OLAP Universe - Filter Expression

Hello,
Can anyone help me in how to write below filter expression in OLAP universe filter expression:
(PeriodType NOT IN (0,2) or EntryPeriod=(CASE when Company in ('PH','AU') THEN '200800'
when Company in ('AE','BR') THEN '201000'
when Company ='LV' THEN '201100'
END)) and (Journalcode NOT IN ('YTI','PROD'))
and SubledgerTypeCode = 2 AND LetteringDate IS NULL
and EntryDate <= @Prompt('Please Select as on Entry Date','d',,MONO,FREE)
Your help on this will highly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Pallavi

Use Aggregate() function in place of sum for the Rolling Calculation. Eg:
<EXPRESSION>Aggregate( {[0CALMONTH].CurrentMember:[0CALMONTH].CurrentMember.lead(@Prompt('Numb
er of Months','N',,mono,free))},@Select(Measures\Amount))</EXPRESSION>

• OLAP Universe Filter for Constant

Hello
I am trying to create a universe filter. We have a BO OLAP Universe on top of MSAS 2008. We are at BOXI 3.1 SP2/FP2.2
<FILTER KEY="[Date].[Calendar Date].[Date]"><CONDITION
OPERATORCONDITION="InList"><CONSTANT
CAPTION="[Today].item(0).MEMBER_CAPTION"/></CONDITION></FILTER>
Where [Today] is a calculated member.
This one parses fine, however when it comes to MDX which i capture via
profiler
WITH SET NS28B9BE741FD446A5A0414EA718F8FC_0 AS Filter([Date].[Calendar
Date].levels(4).allmembers,((([Date].[Calendar
Date].currentmember.properties("CAPTION")="[Today].item
(0).MEMBER_CAPTION"))))
SELECT { [Measures].DefaultMember } ON COLUMNS ,
NS28B9BE741FD446A5A0414EA718F8FC_0 DIMENSION PROPERTIES
MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME, MEMBER_CAPTION ON ROWS FROM [My Cube]
This returns empty. However it works fine and returns value if i remove "" wrapping
[Today].item(0).MEMBER_CAPTION and run this query in SQL Server Management Studio ( MDX query)
However i cannot introduce the same in the filter - if i try it gives
me a parse error.
i.e the following doesnt help
<FILTER KEY="[Date].[Calendar Date].[Date]"><CONDITION
OPERATORCONDITION="InList"><CONSTANT
CAPTION=[Today].item(0).MEMBER_CAPTION/></CONDITION></FILTER>
Can you kindly advise if you have seen similar errors and what i can do possibly in this case to workaround this?

Hi Didier,
Thank you for your response. That was exactly my original design - but it has performance implications for us. Please see an earlier thread of mine.
Query Performance in OLAP MSAS Universe using Filter
In this Case the MDX will become as below.
Which means every additional dimension i add creates multiple cross joins, and the filter will go through all possible cross-join combination to filter out that one record for that particular date. My original thread explains this more clearly.
Is there no other way to implement such a filter?
WITH
MEMBER [Measures].[2FF3DF31-5D02-4A9B-A8,BC,E7,25,C2,30,1B,61] AS
IIF

=
[Today].Item(0).Member_Caption
,1
,0
SELECT { [Measures].DefaultMember } ON COLUMNS ,
,NON EMPTY

CrossJoin
AddCalculatedMembers
[Date].[Calendar Date].[Date].MEMBERS

• OLAP universe filter with pattern matching.

Hi,
I tried to create both a qaaws and a webi report which contained a filter with pattern matching on an olap universe . When I ran this it took too long to be usable. I found note 1500666 which says that pattern matching is not supported in MDX and to use BEX query variables instead.
I have created a bex query with a variable which has "Variable Represents" set to "Selection Option". I can run this query and using the search option I can do a pattern match search. I have built a universe based on this query but the filter that gets created automatically in the universe uses a "Between" operator.
Does anyone know if it is possible to change the definition of the filter in the universe so that it does a pattern match search and if so how?
The end result is that I would like to be able to do a pattern match search on the text description of a BW employee object.
Thanks
Quentin.

It would be better if you post the Filter definition here...
And why don't you do Pattern matching at BO query panel level??
Where you can find Matches pattern operator to do same stuff.
Thank You!!

