what I am trying to do....

I have my entire itunes library on my MBP. I just bought a Mini to connect to my home TV. I want to have my itunes library on both my MBP and my Mini. Now here is the question. Can I have my library on both computer, and have both of them update whenever I make a change or add a song to one of them? I would like to have two independent library's, but to be able to keep both the same. Basically mirror images of each other. Can this even be done. Thank you for your help.

FYI: Click here for info on Sync-O-Tunes. Description follows:
*"syncOTunes is for you if you have two Macs or PCs, you have two iTunes libraries, and if you never have all your songs on each computer. syncOtunes synchronizes your iTunes libraries. Just select the iTunes library file from your first Mac or PC, open the iTunes library of your second computer through a network share, syncOtunes compares the songlistes and creates a folder for each of your machines, containing the missing song files. Then, import that folder into iTunes with an AppleScript, not needed files are automatically trashed, and you're done."*
I have not used it, but it sounds like it does what you want.

Close ... before going for a specific Cisco app ... lets find out some details:
    Host we need more details:
What is your server environment (Windows Server, or Mac OS X Server, or Linux)?
What security is implemented in your environment - as what is restricted (RDP for all or specifc credentials on all machines? Are you part of local admin group to the server you wish to connect)?
Does your environment Support CISCO IPSec connection? If so use Settings> VPN and IPSec tab to enter VPN details, if not then go with above suggestion. IF your restricted to RSA then either built in VPN settings or 3rd party app for RSA would suffice.
Finally, there are many RDP applications out there I use "Mocha RDP Light" (free minimal ads when launched not when connecting).

  • T400 type 2768, Internal Speakers do not work? Here's what I have tried.

    Hello all,
I just spent hours reading all the problems people have had with their thinkpad internal speakers not working. I bought this computer, which is past the warranty date, and am trying to fix it myself. It originally had Vista installed, and was upgraded before I bought it to windows 7. Once I updated the driver for audio, the three audio buttons began to work, but not the speakers. The headphone jack does work, however? Here is what I have done to try to fix this based on what I read on past posts in this forum:
updated windows, installed over 72 files
updated lenovo drivers for windows 7, installed 132 files. Not all applicable.  Just covering my bases.
rolled back bios to default setting
    uninstalled and reinstalled audio driver
    updated BIOS again
installed new speakers.  Old ones looked fine. No melting, pinched wires, and the inside of the laptop looked fine.
inserted headphones in and out several times to see if the audio is interupted by cutoff there. Sound was fine in headphones, but nothing happened.  No noise or static or anything.
I read that this issue could be a motherboard problem? Every diagnostic I ran indicates that the sound is functioning normally. I need to know what to do next. I feel like I got took, but do really like the computer.
    Can anyone help? Thanks.

If Eric's suggestion doesn't work, open System Preferences, go to "sound" and check to see of the mute button is not checked. Also check if the output name is "digital output" rather than "internal speakers" If it is, then it maybe it is the logic board, which it was in my case. However, it was covered under my warrenty. My sound problem came from a faulty logic board that was replaced in my computer for a "non boot" problem.
    Good luck

  • No sound from headphone jack -- here's what I've tried -- now Genius bar?

    Hi all,
Some time ago the headphone jack on my MacBook decided to stop putting out sound. I've searched a bunch of forums looking for clues but no dice yet. I've looked into a bunch of things trying to diagnose and fix this problem, which I'll summarize below:
In System Preferences > Sound the Output toggles between Headphones and Internal Speakers when I plug in and unplug the headphones, so I know the jack is responding. The mute button is not selected and volumes are up.
In Audio MIDI Setup > Properties for Built-in Output > Source: Headphones, volume sliders for 1 and 2 are up and not muted. (M is greyed and all the way down but I understand this is for mono.)
I deleted these files and rebooted:
    com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
    com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist
Now here's the crazy part -- my girlfriend has reported the headphones have worked recently with DVD Player. Earlier today it was working with DVD Player only to go out after hitting pause. I quit and relaunched DVD Player and they started working again. Hit pause and they died again; now after several relaunches nothing's happening.
So my next step is probably to visit the "Genius Bar" at the Apple Store. Is there anything else I can try that I've not thought of? I've seen a number of forum posts on this problem, so it sounds like I'm not the only one this has happened to.
    Thanks for your help.

