Old College Digital editions recovery

I have backup copies of my college digital editions that I would like to access. The problem I have run into is that they were backed up from an old Windows XP machine that lost the hard drive to a crash and I cannot remember how I authorized access to these books. I created a Adobe ID and tried authorizing my computer but I still cannot open the books. Most of them give me an error with the file that is non-descript but 3 of then give me a message that the Vendor ID is not associated with my Adobe ID which makes sense because I did not have an ID when I downloaded these books in 2006.
Is there a way to recover these books? I would really like to review the ones I had for Information Technology and Management.

You won't be able to read them with any Adobe ID except the ID they were origianlly purchased/downloaded under.
Each Abode ID/account has [1] an internal fixed format string, and [2] an external one in email address format that can be changed.
You can find the internal ID from the instructions below.
If Adobe are helpful they should be able to restore your access to the account given the internal ID ~ I am not sure they will be.
If not, I am afraid I can't think of any other way to get the books back.
~~~
~~~~~
OK.  To find the internal AdobeID.
open a sample DRM .epub file as a .zip file.
With some zip programs, you can just open the .epub as an archive (ev, with 7zip),
with others you will have to rename the .epub file to a .zip file first, then open it.
find the file 'rights.xml' within the zip.  Probably  'META-INF\rights.xml'
open the rights.xml file
inside you will find a section '<user>' that looks something like
<user>urn:uuid:ff2ddc22-eca0-46c6-a84d-xxxxxxxxxxxx</user>
That string is the internal version for your AdobeID.
That stays fixed for the AdobeID, even if you change the associated email (or password),
that internal ID is what is really associated with the book.
(n.b. there is no point in trying to change the urn to a current one you might find and recreating the .epub file; the DRM is cleverer than that).
You can now contact Adobe at Adobe Live Chat: http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html
It may be that if you can give them that internal ID they will be able to get you access to your account again.
If they say they can't, it might be worth trying two or three times at intervals;
it seems from what others have said that some of the representatives are very clued up, but others are not.
(I've never used the Live Chat).
If you do go through all that, let us know how you got on.

I have an older version of Adobe Digital Editions (around 3 years old) and was very happy with it.
Then I had problems with my Kobo Reader and asked a friend who works in IT to assist. She could not fix the Kobo but she messed up my Addobe. She downloaded version three and I have an account and a password - was not able to transfer my books from my reader to version three (and I don't like the lay-out - I would prefer to stay with the old version as I also loose all my download date info..)
But all the books I have bought over the last three years are in the old Adobe Digital and I cannot access them any more. When I use it I get the message "that the document is licensed to a different account. I can't even open the books on my computer.
When I go to my Kobo library, I cannot also not open my books and get the message "this doc is protected by adobe digital rights management and is not currently authorized for use with your adobe. please sign in with your authorized adobe id and try again"
I believe the problem is that I do not seem to have a digital id for my old adobe or that the Kobo is not in sync with it anymore.
can you please help me - going on vacation in three days and cannot go without books.

Please authorize ADE 3 with same credentials that you used with older version of ADE

  • How solve problem not being able to delete old autorisation Adobe Digital Editions at my laptop?

Hello, I have bought a digital book but cannot open it with Adobe Digital Editions at my laptop. I did change my emailadress at my Adobe account to the same email adress as bol.com, where I bought the book. Bol.com told me to do so to be able to read the book at Adobe. The problem is that I cannot delete my old autorisation with my old emailadress in the Adobe Digital Editions programm. And therefore, I still cannot read the digital book I bought. Please can you give my support.

What version of Digital Editions are you using?  When you say that you cannot delete your old authorization, what do you mean, exactly?  Are you getting an error?

  • How can i reset authorizations for Adobe Digital Editions in old devices?

I need to reset all authorizations (except in my Mac) in old devices of Adobe Digital Editions? Some malfunction, i lost others. I need to clean permissions to get new devices.
    Thanks.
Necesito retirar las autorizaciones en viejos dispositivos de Adobe Digital Editions, pues algunos no funcionan ya y otros los perdí, para poder usarlas en nuevos dispositivos.
    Gracias.