• How create filter in olap universe with MDX LIKE Function

Hi all
I need to create a filter in a olap universe with the LIKE MDX function.
Problem:
There is a dimension with account numbers whit 10 digits like this: 5683492703 and i need to create a filter whit all account numbers whit the number 7 in the sixth position in a olap universe.
How to do this?
Thanks all

Try like this :
<FILTER KEY="[Level Object Definition]">
<CONDITION OPERATORCONDITION="Like">
<CONSTANT CAPTION="_____7*"/>
</CONDITION>
</FILTER>
Not sure if it is _ or ? to represent a single character. Try ? in place of _ if the above code doesn't work.

• MSAS OLAP Universe Pre Defined Filter

Hi:
We have a Universe based on a MSAS cube. The cube has only three time u201Cdimensionu201D objects u2013 Year, Quarter and Month. All come across as Character data types. The Month object displays the year and the month concatenated together (2009.JUL, for example). What we need to do is to create a pre defined filter in the Universe that will always give us the data for rolling 16 months. So, for example, if we run the report in July, the data would be for April 2009 through July 2010 u2013 of course, if the report is run next month in August, the data would be for May 2009 through August 2010. If anyone can offer any help in what the pre defined filter in the Universe would look like, that would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi Didier:
Thanks again for your response u2013 the revised filter works without any syntax errors.
There are two problems. Firstly, we need it to dynamically calculate the 16 month period based on the month when the query is run, instead of prompting the user to enter the ending period as it does now.
Secondly, the dates that it brings back donu2019t appear to be correct. Here is what it brings back, if July 2010 is entered for the prompt:
2009.MAR
2009.MAY
2009.NOV
2009.OCT
2009.SEP
2010.APR
2010.AUG
2010.DEC
2010.FEB
2010.JAN
2010.JUL
What I would expect it to bring is the following:
2009.APR
2009.AUG
2009.DEC
2009.JUL
2009.JUN
2009.MAY
2009.NOV
2009.OCT
2009.SEP
2010.APR
2010.FEB
2010.JAN
2010.JUL
2010.JUN
2010.MAR
2010.MAY
Here is the exact Filter that I am using:
<FILTER EXPRESSION="IIF([Time].[H1].currentmember.member_value <= STRTOMEMBER("@Prompt('Select period','A','Time\Month',Mono,primary_key,Persistent)").member_value AND [Time].[H1].currentmember.member_value >= STRTOMEMBER("@Prompt('Select period','A','Time\Month',Mono,primary_key,Persistent)").lag(16).member_value ,1,0)">
<CONDITION OPERATORCONDITION="Equal"><CONSTANT CAPTION="1"></CONSTANT></CONDITION></FILTER>
Also, it does not seem to change the number of months returned even if I change the lag(16) to lag(15).
BTW, I installed the Adventure Works cube and tested the query there u2013 it works as expected when I use it there, as you had suggested in thefirst example you gave me.
Thanks again for your help with this.
Regards,
Nishant.

• Adding mandatory filter with own LoV to BW OLAP Universe

Dear all,
I want to add a own filter with custom LoV to a characteristics-filter in an OLAP Universe. This filter does not exist in the BEx Query, so I have to do it manually.
So when the prompt shows up in WebI, the User should be able to select the Values from the custom LoV, for example:
- Tokio
- London
- Paris
The filter has to be mandatory and Tokio should be preselected. I was testing some things with the filter-XML, but always got errors. Can somebody tell me how this works?
Thank you for help in advance!
B. Wegner

Hi,
There are a few steps involved, I would suggest approaching them one at a time.
First, try to set up a filter (condition in the universe) to only show data for Tokyo (no prompt). Ensure you can get this to work.
Next, try and turn this condition into a prompt, but just define the LoV in the prompt syntax, not a separate object. Check that this works.
Next, try and split out that LoV into it's own object that populates from the characteristic in the BEx query. This will be the tricky part (maybe), if possible, get a filter created in the BEx query (make sure it's set as 'ready for user input') so that you see how the LoV gets created.
As a last resort, have a look in the manual: http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31SP3/en/xi31_sp3_sap_olap_univ_en.pdf
Hope that helps.

• Filter Object with Filter Expression error.