Took this in to a repair shop and they ended up having to replace the logic board. Thankfully it was still under Apple Care.

  • How do you drop a publication that is gone from SSMS but shows up in replication monitor? Here's what I've tried...

    Hello,
I had  two test databases on one server that I had been experimenting with for transactional replication.  I wanted to delete the publication from one database and the subscription from the other and finally delete both databases.  I deleted
the publication, the subscription , the jobs related to them and finally the databases.  I must confess that i wasn't as careful as I would be if I hadn't planned on just deleting everything.  So what I have now is nothing appearing in SSMS under
local publications or local subscriptions for these two test databases (but pubs and subs for other useful things) but in replication monitor the publication shows up with a red x.
I cannot use sp_droppublication  @publication='my pub name' because the publication database is gone.  Can I do anything to remove this publication from replication monitor?  This isn't a production server yet it has some users who would be
severely inconvenienced if I have to drop all replication and rebuild.  Is there any other way?
    Thanks.

Hi, I had a similar case, apply the EXEC sp_removedbreplication, but in the replication monitor even the replication was visualized with a red x, which caused me a false alarm.
The records MSreplication_monitordata table can not be deleted manually, it is only a guide for the monitor replication, because that's what I understood also try removing your records, but had no success.
Reaches a point where I thought I had to recreate all replications, but I found a solution.
Guide me in that table (MSreplication_monitordata), to search for agents publisher that had not been removed (eg DB: SDCGHJ), then search these agents and items in the tables: MSdistribution_agents, MSsnapshot_agents, MSlogreader_agents; located in the distribution
database and delete records that made reference to publisher_db SDCGHJ, delete jobs that they made reference to the publication eliminated.
With these steps the publication is no longer displayed on the monitor replication and "red x" stop appearing.
I hope it is of your utility.

  • I am trying to hide the Options menu in UserChrome.css but it is not working. Here is what I have tried menuitem[label="Options..."] {display:none !important;}

    In the userChrome.css I have tried the following entry: #updateSeparator, #checkForUpdates {display: none !important;}
    menuitem[label="Options..."] {display:none !important;}
    menuitem[label="Add-ons"] {display:none !important;}
    menuitem[label="Get Bookmark Add-ons"] {display:none !important;}
The other lines work, but the line to hide the Options menu does not. This in on Windows 32-bit XP sp3.

It is an ellipsis (…) and not three dots.
If there is an ID for a menu entry like in this case #menu_preferences then it is better to use that ID.
    <pre><nowiki>#menu_preferences, #menu_openAddons, {display:none!important;}</nowiki></pre>
"Get Bookmark Add-ons" is a normal bookmark that you can remove via the right-click context menu or move elsewhere.

  • I'm trying to write a formula to return a blank cell if the condition is met, and to show the numerical difference if not.  Here is what I've written:=IF((F35-F29)=0, " ", (F35-F29)). It is returning 0.00, not a blank cell.  Where is my error?

I'm trying to write a formula to return a blank cell if the condition is met, and to show the numerical difference if not.  Here is what I've written:=IF((F35-F29)=0, " ", (F35-F29)). When the condition is met (i.e., the difference=0) it is returning 0.00, not a blank cell.  Where is my error?

Without knowing what is in F35 and F29, I can only guess.  Your formula matches what you said but if F35 and/or F29 are the results of formulas and are decimal numbers (not integers), it is very possible that they are not exactly the same number even though you think they should be.  IEEE Floating Point math often has very very small errors so the answer is not exactly what you would get with a pencil and paper. Try one or both of these things:
Format the IF cell as scientific. is that 0.0 exactly zero? I suspect it will be some very tiny number.
Type the exact same number into F35 and F29 and see if your IF formula works as you expect.
You might need to use ROUND on F35, F29 and/or in your IF formula to get rid of the tiny math errors.
If you search the forum for floating point math or IEEE 754 you should find more than a few posts about Numbers and floating point math. Or you can read about IEEE 754 on Wikipedia.  It trips up a lot of people.
Here is a common example.  B2 and C2 are from the formulas shown in B1 and C1. They should both be exactly zero, if done with paper and pencil.  Neither is exactly zero (though I have them formatted with 2 decimals so they appear to be 0.00), they are different from each other, and subtracting one from the other is also not exactly zero.

  • Tour got wet - here's what it does - how can I tell if it is "fried"?

