I'm still having Airport problems after I repaired my permissions.
Does anyone know how I can uninstall that QuickTime security update that I installed using my Software Update? Right after that update was installed I started having Airport problems again.

    I have been looking for a long time all over the place on a script for Acrobat Professional that will do the following:
    1. Watch a specific folder on my desktop …PDFs/Out
    2. Email the new Pdf to a specific email address everytime a new pdf appears in the box
    3. Uses the name of the pdf as the Subject of the email.
    This would increase my productivity tremendously as every Pdf that I create must get emailed to the same person.
    I am a very rookie coder and am having a tough time with it. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Okay, I lied. I got way to excited to not try this today. I don't think that it is working. I followed all of your directions about attaching folder actions and such I don't think that is the problem. Perhaps it is in how I copied the code. Although when I ran it, it did not give me an error, I just don't see the email nor has the file been moved to the final destination folder. Here is the code. Thanks again for your help.   • IMac harddrive problem

    I've got a big problem with my iMac. About 4 weeks ago my Mac began to slow down and having all kind of weird hiccups. I did a disk check with the included disk utility and it gave a lot of errors and it couldn't be repaired, so I booted the disk utility from the leopard DVD. After this harddisk check (which also can't fix it) the system wouldn't boot anymore.
    I formatted the disk and recovered all data from my time machine backup. 2 weeks later the same problem appeared again. I tried to install the whole system again and it worked, but only after I removed my bootcamp partition.
    I had one week without problems but yesterday it all happened again. Now I have a new clean install without my time machine backup and so far so good.
    Does anyone else have this problem? Could it be that my harddisk is broken? The worst problem is that the system hangs each time. There is nothing weird happening when I watch the activity monitor. The disk doesn't make any weird noises and disk warrior says its okay.

    No unfortunately i don't have apple care!
    The hiccups occur when I'm working or just listening to music. Also when time machine is doing a backup. I decided to take my mac to a reseller here in town for a checkup.

  • My usb slot won't recognize a usb device

    I have 2 usb slots.
    Plugged in a flash drive and only 1 of the slots recognizes the flash drive.  I don't see the flash drive either on my desktop or in Finder when plugged in to the 2nd of the two slots. 
    I've done all recent updates. 
    Have OSX 10.8.5
    I tested 3 sandisk flash drives.  The slot closer to the monitor won't recognize any of the drives. 
    I logged out and logged in as another user and again, slot closest to monitor won't recognize any of the flash drives.
    I also tested the 3 flash drives on another macbook I have and both slots recognized the flash drives. 
    Any rec's or ideas to help?

    I plugged in my iPhone5 and nothing, no connection on this one usb slot.  Connecting via the other slot a-okay though. 
    Unfortunately my applecare plan expired a week ago!  Hah, how's that for timing!

  • Error: All selected SDAs and SCAs have already been deployed before.

    I am trying to patch from a new NW2004s build to SPS10. I patched the JSPM to patch 10 and then used it to deploy SPS10 to the JAVA stack. It seemed to work okay with no errors, but when I check the versions of the components they show version 6 not 10.
    When I re-run the JSPM it says that the components are version 6 (not 10) and gives the error:
    <b>Error: All selected SDAs and SCAs have already been deployed before</b>.
    Any ideas on how I can correct this so that the server reports the correct version numbers of the components (I believe that they are all installed okay).

    Unfortunately the JSPM does not have a selectable option to overwrite packages.
    In Info | Tool Settings it does list 'Forcemode disabled'. Enabling that might force it to overwite packages...? However I cannot find any documentation on it.