Hello everyone!
I'm trying to put together the following expression for a filter to be used in a report:
Order Date -> object name = M1 - (number, measure)
Current Date -> object name = M2 - (number, measure)
Comparison between the two:
<EXPRESSION> IIF (@ Select (M1) = @ Select (M2), 1.0) </EXPRESSION>
object name 3
So far everything works fine.
When I create a report in Web and I put the filter M3 = 1, it filters properly.
I thought of putting the filter in a filter object in the universe, like this:
<FILTER EXPRESSION = "Select @ (M3)"> <CONDITION
OPERATORCONDITION = "Equal"> <CONSTANT CAPTION="1"/></CONDITION></FILTER>
Just as it is in Olap universes best practices written by Didier. (Page 12), as following example:
Filter with a calculated member referenced in the filter expression:
<FILTER EXPRESSION="@Select(Calendar Year\My Calculated Member)"><CONDITION
OPERATORCONDITION="Equal"><CONSTANT CAPTION="1"/></CONDITION></FILTER
But does not work when I put the query, the error is dpscommand. And I have no idea where the error is.
The strange thing is it works, if I filter the query directly. ( Query filter: M3 equal 1).
Do you have any tips? or something I could try that I have the M3 as a filter object?
Tks a lot!

I am working on BO XI R3 - SP2 and the basead query is on SAP BW 7.0.

SQL View does not display unless data is returned by the query. Is that normal?
Also, none of these options shows the literal result of the expression we built, i.e.:
expression: CAST(YEAR(TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_MONTH, -24, CURRENT_DATE)) as CHAR)
result: *2008*
Having the ability to test expressions and see their results would be very helpful in debugging. If anyone knows how to do that please share!
Thanks!
MacOk, Probably shoud have figured this out before, but in response to my own question, the way to view the result of an expression is to add the expression as a column and include it in the Table Presentation.

• OLAP universe - dimension always contain a value

HI
Dimension must contain a constant value instance. If I have one dimension, so it must always contain "ZTEST_RGB_23810". The value is not on the data, so I can't use af filter. Can it be done? We have a OLAP universe.
Regards,
Rikke

Hi,
If you have BO XI3.1 SP2, then you can try the following steps:
1. create one dimension object in the universe
2. In the select clause mention: <EXPRESSION>"ZTEST_RGB_23810"</EXPRESSION>

• Getting Custom LOV in SAP BW OLAP Universe

Hi,
My Requirement is to create a prompt where the end user is prompted to select a Custom group(which we have to manually put in prompt and is not available in SAP BW table) and the data should be filtered by the billing document type for that group which again we have to specify in the prompt.
This is what I have created but it's not working -
<OPTIONAL><FILTER KEY="@Select(Billing Document Typ\Billing Document Typ)">
<CONDITION OPERATORCONDITION="InList">
<CONSTANT TECH_NAME="@Prompt('Enter\Select Sales Data Type: ','A',{'Merchandise Invoice Sales':'YFX':'YLXP':'ZFX':'ZLXP','Dropship Invoice':'YFXD':'ZFXD'},multi,free,Not_Persistent)"/>
</CONDITION></FILTER></OPTIONAL>
I have seen this thing working in BO with oracle as backend but it's not working here in OLAP Universe.
Please let me know if anyone has ever faced this issue.
Thanks,
Pankaj Goswami

Hi Marvin,
When you define a filter only the Where clause is available.
When you define an object both Select and Where clause are available.
For an object the Select clause is mandatory, the Where clause is optional.
So for instance if you want to define a new calculated measure, use the Select clause if you want to filter with this new object you can set the Where clause but that means that this object will be always filtered by the Where clause definition.
The other way is to create a new filter that use the object definition to filter on what you want: in that case you can use the object for any scenario and use filter only when you need it.
Last the syntax you wrote is invalid:
<EXPRESSION>(@Select (Class\Measure),filter)</EXPRESSION>
What do you want to define? What is the purpose of this new object?
Please provide all the information you can and I will try to provide you a correct definition.

• MDX OLAP Universe does not allow for a Top 10 rank on measure.