My Blackberry Tour (from 2009 - Blackberry device manager says I am running BB OS 4.7.1)  got wet in a rainstorm (phone was outside, not submerged, the wetness indicator strip on the battery has not had a line appear on it but a tab inside the phone is all red) approx. 5 days ago - I did some of what I should have done and some of what I probably should not have done as far as patience, lack of patience, letting it dry (in gentle heat (no hair dryer, etc. or rice), giving it a try... Here's what it does - my main questions are - do I have any hope of rescuing my contacts data - unfortunately, never backed-up?  If so, how?:
    - Without the Battery in:  Connected by USB cable to my laptop (plugged-in, USBs powered) (Windows 7; Blackberry Desktop version 5 (installed from the CD that came with the phone)) finds the phone in Windows device manager (Blackberry Smartphone connected via USB), as above, Blackberry device manager shows status as connected, can identify the phone's PIN, Blackberry Desktop Manager can see that the phone is connected (can see it's PIN) but shows that the device is in Disconnected State, the screen on the phone shows the battery with red X through it.
    With a Battery In:
    - the battery with red X goes away,
typically starts with a red indicator light, then changes to black screen with hour glass,
    - then to black screen with "BlackBerry" and progress bar (showing boot progress?).
    - Boot progress bar completes,
    - the screen shows the Verizon logo, then
    - I get a flash (sometimes longer than others) of my desktop picture (it's one of the pre-loaded ones that is not on the micro-SD card, which I have removed).
    - At this point there is a new progress bar which indicates that the phone is checking security settings (I cannot remember verbatim what it says, but it typically completes and, since I probably shouldn't be powering it on, I will not do that to get an exact quote; suffice to say, that usually completes).
    - In terms of the desktop, I can also see that, in addition to my selected picture being there , the phone remembers my alarm time at 6:40AM).
    - A couple of times when I restarted it, I held down the escape/back button during the boot and launched the phone in safe mode ("safe mode" appeared at the top of the screen - a dialog appeared that explained safe mode and allowed me to click "ok" that I accepted that I knew what safe mode was.
    - Whether in safe mode or not, it usually at this point returned to the initial power-up sequence, in a loop, between the red indicator light and the hourglass animation - it does not return to the screen with the "BlackBerry" logo with progress bar, just the aforementioned loop.
At this point, I have tried two batteries - both Blackberry OEM, but with known/potential issues:  1.) the battery that was in the phone at the time it got wet - is approx. a year old (in terms of use), but was holding a reliable charge for 3-4 hours of talk time and
2.) an older battery which may have been the one that was replaced by battery 1 or may be older - it almost certainly had diminshed charge holding capacity and had started the bulge that lithium batteries develop as the near death.  These batteries were not obtaining much, if any, in the way of  charge while in the phone plugged in, but did, outwardly (light changed from orange to green on a Blackberry OEM charger form the D-X1 battery; have not done a test with a circuit tester, etc.), accept a charge via the outside the phone method.  When using the inside the phone method - prior to any outside charging - during the boot-up process, at the point at which I could see my desktop, the indicator light flashed with the orange light and/or the indicator that one typically gets when the battery is lacking needs a re-charge).
I have received and I am currently charging a new D-X1 Blackberry OEM battery, via the aforementioned Blackberry OEM outside the phone charger, for a go-around with the closest thing that I can get to a no problems battery.
OK, I am an **bleep**: I tried to re-boot the phone right away, I wasn't doing a back-up (though I thought that it was 1.) the reason that I was buying a Blackberry with an SD card - that this information was going to be portable and 2.) that I thought that the tech from Verizon, way back when I bought it, set the phone up to store the information on the SD card (no such luck, not there) or the SIM card - how could I test that? (which is, perhaps, why I thought that a backup was taking place).  Anyway, as you can tell, I have tried to be as descriptive as possible herein to say what I am seeing, because there are a number of other people with similar problems posting in various places, but, not really the same problems (they are getting stuck on a white screen, not getting all the way through the boot that I describe, had a phone in the pool all day, don't care about the data, just trying to save the phone (I was lax about an upgrade, because I liked my phone and I had a decent outlay of cash in the phone to start-off - was pushing to make it to this fall, hopefully not much longer, to get the newer Blackberry Classic coming out... hopefully with my contact listing being ported over).  That said, I have found plenty of evidence that suggests saving the phone is a real possibility, but the data may be more of a challenge.
Huge post, looking for thoughts - thanks for any consideration given to my problems.

if booted up with out all the way dry you might have fried it
put it in a bag of rice for a few days in a nice warm spot 90-100 F
then try it again if it still does the same thing then its toast

  • Here's what worked for me...