  • TENCENT QQ Trojan on Mac

    Hi,
    After researching on Google, my friend and I have determined that I have the Tencent QQ trojan. I'm not surprised that its a QQ trojan because I use QQ (an instant messenger service in China). Apparently, the company openly recognizes that they put malware on your computer, but I never investigated it, never knew it, and assumed it could never happen on a Mac. My situation now is that I have this trojan (which exists on a Mac, according to several pages I found on Google) and I don't know what to do. Right now, I'm running ClamXAv to see what it finds. MacScan found nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Experts at SophosLabs™, Sophos's global network of virus, spyware and spam analysis centers, have announced the discovery of the first virus for the Apple Mac OS X platform. The virus, named OSX/Leap-A (also known as OSX/Oompa-A) spreads via instant messaging systems.
    The OSX/Leap-A worm spreads via the iChat instant messaging system, forwarding itself as a file called latestpics.tgz to contacts on the infected users' buddy list. When the latestpics.tgz archive file is opened on a computer it disguises its contents with a JPEG graphic icon in an attempt to fool people into thinking it is harmless.
    Some owners of Mac computers have held the belief that Mac OS X is incapable of harboring computer viruses, but Leap-A will leave them shellshocked.
    The worm uses the text "oompa" as an infection marker in the resource forks of infected programs to prevent it from reinfecting the same files.
    "Some owners of Mac computers have held the belief that Mac OS X is incapable of harboring computer viruses, but Leap-A will leave them shellshocked, as it shows that the malware threat on Mac OS X is real," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. "Mac users shouldn't think it's okay to lie back and not worry about viruses."
    Sophos customers have been automatically protected against the worm since 12:25 GMT, 16 February 2006.
    "This is the first real virus for the Mac OS X platform," continued Cluley. "Apple Mac users need to be just as careful running unknown or unsolicited code on their computers as their friends and colleagues running Windows."
    Sophos advises all computer users, whether running PCs or Macs, to practise safe computing and keep their anti-virus software updated.
    Is Leap-A a virus or a Trojan?
    Some members of the Apple Macintosh community have claimed that OSX/Leap-A is a Trojan horse, and not a virus or worm, because it requires user interaction (the user has to receive a file via iChat, and manually choose to open and run the file contained inside).
    However, this is not the definition of a Trojan horse.
    A Trojan horse is a seemingly legitimate computer program that has been intentionally designed to disrupt and damage computer activity. Importantly, Trojan horses do not replicate or have any mechanism of spreading themselves. They have to be deliberately planted on a website, or accidentally shared with another user, or spammed out to email addresses. There is nothing inside a Trojan's code to distribute themselves further to other victims.
    Trojan horses do not contain any code to distribute or spread themselves, viruses and worms do.
    OSX/Leap-A is programmed to use the iChat instant messaging system to spread itself to other users. As such, it is comparable to an email or instant messaging worm on the Windows platform. Worms are a sub category of the group of malware known as viruses.
    Therefore, it is correct to call OSX/Leap-A a virus or a worm. It is not correct to call OSX/Leap-A a Trojan horse.
    This is one of many. All the users out their that assume they will remain safe are in denial. More harmful material is being aimed at Mac daily.
    I use no AV ware, and I consider myself safe, I just thought I'd offer good reading.

  • Webcam keeps shutting off on skype

    About after 2 seconds my webcam shuts off and sometimes it doesn't turn on at all and I can only see my profile picture. It only does this on my computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the special version. Also my automatic updates are off. I'm on a Windows 8 and this has never happened before. Can someone help me? I am very upset about it.

    Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
    Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
    Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • Preventing disabling of check box - item okay in MIGO

    Dear all,
    In the MIGO transaction - during goods receipt for subcontractor material, when the item (incoming) is checked as item okay - automatically the child material (Material sent to subcontractor) is also activated thereby to enable 543 movement.
    Unfortunately some of the users are disabling the check box (for the material sent to the subcontractor). This prevents depletion of stock from the subcontractor but inflates the stock of the incoming material.
    Is there any way - either by authorisation check to prevent users disabling the check box or other methods?
    Experts suggestion is required in this regard.

