OLAP variable for data selection

hi all ,
can any own explain how the OLAP variable is used for data selection in the info package. how the value is changing in the Variable.
thanks in advance
rajan

Hi Rajan,
You will not be entering any date value. As Dirk mentions, the value will be filled into the variable by way of an exit, i.e. automatic processing according to some code.
Like your date variable can get you the first of the previous month from the exit processing.
Hope this helps...

  • Creation of OLAP Variable for Master data

    Dear BW Experts,
How to Create OLAP Variable for Master data  in SAP BW? What is the use of OLAP Variable?

The entry column Type (Variable) on the Select Data tabpage indicates a variable time frame in which the data should be requested. The variables are not replaced by concrete values until a request is made. There are eight options:
    Variable            Data request        Description
    0
                          Yesterday
                                            (12am – 12am)

The variables 0-4 only refer to date fields of the data type DATS.
    <b>User time selection</b>
Type 5 gives you a free selection of all fields.
If you select this variable for a field, confirm the selection, and then choose Detail for Type, an additional dialog box appears. In this dialog box you can freely limit the values of the fields and determine the next period value and the number of periods until a repetition.
Variables are placeholders for values and are not replaced by concrete values until a data request is made. You can also use a Variable for selections when requesting data for an InfoObject, if you choose type 7, confirm the selection, and then choose Detail for Type.

  • Step by step OLAP variable for Infopackage

    Hi Experts
I have been thru all the threads but am still not clear how to accomplish this.  I am not an ABAPer so am trying to do this in Bex.
I am in BI 7.0.  I want to create an OLAP variable for 0CO_OM_CCA_9 infopackage to select all cost centers for one 0comp_code.
I've tried creating a query as well as variable but I can't seem to get it to work.
I think the problem is all of the various possibilities of Settings in the variable creation i.e. Processed by, repalcement path, etc
Thanks very much for your help !

Thank you very much Sven !  This is exactly what I needed.
I have a couple of additional questions.
Do I use the variable in this query somewhere or just create it on the Cube?
For Replacement Rule do I choose query and use the query I've just created or choose variable ?
I have done this with query in replacement Rule and I can't see my variable in the list for selections in my Infopackage.
    Thanks for your help

  • The sme variable in data selection of inpopackage and value in transfer rul

    Hello
I would like to use the same variable in data selection of infopackage (1) and as a value in transfer rules (2).
    Example :
If I pass 1 I want to see value1 in data selection of infopackage (1) and as a value in transfer rules (2).
If I pass 2 I want to see value2 in data selection of infopackage (1) and as a value in transfer rules (2).
    How is possible?

    Hi Aleks,
In the transfer routine your code would be something similar to this:
    zvar is a variable
select LOW from RSLDPSEL into zvar where LOGDPID = '<Technical name of Infopackage>' and IOBJNM = '<The Info-object whose value you want to use>'.
    *Now assign the value
    RESULT = zvar.
    Hope this helps.
    Bye

  • Abap Routine for Date selection in Infopackage

    Hi
I have to write an abap routine for date selections in the infopackage,
There are two date begda and enda.
Do i code for BEGDA and fill in the begin date using routine and use another routine to fill the ENDA.
    JPJP

    Hi JP,
If you have two info objects BEGDA and ENDA in the Info package for selection
then you will have to write seperate routine for each of them.
If you want to give single value for each date field then update only the field l_t_range- low otherwise if you want to give range then you can update the internal table fields l_t_range-low and l_t_range-high .

  • Problem in OLAP Variable for InfoPackage

    Hi All ,
My requiremnt is to get all the Blank values for VERSION field from the R/3 to BW .
So I created a OLAP variable and given that variable in the InfoPackage.
    code i written is
      IF p_vnam = 'ZS_BLKVR'.
        CLEAR: l_s_range.
        l_s_range-sign  = 'I'.
        l_s_range-opt  = 'EQ'.
        l_s_range-low   = '' .
        l_s_range-high  = '' .
        APPEND l_s_range TO p_t_range.
        CLEAR: l_s_range.
      ENDIF.
Now when iam loading data in BW , it is giving zero records , but there are records in r/3 with blank values for VERSION field.
in the selection critria it is displaying as '#' for Version in the monitor.
So is there any other way to get the Blank values VERSION records from R/3
    Thank You.....