    Here's what worked for me:
    1) I opened iTunes and in Options, I selected iTunes as the default music player for my computer (it wasn't). (I even uninstalled RealPlayer and WinAmp.)
    2) I uninstalled iTunes and iPod, and reinstalled using the newer versions on the Apple site.
    3) I basically followed this advice:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=291183&tstart=0
Which was basically to leave my iPod connected to the computer while rebooting. The first 2 times it didn't work, I forgot to put iTunes in the start menu, so that it opens when I reboot. I put iTunes and iTunes Helper (whatever that is) in the start menu (I used WinPatrol to do so, available for free here: http://www.winpatrol.com/), and then rebooted, and after a couple of tries, like magic iTunes opened, recognized my iPod, and updated it, and then, for the first time, without freezing my system, told me it was okay to disconnect.
It even worked while still running my regular systray apps, like McAfee VirusScan, Ewido Anti-Malware, Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta, and SpywareBlaster, so those were not the issue. I get the impression you need to boot it once so it recognizes the iPod and does that handshake thing, and hopefully after that it'll always do the same. We'll see...
I hope this helps someone, b/c its been a frustrating day working through all this, and I know a lot of others are still trying to get it solved. And thanks to jcog for posting his solution, that helped me, and hopefully this will help someone else...

    iPod Video, 60GB   Windows XP

it worked until the next time I synced the iPod, and then back to the freeze up. Next thing I tried was this Microsoft help page:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
which advises on several things, all of which seem helpful, but the thing still freezes up. I can sync the iPod, then the system freezes and I have to reboot. So, I now believe Apple will have to issue a patch for these bugs when using the new 5G iPods with WinXP.

  • Successful update on a 3G--here's what I did

I read a lot of threads here before deciding to take the plunge to update my 3G to OS4. I was able to update successfully thanks to the things I learned here, so I thought my experience might be helpful to someone else.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Installed the newest version of itunes.
    2. When itunes asked me to download/install OS4, I chose download only.
    3. While it was downloading, I asked it to transfer purchases from my phone to itunes. I copied all pictures to my computer and copied the itunes music folder to an external hard drive. And this became important later---in the itunes folder, there's a folder called Mobile Applications. I copied this to my desktop.
    4. I synced my phone so there would be a new backup.
    5. After some trial and error with the "update" button, I decided to go the "restore" route. I clicked on "restore" while holding down Shift, and it opened a folder for me to find the file I wanted to use. Vista puts the iphone update file in computer name/appdata/roaming/apple computer/itunes/iphone software updates. I clicked on the OS4 update.
    6. It restored the phone as a new phone, which was pretty fast. Then it asked me if I wanted to sync using a previous backup, so I selected the backup I had done right before restoring. It put all my data and settings back during this process (about 20-30 minutes) but did not return my apps or music.
    7. Once it finished restoring from the backup, I synced again and it put some of my apps and all of my music back on. A few of the apps wouldn't sync, so I went back into the Apps part of itunes (not the one within the phone, but in the itunes library) and saw that there were exclamation marks next to some of the apps. When I clicked on one, it asked me if I wanted to find the file. I found the copies I'd put on the desktop and clicked it, and it asked me if I wanted to do the same thing for all the apps whose files were missing. It restored all of them that way, and I was able to sync again and put them on the phone. Then I rebooted the phone, and that was that.
All said and done, it took <3 hours. When I'd tried going the "update" route a week or so earlier, after three hours the "backing up" progress bar had moved only microscopically. So this was, by far, preferable.
My phone is fast--no problems with lagging or slowness that I've noticed. I love the folders--I went from 7 pages of apps to three. The consolidated email is handy, and the ipod app now lets you edit playlists from within the phone. My only complaint is battery performance--I hadn't been impressed with the 3G battery to begin with, and now I think it's been reduced even further. But I didn't have any of the problems I'd been reading about here for the last few weeks.
I think Apple should do a better job of giving update instructions (not just "click update now") for older phones, rather than leaving it to user trial and error. But thanks to others' experience, my update was successful and I hope in turn to help someone else.