Hello!
I am trying to Rank a measure by Top 10 in count on a MDX OLAP universe based on Web Intelligence. The rank works, however for all the zeros in the row values it gives the same rank and keeps on appending. I then tried to rank a measure with the MDX syntax in the SELECT statement of the measure itself. The syntax is as below:
<EXPRESSION>Rank([0MATERIAL__0MATL_GROUP].[LEVEL01].CurrentMember,
Order([0MATERIAL__0MATL_GROUP].[LEVEL01].CurrentMember.Level.Members
@Select(Exp Dem (Published)\Exp Dem (Published)),
@Prompt(u2018Top orBottomu2019,u2019Nu2019,{u2018DESCu2019,u2019ASCu2019},mono,constrained) ) )</EXPRESSION>
The XML is parsed because of the tags, however when using this measure in the query panel gives an error message for the prompt. Is there a way to rank a measure by Top 10 in the MDX statement above instead of the prompt for the Top/Bottom. I found the syntax in the OLAP Best practices guide.
Kindly revert for any possible solution. Any inputs are highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Vivek.
P.S.: I am specifically looking to Rank multiple measures by Top 10 count without displaying zeros / repetetive values.

Hi Ingo!
Thank you for responding! I have gone through the OLAP Universe best practices as suggested by the guide. However, the Ranking has an offset of repeating the ranks for same value metrics. So if I need a Top 10 and there are 3 zero values in the column, the ranking extends to Top 13. is there any way to hardcode this as a predefined filter in the Universe on the measure, which states that the rank stays limited to Top 10 irrespective of repeating values?
Kindly suggest if there is a work around for this!
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Vivek.

• SAP BW OLAP Universe performance issue

Hi,
Based on BO recommendation, I created a universe on top of a big BEX query which included all characteristics and key figures from a cube. I then created a webi report with 5 characteristics and 1 key figure from this universe. I also create the same report in BEX query designer(same number of objects). I ran both. The Bex query completed under a minute and the webi report took more than 12 minutes to run. I did a bunch of other test with different number of objects combination and saw similar differential in query performance.
I did a trace using 'sm50' and saw the open SQL submitted to BW from BEx was very different from what got submitted from the webi report. Here is what I saw in pseudo code.
Bex:
select dimension1.blah, dimension2.blah, dimension3.blah, dimension..... sum(measure)
from dimension1, dimension2, dimension3, dimension..... factTable
where dimension1.SID = factTable.d1SID
and dimension2.SID = factTable.d2SID
and ......
and (query filters)
OLAP Universe
select dimension1,blah, dimension1.SID
from dimension1, factTable
where dimension1.SID = factTable.d1SID
select dimension2,blah, dimension2.SID
from dimension2, factTable
where dimension2.SID = factTable.d2SID
select dimension3,blah, dimension3.SID
from dimension3, factTable
where dimension3.SID = factTable.d3SID
It seems the OLAP universe was querying the BW cube one dimension at a time and then somehow piece the result sets together to form the final result set. Dimension tables join to the fact table without any filter definitely causes performance issue. Beside, I have no idea why the query requests are submitted to the BW system like that.
I looked in varies forums and found no similar issues posted by others. Has anyone had any performance problem with there OLAP universe? Is this a matter of configurations?
My envrionment:
SAP BW 3.5
BOXI 3.0
ORACLE DB (version ??)

Hi,
You cannot compare a BEx query and a universe query by just comparing the trace.
BEx query makes ABAP calls and universe query makes MDX calls;
Moreover there is only one MDX call sent to SAP, what you have noticed is that there is one MDX call to retrieve member for a given characteristic whereas a prompt has been set on.
Last, Web Intelligence consume only flattened data (row sets) wheras BEx consume data sets.
That means that there is a flattening operation between SAP OLAP engine and the data sent to the Web Intelligence document.
A fix have been developed for a customer to improve performance on Web Intelligence queries, this fix will be available for all customers in SP2 planned in June 09.
Here is a a brief summary of what the fix provide:
- Provide data directly from SAP server to Web Intelligence document. Avoid unnecessary conversion steps: row set --> data set --> row set
- Eliminate redundant sort operations
- Other optimization operations

I have a OLAP universe. On top of it, there are two reports

Question: I have a column called Auction Id on parent report.
Now, when I click on any of the Auction Id values, child report
should only bring data for that Auction Id alone and not other Auction Ids.
In the child report, I have Auction Id as query filter.
Now while in Webi's Interactive Mode, I chose the option
Select Column--> Create Hyperlink --> Link to a document -->

This option works fine.
However, when I change the Document Prompt to:

• Setting a Prompt value for KeyDate in WebI on SAP OLAP universe

I have a webi report which has as its dataprovider a query against an SAP olap universe against a BEx query which has the KeyDate parameter exposed.
Iu2019d like to get at this prompt from the SDK.
In infoview if I run the report it pulls up the keydate prompt (a special dialogue which seems to be implemented as part of the connection definition) - this prior to pulling up the full prompts dialogue and showing all universe based @prompt filters. In WebI I can see the prompt value entered using =UserResponse("dp.kd.value") . So it does seem to see the keydate as a prompt of some sorts.
I've got a little jsp that allows me to set prompts very nicely (and packeaged as a jar in the CMC that schedules ok as well) but when I put it against a report with a key date u201Cpromptu201D it just wonu2019t see it. When I call a getCount() as below it returns 0.
oDocumentInstance.getDataProviders().generateQueries();
Prompts oPrompts = oDocumentInstance.getPrompts();
out.print(oPrompts.getCount());
This is all in an attempt to get around the scheduler limitations of key date which would give me two queries, two universes and two reportsu2026 one report for scheduling (using a customer exit to set key date) and a second for user refresh (with a prompted key date) which would all be rather messey to say the least!
So any cunning ideas on how I can get hold of this key date thingymebob in the SDK?
(ps. "Fixed in V4" would be nice to hear as an aside to thisu2026 In playing with the ramp up Iu2019ve got the same issues however so Iu2019m not to hopefull )
Thanks!
Jeremy.

Hi,
First I think you have to create a support ticket because normally the object in the universe must be generated with data data type nad it is not the case.
We are awere of some limitations with data types.
Secondly, if you want to have users entering date you have to specify date in the prompt data type like this:
<OPTIONAL><FILTER KEY="[PERIOD SD].[DB Full Date].[DB Full Date]"><CONDITION OPERATORCONDITION="Equal"><CONSTANT CAPTION="@Prompt('Enter Date ','D',,mono,free)"></CONSTANT></CONDITION></FILTER></OPTIONAL>

• Calendar Prompt in OLAP Universe does on resolved.

Hi,
I am using BO XI 3.1 with latest fix pack.
I have created a OLAP universe based on SSAS 2005 Multicube for reporting using WebI.
I have a date field in my database but when i but when i created a Universe based on that cube the date field became of type STRING. One of my requirement is that i want a calendar popup in my WebI report when i create a filter on top of that date field.
So i manually changed the type to Date format in Universe Designer in order to see the calendar popup in webi report.
My concern is when i select a date value from the calendar it does not work and i cannot see the data for that date if though the data exist for that. But when i manually enter the date value for that filter changing back the data type as CHaracter in the Universe it works and i can the see the data . The date format i am using is M/D/YYYY which is the same as calendar prompt.
Why we notice this such behavior for the date field in the WebI and every time i want a calendar prompt i have to change the date type to Date and if i have to manually enter i have to change to Character.
Kindly suggest .
Regards,
Vibhav.

• OLAP Universes - Based on BEx Query - Month and Previous Month Functions

Hi,
I created a Universe based on SAP BEx queries and I like to create a filter so that I use in Web Intelligence report to run for "Previous Month" data always. There are "Date" filelds in BEx Query(No Month info only date data). I have no knowledge of SAP BEx Queries and new to OLAP universes. Could you help.
How to create filter that show Previous Month.
Nanda Kishore
Edited by: Nanda Kishore B on Dec 26, 2010 6:15 AM

The easiest way (but NOT the most efficient one) is to create a local variable (Dimension) in your report with the following code:
=if (Month(CurrentDate())=1 AND Month([[MyDate]])=12 AND Year([[MyDate]])=(Year(CurrentDate())-1)) OR (Month(CurrentDate())>1 AND Month([[MyDate]])=(Month(CurrentDate())-1)) then 1 else 0
where MyDate is the field from your query containing the data information
Activate the report filter area in your report design panel by pressing the Report filter icon and drag and drop your variable there and apply it to the entire report. Filter value 1 and you will get the data for the previous month.
Keep in mind that this approach is not optimal especially if you do have many rows of data delivered to your WebI report because filtering takes place only AFTER the data is retrieved. The Best practice here is to work with BEx variables.
How many rows of data does your WebI report normally fetches?