You cannot, nor do you need to.
You can have up to 5 computers authorized.  When you reach 5, you can deauthorize all.

  • I have an old Ebook that i want to de authorize in Digital editions.

I have an old Ebook that i want to de authorize in Digital editions.

    You can't deauthorize a book.
Once a book has been opened for reading it is forever locked to the Adobe ID in use at the time of the first opening.

  • How can I migrate Adobe digital edition and its library from an old computer to a new one?

How can I migrate Adobe digital edition and its library from an old computer to a new one?

    Pertains to a Windows machine..
Definitely get other opinions on this. I last did this myself in 2010.
The most important thing, is to make sure you have an account (which I think you must have, or you probably couldn't have posted here).
As I recall, I downloaded ADE to my new computer, launched the software, authorized the new computer by supplying my login, and then just moved the 'My Digital Editions' folder to the new machine.
Be sure to de-authorize your old machine after you have done all of this, or over time you could end up exceeding your 'simultaneous devices'-limit for accessing your materials. I suspect that *from within the app itself, while it is still installed on your old machine* may be your only opportunity to do this. It is certainly the best/easiest.
Hey Internet! Have you done this more recently than I? If so, please chime in to make corrections or add detail.

  • How Do I migrate Adobe digital Editions from an old PC to a new PC

I have Adobe Digital Editions installed on an old PC with a lot of eBooks from various book stores and public domain sites.
Now I want to migrate this Content to a new PC without downloading again every book from the sources.

If you already enable the iCloud mail you can't change it.
If you don't, you can choose a username for your @icloud.com account.

  • Computer authorized to old (defunct email address), updated Adobe ID.  Digital Editions (reinstalled twice)  won't decrypt and add downloaded PDF books

iMac Intel running OS 10.6.8   I downloaded purchased books from Google Play/Books in EPUB and PDF.  They are encrypted (.pdf.acsm).  Adobe Digital Editions reader will not add them to my library because, I suspect, my computer is authorized with an Adobe ID that uses a now defunct email address.  I have updated my ID on the Adobe web site, redownloaded and reinstalled Adobe Digital Editions but my computer remains authorized to the old Adobe ID.  How do I decrypt these purchased books and read them in Adobe Digital Editions on my computer?

Ok so, I finally managed to remove the failed activation and then I reactivated after which I could read the ebook.
I used this method here: I can't de authorize my computer. It just keeps saying to try again later.
to deactivate, and then repeated the activation process.
Adobe, surely many many people have this problem with a new install, and to have to resort to editing the registry in order to fix it is just madness.
Why does the activation fail the first time, and why then does deactivation also fail? PLEASE FIX YOUR PRODUCTS.

  • Transferring bookmarks from an older version of Digital Edition

I have created a number of bookmarks using an older version of Digital Edition. Now the new version doesn't seem to recognize the old bookmark files (xxx.annot). The bookmark files created by the new version seem to have a name like xxx.epub.annot.
How can I activate the old files, or are they lost forever ?

I'd be rather surprised if it was right. The product upgrade page says only version X5, 6 and 7 can be upgraded. Click here to see it.
    Read the RoboColum(n).

  • Can no longer see my purchased books in Adobe Digital Edition software

Because my purchased books are no longer listed on my Adobe Digital Edition software, they can no longer be downloaded into my E-Reader (due to Rights protection).  I do not understand why they disappeared from the Purchased list.  I would like Adobe to Re-install into my purchased list all my purchased books.  Would like some help with that.

Very nice device the PRS-350, my wife and I both have them.
Not exactly sure how much you have updated, so some of these comments may not be to the point ....
Copying to the Sony should have worked as long as it is still registered with the ID used when you bought the books.
Maybe the Sony lost its registration when you did Sony updates, and you need to reregister it?
Nothing will work with a different ID; you can change the email address assocated with the old ID,
but can't read books with a device registered with a different ID or transer them to a new ID.
Probably when you updated your software ADE lost its repository.
Adobe does not remember your books in any 'cloud' associated with your ID,
the ID is just used to unlock the files you still have that are associated with the ID.
Try opening the books on the USB on ADE (ctrl-O, menu/File/Add to Library).
They should then appear again in the ADE library and you should be able to copy to the Sony (assuming registrations all correct).
Or, if you want the books always available on the computer even without the USB,
copy from USB to computer, then use ADE to open the copies on the computer.
If ADE won't read the books either it is probably not correctly registered (with the original ID).
One possibility is that ADE got confused about registration when you reinstalled (it often does).
    See ***1 note at end.
Also, there is a bug in ADE2.0/2.0.1 that means they Sony devices won't work with library books on that ADE release.
If you want to use library books, use the older more reliable version of ADE.
    See ***2.
    Good luck.

Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0

There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

  • Unable to install ADOBE Digital Edition 2.0.1 on Windows 7

    Hi
My current installation of Windows 7 contains Framework NET 4.0 Full.
    It is up-tp-date with this.
I'm unable to install ADOBE Digital Edition 2.0.1 on this system, because
of the prerequisite required to install this packege.
ADOBE Digital Edition 2.0.1. requires NET 3.5 on Windows 7 (and this is old/outdated today).
When will ADOBE Digital Edition 2.0.1 install on Windows 7 with NET 4?
Any other ideas to get this up and running?
    Thanx

You can install the different versions of .NET at the same time, and that is what you need to do for quite a few programs.
Microsoft don't make them upward compatible.
You could install the older v1.7.2 instead, much more relaible and I don't think (not sure) it as .NET requirement.

Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

  • I have a Kobo N416  E-Reader. It is no longer supported by Kobo and is outdated. I was told that I can use Adobe Digital Editions Desktop App to download book to this Kobo N416 E-Reader . How do I do this ? Thanks

Question;  How do I download Ebooks to my Kobo N416 e-reader using Adobe Digital Editions App ? I have already tried to get help from Kobo Techs but they say the Kobo N416 E-Reader is no longer supported by Kobo and is outdated. Kobo told me to use Adobe Digital Editions to download the books I bought on Kobo to my Kobo N416 E-Reader. I have already contacted Adobe Digital Editions for help but they could not help me and told me to go to Adobe Forums.

I didnt't say that our business is using Linux Desktops. I wrote, our main clientele is. And what our customers do like to use is something we cannot control...
    >What difference does it make to you if Adobe releases a new version of Reader that is not supported on Linux?
a new Adobe Reader version that's supported on Linux would be nice. a dialogue between Adobe and Linux developers would be nice...
    >As long as the old versions can open the files correctly, that's all that matters, no?
No, not if our staff is trained to use the newest Adobe Acrobat (trainings are usually for the newest versions) and uses that to produce forms. Now the files open correctly. But what will be in some months or years? Do people working on Linux do have to print the forms then again to fill in?
So do you recommend that we stop the process of producing electronic forms and stay with paper-fill-in forms? Is that the goal of Adobe? (maybe not so clever for your "financial viability"?!?!? ... ein schuss ins eigene bein?!?!)
    >Adobe is a public company and therefore it's not going to maintain a version of its software at great cost if it's not financially viable. It's as simple as that...
So it is to be interpreted that Adobe is interested in killing Linux cause if users cannot work with let's say forms, they will have to switch to something that can do that for them...
We definitely don't want to force Windows or Mac on our clientele. So as far as I get it, we will go back to paper forms and terminate our licence agreements with Adobe and deinstall it...

  • How do I open a acsm file with the newest version of Adobe Digital Editions

I purchased an ebook that was delivered in the the Adobe .acsm format.  When I downloaded it, I specified that the Adobe Digital Editions as the app to open the file.  ADE launched, loaded my old books but the new book was not loaded. I also tried to load the book from the ADE, but the book shows up as a grayed out item that I cannot select.  I am running the book reader on a Mac running OS X 10.5.8 and have downloaded the lastest version of the ADE.  Has anyone else had a similar problem? Thanks, Yvonne

I'm having the same problem. I have the latest Adobe Reader version, have Mac OS X 10.6.4, and I cannot open any .acsm file-old or new. I've also tried to load the book from the ADE, but the book shows up as a grayed out item that I cannot select. I've tried everything, but to no avail. I don't have any solutions, but wanted to let you know you're not alone in this problem.