I will post here, since this is a hot topic and I know people want help on this....I was successful with upgrading my 3G to 4.0 the first time out, got lucky I guess. I followed what was supposed to be the standard protocol and it took around 2 hours to complete without a hitch. However, I still noticed a significant lag in performance on opening most apps, iTunes, etc. I decided it was wasn't worth the few added features and after I was forced to downgrade my wife's 3G ( a brand new replacement phone one week old, since her camera had gone bad under the extended warranty - her's was crashing and hanging right and left after the 4.0 upgrade) I downgraded mine as well, and appreciate getting all the speed back. I did try the hard reset a few times, which did seem to help, but the speed is significantly better under the old 3.1.3 system from my experience.
I did lose my text messaging history, as well as pics and phone messages, but had the pics backed up, could call to listen to my stored messages and have a me.com subscription for syncing email, etc. so in the end all I lost was my SMS history, along with setups for passwords, networking, etc.
I will probably buy the new phone in a couple of months after it's stable, but I personally don't think the upgrade is worth the performance lag on a 3G. Who wants to stand around (or take your eyes off the road!) while waiting for a screen to load, so you can check messages, answer a call, etc.) Yes, I use a headset while driving, but still take calls when the road is clear, but the lag time was frustrating. Kind of like working on a Mac 20 years ago and waiting, waiting, waiting.....
The sequence for downgrading mentioned elsewhere in these threads worked for me with the option key selection on the restore button, and the use of the 3rd party software (rec? something? sorry) to force quit the phone at the end of the restore. It's been posted several times. Sorry to hijack this post in a way, but you should know that, yes, the upgrade can be performed successfully, and it may not be worth the loss of performance, and, yes, you can successfully downgrade, but you will lose some personal info.

  • Erased Hard Drive and operating system accidentally via disk utility? Here's what to do

I thought I had messed up majorly today when I attempted to erase and re-install an operating system on my friends macbook pro. I used another computer and targeted his computer so his hard drive would show up on my desktop. I then used disk utility and completely erased his hard drive. "Ooops" i thought after trying to then install Lion from my computer's applications folder. Wouldn't work. All his computer would show was a folder with a ? mark!!!
I searched for a solution as to what to do in this situation and got a lot of conflicting complex suggestions. The one that made the most sense was to create a bootable external disk to reinstall the system. This didn't work for me, I was probably doing it wrong.
HERE'S WHAT DID WORK FOR ME:
    (what you need)
    1) decent wireless internet connection (know the network and password)
    2) blank computer hard drive (no OS, no nothing)
    3) power cable
    thats it
    Step 1.
Restart your computer and hold down "Command" and the "R" keys at the same time. do this for about 30 seconds or so and release
    Step 2.
Your computer should, after a few seconds or so, show a spinning globe. Your computer will then start searching for an internet connection. Choose a network from the drop down menu and type in the password to the network.
    Step 3.
Your computer will then connect with Apple.com's software site (I think this is called OSX Recovery or something [thus the holding down of the "R" for recovery key]) and find your computer's original operating system (not sure how far back this works, but it worked perfectly with Lion)
    Step 4.
    Download the OS
    Step 5.
Upon download completion your computer may shut down. Just turn it back on and when its back up and running it will immediately start to install the OS it just downloaded.
    Step 6.
Wait for this to complete and bam, you're back to having an operating system on your computer.
I hope this works for anyone with my problem.
    Good luck!

You will need to do the following:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Errors With App Updates: Heres's what the "Apple Guy" said

Ever since the app store opened and updates to applications became available I have never been able to get an update without jumping through hoops. Those hoops would be deleting the application from iTunes and the iPhone as well as deleting any files from the application from my computer. Then after all this I have to re-download the application from iTunes.
I realize these apps don't have to be paid for again, but I find it very frustrating to have to go through this process just to get an update. My biggest issue is that I lose any and all data stored in that application because I had to delete it.
After searching these forums and seeing multiple people with the same problem, and no solution, I figured I'd go to the source and just call Apple support for iPhone and here's what they said in a nutshell.
Apple is totally aware that you can't get any updates without deleting the application. The guy was actually surprised when I told him that I have several updates per week. He said her personally only has 2 or 3 apps on his phone and he's never seen an update and thought maybe there was something wrong with my phone that I have so many updates. I told him I have about 30 apps and several of them have had several updates. This isn't a phone issue, it's an issue with iTunes being unable to load the new application without errors.
The gist of it is that there is NO way to fix this at this time. Apple fully expects us to delete the entire application every time there's an update and they don't really care that we're losing all our data. I don't think Apple had any idea that there would be as many updates as there are and so were completely unprepared. He actually told me that they are just now "getting back on our feet" after the big crash on the 11th when the 3G came out and they're doing the best they can. I'm sure this is true, but updates to applications were expected so why was this not forseen?
Disappointing!! Has anyone had any luck with updating applications without deleting everything first??? If so, how did you do it. I have tried since the middle of July with total failure. The Apple support guy was NO help so I'm turning to you guys!