  • Verizon Cust Service Lied Now I'm Trapped

    Need advice but I think I have no other options.
    I used to have USB wireless 3G device, was already free of 2 year contract (already had for 3+ years, paying $60 per month plus taxes), and was in Best Buy one day and "conned" into thinking the Jetpack Hotspot was a better deal and better plan, saving me $10 per month.
    I purchased a Jetpack from BestBuy on 12/4. On 12/6 I was traveling and tried to use but battery died in the middle of a meeting where I was running presentations over the internet. Clearly reflected poorly on me. Realized the Jetpack was not going to work for me and I should go back to the 3G device I originally had.
    I called Verizon customer service on 12/15 to ask what the termination fee would be if I terminated service, because I had signed contract renewal for 2 years with the jetpack, but that it did not work for my situation. The Verizon Customer Service woman told me there was no fee and that actually I had until after the 1st of the year to return the device with no termination fee. I told her I got it at BestBuy and asked if that is where I should take it back and sher confirmed there would be no problem and that she would "make a note on my account."
    Did I mention I travel A LOT? That is why I needed a mobile wireless device. I was unable to get back to Best Buy until 12/26, but thought I was still okay to return the device and terminate my plan because I was within the timeframe that Verizon Customer Service told me.  Best Buy called Verizon and basically the customer service person told me they would not allow me to terminate contract without the term fee of $175.
    I spent 2 HOURS on the phone with Customer Service. I was "escalated" to Michael in Salt Lake City with Verizon Tech Support Escalation. He provided me 3 completely valueless options:
    1. Stay with the current jetpack for 2 years at $50/month
    2. Buy a 4G USB device for $39 and still be stuck for 2 years at $50/month
    3. Go back to original Pantech Wifi 3G device and original plan of $60/month, with caveat that I still am stuck in new 2 year agreement
    4. Terminate contract for $175.
    He told me that I was outside of the 14 day "ho hassle guarantee" - apparently if you are one day out then you get full hassle.
    In my opinion, I should not be paying any termination fee becuase I called with in the 14 day period.  Had I been told at that time when I originally called at day 11 that I had only 14 days then I would have gone directly to Best Buy to return it all and cancel (Even if it meant changing my travel plans).  But I was told that I had until the 4th of January, bascially 30 days.
    I explained this to Michael in Salt Lake City Verizon "Customer Service" and he was unsympathetic.  He said he would "provide feedback to the original person who told me that incorrect information" but that he could not do anything for me.
    He said that he felt it was so important for me to understand the options that he took the time to explain all this to me in the 2 hours we were on the phone - I appreciate that my time is so invaluable and that his time is so valuable that he spent it doing his job and explaining my "options".  He was kind enough to offer that we revert to my original plan of $60 per month with my original 3G device, but I would still be obligated to be under the 2 year extension of contract even though it would be as if I made no change. Oh how wonderful of Verizon to do this for me - trap me in a contract that benefits them for 2 more years of gouging me even though I was already outside my original contractual obligation having been with them 3+ years.
    So I ask the forum what you recommend?  I am trapped in a 2 year contract where I have to stay with Verizon for crappy service - I haver never had good customer service with them which is why all my 4 phone lines are with AT&T. I only have Verizon because I am forced with this wifi for traveling.  My one chance to get out is now blown and Verizon will not even work with someone who had an excellent account payment history for 3+ years.
    I ran the numbers and here is what it looks like:
    Option 1 Stay with current Jetpack for 2 years then dump Verizon forever - $1200 + taxes
    Option 2 Buy another 4G USB device for the "special price" of $39 and 2 year jail then dump verizon forever - $1239 + taxes
    Option 3 Go back to original Pantech 3G USB device and pay $60 per month still stuck in 2 year extension contract - $1260 + taxes
    Option 4 Terminate for $175
    I think in every option since I have been forever poisoned by Verizon Customer Service I will tell everyone I know to terminate service if they can. I already have one friend who is outside contract and has agreed to terminate his service.  I look forward to calling Michael in Salt Lake City Customer Service Escalation to let him know that I have a hand in terminating that friend's service, and will make it my goal to help as many others terminate as well. [Edited to comply with Terms of Service]
    Any others with a similar situation where a Verizon Customer Service person lying to you resulted in your having to suffer though fees or an unwanted contract extension?

    I would have taken the 4G and the $50 plan offer, for the same data amount as you had with the 3G $60 plan. And yes you would and should have a new 2 yr contract going this route. As for the Jetpack, I have no idea what that even is.
    That being said, I would have thought even USB modems and such would have fallen under the holiday return policy.

  • Why did your representative lie to my mother to trick her out of a fantastic plan?

    I don't expect any results other than a couple of other customers shaking their head, but I just want to air this out in a semi-public forum...
    I recently found out that one of Verizon's representatives, months ago, lied to my mother to get her to give up a fantastic plan. We previously had our entire family grandfathered into an "unlimited everything" plan from when I left home for college (before "unlimited everything" was even a term). She visited a store for an issue with her phone, where the "helpful" associate noted that she was spending more than she needed to upon pulling her account. He could get her the same plan for less money! Awesome!!! By same plan, of course, he meant hands-down worse in every way if you looked at it. My mother is quite trusting and, unfortunately, did not look at it.
    I spoke with an in-store associate about this on my end of the state. I was told that there is indeed a "bounty" on getting customers to give up plans from the days when carriers were still competing, before they had a strangle-hold on their customers. He apologized that the employee who fooled my mother appeared to be "a bit overzealous" in his attempts to get a bonus for himself. He did not see anything wrong with the general policy, and he certainly couldn't help me to undo the damage, he said. It took a good deal of self control to not make a scene at this response, considering that it was followed rather quickly with an attempt to sell me accessories "as long as I was in the store." For the record, feigned sympathy + blatant sales pitch = terrible customer service.
    On a follow-up visit to determine if I would upgrade my phone or leave Verizon, another associate told me, in as many words, that I was welcome to leave. But, he cautioned, every plan with every carrier would continue to get more expensive over time--I would only be costing myself more if I tried to "vote with my dollars." Unfortunately, he was right. I ran the numbers, and it would already be more expensive to leave Verizon on the dust. Note that Verizon was not better than the competition according to my research--it was expensive to do anything but just take what was being dished out.
    There you have it: While Verizon does not specifically encourage their employees to trick you out of a good plan, they apparently give them good reason to do so. On top of that, they know that there isn't a thing you can do to stop them or get your old plan back if you slip up.
    Caveat emptor, I suppose.