    Hi Ravi,
You can write an ABAP routine to populate the VERSION field. Choose type '6' from the drop-dwon and try the following code,
loop at l_t_range into l_s_range where fieldname = 'VERSION'.
      l_s_range-low = ' '.
      modify l_t_range from l_s_range.
    endloop.
If it doesn't work then try to use the other way round. Find out what are the non-zero values possibel for version and exclude all the values from the selection.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,

  • Selection variable for dynamic selection in QE51n

    Hi All,
I have a scenario were we have a repetitive Manufacturing and we create one insp. lot of origin 13 and keep creating insp. points for days, so my user wants the insp. points to be displayed only for the past 3 days based of the Date Insp. point identifier which is one of dynamic selection criteria under insp. points, I see with other transaction I can do selection variable on dates for dynamic selection fields but I cannot do that in QE51n, I can do the same in QE51 but not in QE51n, can some tell me if there is a OSS or other way to get this working.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,

    Hi Srikant,
I think you can meet the requirement in QE51N also.
In the screen for QE51N :Result Recording Work list", Follow this Path,,,,,,,,,
    Edit--->Dynamic Selection.
The system will pop-up new small window for "Dynamic selection for insp. lot and operation" here I there is one folder is available named "Inspection point " which is having the selection criteria "Inspection point",  double click on it and enter the desired values.

  • Replacement path variable for date not working

We have a formula variable using replacement path (BEx 7.0) for a date field and after that we have calculated key figures to perform date difference calculations.
This was working perfectly well until recently when the calculated key figures displayed an "X" instead of the value.
The value seems to appear only when the date fields are drilled down in the report.SO this works like a formula instead.
Is this just an unnatural case where something just stopped working ?
We have checked the calculated key figures and the formula variables , they havent been changed in the recent past.
Is there any other solution you could offer to get date differences without having the date fields in the rows ?

How to use Replacement Path Variables to perform Date Calculations
    A Step-by-Step guide
Have you ever wanted to perform calculations using dates defined as characteristics but have never worked out how it can be done? Replacement Path Variables are the key.
Using Replacement Path in your Text and Formula variables, replace values held in a characteristic. The Characteristic value variables are replaced by the results of a query at run-time.
The steps detailed below show a technique to enable a BEx query user to determine the number of days between two dates.
    Scenario:
The group HR administrator wants a detailed line item report that lists all employee absences in a given period. The report is to show the employee number, the absence start date, together with the end date of the absence and show the number of calendar days the employee was absent.
The good thing about using this technique is that no redesign work is needed from your technical BW team, no ABAP is involved and best of all, it quick and easy.
    Solution:
For this example I created an ODS object called Absence that holds basic employee information along with individual absence record data.
    Follow the steps below:
    1.     Open the BEx Query Designer and create a new report on your chosen InfoProvider.
    2.     Drag the Employee, Valid from and Valid to characteristics into the Rows section of the screen.
If needed, apply data selection restrictions to the characteristics as shown in Figure 1.
    3.     Right click on the Key Figures structure and select New Formula (Figure 1).
    Figure 1
    4.
    5.     In the new formula window right click on Formula Variable and choose New Variable ( Figure 2 ).
    Figure 2
    6.
    7.     The Variables Wizard will launch and will require you to specify the variable details.
( Click the NEXT button if the Introduction screen appears )
    8.     Enter the variable details on the General Information as shown in Figure 3 .
Enter the Variable Name , Description and select Replacement Path in the Processing by field.
    Click the Next Button.
    Figure 3
    9.
    10.     In the Characteristic screen (Figure 4) select the date characteristic that represents the first date to use in the calculation (From Date).
    Click the Next Button.
    Figure 4
    11.
    12.     In the Replacement Path screen (Figure 5) select Key in the Replace Variable with field. Leave all the other options as they are (The offset values will be set automatically).
    Click the Next Button.
    Figure 5
    13.
    14.     In the Currencies and Units screen (Figure 6) select Date as the Dimension ID.
    Click the Next button.
    Figure 6
    15.
    16.     The Save Variable screen (Figure 7) displays a summary of the new variable.
Click on the Finish button to save the variable.
    Figure 7
    17.
    18.     Repeat steps 4 to 11 to create a second variable for the second date to be used in the calculation.
In the example shown, the characteristic 0DATETO is used to create the variable ABSEND (Absence End Date).
    Define the Calculation
We can now use our two new replacement variables to define our new calculated key figure that generates the number of absence days for each record.
    1.     You will now be back at the New Formula screen (Figure 8). Drag and drop the two new variables into the formula section of the screen and insert the subtract sign (u201C-u201C) between the two.
    2.     Give the new formula a description and click the formula syntax check button  to ensure the formula is valid.
    Figure 8
    3.
    4.     The new calculated key figure will now show in the columns section of the BEx query designer (Figure 9).
    Figure 9
    5.
    6.     Save the query and execute it.
In the example shown the Number of Calendar Days Absent is calculated correctly. See the table of results below.
Employee     Valid From     Valid To     Number of Calendar
    Days Absent
    50000001     17/04/2004      21/04/2004      4
    50000002     16/07/2004      29/09/2004      13
    50000003     07/01/2004      09/02/2004      33
    50000004     04/08/2004      05/08/2004      1
    Cheers:)