Aha - interesting. Up until a few days ago, I was 'happily' updating apps virtually every day (bar the unhappiness caused by how long it took and the fact it moved the app to a different page from where I'd carefully moved it previously). I had a crash during an app update at the end of last week, after which I had to do a recovery restore. Since then... I'm seeing no updates available on the phone, even when I know they're in the store.
As of today I'd worked that could be because the App Store on the phone doesn't seem to know I've got most of my software installed, even though I clearly have (it marks only a few apps as 'Installed' on their page, whereas I've probably got 20-30). And now, checking iTunes, it's found updates for some apps, but not others. Who knows whether they'll be updated at the next sync...
Bottom line seems to be that as of 2.0.2, there are some serious issues with this aspect of the iPhone experience... along with endless backups (which to me seemed associated partly with the most recent iTunes update)... I really hope that the next update straightens things out!

  • What is Skype trying to hide?

I've had a problem with incoming calls for some time; some ring through, others don't. I only find out about the missed calls when I get emails telling me I have voicemail, though the actual voicemail doesn't usually appear in Skype until much later - sometimes as late as a day later.
Pretty straightforward issue, right? "Some calls are not reaching me." Not a lot of subtlety there. But chat support has been incompetent and awful. I've been promised follow-ups that never occur. I've gotten bad information, misinformation and been outright lied to - repeatedly. And every single support rep I've spoken with has read/heard "Some calls are not reaching me" as "NO calls are reaching me" - big difference, yet often I've had to correct them several times in the same chat!
So after literally 90 minutes on chat support this morning, I said enough. Support is not helping. I wanted to contact Skype's US office - not so much because I expected them to provide tech support, but simply to let them know about the poor service I'd received. (Those who have had similar impulses will know where this is going, I'm sure.) I was told there are no US offices for Skype, despite all manner of evidence to the contrary. After being pressed repeatedly, I was given the company's Luxembourg address.
Suddenly my question went from "Can you fix my technical issue?" to "What is Skype trying to hide?" Skype is reaping fortunes from its US customers. It seems pretty outrageous that Skype won't deign to speak with them, except through overseas representatives who barely seem to understand the product they're meant to support.
Is there any accountability at Skype?
Note: Even trying to post this here, I keep getting an error message ("An unexpected error has occurred") just trying to Preview this post. You are a communications company, right Skype?