    Hi.  I checked on the order and it says the order is currently being processed and I should check back tomorrow. I'm mostly just concerned because I got an email saying the order was on hold, and I want to make sure it actually does go through and I'm not just waiting for a delivery that's not going to come. I'm still confused as to why I'd get an email saying I had to call the fraud department only to be told I shouldn't have called the fraud department.

  • How do I complain to Adobe about a lying representative?

    While investigating the purchase of a Photoshop CC subscription, I specifically asked an Adobe Rep if I would have to reinstall my plugins from CS6.  His short answer was NO.  This was clearly a lie to pad his own personal bottom line.  So, do I have a means of transferring my plugins from CS6 or must I go through the aggravation of reinstalling them?  As I'm well within the 30 cancellation period, I've a good mind just to cancel the subscription and run CS6 as long as I can.

    I apologize for posting in anger earlier.  A second Adobe Rep indicated that it was possible to transfer plugins from CS.  Here is the pertinent exchange:

I believe that even a 'little white lie' simply adds a burden in our childrens hearts and allows them to think it is okay. As I was told, "It is okay, how is Apple going to find out?"     She can use an iPod. She just can't have her own account in the iTunes Store. The restriction is on using the iTunes Store, not on using apps or playing content purchased from it. You just need to set up an iTunes Store account and buy items for her rather than having her do it on her own.

  • Imported avi files video choppy, audio okay

    Had to resort to using Dazzle bridge with Pinnacle HD 14 to get D8 tapes captured to laptop. Clips play fine if i just click on them. They are avi files. When I import clips to Premiere (I don't like Pinnacle) the audio is okay but video is choppy - frames keep freezing although the audio continues okay. One of my puzzles is what is the proper project preset for files and folders as sources. Doesn't seem to be addressed anywhere, even in Grisetti's book. Also, presets for importing D8 format tapes is also not addressed. While I was able to import this files to PRE before (the last few weeks) now they won't capture. That's why I resorted to retrying dazzle pinnacle combo in desperation. The bridge works to capture, can import files into PRE but again, the freeze frame problem noted above occurs.

    Unfortunately, the Dazzle doesn't interface well with Premiere Elements. It works great with the Pinnacle software that's designed to work with it. But it doesn't produce DV-AVIs, the universal language of PC-based video.
    If you open those AVIs with G-Spot, it will tell us what type of codec those files use.

    Once we know that, we may be able to recommend software for converting it to an editable video.
    Or you can just edit it with Pinnacle's software.
    The best solution though would be to capture any analog video with a DV bridge, a device designed to create DV-AVI files. The FAQs to the right of this forum offer more information.

    EDIT:
    You refer in your post to D8 video. If by that you mean Digital8, there is an even simpler solution (assuming you also have a Digital 8 camcorder). But only if you're using Sony Digital8. Regular 8mm and Hi-8 video won't work  with this system.

  • Nokia u have lied and failed with N97

    Well it's November and there is still no V2 update for the N97 as promised in both posts on this site and in the Guardian newspaper article!!
    This means that Nokia have now lost a loyal customer and N series adopter (had 6 N series phones in my time). I will not be buying another Nokia and will definitely be an Iphone man from now on.
    Thing I don't get is that at a time that they have already reported losses they are willing to lose their most loyal customers as I know that I am not the only N97 user that will be leaving Nokia for good!
    I don't like being lied to and feel I have been by Nokia, you could say that's a little harsh but because they haven't come out and given me any reason let alone a good one, for the delay then I can only assume it was a lie.
    Well done Nokia you have committed N series suicide and will see the N97 as the phone that killed the UK market and provided Apple with more customers.

    I too am fed up with Nokia's lies and inability to keep their loyal customers up to date, most of my mates have i-phones and I have spent a lot of time defending Nokia's, not anymore, they've made me look a fool and my loyalty has run out. Why can't you let us know what is going on and more to the point why can't you release a phone that is fit for purpose in the first place. I am very unhappy and currently trying to get my contract with Vodafone and this paperweight canceled so I can move to a different manufacturer, if not Mazuma will be getting this rubbish. I can't believe that a company like Nokia can release such rubbish! You've lost me Nokia and I wont be coming back! Im sure this is the case for thousands of Nokia customers and and you may not see the impact on sales now but over the next 2 years when peoples contracts are up for renewal you will see your sales drop!
    Oh and Nokia, can you tell us why we dont have an update and when it will be released? If your going to blame Vodafone for us not having the update then can you give us the date and time that the V2 software has been submitted to Vodafone etc for their testing/branding?