I've heard from Aimi, who's requested additional info. I'll provide it, but why isn't all of this data readily available to Skype support? Certainly I've given it to them in great detail several times now, to every single Skype support staffer I've spoken with - in chat, on the phone, via email. Is there not a case log that reflects this? Am I really keeping more complete case files on this issue than Skype?
I have three issues with Skype, each escalating out of the previous one.
    1. Some of my incoming calls are not coming through. Obviously I cannot know how many, but I frequently recieve emails alerting me to voicemail that, upon login to Skype, have not arrived. Sometimes the messages do show up after a few hours, sometimes the next day, sometimes after logging out and logging back in. Sometimes, I imagine, they don't show up at all. And missed calls who don't leave a message? No idea. Have voice messages been left that never reached me at all? It certainly seems likely.
    2. In trying to report this issue via chat, it was clear the reps were unable to grasp even the basics of my issue. EVERY SINGLE rep I chatted with could not keep straight that not ALL of my incoming calls were failing to connect, but SOME were. These are two different issues, and SOME versus ALL seems a clear and simple distinction. But it proved too much for Skype chat support, and reps often couldn't keep this fact straight IN THE SAME CHAT. Imagine asking a waiter to hold the mayo, only to have them reply, "...Extra mayo, right?" Over and over. And you just know that sandwich is showing up with mayonnaise.
In investigating my issue, Skype staff attempted to phone my line repeatedly and could not connect. How many tech issues go unresolved because the issue can't be recreated on command? This is the support team's FIRST-HAND experience  with the issue in question, an ideal sampling. Some SEVENTEEN calls were attempted by Skype's support team to my line, only the last of which connected. But rather than follow up on their own experience, they've insisted that if I can't provide the phone numbers, dates and service providers (!) of OTHERS' failed incoming calls, there's nothing Skype will do to resolve the issue. When I asked the Skype supervisor if he'd provide that very same data for the seventeen calls to my line from his office, I was told he and Skype would be unable to accommodate me.
    3. Extremely displeased with the failures, time wasting and general inadequacy of Skype's support options, I asked for a mailing address for their US offices. I simply wanted to write to corporate as a dissatisfied customer, to call the failings of their support services to their attention. Every single Skype rep I've spoken to has refused to share a domestic address for the company. Some insisted there is no US office, others have tried to deflect the question - "We just want to be sure you're dealing with the right venue that can help you" etc. But most Skype employees/contractors simply ignore the question as though I never even asked it - though I've asked it in every chat (multiple times) and in each email.
What kind of company reaps the kind of profits Skype does from its US subscribers, yet refuses to share a mailing address for its domestic offices? This is not the behavior of an ethical company doing business on level ground. Companies with nothing to hide DON'T HIDE. Even the Better Business Bureau - a worthy organization that most ethical, reputable businesses are pleased to be on record with - has only dead addresses for Skype. Does this suggest an ethical corporate culture that makes customer service any kind of priority? Because I see it as closer to the kind of behavior exhibited by fly-by-night operations eager to avoid any kind of accountability whatsoever. It all makes for a highly suspicious public profile in any reasonable estimation. And their customer service, in my experience, is a cruel joke on its subscribers.
The only way I've been able to get Skype's attention at all has been by shouting loudly, via every means I can think of: repeatedly requesting a mailing address to write the company, a phone number, posting to this forum, emailing Skype's Facebook account, Tweeting to two different Sype Twitter accounts... And in terms of Skype service and problem resolution, I'm no farther along than I was weeks ago.
And in terms of providing an address for their US offices, Skype still appears to have something to hide.

  • Help with Ipod 80GB (detailed message as to what I have tried) error -50

Originally I had downoaded some music and put it into itunes and synced it with my brand new Ipod 80GB. Everything was fine. I deleted my songs from my hard drive and itunes. A few weeks later I had a new batch of songs that I wanted to put onto my ipod through itunes. There was a message saying there was a new version of software available and I downloaded it and everything haywire.
Now, here is what happens every time I hook my ipod up to my Dell using windows xp.
    1. I plug it in and it tells me my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu. I click that option.
    2. I get back a message saying ipod cannot sync with an unknown error occuring -50
    3. I tried apple.com's approach to fixing this error message on windows xp by copying these files into notebook and opening them:
    regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll
    4. after letting that window close it instructs that I now open itunes and hook up ipod and restore things.
    5. After hooking things up i get the same message as before. my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu. I click that option again.
    6. I get the same error -50 message.
    7. I repeat the same process of copying those files into notebook and starting all over.
    8. I get the same message "my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu. This time I cancel the erase and sync and just try to restore. It tells me it has restored and will start again in 15 seconds.
    9. I get the same message as before "my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu."
    10. This time I click cancel and try to update my software from 1.0.3 to the new version of 1.1.
It tells me it has been updated wait 15 seconds and it should be fine.
    11. I then get the same message as before "my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu."
I am clueless as to what to do now. I was detailed so I could hopefully get some specific advice as to what to do next.

    Finally a solution!!!!!!!!!!!
While I tried every option that was passed along here and none of them worked I appreciate the help and suggestions. I took it to the apple store and they fixed it. They said it was messed up because I probably had plugged it into too many different computers but i only plugged it inti one other computer but who cares.
Here is what to do if you are desperate: Most owners know that if you push the menu and the center button at the same time the ipod will restart. WELL!!!! If you can't do anything with your ipod you need to press the center button and the play/pause button at the same time and this will restart the ipod and put it in disk mode. Connect it to your cpu and open itunes. It will erase eveyrhing and reset it from scratch. All the way back to having to name your ipod again. Just a thought for those who don't mind losing their info and if they already have it saved to put back on.
